Description
The present invention relates to a method for producing micro-optics and such micro-optics.
Known micro-optics are produced from highly transparent photoresist using 3D laser writing and in particular two-photon lithography. However, it is not possible to create apertures or other absorbing structures and elements with these highly transparent photoresists. However, such absorbing structures are essential for optics, e.g. to reduce stray light entering from the side or to improve the contrast in images. In known methods for producing micro-optics, such absorbing structures must be added in an additional process step. These absorbing structures can, for example, consist of a highly absorptive plastic as macroscopic components or can be produced, for example, by vapor deposition of metallic layers or by filling an absorptive ink into a cavity.
Since the creation of the optical elements and the absorptive structures are two separate steps, it is necessary to achieve an exact alignment between the optical elements and the absorbent structures. However, this is not always possible and requires, for example, the creation of markers, which are then used for alignment in the subsequent process step. The accuracies achieved here are often over 2 µm accuracy and in any case over 1 µm accuracy, although there is a large variation and this depends on the skill of the respective user. This is particularly disadvantageous if arrays or fields of optical elements and arrays, for example of apertures, are to be combined with one another, so that even a small inaccuracy leads to the unusability of these micro-optics.
The object of the present invention is to create a method for the simplified production of micro-optics.
The task is solved by the method of claim 1 and the micro-optics according to claim 15.
- - Generate at least one optical element using 3D laser writing and
- - Creating at least one absorptive element using 3D laser writing.
The at least one optical element and the at least one absorptive element are produced from the same photoresist. In particular, the production of the at least one optical element and the at least one absorptive element takes place in a single process step. Thus, in this one process step of 3D laser writing, both the optical element and the absorptive element are created. It is therefore no longer necessary to produce the optical element and the absorptive element in two separate process steps. In particular, it is not necessary to use different photoresists or materials for the optical element and the absorptive element. The photoresist can be, for example, a UV-curing photoresist, which is then locally cured in particular using 2-photon lithography in 3D laser writing to produce the micro-optics. Since the optical element and the absorptive element are produced in one process step, re-alignment with one another is no longer necessary. As a result, the optical element and the absorptive element are aligned with one another with a high degree of accuracy. The alignment accuracy depends on the movement accuracy of the 3D laser writing device and is always less than 1 µm. Due to the high alignment accuracy, high quality can be achieved Micro-optics are created in a particularly simple and efficient way. In the process, the optical element can first be produced and then immediately afterwards the at least one absorptive element can be produced. Alternatively, the at least one absorptive element and then immediately afterwards the at least one optical element can be produced. Alternatively, both the at least one optical element and the at least one absorptive element are produced together in a uniform process step, in particular in layers and thus at the same time.
According to the invention, the at least one absorptive element is a diaphragm or an array of diaphragms. The diaphragm can also be referred to or also includes aperture diaphragms, pinholes or the like, especially if the micro-optics produced is a telecentric lens. In particular, if the at least one absorptive element is designed as a diaphragm or array of diaphragms, the absorptive element is designed to transmit less than 10% of the light and preferably less than 5%.
The micro-optics preferably has more than one optical element and/or more than one absorptive element.
Preferably, before producing the at least one optical element and the at least one absorptive element, a photoresist is applied to a substrate. Furthermore, the substrate can be, for example, a bulk substrate or volume substrate, in particular made of glass, an optical chip or an optical fiber, with the micro-optics being generated on the facet of the optical fiber.
Preferably, no further application of a photoresist takes place between the production of the at least one optical element and the production of the at least one absorptive element, regardless of the selected order of production. Since both the optical element and the absorptive element are produced from the same photoresist, it is sufficient to apply the corresponding photoresist, in particular to a substrate, before the common process step of 3D laser writing. An additional step for applying further photoresist between producing the at least one optical element and producing the at least one absorptive element can therefore be omitted.
Preferably, the absorptive element has an absorption of light in the visible spectral range and/or in the near UV range, so that essentially the light cannot pass through the material of the absorptive element. In this context, essentially means less than 50% of the light passes through the absorptive element, preferably less than 75%, more preferably less than 90% and particularly preferably less than 95%. The transmission can be adjusted by the thickness of the absorbent element.
Preferably, the at least one absorptive element is a scatter protection which at least partially surrounds the at least one optical element. The scatter protection prevents stray light from entering from the side in particular to improve the image quality. For this purpose, the scatter protection can be designed, for example, as a sleeve. Preferably, the scatter protection completely surrounds the optical element, with the entrance and exit facets of the optical element naturally remaining free. In particular, the scatter protection can form the outside of the micro-optics and thereby not only prevent stray light from entering from the side, but also protect the micro-optics from physical influences and increase the stability of the micro-optics. In particular, if the absorptive element is designed as a scatter protection, the absorptive element is designed to transmit less than 50%, preferably less than 25%, more preferably less than 10% and particularly preferably less than 5% of the light.
The absorptive element preferably has a thickness of more than 50 μm, in particular 200 μm or more and particularly preferably 500 μm or more. Due to the selected thickness of the at least one absorptive element, the absorption is sufficiently high to reduce the influence of scattered light or to fulfill the function of a diaphragm.
