Description
The present invention relates to a charging device for charging a battery of a vehicle.
Stand der TechnikState of the art
Electric vehicles (EV) and hybrid vehicles are being strongly promoted as the vehicle of the future precisely because they emit slightly less CO2 per kilometer driven compared to purely internal combustion engine vehicles. The resulting waste heat from the electronics and motor is generally not used for both internal combustion vehicles and EVs and is simply released into the surrounding air. The waste heat from a vehicle is currently only used to heat the interior in winter. The waste heat from the EV consists of both the energy from the power loss of the electronics and batteries during the charging process itself and the energy stored in the cooling water from the journeys that have just taken place. Only a small part of the waste heat generated is required for this. For combustion vehicles, "recycling the waste heat" would only be possible with great effort. For EVs, where the battery has to be charged regularly with its own infrastructure anyway, this would be possible with little additional effort. This would further improve the life cycle assessment of EVs.
Electric vehicles and hybrid vehicles usually have an electrical energy store, for example a traction battery, which provides the electrical energy for the drive.
If this electrical energy store is completely or partially discharged, the electric vehicle must head for a charging station at which the energy store can be recharged. To date, it has been customary for the electric vehicle to be connected to the charging station at such a charging station by means of a cable connection. The nationwide infrastructure for charging stations is currently largely non-existent (apart from isolated pilot projects) and is currently under construction. According to a DLR study, electric and hybrid vehicles in Germany are mainly charged at home, with charging capacities between 3 (1-phase) and 11 kW (3-phase) usually being possible in private households. Due to the existing plugs (standardization applied by the OEM), the conductive systems can transmit charging power that, at over 100 kW, is significantly higher than with inductive charging.
Nachteilig beim Laden bzw. The disadvantage of charging or rapid charging of batteries in electric vehicles is that the battery heats up during the charging process; this occurs due to the high internal cell resistance. The changed battery temperature changes the battery properties and thus the heat development and heat losses or heat demand. A disadvantage of heating is the associated limitation of the maximum possible charging current, since the battery is damaged if the temperatures are too high and therefore only works optimally in limited temperature ranges. In order to be able to charge quickly, the energy loss (heat) must be dissipated. The power loss during charging itself is released into the environment either directly via air cooling or via water cooling and a heat exchanger. As a result, even with an efficiency of 90% - 98%, waste heat in the range of 5KW - 100KW per charging process is not used. For electric buses or electric commercial vehicles with significantly higher battery capacity, the waste heat would be significantly higher. This means that the use of the heat generated can make both economic and ecological sense, especially for charging stations that have a very good degree of utilisation. In the case of these charging stations or charging devices, rapid charging stations are of particular interest, since more energy is generated in a system and the cost-effectiveness of the necessary installations is improved as a result.
With today's accumulators and charging currents, power losses of a few 10 kW are realistic. Accordingly, many batteries are already cooled by a liquid medium for temperature control while driving.
There is therefore a need for a charging device via which the resulting heat loss can advantageously be further used.
Offenbarung der ErfindungDisclosure of Invention
The charging device according to the invention with the characterizing part of claim 1 has the advantage that the heat loss occurring during charging or rapid charging is converted into usable energy. Accordingly, there are advantages in terms of energy efficiency, energy consumption, environmental protection and costs.
According to the invention, a charging device is provided for charging a battery of a vehicle, preferably an electric or hybrid vehicle, the charging device having a charging cable and a first cooling circuit, the vehicle having a second cooling circuit, The battery is cooled via the inter alia, wherein the first cooling circuit of the charging device is connected to the second cooling circuit of the vehicle via a supply line. Advantageously, the lost heat can be dissipated from the vehicle through the connection of the first and second cooling circuit and can be put to good use in that the lost heat can be used, for example, for warming up. Accordingly, the eco-balance of vehicles is improved through sensible use of the waste heat generated during driving and when charging the batteries.
Advantageous developments of the device specified in the independent claim are possible as a result of the measures specified in the dependent claims.
The waste heat from the battery of the vehicle is advantageously dissipated during charging by the charging device via the first cooling circuit. Like the vehicle to be charged, the charging device has a cooling device and can thus dissipate heat and contribute to cooling the battery. By connecting the two cooling circuits of both the charging device and the vehicle, the heat can advantageously be dissipated from the vehicle.
Furthermore, it is advantageous that the charging device is part of a building. Electric vehicles are usually charged at home in the garage or carport. Accordingly, the charging device is part of the building and can therefore be conveniently integrated there. The charging device can, for example, be connected to the building's own electricity network or can also be supplied with cooling water from the building.
The first cooling circuit of the charging device advantageously makes the waste heat from the battery available for heating the building and/or for heating the service water in the building. Since the battery warms up during charging, the waste heat can be fed to the building via the cooling circuit and used there to advantage by heating the building or water pipes via heat exchangers.
Furthermore, it is advantageous that the battery can be heated to the necessary operating temperature by means of the first cooling circuit of the charging device. If the temperature outside the building is low, the battery can first be heated to the required working temperature.
A cooling medium advantageously circulates between the first cooling circuit and the second cooling circuit by means of a pump. The pump conveys the coolant and thus contributes to the circulation of the coolant in the circuits.
Die Pumpe ist vorteilhaft Teil der Ladevorrichtung. The pump is advantageously part of the loading device.
The pump is advantageously part of the vehicle and is preferably the vehicle's coolant pump. In order to save an additional pump within the charging device, the coolant pump of the vehicle is advantageously used to circulate the coolant between the cooling circuits. This saves on additional components and the associated costs.
The supply line, via which the first cooling circuit of the charging device is connected to the second cooling circuit of the vehicle, is advantageously part of the charging cable. This connection of the charging cable and the supply line ultimately results in a single cable, which transports both electricity and coolant. This eliminates the need for additional cables that may be lying around and otherwise require more space.
Advantageously, one or more water connection pieces are provided on the vehicle to which the supply line is connected. The water connection sockets enable the supply lines to be quickly connected to the vehicle. The water connection pieces are advantageously provided on the vehicle, are located on the outside of the vehicle and are easily accessible.
Furthermore, it is advantageous that the charging device comprises a heat exchanger which is arranged either in the vehicle or in the charging device. The heat exchanger is advantageously part of a fixed infrastructure (e.g. when the charging device is designed as a charging station, charging station or wall box) or part of the vehicle (e.g. as a separate heat exchanger specifically for dissipating waste heat from the vehicle or as a cooler inside the vehicle), which Feeds waste heat from the vehicle and / or charging station in a reservoir for hot water, for example, a building or to support heating.
Further features and advantages of the present invention will become apparent to those skilled in the art from the following description of exemplary embodiments, which, however, are not to be construed as limiting the invention, with reference to the accompanying drawings.
