Description
The invention relates to an energy conversion arrangement for converting chemical energy into electrical energy, with a fuel cell arrangement for generating electrical energy from a gaseous energy carrier, in particular hydrogen, a storage device for storing the energy carrier under high pressure, with a pressure difference to the working pressure of the fuel cell arrangement, an energy carrier circuit for the line of the energy carrier from the storage device to the fuel cell arrangement, a cooling circuit for conducting cooling fluid via the fuel cell arrangement for cooling the same, comprising a cooling device, and a thermally driven refrigeration machine which is arranged to use the cooling fluid to supply a driving heat flow within the cooling circuit. The invention also relates to a method for operating an energy conversion arrangement.
In liquid-cooled fuel cell assemblies, as they are, for. B. are used in mobile applications, the greater part of the waste heat generated during operation is dissipated via an external cooling circuit. Temperatures of 60 ° C. to 70 ° C., for example, are reached in the cooling circuit. In the winter months, this heat output can z. B. used to heat a vehicle cabin. If there is no heating requirement, the resulting waste heat is usually given off to the environment with additional energy and cannot be used.

The invention is based on the object of providing an energy conversion arrangement and a corresponding method that are more efficient due to the improved usability of waste heat.
The object is achieved for the energy conversion arrangement with the features of
In this case, it is provided, in a particularly efficiency-increasing manner, that a device for increasing the temperature of the cooling fluid is arranged within the cooling circuit between the fuel cell arrangement (with regard to its cooling fluid outlet side) and the thermally driven refrigerating machine. The temperature increase of the cooling fluid after flowing through the device for increasing the temperature can be between 5 K and 50 K, in particular between 10 K and 30 K, for example. By increasing the temperature, the efficiency of the thermally driven refrigeration machine can be increased significantly and the waste heat from the fuel cell system can be used more efficiently.
The temperature increase is achieved particularly efficiently in that the device for increasing the temperature is fluidly arranged in the energy carrier circuit and (in this case) / or can be operated using the pressure difference, the pressure energy between the Storage device and the fuel cell arrangement is used. By using the pressure gradient to operate the facility, z. B. on a combustion of energy sources, in particular hydrogen, to increase the temperature can be dispensed with. On the other hand, the pressure energy of the energy carrier stored in the storage device, in particular hydrogen, which according to the prior art is usually released to the environment via a throttle, can advantageously be used to increase the efficiency of the thermally driven refrigeration machine.
The device for increasing the temperature comprises at least one first reactor with a reaction material in which, in an absorption mode, a (reversible) thermo-chemical gas-solid reaction within a reaction system comprising energy carriers and the reaction material heat can be generated or generated for release to the cooling fluid, wherein the energy carrier is absorbed in the reaction material, the first reactor in the cooling circuit being fluidically arranged (or coupled) upstream of the thermally driven refrigeration machine. The device for increasing the temperature is thus designed based on the principle of the reversible thermochemical gas-solid reaction. In this case, heat is generated in a reaction system, formed from a gas, in the present case an energy carrier (in particular hydrogen) and a reaction material in the form of a solid (e.g. a metal (in a first form) or metal hydride (in a second form)) released, wherein in an absorption reaction of the gas in the reaction material, a chemical conversion of the reaction material from a first form (e.g. a metal) to the second form (e.g. a metal hydride) takes place. In the reverse desorption reaction of the gas from the reaction material, the chemical conversion of the reaction material back into the first form takes place with the absorption of heat or the release of cold. The principle of the reversible thermochemical gas-solid reaction is described in the publication “Linder M, Kulenovic R, An energyefficient air-conditioning system for hydrogen driven cars, Int. J Hydrogen Energy 2011, 36: 3215-3221 “in connection with an experimental setup for investigations into refrigeration for use in an open system.
An advantageously continuous generation of heat can be achieved if the device for increasing the temperature comprises at least one second reactor with a reaction material (preferably in the same type and amount as in the first reactor) in which alternately to the first reactor in the absorption mode heat for transferring to the cooling fluid can be generated or generated, wherein the second reactor (during the absorption operation) in the cooling circuit is fluidically arranged (or coupled) upstream of the thermally driven refrigeration machine. The respective other reactor is preferably regenerated in a desorption operation, in which case it can advantageously contribute to cooling the cooling fluid.
A particularly efficient energy conversion arrangement results when one of the reactors can be operated or operated in absorption mode in a half cycle, with energy carriers being guided or directed from the storage device for absorption into the respective reactor, and the respective other reactor in the cooling circuit downstream of the thermal driven refrigeration machine is arranged and can be operated or operated in a desorption mode, with the reversed thermochemical gas-solid reaction within the reaction system being able to generate or generate cold for transfer to the cooling fluid (ie heat is removed from it with cooling), with energy carriers from the reaction material is desorbed with heat absorption and passed to the fuel cell arrangement and that after a half cycle time in a switching process the flow connections (in particular by switching appropriately designed valve means) of the energy source and / or the cooler Oil fluids are switchable or switched over and then in the other half cycle the respective other reactors can be operated or operated in absorption mode and in desorption mode. In particular, the direction of flow of the cooling fluid is switched in such a way that the reactor in absorption mode is arranged upstream of the thermally driven refrigeration machine and the reactor in desorption mode is arranged downstream of the thermally driven refrigeration machine. In this way, a device for increasing the temperature which is integrated extremely efficiently into the overall system (i.e. the energy conversion arrangement) is provided which, in addition to heating the cooling fluid, can also contribute to its cooling before it enters the fuel cell arrangement.
