Description
The invention relates to a lidar sensor device for a motor vehicle, having a light transmission arrangement with at least one light transmission unit and a light reception arrangement for reflected, emitted light. In addition, the invention relates to a method for operating such a lidar sensor device in a motor vehicle and a motor vehicle.
Lidar sensors are used, in addition to and / or as a replacement for other environmental sensors, also in the automotive sector with increasing frequency. Lidar sensors use ultraviolet, visible or near-infrared light to detect objects. Lidar sensor devices therefore usually have a light transmission unit with a light source that illuminates the scene, as well as a light reception unit for light that is transmitted and reflected on at least one object. The light source is often a laser. For the detection of transmitted and reflected light, a receiving unit has as a light detection unit, for example a photomultiplier or, however, preferably a solid-state photodetector, for example a photodiode array. For example, distances to the objects can be determined using transit times.
Lidar sensors have advantages in particular with regard to at least partially, in particular completely, automated vehicle guidance functions. However, the performance of today's classic lidar sensor devices, which are used in assisted vehicle functions and safety functions, may not be sufficient for the high demands on automated driving functions, especially from
The invention is based on the object of specifying an improved lidar sensor device that provides, in particular, improved performance with regard to object classification.
To achieve this object, it is provided according to the invention in a lidar sensor device of the type mentioned above that the light receiving arrangement comprises two receiving units, each with a light detection unit and a polarizing film connected upstream thereof, the polarizing film being a first sensor data The receiving unit of the receiving units selects a first polarization direction and the polarization film of the other receiving unit receiving the second sensor data selects a second polarization direction perpendicular to the first polarization direction, a control device being provided for evaluating the first and second sensor data of the light receiving arrangement taking into account the respective polarization direction.
According to the invention, it is therefore proposed to make a modification that is easy to implement and increase the performance of a lidar sensor device, namely to use polarization-selective polarization films in order to obtain sensor data broken down according to polarization direction, which in turn makes it possible to use the lidar sensor devices for polarimetry. In other words, it is proposed to collect additional information on the direction of polarization, in particular linear polarization and / or circular polarization, in order to obtain improved information about detected objects, for example their shape and properties.
The selection of a corresponding polarization direction is carried out by means of polarization foils which are transparent to light of a certain polarization direction (and which block the polarization direction perpendicular thereto). In this way, polarization directions can be filtered. The polarization foils are attached at least on the receiving side so that the backscattered or reflected light can be divided into two parts, the first and second polarization directions preferably being able to be linear polarizations, in particular being able to be selected from the group comprising horizontal and vertical polarization. Then, for example, horizontal and vertical components arise as first and second sensor data, which can be evaluated both separately, but also together, in order to be able to draw further conclusions, as is fundamentally known from polarimetry. In principle, the use of circular polarizations is also conceivable (in particular left or right circular).
In the context of the present invention, however, it is also conceivable and advantageous if the lidar sensor device has a polarization film, which is connected or can be connected downstream of the light transmission unit in the transmission path, for setting a transmission polarization direction of the transmitted light. A polarization film can therefore also be used on the transmission side so that the polarization direction of the transmitted light is fixed and, for example, polarization changes can be observed. It should be noted here that in alternative configurations the light transmission unit itself or an additional element can also be configured differently in order to transmit light of a specific polarization direction, in particular either the first or the second polarization direction. For example, light of the first or second polarization direction can be generated in a targeted manner and / or another optical element can be used on the transmission side in order to convert polarization-diverse light emitted by the light source into emitted light of a specific polarization direction. In general, it can therefore be said that the light transmission unit is preferably designed to provide a specific polarization direction of the transmitted light in a targeted manner. In order to make this possible in a simple manner, a polarization film can also be used for this purpose.
The polarization films, in particular in a carrier material, can preferably comprise a dichroic material. Dichroic materials usually have at least one optical axis, and the arrangement of the molecules in the crystal material allows certain polarizations to be blocked and others to pass through, so that dichroic materials ultimately act as a type of filter. In a specific embodiment, plastic or glass, for example, can be used as the carrier material, with copper (II) acetate monohydrate, for example, being used as the dichroic material.
In a particularly preferred embodiment of the present invention, it can be provided that the light detection units, in particular designed as pixel arrays, are arranged adjacent, the control device being designed to assign first to second sensor data, in particular pixels to one another, which relate to the same reflection location. While it is fundamentally conceivable to use two separate pixel arrays as light detection units, it is also entirely possible, for example, to assign areas on a pixel array to a respective polarization direction. The light detection units, in particular pixel arrays, are therefore covered separately with different polarization films, so that each of the two pixel arrays detects reflected light of different polarization directions. For example, the polarization films can be glued onto the pixel arrays. In this way, the two components of the polarization, for example vertical and horizontal components or left-rotating and right-rotating polarization components, can be detected separately.
The two light detection units, in particular pixel arrays, are particularly preferably designed to be of the same size and / or are arranged directly next to one another, in particular at a distance that is less than 1 cm. If the pixel arrays are of the same size, the distance between the corresponding pixels is constant and can thus be taken into account by the control device, for example in detection software, in order to be able to find corresponding pixels whose polarization components are to be compared. Especially in the context of two light detection units arranged close together, it is expedient in any case if the light transmitting unit and the two receiving units form a monostatic lidar sensor. This means that the light transmitting unit and the two receiving units are arranged close to one another in a common housing. In other words, in this embodiment, the lidar sensor device can comprise a monostatic lidar sensor which has a light transmitting unit and two receiving units, in particular in the case of pixel arrays with different polarization sequences, at a short distance within a housing.
