Description
The invention relates to a method for forming a fusion welded joint on components made of steel, which has a proportion of non-carbide-bonded free carbon of up to 1.8% by mass and the fusion welded joint is carried out with an energy beam.
So far there are hardly any possibilities to weld hypereutectoid steels with approx.> 0.8 mass% non-carbide-bound free carbon content with an energy beam with little damage. These steels are largely not suitable for welding. The use of beam welding processes generally lead to extremely high hardening and are extremely prone to hardness cracks. Only for welding processes with very high energy input, e.g. With furnace heating or induction heating during the process, crack-free weld seams can be formed if necessary. However, these steels lose their essential properties, this affects in particular their hardness (e.g. the wear properties of cams or ball and other rolling bearings deteriorate).
In order to avoid the largely restricted suitability for welding of these high-carbon steels (e.g. C100, 100CrMnSi6-4 or 100Cr6), technically relatively complex and / or energy-intensive thermal pretreatment or post-treatment steps have been required (e.g. preheating, tempering, design compromises, masking, use of wire-shaped or pre-deposited foil-shaped iron or nickel-containing filler materials). Here too, there is a limitation in the possibilities for welding, since weldability can be achieved with increasingly higher energy inputs into the weld melt. On the other hand, the strength properties of the steel are adversely changed in a variety of ways. In addition, the thermal transient strain differences and the resulting extremely high stresses are a cause of the crack formation and thus considerably limit the possibilities of use.
Generell gilt diese Problematik als ungelöst. Durch Vermeidungsstrategien werden Fügeaufgaben dieser Stähle meist mit anderen Fügeverfahren (ohne Schmelze) mit deren spezifischen Nachteilen „gelöst“.Generally this problem is considered to be unsolved. Through avoidance strategies, joining tasks of these steels are usually “solved” with other joining methods (without melt) with their specific disadvantages.
It is therefore an object of the invention to provide possibilities for welding steels with an energy beam, which have an approx. 0.8 mass% proportion of non-carbide-bound free carbon, with which a disadvantageous impairment of the original properties of the respective steel material is avoided and the Training crack-free welds can be made possible with little effort.
According to the invention, this object is achieved with a method which has the features of
In welding processes using energy beams, in particular laser beams or electron beams, there is a contactless, concentrated introduction of energy into the steel component, in particular into the surface of a steel component. The energy beam is influenced in each case in such a way that a local temperature increase takes place at the boundary layer of the surface of a component influenced by an energy beam, which results in melting of the base materials to be welded, so that a common melting zone is formed in the After the energy input has ended, the molten pool material solidifies. These processes are generally referred to as remelting or welding.
If this locally to be melted surface of the steel component (s) is coated with an adhesive layer of carbon with a suitable layer thickness before the melting process, this pre-deposited carbon is also melted by the energy beam and mixed into the common melt formed. This increases the carbon content of the steel material in the melting zone and a different chemical composition with a higher carbon content becomes local in the melting zone, for example in the range from 1.6% by mass to 1.8% by mass of carbon and thus different conversion and material properties than received the non-melted base material. If this melt is cooled, a lower hardness and a higher ductility (local microplastic deformation possibilities) of the solidified material of the melting zone can be achieved than was the case with the chemical composition of the base material. This can drastically reduce high transient thermal stresses as a major cause of cracks. The principle of metal physics is used that the entropy of conversion for martensite formation increases with increasing carbon content, ie the supercooling and quenching rate required for a martensitic conversion (= hardening) increases beyond what is technically achievable. After the solidification, the additional carbon introduced according to the invention stabilizes the ductile austenitic phase until it cools down to room temperature (residual austenite) and, at a sufficient level, also prevents subsequent conversion when cooling to lower, technically relevant temperatures.
With knowledge of the above-mentioned relationship, you can determine the appropriate ratio of the desired cross-sectional area of the weld pool (including weld depth or weld pool volume) and the applied carbon layer thickness (cross-sectional area) with a few adjustment attempts, depending on the base material or the base material combination selected.
This proof of the residual austenite can subsequently be carried out using suitable X-ray or metallographic methods after appropriate preparation with a light microscope on a cross section of the melting zone. Since the melt pool volumes and layer thicknesses can be reproduced extremely precisely using modern methods, the appropriate ratio of carbon layer thickness to melt pool area can also be reproduced and verified as often as required.
For example, you can form connection welds for a 100Cr6 steel that is not suitable for energy beam welding with a fast-moving, focused energy beam with extremely low energy input, in which the thickness of the previously applied carbon layer is gradually increased in several experiments until residual austenite is visible in the melting zone in the microscope (or fully detectable). Depending on experience, the appropriate layer thickness can be determined for a desired melt pool volume in terms of shape and size after a few experiments.
This procedure can be used for a wide range of steels to determine the required layer thicknesses. For example Tool steels such as C85W or 90MnCrV8, e.g. Quenched and tempered steels such as 42CrMo4 or C100, e.g. martensitic spring steels such as 51 CrV4 or Ck67, e.g. Rolling bearing steels such as 100Cr6 or 100CrMnSi6-4 can be processed as base materials with the method.
Anders gesagt:
- The carbon layer thickness to be applied to two joints of the base materials of steel components to be welded with an energy beam is increased in the setting process with several tests until a fully austenitic melting zone in the cross section can be detected over the entire surface. Once this layer thickness has been determined for a defined welding process, this layer thickness can be reproducibly applied to any number of parts to be welded and measured and monitored at any time to ensure quality.
The layer should preferably be formed from carbon with graphite, which should particularly preferably be in powder form. Powdered graphite can be used cheaply dry but also in a suspension. Suspensions can be sprayed on cheaply or printed with a suitable viscosity. The respective liquid can be removed later by drying and then the layer can be liquid-free. In addition to water with a suitable emulsifier, alcohols which have been mixed with a suitable wetting agent can also be used as the liquid.
The energy beam can be a laser beam or an electron beam.
The feed speed of the focal spot of a laser beam should be at least 1 m / min.
In connection welding, the material group of fusion-weldable steels can be expanded significantly in the direction of previously weldable or non-weldable steels with the method according to the invention (e.g. approx. C content> 1.0% by mass). Complex upstream or downstream thermal processes can largely be eliminated or minimized. The base materials largely retain their properties.
The application of carbon layers on component surfaces in many conceivable defined layer thicknesses can be carried out in an easily adjustable manner. This process can be decoupled from the previously described melting processes in terms of time and space by applying it beforehand (such as spraying, printing or steaming or other coating) in the form of pre-deposition on component surfaces made of steel. Coating the surfaces with carbon can be done at a relatively low temperature level and is therefore significantly less energy-intensive than established furnace or induction processes.
Suitable layer thicknesses of layers of carbon for the steel 100Cr6 could be determined as 0.015 mm.
The pre-deposited carbon (graphite) has the desired metal-physical properties in order to influence the melt in a suitable way (suitability for welding) in a comparatively simple way.
Werkstoff 100Cr6, 100CrMnSi6-4
- • Schweißen von Wälzlagern, Kugellagern,