In particular, existing valve means for changing the direction of flow of the cooling fluid in the cooling circuit can be switched or switched over with a time delay, in particular valve means upstream of the reactors and, after a switching time, valve means arranged downstream being switchable or switched over. The switching time can e.g. B. correspond to the flow time of the cooling fluid starting from the valve means arranged upstream to the valve means arranged downstream. As a result of the time-shifted switchover, a residual volume of cooling fluid, which is located between valve means arranged upstream and downstream of the reactors, can initially flow out. This prevents a residual volume flow of cold or warm cooling fluid from being undesirable Way flows in the opposite direction. So an undisturbed operation of the components despite the switching process, z. B. the thermally driven refrigeration machine can be guaranteed. During the switchover, the energy carrier flow into or out of the reactors can also be interrupted and z. B. the fuel cell arrangement can be supplied with energy via a bypass section.
In a particularly preferred embodiment, a high operating pressure, higher than the low operating pressure, e.g. B. more than 35 bar, but less than the pressure within the storage device, and in the desorption operation a lower operating pressure than this, z. B. 5 bar or less, but higher than the working pressure of the fuel cell arrangement, adjustable or set in the reactor (s). The adjustability (controllability or controllability) of the pressure level makes it possible to achieve a demand-optimized and precise temperature control in connection with the heat generated or absorbed during the absorption operation or desorption operation. Because in the principle of the thermochemical gas-solid reaction, the temperature level is coupled to the pressure level applied to the reaction material in a material-specific equilibrium characteristic.
The respective operating pressure in the reactor (s) and / or the energy carrier mass flows to or from the reactor (s) are / is preferably depending on boundary conditions, in particular to maintain a required temperature of the cooling fluid for entry into the thermally driven Refrigeration machine and / or a required thermal power, adjustable or set. In this way, the output of the device for increasing the temperature can be adjusted as required and thus in particular adapted to the output of the fuel cell arrangement. Advantageously, there is a similar, namely linear, dependency on the demand for energy carriers both in the case of heat generation within the absorption mode and in the generation of waste heat within the fuel cell arrangement (coupled to its output), so that the type of heat generation and electrical energy generation advantageously complement each other.
For a flexible and / or optimized mode of operation, the energy carrier circuit comprises a bypass section, by means of which the device for increasing the temperature can at least temporarily have at least a partial flow of the energy carrier flowing around it. In particular, in the event that there is no need for cooling and the thermally driven refrigeration machine is not being operated, the device for increasing the temperature can be fluidically decoupled from the energy carrier circuit. The fuel cell arrangement can also be supplied with energy carriers beyond the energy carrier requirement of the device for increasing the temperature.
It is also conducive to a flexible and / or optimized mode of operation if the cooling circuit comprises a bypass section, by means of which the device for increasing the temperature and / or the thermally driven refrigeration machine can at least temporarily have at least a partial flow of the cooling fluid flow around or around it via a bypass section. On the one hand, in the event that there is no need for cooling, the thermally driven refrigeration machine and / or the device for increasing the temperature can be fluidically decoupled from the cooling circuit, so that only the cooling device and the fuel cell arrangement, as essential components of the energy conversion arrangement, are flowed through by cooling fluid. In addition, the mass flow of cooling fluid or its distribution can advantageously be controlled or regulated with regard to a temperature in the cooling circuit.
In particular in this context it is advantageous if the mass flow of the cooling fluid (by means of the control device and / or the bypass section comprising a correspondingly designed valve means) can be controlled or regulated in such a way that a temperature of the cooling fluid downstream of the fuel cell arrangement and upstream of the device for increasing the temperature is at least is essentially constant (e.g. apart from (short-term) technical-related fluctuations), even when the load point of the fuel cell changes. The set temperature is preferably based on the maximum possible operating temperature of the fuel cell so that it is not exceeded. For example, the temperature is set so that this z. B. up to 10 K or up to 5 K below the maximum temperature for safe operation of the fuel cell. In this way, advantageously constant, in particular with regard to a high inlet temperature favorable boundary conditions for the thermally driven refrigerating machine, are provided which increase the efficiency of the thermally driven refrigerating machine.
In a preferred embodiment, the reaction material comprises a solid (in particular in the form of a bulk material and / or compacts) having a metal hydride, in particular a titanium-manganese alloy, and / or the energy carrier is formed by hydrogen. The exact type of reaction material is selected in particular in connection with the required pressure and temperature boundary conditions for the operation of the device for increasing the temperature.
The cooling device is preferably arranged downstream of the thermally driven refrigeration machine and upstream or downstream of the reactor which is in desorption mode.
Advantageous variant embodiments of the method are described in the same way in connection with the arrangement or device variants described above.