Preferably, the absorptive element has a change in absorption, and in particular there may be a radial change in absorption. The absorption can increase or decrease in the radial direction of the respective absorptive element. This makes it possible, for example, to adapt the beam profile of fibers so that the outer region of the Gaussian beam is attenuated by a radially increasing absorption and therefore does not influence the intensity profile that is coupled into the fiber.
The at least one optical element is preferably a transmission optics. In particular, the optical element is essentially transparent to light in the near infrared range, in the visible spectral range and/or in the near UV range. Essentially meaning In this context, more than 50% of the light passes through the optical element, preferably more than 75% of the optical light, more preferably more than 90% of the light. This means that only small absorptive losses occur when passing through the optical element. The optical element can be transparent for the entire range from the near infrared range through the visible spectral range to the near UV range. Alternatively, the optical element only has transparency in one wavelength range. This region can in particular be smaller than 300 nm, preferably smaller than 200 nm, preferably smaller than 100 nm and particularly preferably smaller than 50 nm wide. The optical element therefore also serves as a color filter, so that only selected wavelengths can pass through the optical element. The transmission can be adjusted by the layer thickness.
Preferably, the one optical element is a lens, an array of lenses, a prism, an array of prisms, a transmission grating, an array of transmission gratings or a combination thereof.
The optical element preferably has a thickness of less than 50 μm and in particular less than 25 μm. Here, the thickness refers to the direction of the light passing through and therefore coincides in particular with the dimension of the optical element along the optical axis. Due to the small thickness of the optical element, the absorption of the photoresist used is low and has little or no influence on the imaging by the optical element. In particular, for example, a transmission of 75% can be achieved with a thickness of 25 µm and 90% with a thickness of 10 µm.
Preferably, the photoresist has a transmission of more than 50% and in particular more than 80% at the wavelength of 3D laser writing. In particular, the transmission depends on the working distance of the lens of the 3D laser writing device with which the laser light is focused. In particular, if 3D laser writing is designed as a 2-photon lithography process, it is possible to achieve high transmission of the photoresist at the wavelength of 3D laser writing and at the same time to enable local curing of the photoresist.
Preferably, the photoresist has a Lambert-Beer coefficient of 2 mm -1 or less and in particular 1 mm -1 or less at the wavelength of 3D laser writing. The Lambert-Beer coefficient is also referred to as the absorption coefficient α, which results from the intensity attenuation according to the equation I(z) = I 0 e -α×z . I is the maintained intensity dependence on the distance z traveled in the material and I 0 is the initial intensity.
The Lambert-Beer coefficient α of the photoresist is preferably between 3 and 20 mm -1 and in particular between 5 and 15 mm -1 . This particularly concerns the Lambert-Beer coefficient for the wavelengths for which the micro-optics is to be used. This can, for example, include the visible spectral range, so that the Lambert-Beer coefficient for the visible spectral range of the photoresist is between 3 and 20 mm -1 and in particular between 5 and 15 mm -1 . If the micro-optics is to be used for other wavelength ranges (for example as a color filter), the preferred Lambert-Beer coefficients apply to these wavelength ranges. Due to the choice of the Lambert-Beer coefficients for the photoresist, it is possible, on the one hand, to achieve sufficient absorption of the absorptive element, in particular if the absorptive element has a thickness of more than 50 μm, in particular 200 μm or more and particularly preferably 500 μm or more. At the same time, sufficient transmission of the optical element is achieved, so that a substantially unhindered transmission of light through the optical element is possible. This applies in particular if the thickness of the optical element is less than 25 µm.
Preferably, the calculation index of the photoresist is between 1.4 and 1.6 and in particular between 1.5 and 1.53. This is in particular a calculation index that corresponds well with the calculation index of highly transparent photoresists, which are already used in 3D laser writing. A combination of these photoresists is therefore possible in a simple manner. For example, a highly transparent photoresist can be used to produce further elements of micro-optics and these can then be combined with the method of the present invention.
During 3D laser writing, two successive layers are preferably rotated by more than 30 degrees to each other and in particular rotated by 90 degrees to each other. In 3D laser writing, structures are usually built up in layers. It has been shown that changing the alignment of successive layers can be advantageous. Typically in 3D laser writing and especially in 2-photon lithography, angles of 30 degrees are used between two consecutive layers. The angle is also referred to in the literature as the “hatching angle”. However, it has been shown in the present invention that The present micro-optics form spiral-shaped structures on the surface of the optical element at an angle of 30 degrees. These can be prevented by specifically choosing an angle between two successive layers of more than 30 degrees and in particular 90 degrees, so that a smooth surface of the at least one optical element is achieved.
Insbesondere beträgt dabei die vorgegebene Zeitdauer 1s bis 5s.Preferably, a predetermined period of time is waited between writing two successive layers. If the waiting times between successive layers are too short, the effective writing performance increases, which can influence the shape, especially the surface, of the written structure. Therefore, after writing each layer and moving the piezo stage in the z direction, the specified waiting time is maintained (so-called “piezo settling time”). In particular, the specified time period is 1s to 5s.
