Description
The invention relates to a steam turbine system according to the preamble of claim 1, as well as a method for operating such a steam turbine system according to the preamble of
Steam turbine systems usually comprise a single-stage or multi-stage steam turbine, which is operated with water vapor as the working medium. The steam for operating the steam turbine is usually provided by a steam generator. The steam generator can be, for example, a fired or electrically heated boiler. The steam provided by the steam generator is expanded in the steam turbine, while the thermal energy of the steam is converted into rotational energy. The rotational energy can then be used, for example, to drive a generator or a drive.
It would be desirable if the energy for steam generation could be stored as simply and with little loss as possible, so that it can be called up when required. This is particularly important with the increasing provision of electrical energy from regenerative energies, in which the point in time of energy provision, for example through wind or solar energy, does not always coincide with the point in time of the energy demand.
It is known to use electrical energy to break down water into hydrogen and oxygen with the aid of electrolysis and to store it temporarily until electricity and / or heat are required.
If the energy is required, the hydrogen and oxygen can be brought to react in a controlled manner in a hydrogen burner by means of oxidation. The hydrogen burner is designed in such a way that the hydrogen is brought into contact with the oxygen inside the burner. During oxidation, a high level of thermal energy is released, which can be used to drive an expansion machine (turbo machine, piston machine), which in turn generates electricity via a generator. Due to the temperatures, the hydrogen burner must always be cooled. The cooling usually takes place via a corresponding water cooling.
Due to the pressure and the temperature occurring during the oxidation of the hydrogen, the water vapor produced during the oxidation could previously only be expanded in gas turbines or their derivatives. The expansion in the gas turbine is characterized by a relatively poor degree of efficiency and an open process. As a result of the open process, the expanded steam cannot be used for any further profitable use. A further disadvantage with the use in a gas turbine is that the oxidation does not take place with pure oxygen, but with air, so that climate-damaging No x is formed during the oxidation. Based on the prior art, the object of the invention is to provide a steam turbine system which enables the energy stored in hydrogen and oxygen to be used directly in a steam turbine.
A further object of the invention is to provide a method for operating such a steam turbine system. The object is achieved with regard to the steam turbine system by the features of independent claim 1 and with regard to the method for operating such a steam turbine system by the features of
Advantages and developments of the invention, which can be used individually or in combination with one another, are the subject of the subclaims.
- - an electrolyzer to generate oxygen and hydrogen from water,
- - an oxygen storage tank for storing the oxygen and a hydrogen storage tank for storing the hydrogen,
- - a hydrogen burner for mixing and burning the oxygen and hydrogen to form combustion steam,
- - An injection device for injecting water into the combustion steam to form a working steam
- - a steam turbine to relax the working steam,
- - a condenser to condense the working steam.
In this patent application, “burning steam” refers to the steam that is formed during the oxidation / combustion of hydrogen with oxygen; "Working steam" is the steam mixture of combustion steam and evaporated water, which is injected into the combustion steam.
Die Erfindung schließt jedoch auch offene Kreisläufe mit ein."Working cycle" means that the individual components of the steam turbine system are physically connected to one another via appropriate lines and the working fluid can flow from one component to the other, whereby individual components, For example, the oxygen and hydrogen storage can also be arranged parallel to one another. The working circuit is preferably designed as a closed circuit. However, the invention also includes open circuits.
By combining a hydrogen burner with a downstream injection device for injecting water into the combustion steam resulting from the combustion / oxidation, the temperature of the steam can for the first time be reduced to a level that is permissible for the steam turbine. At the same time, the injection leads to a significant increase in the amount of steam. These measures make it possible for the first time to feed the steam resulting from the oxidation of hydrogen and oxygen directly to a steam turbine and to relax it there. The expansion directly in a steam turbine has the advantage over the expansion in a hydrogen-suitable gas turbine that with the expansion a significantly larger enthalpy gradient due to the lower exhaust pressure and the lower exhaust temperature (less than 1 bar and up to 20 ° C depending on Cooling water conditions of the installation site). As a result, the efficiency and the performance increase significantly compared to the gas turbine, with significantly lower costs. The reaction times for starting the steam turbine system are just as short as with a gas turbine.
One embodiment of the invention provides that the steam turbine system comprises a regenerative energy source that provides the electrical current for the electrolyzer. Renewable energy sources, for example wind energy or solar energy, offer almost unlimited amounts of energy, but not always when the energy is needed. Through electrolysis, the regenerative energy can be stored in hydrogen and oxygen and, if necessary, fed to a steam turbine as thermal energy by oxidizing the hydrogen with the oxygen. As already described, the thermal energy is converted into rotational energy within the steam turbine and, in one embodiment of the invention, can be used to drive a generator, whereby electrical power can be generated if necessary.