In another embodiment, it is also conceivable within the scope of the present invention to provide two light transmitting units that are spaced apart from one another as part of the light transmitting arrangement, i.e. in particular to provide two monostatic lidar sensors with different housings, each of the two lidar sensors having a receiving unit with a light detection unit and a having a polarizing film. For example, the two monostatic lidar sensors can be installed in a motor vehicle at a distance greater than 1 m, for example 1.5 m. The control device fuses the reflection points with different polarization directions in a central, downstream processing of the sensor data. For example, a suitable fusion algorithm can be provided by the (central) control device. In other words, in this less preferred embodiment, it is conceivable to use two lidar sensors, i.e. two light transmitting units each with an associated light receiving unit, the control device arithmetically assigning first and second sensor data to one another for polarimetry evaluation.
Specifically, it can be provided that the control device is designed to determine a first ratio of the proportions of the first polarization direction and the second polarization direction in the received light and / or a second ratio for at least a proportion of the first and / or the second polarization direction in the received light to the transmission power is, preferably pixel and / or reflection location. The control device can be designed to evaluate the first ratio to determine a direction of extent of a reflective object and / or to evaluate the at least one second ratio to determine at least one item of quality information of the reflective object. The direction of extent and / or the quality information can preferably be used in a classification algorithm for the reflective object.
From polarimetry it is generally known that vertically oriented objects reflect vertically polarized radiation better, while horizontally oriented objects reflect horizontally polarized radiation better. Depending on the size of the ratio between the horizontal and the vertical part of the polarization (first ratio), a statement can be made about the direction of extension of the reflecting objects. It is useful here if the components of the polarization directions are also set relative to the transmission power in order to be able to assess the nature of the object (second ratio). For example, objects that contain water tend to be more absorbent than reflective. For the second ratio, a sum of the proportions of the first and second polarization directions is preferably used and set in relation to the transmission power, whereby the evaluation can be refined if only the proportion of the first polarization direction and only the proportion of the second are used as further second ratios The direction of polarization can be set in relation to the transmission power.
In particular, as has already been described above with regard to the assignment, first and second sensor data corresponding to one another, in particular in corresponding pixels, are used to form the respective relationships, for example in the case of two, in particular immediately adjacent, pixel arrays, the pixel values corresponding to pixels assigned to one another as first and second sensor data which relate at least approximately to the same reflective point on the object. It is also possible to combine several reflection points / pixels to form one object, in which case overall relationships for objects can be viewed. Overall, it is thus possible to better detect directions of expansion of objects and / or to estimate the nature of the objects, for example wet, dry, absorbent or highly reflective. In this way, spherical structures can also be differentiated from linearly extended obstacles. Evaluation approaches from radar polarimetry, as are fundamentally known in the prior art, can also be used.
In particular in the case that the light transmission unit already generates such transmitted light that only contains a certain one of the polarization directions, preferably also through the use of a polarization film, it can be provided with particular advantage that the Control device is designed to detect multiple reflections based on the received polarization direction and to at least partially exclude and / or separate multiple reflections during the evaluation. In the context of the present invention, for example, simple reflections can expediently be distinguished from multiple reflections. This is because in the prior art it is precisely the superposition of several different reflection paths on the receiving side that makes the detection more difficult, with ghost targets specifically being able to be generated by multiple reflections and / or the noise level being increased by superimposing. If the reflection paths are separated depending on the polarization direction, the noise components can also be separated, which means that the noise level for a certain polarization direction is lower than for the other polarization direction. In this way, the sensitivity of the lidar sensor device can be improved, which in turn, conversely, also enables the range to be increased without the transmission power (eye safety) being increased.
The distinction between an even and an odd number of reflections is based on the fact that the direction of polarization is changed in the event of a reflection. Through the separation, in particular by excluding double reflections, the susceptibility to errors with regard to ghost targets or ambiguities can be reduced. Furthermore, a better signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) can be achieved, which manifests itself in an increased sensitivity, which is noticeable over a greater range.
The lidar sensor device can advantageously be designed for pulsed operation, in particular as a flash lidar sensor device. With the flash lidar concept, the scenery is illuminated once in a time step, whereupon the individual reflections are evaluated on the receiving side. With the flash lidar it is possible to set a certain polarization when transmitting and then to measure for both polarization directions on the receiving side.
Je nach der Strahlgröße für das gesendete Licht können mit dem Polarimetrie-Ansatz unterschiedliche Anwendungsmöglichkeiten im automotiven Bereich adressiert werdenOf course, however, the approach according to the invention can also be used when using scanning lidar sensors, that is to say when using a narrow beam on the transmitting side that successively covers the detection area. Such lidar sensors are also referred to as high-resolution. Depending on the beam size for the transmitted light, the polarimetry approach can address different application possibilities in the automotive sector
In summary, the present invention proposes the implementation of polarimetry also for lidar sensor devices, a simple implementation being used there, since polarization films with specific properties can select specific polarization directions of the light in an uncomplicated, easy-to-implement manner. They can be added easily and in a space-saving manner, for example glued on. This differs from a radar sensor, where the polarization has to be implemented through antenna channels.
In addition to the lidar sensor device, the present invention also relates to a method for operating a lidar sensor device of the type according to the invention, the first and second sensor data of the light receiving arrangement being evaluated taking into account the respective polarization direction. All statements relating to the lidar sensor device according to the invention can be transferred analogously to the method according to the invention, with which the advantages already mentioned can also be obtained.
Finally, the present invention also relates to a motor vehicle having at least one lidar sensor device of the type according to the invention. The previous explanations can also be applied accordingly to this. In particular, the motor vehicle can also include a vehicle system designed for at least partially, in particular completely automatic, guidance of the motor vehicle, which uses the first and second sensor data of the lidar sensor device and / or a corresponding evaluation result.
