According to the invention, the two window regions (10) are each designed as an assembly consisting of a transparent window (11), an externally conical plastic ring (12) and a metallic frame element (13), and are each arranged flush with the front of the medium in the housing sections (2a, 2b), wherein the assemblies are each arranged in openings in the housing sections (2a, 2b), which have an internally conical contour complementary to the externally conical plastic ring (12) towards the medium, and wherein the plastic ring (12) and the metallic frame element (13) are each arranged one behind the other in such a way that when the assemblies are inserted into the respective openings in the housing sections (2a, 2b) an axial force arising in the direction of the medium is redirected in a radial direction due to the cone contour, so that the assemblies experience maximum compression towards the medium and are thus arranged in the respective housing sections (2a, 2b) in a pressure-tight and gap-free manner.
Description
The invention relates to a process sensor according to the preamble of
Process sensors with an optical measuring principle, in particular turbidity sensors and process refractometers, are designed to analyze a medium, in particular a liquid, in terms of its optical properties. The focus of turbidity sensors is determining the proportion of suspended matter. A radiation transmitter sends light, in particular infrared light, through the medium to a radiation receiver. Suspended matter in the medium dampens the light due to scattered light formation and absorption, so that the radiation intensity received by the radiation receiver is a measure of the turbidity of the medium.
Unlike household appliances, in process and automation technology, especially in the food industry, compliance with special hygiene guidelines can be important. The main focus here is on ensuring a reliable, automated cleaning process (CIP - Cleaning in Place). Areas on the sensor that cannot be cleaned or are difficult to clean, which can arise from dead spaces and gaps, for example, must be avoided at all costs or are not permitted.
The object of the invention is to propose a process sensor with an optical measuring principle which, with simple design measures, is suitable for use in hygiene applications.
The object is achieved according to the invention by a process sensor having the features of
According to the invention, the two window areas behind the radiation transmitter and in front of the radiation receiver are each designed as an assembly consisting of a transparent window, an externally conical plastic ring and a metallic frame element, and are each arranged flush with the front of the medium in the housing sections.
The radiation transmitter is advantageously designed as a light-emitting diode and the radiation receiver as a photodiode. Instead of the photodiode, a phototransistor is also conceivable. The metallic frame element is preferably made of stainless steel or an iron-nickel-cobalt alloy. However, all metallic, transition-metallic and semi-metallic materials are conceivable. Sapphire is the most suitable material for the window because it is much harder than glass, does not splinter, but otherwise has the same optical properties as glass. But optically transparent ceramic is also a suitable material for the window.
The assemblies are each arranged in openings in the housing sections, which have an inner conical contour towards the medium that complements the outer conical plastic ring. The plastic ring and the metal frame element are arranged one behind the other in such a way that when the assemblies are inserted into the respective openings in the housing sections, an axial force that arises in the direction of the medium is diverted in a radial direction due to the conical contour, so that the assemblies experience maximum compression towards the medium and are thus arranged in the respective housing sections in a pressure-tight and gap-free manner.
The advantage of the invention is that such a process sensor, which is preferably designed as a turbidity sensor or as a process refractometer, satisfies the guidelines of the European Hygienic Engineering & Design Group (EHEDG) with comparatively simple measures, i.e. is suitable for hygienic applications, and can also be used without problems at higher medium temperatures up to about 125°C.
The invention is explained in more detail below using embodiments with reference to the drawings.