The present invention further relates to micro-optics produced by the method as described above.
The micro-optics is preferably a lens singlet, which therefore represents a combination of a single lens and an aperture. This lens singlet is created in one process step as described above.
The micro-optics produced is preferably a telecentric lens, consisting of an aperture and a lens axially spaced therefrom. This requires a precise transversal alignment, i.e. an alignment in a plane perpendicular to the axial direction of the aperture and the lens. At the same time, however, the axial distance between the aperture and the lens must also be created precisely, with the axial distance usually corresponding to the focal length of the lens. According to the methods from the prior art, the production of such a telecentric lens would require a high level of alignment accuracy between the lens and the aperture, which under certain circumstances cannot be achieved. According to the present invention, an exact alignment of both elements is possible in a simple manner because the aperture and the lenses are produced in one process step, so that high-quality telecentric lenses can be produced as micro-optics.
Thus, in the present invention, it was surprisingly found that the use of an absorptive photoresist can be advantageous for producing micro-optics. Due to the small dimensions of the structures in micro-optics, the absorption, for example for the optical elements, can be neglected in thin structures. However, if thick structures are produced from the same absorptive photoresist, these have a sufficiently high absorption to be used in micro-optics as absorptive elements, such as apertures or the like. This eliminates the need to produce optical elements and absorptive elements in different process steps and in particular from different materials. Surprisingly, it has also been shown that the use of such an absorptive photoresist in a 3D laser writing process and in particular in a 2-photon lithography process is possible and that, in addition to its optical properties in the finished micro-optics, the photoresist simultaneously has a sufficiently high transmission for the 3D Laser writing can have so that thermal influences during 3D laser writing remain low.

It has been shown that by producing the at least one optical element and the at least one absorptive element in one process step, the required alignment between the optical element and the absorptive element can be significantly improved compared to conventional two-step processes in which an absorptive element is formed as a macroscopic one Element is subsequently applied or, for example, vapor-deposited as a metal layer. This makes it possible to align arrays of optical elements and arrays of absorptive elements with one another with high precision.
Surprisingly, it has been shown that it is possible to use the same photoresist for the optical elements as well as for the absorptive elements. For this purpose, the absorption of the photoresist is selected such that sufficient optical transmission of the optical elements can be achieved for suitable thicknesses. The transmission is in particular more than 75% and preferably in particular more than 90%. For this purpose, the optical elements can, for example, have a thickness of less than 25 μm and in particular less than 10 μm. At the same time, a sufficient thickness is selected for the absorptive elements so that the absorption of the photoresist is sufficient to achieve sufficient absorption of the absorptive elements. The absorption of the absorptive elements can be more than 50%, in particular more than 75%, more preferably more than 90% and particularly preferably more than 95%. This achieves sufficient shielding for the relevant wavelengths. Here, the absorptive element is designed as a diaphragm or an aperture is formed by the absorptive element. In addition to this, the absorptive element can be a scatter protection, which at least partially surrounds the optical element and thus prevents the lateral penetration of scattered light into the optical element.
This significantly improves the imaging properties of the optical element.
In particular, the photoresist has a Lambert-Beer coefficient or absorption coefficient between 3 and 20 mm -1 and in particular between 5 and 15 mm -1 . These absorption coefficients are achieved in particular in a wavelength range for which the micro-optics is to be used. If micro-optics is used with white light, for example, the Lambert-Beer coefficient results essentially for the entire wavelength range of visible light. If the micro-optics is only used for a narrow wavelength range (for example as a color filter), it is sufficient that the corresponding absorption is present in this narrower wavelength range. Furthermore, it is preferred that the photoresist has a Lambert-Beer coefficient of 2 mm -1 or less, and in particular 1 mm -1 or less, at the wavelength of 3D laser writing. This means that only a small absorption of the laser light occurs during 3D laser writing, so that a sufficiently high intensity can be achieved at the location of the laser focus, whereby thermal overloading of the photoresist can be prevented.
In particular, when the 3D laser writing is a 2-photon lithography process, the above-mentioned absorption values can be achieved simultaneously. The absorption of the photoresist makes it possible on the one hand to produce transparent or almost transparent optical elements and at the same time to produce absorptive elements from the same photoresist. Furthermore, due to the selected absorption of the photoresist, it is possible to use it for a 2-photon lithography process in order to create the micro-optics. It has surprisingly been shown that all three requirements can be met at the same time with the absorption values mentioned above. Otherwise, excessive absorption would make it possible to produce absorptive elements, but at the same time would no longer make optical elements possible. Writing with high light intensities as part of the 2-photon lithography process would also no longer be possible. However, too much transparency would no longer make it possible to create absorptive elements.

A method is thus created for the simplified production of micro-optics. It has been shown that the use of an absorptive photoresist simplifies the manufacturing process and in particular enables the production of absorptive elements and optical elements in one step without loss of quality. This allows the alignment of the optical elements to the absorptive elements to be significantly improved. The invention has surprisingly shown that the requirements regarding absorption and transmission for the light for which the micro-optics is used and for the laser light from 3D laser writing can be met at the same time.
