Description
The Invention relates to a process for the preparation of fine particulate additives, in particular stabilizers, erosion modifiers and / or energy carriers, offset Particles of ammonium dinitramide (ADN).
In the application are both for the production as well as the processing of compactable particles with regular grain shape and narrow particle size distribution he wishes. In many cases There is a need to add additives in particular the shelf life to improve and / or the burn characteristics individually to the desired Use to be adapted. For this purpose, on the one hand stabilizers, which inhibit the propensity of ADN for autocatalytic decomposition or completely prohibit, on the other hand erosion modifiers provided, which catalytically affect the burning rate of ADN. Further is to increase the power or the specific impulse often the addition of energy sources, such as Explosives or oxidizers, beneficial.
The solid, mostly powdery Additives are usually in the desired mass ratio with the crystalline ADN mixed in the form of a solid mixture. The disadvantage is that due of cohesion forces of the fine particulate Additive agglomerates are formed and thereby an only inhomogeneous Mixture with the ADN is achieved so that the burn-off properties of a propellant from such a mixture locally vary greatly and are not reproducible. In particular, fine particulate additives However, their effects unfold depending on theirs with the ADN in contact surface, so that one preferably homogeneous distribution of the fine particles in the ADN is necessary.
Further It is known to melt the ADN and the powdered additives to be dispersed in the melt. Subsequently, the dispersion by means of Nozzles atomized. On this way, although a much more homogeneous distribution of Additives produced in the generated ADN particles, but arise relatively irregular particles and it comes while sputtering to segregations of the continuous (ADN) and the disperse phase (Additives). In particular, ADN tends to be above its melting temperature from about 93 ° C to Decomposition, so that the ADN basically only possible should be melted for a short time. In contrast, the ADN However, be kept sufficiently long in the molten state to to achieve a homogeneous distribution of the additives in the ADN melt and that of atomization supply. The same applies to the use of in molten ADN soluble Additives.
Of the Invention is based on the object, a method of the initially to further develop such a way that a homogeneous distribution of Additives in the ADN particles while avoiding as much as possible thermal impairment the same is achieved.
According to the invention this Task in a method of the type mentioned solved in that solid, fine particulate, hydrophilic additives are migrated into the ADN by adding the additives into a matrix fluid, in which both the additives and the ADN are difficult or impossible soluble are, are dispersed and the dispersion to a temperature heated in the range or above the melting temperature of the ADN, The ADN is introduced into the dispersion and emulsified in the molten state and with migration of the additive particles in the ADN droplets with brought into contact with the solid additives, the dispersion then on a temperature below the melting temperature of the ADN is cooled and the solid ADN particles with the incorporated additive particles from the matrix fluid be separated.

The However, to date no known suggestions have been made by experts in the art to solve the problem underlying the invention. Surprisingly, it was found that at Use fine particulate Additives with a sufficiently hydrophilic character to be of the emulsified ADN to be wetted, a spontaneous migration of the additives into the ADN droplets takes place, what - after Freezing of the same - too ADN particles with incorporated in these additives. It will in a short time a homogeneous and uniform distribution of the additives in the emulsified ADN droplets achieved, with all generated ADN particles an identical and in particular reproducible proportion of additives exhibit. A control of the percentage of additives in the ADN particles is easy on the amount of the matrix liquid or the emulsion added additives possible. By means of the method according to the invention Thus, regular ADN particles with homogeneous in these distributed additives and consequently best possible Contact the additives obtained with the ADN, with a thermal impairment The ADN is avoided as much as possible because of the ADN particles the big the mass transfer available standing surface only can be briefly melted and immediately cooled again. agglomerations the additives and the ADNs are just as surely avoided as are local ones Demixing of the components mentioned. Moreover, the matrix fluid provides sure that's strong hygroscopic ADN during adding the additives no water, e.g. Humidity, absorbs. A rapid crystallization of the ADN particles mixed with the additives on cooling the dispersion is ensured by the fine particulate additives, which act as crystallization seeds. The separation of the phase mixture takes place exclusively due to the different melting points of ADN and matrix fluid.
The ADN may be in crystalline state in the heated matrix fluid be introduced and melted, or the ADN is melted in advance and the ADN melt is introduced directly into the matrix liquid. The additives and the adn can the matrix fluid be added at the same time or in succession, with only take care it is to be borne that the ADN not overheated and after the migration of the additives is quickly cooled again.
The Preparation of the dispersion of matrix liquid and additives or ADN is done by introducing energy into the fluid system. This can be agitated, e.g. by shaking, stirring, etc., or by Coupling of vibrations into the system, e.g. by ultrasound, happen. If the ADN is melted before it is introduced into the matrix fluid, It can do so by injecting the melt into the matrix liquid or emulsified vice versa.
Around the largest possible volume of the droplets of the emulsified ADN phase to form a preferably finely dispersed emulsion or dispersion and thus a large mass transfer area for Available too The concentration of the ADN in the matrix fluid is adjusted preferably at most 50 Mass .-% and in particular set to at most 40 Mass .-%. The separated from the solid, interspersed with ADN particles matrix liquid can be reused, for example, applied to fresh additives and be recirculated.

For the production of stabilized ADN particles, finely particulate magnesium oxide (MgO) is dispersed in paraffin oil as the matrix liquid. Various stirrers, such as blade or propeller stirrers etc., or ultrasound are suitable for the preparation of the dispersion. The dispersion is heated to about 100 ° C with continuous stirring. Then, 20 mass% solid ADN is added and the ADN in the matrix liquid is melted and emulsified. The emulsifier used is hydrophobized silicon dioxide (SiO 2 ). As the disperse phase of molten, finely-emulsified ADN contacts the MgO particles dispersed in the continuous phase, the MgO particles are wetted by the ADN and migrate into the interior of the ADN droplets. The SiO 2 added as an emulsifier is not wetted by the polarity of ADN and remains in the continuous phase. After a few minutes, the dispersion is subsequently cooled to room temperature with continuous introduction of stirring energy and / or ultrasound and the solid MgO-containing ADN particles are separated off from the matrix liquid and the MgO remaining there, for example by filtration, centrifuging, sedimentation or the like. After separation, the ADN particles can still be washed with a suitable solvent and dried.
In this way, spherical ADN particles having defined particle properties, such as mean particle size, particle size distribution and specific surface area, are obtained with a proportion of 3.3 mass% homogeneously distributed MgO. The proportion of MgO determined by means of atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-ACS) to be adjusted by the total amount of MgO dispersed in the matrix liquid, whereby the minimum proportion of about 2% by weight MgO necessary for the stabilization of ADN should be taken care of. Likewise, the average particle size of the resulting stabilized ADN particles by appropriate agitation of the Dis Controlling persion during cooling and / or by the type and amount of the emulsifiers used in a wide interval. In the present embodiment, an average particle size of 360 microns was obtained. A homogeneous distribution of the additive (MgO) in the ADN particles can be detected for example by light microscopic examination of the product obtained in different light levels.