A further embodiment of the invention provides that a first supply line is provided, the first supply line being spatially arranged such that at least part of the working steam can be introduced into an inlet area of the steam turbine via the first supply line. Alternatively or at the same time, a second feed line can be provided, the second feed line being spatially arranged in such a way that at least part of the working steam can be introduced into a relaxation path downstream of the inlet area via the second feed line. Whether the working steam is introduced into the steam turbine via the first or the second supply line depends on the steam parameters of the working steam. These are influenced, among other things, by the pressure level provided by the electrolyzer, which is usually between 10 bar and 200 bar, and the amount and temperature of the water injected into the combustion steam. With high steam parameters (at live steam level), the resulting working steam is directed into the inlet area and with lower steam parameters in the expansion path downstream of the inlet area. In order to regulate the supply of the working steam, it is advantageous to provide the supply lines with appropriate control devices, for example control valves.
Another embodiment of the invention provides that the injection device is an integral part of the hydrogen burner. The integration of the injection device enables a particularly simple and size-optimized design of the hydrogen burner and injection device, which is particularly advantageous when retrofitting an existing conventional steam turbine system, since the installation space is often limited here.
- - Zuleitung des Arbeitsdampfs in den Eintrittsbereich der Dampfturbine und ausschließlicher Betrieb der Dampfturbinenanlage mit Arbeitsdampf;
- - Zuleitung des Zudampfs in den Eintrittsbereich der Dampfturbine und ausschließlicher Betrieb der Dampfturbinenanlage mit Zudampf;
- - Zuleitung des Arbeitsdampfs in den Eintrittsbereich der Dampfturbine und Zuleitung des Zudampfs in den Entspannungspfad der Dampfturbine;
Due to the three supply lines, the steam turbine system can be designed in a very variable manner and different operating modes are possible, for example:
- - Feeding of the working steam into the inlet area of the steam turbine and exclusive operation of the steam turbine system with working steam;
- - Feeding of the steam into the inlet area of the steam turbine and exclusive operation of the steam turbine system with steam;
- - Feeding the working steam into the inlet area of the steam turbine and feeding the additional steam into the expansion path of the steam turbine;
- - Feeding the additional steam into the inlet area of the steam turbine and feeding the working steam into the expansion path of the steam turbine.
The corresponding operating mode depends on the steam parameters of the working steam and the additional steam. As a result, the steam turbine system can be operated in the optimal operating range.
One embodiment of the invention provides that the steam generator is a boiler or an industrial process. If a boiler is used, the additional steam can be conditioned according to the requirements and the steam turbine system can also be operated at its optimal operating point when the hydrogen and oxygen storage tanks are empty or the steam parameters provided by the hydrogen burner are not sufficient for the steam turbine system in one to operate meaningful area. If an industrial process is available that can provide steam with the steam parameters required to operate the steam turbine system, then this can be used to operate the steam turbine system particularly effectively, since the steam from the industrial process would otherwise be discharged into the environment without being used.
- - Zuführen des Arbeitsdampfs zur Dampfturbine und entspannen des Arbeitsdampfs in der Dampfturbine;
- - electrolysis of water in the electrolyzer and decomposition of water into oxygen and hydrogen,
- - Storage of the oxygen in the oxygen storage and storage of the hydrogen in the hydrogen storage,
- - Mixing and combustion of oxygen and hydrogen in the hydrogen burner to form combustion steam,
- - Injection of water, by means of the injection device, into the combustion steam to form the working steam,
- - Feeding the working steam to the steam turbine and relaxing the working steam in the steam turbine;
- - Condensation of the working steam in the condenser, feeding the condensed working steam to the electrolyzer.
The advantages that have already been explained for the steam turbine system according to the invention also apply mutatis mutandis to the method according to the invention and are therefore not listed again in detail below.
In principle, the steam turbine system according to the invention and the method according to the invention for operating such a steam turbine system first of all enable the steam to be cooled down to such an extent that it is directly in a steam turbine by injecting water into the steam, which is produced during the oxidation / combustion of hydrogen and oxygen can be relaxed. The injection of water not only lowers the temperature, but also significantly increases the amount of steam. The expansion of the steam in the steam turbine, instead of the previous use of a gas turbine suitable for hydrogen, offers the advantage, as described, that a significantly larger enthalpy gradient can be used due to the lower exhaust pressure and the lower evaporation temperature of the expanded steam. This greatly increases the efficiency and performance of the machine. Another important advantage is that existing steam turbine systems can be easily retrofitted. This means that the investment costs are significantly lower than for a completely new system. In principle, any existing steam turbine system is suitable for use with hydrogen without major changes; the steam turbine system essentially only needs to be equipped (retrofitted) with appropriate hydrogen and oxygen storage systems, as well as the hydrogen burner and the injection device. The hydrogen and oxygen storage units can also be set up at a certain distance from the steam turbine, especially if there are space problems.
