Description
The present invention relates to a nozzle device for a jet pump, comprising a drive nozzle and a first suction nozzle, the first suction nozzle being arranged radially outside the drive nozzle and the nozzle device being designed in such a way that a fluid flow through the drive nozzle causes a fluid flow through the first suction nozzle drives. The invention also relates to a jet pump with a corresponding nozzle device.
Jet pumps are used to generate a secondary flow of fluid from a primary flow of motive fluid. The primary drive fluid is accelerated with the help of a pump, for example, and guided in such a way that it comes into contact with a secondary fluid. A velocity and pressure gradient between the two fluids causes the second fluid to be accelerated by the first fluid flow. Therefore, in jet pumps, the second fluid flow is driven by the first fluid flow.
Jet pumps can be designed as single-stage or multi-stage jet pumps with multiple pump stages and nozzles. A major disadvantage of jet pumps is their low efficiency, which results from the mixing of a high-velocity jet of primary drive fluid with a nearly stagnant secondary fluid.
The object of the present invention is therefore to provide an improved jet pump and an improved jet pump nozzle geometry which, compared to known jet pumps and jet pump nozzle geometries, have better efficiencies.
This object is achieved by a nozzle device according to
According to the invention, a nozzle device for a jet pump is provided, the nozzle device comprising a drive nozzle and a first suction nozzle, the first suction nozzle being arranged radially outside the drive nozzle and the nozzle device being designed such that a fluid flow through the drive nozzle results in a fluid flow through the first suction nozzle drives. In a simple embodiment, a propulsion nozzle outlet may be located close enough to a first suction nozzle outlet so that the low pressure and high velocity fluid stream of the propulsion nozzle can interact with the fluid of the first suction nozzle.
This is because the shear stress defined above is the product of the fluid viscosity and the velocity gradient. The latter can be very large in the jet pumps known from the prior art. High shear stresses lead to the generation of turbulence, which in turn leads to the dissipation of primary energy, which is the reason for the low efficiency of the known jet pumps. The jet pump and nozzle assembly of the present invention provides improved jet pump efficiency because shear stresses are reduced when mixing of the two or more bulk or fluid streams is induced.
In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the nozzle device can be designed such that the first suction nozzle is arranged concentrically around the driving nozzle and/or that the first suction nozzle comprises an axisymmetric volume, such as a toroidal volume. The drive nozzle and/or the first suction nozzle can comprise nozzle wall sections which are in particular rotationally symmetrical about a central axis of one of the nozzles or both nozzles.
In another preferred embodiment of the invention, the nozzle device can be designed in such a way that a first mixing tube is provided downstream of the drive nozzle and the first suction nozzle. The first mixing tube can be connected to an outer wall of the first suction nozzle. In particular, the first mixing tube and the outer wall of the first suction nozzle can be made in one piece. The first mixing tube, the drive nozzle and the first suction nozzle can be arranged coaxially with one another.

In a particularly preferred embodiment of the invention, the nozzle device can be designed in such a way that the first mixing tube comprises a first diffuser stage at the downstream end of the first mixing tube. The first stage diffuser may have a larger cross-sectional area than a portion of the first mixing tube located further upstream of the first stage diffuser. The first diffuser stage of the first mixing tube can be arranged concentrically to other sections of the first mixing tube and/or the drive nozzle and/or the first suction nozzle.
In a further particularly preferred embodiment of the invention, the nozzle device can be designed in such a way that a second suction nozzle is arranged downstream of the first mixing tube, the nozzle device being designed in such a way that a fluid flow through the first mixing tube drives a fluid through the second suction nozzle and/or wherein the second suction nozzle is arranged concentrically around the first mixing tube and/or wherein the second suction nozzle comprises an axisymmetric volume. The structure and function of the second suction nozzle can optionally include features such as those described in relation to the first suction nozzle.
In particular, the second suction nozzle can be located close enough to the outlet of the first mixing tube so that the low pressure and high velocity fluid stream of the first mixing tube can interact with the fluid of the second suction nozzle. The second suction nozzle may be positioned to reduce shear stress at the interface between the jet and the suction mass or the fluid flow through the first mixing tube and the fluid flow through the second suction nozzle.
In a particularly preferred embodiment of the invention, the nozzle device can be designed in such a way that a second mixing tube is provided downstream of the first mixing tube and the second suction nozzle. The second mixing tube can be connected to an outer wall of the second suction nozzle. In particular, the second mixing tube and the outer wall of the second suction nozzle can be made in one piece. The second mixing tube, the first mixing tube, the drive nozzle and/or the first and second suction nozzle can be arranged coaxially with one another.
In a particularly preferred embodiment of the invention, the nozzle device can be designed in such a way that the second mixing tube comprises a second diffuser stage at the downstream end of the second mixing tube. The second stage diffuser may have a larger cross-sectional area than a portion of the second mixing tube located further upstream of the second stage diffuser. The second diffuser stage can be arranged concentrically to other sections of the second mixing tube and/or the drive nozzle and/or the first and/or second suction nozzle.
In a particularly preferred embodiment of the invention, the nozzle device can be designed such that a first fluid flows through the drive nozzle and a second fluid flows through the first and/or the second suction nozzle, the first and second fluids being the same types of fluids or wherein the first and second fluids are different types of fluids. The first fluid that flows through the propulsion nozzle can be considered the propulsion fluid. The first and second fluids may be provided from the same fluid source or from different and separate fluid sources.

The right end or downstream end of the

The geometry of the

During operation of the nozzle device, a first fluid flows through the
The
The nozzles of the present invention can be designed in such a way that the flow velocities and/or the flow directions of adjacent nozzles are as similar as possible. In particular, the nozzles can be designed in such a way that the flow directions and/or flow speeds of the first fluid stream exiting the
The present nozzle device and the corresponding jet pumps offer at least one
The energy is supplied to the respective jet pumps in the form of a propulsive mass flow, which is accelerated in a propulsion nozzle and correspondingly generates a fluid jet with high speed and low pressures. The resulting negative pressure is used to draw a suction mass flow into the pump or nozzle device, which mixes with the drive flow, i.e. the first fluid flow. The driving mass flow or first fluid flow and the suction mass flow or second fluid flow leave the pump or nozzle device after passing through one or more diffuser stages 31, 41 which increase the pressure of the flow.
A major advantage of jet pumps is their simple construction with no moving parts. The main disadvantages include the low efficiency of such pumps, which results from the mixing of a high-speed jet with a nearly stagnant fluid.
The shear stress τ at the interface between jet and suction mass flow or between the first and second fluid flow increases with the velocity gradient of the corresponding fluid flow. The latter is usually very large due to the high speed difference between the two fluid flows. High shear stresses lead to the generation of turbulence, which in turn leads to the dissipation of primary energy, which is the reason for the low efficiency of jet pumps. A more efficient jet pump requires a reduction in the shear stresses induced by the mixing of the two mass flows. Since the jet velocity is determined by the required pump pressure, the shear stress at the interface can only be reduced by increasing the flow velocity of the suction stream in the direction of the jet stream.

The present invention is of particular utility for venting vehicle crankcases and fuel tanks. Due to the blow-by and the fuel vaporization, these components must be ventilated by appropriate jet pumps in order to comply with the current emission regulations. In this case, the air supplied to an internal combustion engine can be used as the drive fluid or as the first fluid. The air provided can be compressed air, e.g. from a turbocharger or a compressor. The present invention provides a high performance means of venting these components at idle and full throttle operation resulting in low and high driving pressures. At the same time, the present invention provides jet pumps with low consumption of motive air or motive fluid at full throttle operation of the engine.
