The invention further relates to a temperature-controlled battery cell arrangement according to
Housings for battery cell assemblies are known from the prior art, which are manufactured in an expensive manner as cast parts for the purpose of creating a temperature control function. In addition, it is known to assemble corresponding housings for battery cell arrangements from a large number of individual parts, which results in a high installation effort and a considerable amount of space is required.
The invention is based on the object of specifying a new type of housing for a battery cell arrangement, in particular for traction batteries in electric vehicles, which is characterized by reduced costs, reduced assembly costs and smaller installation space, while having a good temperature control effect compared to the prior art. The invention is also based on the object of specifying a method for producing such a housing and a temperature-controlled battery cell arrangement which has corresponding advantages.
The object is achieved according to the invention by a housing for a battery cell arrangement with the features of
According to a second aspect of the invention, a housing according to the invention for a battery cell arrangement, in particular for use in an electrically driven motor vehicle, has: at least one first housing part; and at least one second housing part, which second housing part is releasably connected or can be connected to the first housing part, preferably screwed; in which between the first housing part and the second housing part, in a connected state of the housing parts, a housing interior for receiving a number of battery cells is formed; in which at least one of the two housing parts has the following structure: a first cover layer made of sheet metal; a second sheet metal cover layer; an intermediate layer, arranged between the first cover layer and the second cover layer, made of a shear and compression-resistant, deformable material, which material is permanently connected to the cover layers; in which at least one of the cover layers is formed from at least two metal sheets lying next to one another, at least one of which has a structure so that channels for a heat conduction fluid for dissipating heat from the housing are formed between the two metal sheets.
The named channels, which arise due to the structuring of at least one of the metal sheets, form a flow space for the heat conduction fluid to remove heat from the housing, i. H. dissipate from the battery cell arrangement. Due to the design of the housing according to the invention described above, the channels are integrated into the housing structure, so that overall a simplified structure results with corresponding advantages in terms of costs and installation effort. The required installation space can also be reduced compared to the prior art.
Bevorzugt stehen sie untereinander in fluidischer Verbindung, um einen durchgängigen Strömungsraum für ein Wärmeleitungsfluid zu schaffen.“Structuring” is understood here and below to mean any type of three-dimensional shape of the at least one metal sheet, due to which the two metal sheets of the above-mentioned cover layer do not lie flat on top of one another, but rather form defined cavities (channels) between them that can be filled with a heat conduction fluid. The channels can - without restriction - be formed regularly or irregularly, symmetrically or asymmetrically or in some other way. They are preferably in fluidic connection with one another in order to create a continuous flow space for a heat-conducting fluid.
In a further development of the housing according to the invention it can be provided that a supply line and a discharge line are formed on at least one of the two metal sheets for supplying a heat conduction fluid to the channels and for discharging a heat conduction fluid from the channels. With such a feed line or discharge line, the housing can be integrated into an existing circuit for a heat conduction fluid in order to efficiently dissipate heat from the interior of the housing in this way.
The supply line and the discharge line are preferably located outside the interior of the housing. Accordingly, it can be provided that the channels within the relevant housing part are routed “to the outside”, that is to say up to the supply line / discharge line. This eliminates the need for additional seals in the as Cover acting on the other housing part, and assembly is facilitated.
According to a second aspect of the invention, a temperature-controlled battery cell arrangement according to the invention comprises: a housing according to the invention; at least one battery cell received in the interior of the housing; and a heat conduction fluid filled in the channels; in which the battery cell is in a thermally conductive connection with one of the two metal sheets, preferably one of the two metal sheets which is essentially flat.
In this way, the temperature-controlled battery cell arrangement according to the invention benefits from the advantages of the housing according to the invention mentioned above and thus enables the temperature control of a battery cell arrangement with reduced effort in terms of costs, assembly and required installation space. The invention is basically not limited to the temperature control of battery cells, but can be used to control the temperature of virtually any objects (electric modules such as electric motors).
A method according to the invention according to a third aspect of the invention for producing a housing for a battery cell arrangement, in particular for use in an electrically driven motor vehicle, includes the following steps: producing at least one first housing part; and producing at least one second housing part, which second housing part can be detachably connected to the first housing part; so that between the first housing part and the second housing part, in a connected state, a housing interior for receiving a number of battery cells is formed; in which at least one of the two housing parts is produced as follows: providing a first cover layer made of sheet metal; Providing a second cover layer of sheet metal; Arranging an intermediate layer made of a shear and compression-resistant, deformable material, preferably a thermoplastic material, between the first cover layer and the second cover layer; permanent bonding of the intermediate layer to the outer layers; Reshaping the arrangement of cover layers and intermediate layer to form the relevant housing part, preferably after prior heating; and preferably releasable connection of the two housing parts to form the housing.
In this way, a new type of housing for a battery cell arrangement can be manufactured in a simple and cost-effective manner. It is particularly advantageous here that the two cover layers made of sheet metal and the intermediate layer made of a shear and compression-resistant (structural) material are reshaped in one operation, which reduces the effort required. If the material mentioned is a thermoplastic synthetic material, the said deformation is preferably carried out after the entire arrangement of the two cover layers and the material arranged between them has been heated beforehand, after the two cover layers and the material have been permanently connected to one another, e.g. glued together.
In a further development of the housing according to the invention, it can be provided that the at least one housing part has an essentially flat, plate-shaped configuration. Such a flat, plate-shaped housing part can advantageously be used to arrange a battery cell arrangement to be temperature-controlled or another (electrical) module to be temperature-controlled, such as an electric motor or the like, in order to achieve the largest possible heat transfer.
In a further development of the housing according to the invention, it can also be provided that the other housing part has a trough-shaped or shell-shaped configuration. With a housing part shaped in this way, battery cell arrangements to be temperature-controlled or other modules to be temperature-controlled can easily be covered in order to protect them in particular from external damage.
In addition, in a further development of the housing according to the invention it can be provided that the at least one, preferably flat housing part has a circumferentially closed contact structure in the form of a step or the like, which is designed to cooperate in a sealing manner with one edge of the other, preferably trough-shaped housing part. Such a circumferentially closed contact structure, which can be designed as a continuous step, acts as a kind of centering edge in order to be able to place a trough-shaped or shell-shaped cover housing part in a defined manner on the at least one housing part. In addition, a seal can be present in the area of the contact structure on one and / or the other housing part.
In another development of the housing according to the invention, it can be provided that the cover layers are formed from steel, preferably from stainless steel. Such a selection of materials has proven to be particularly advantageous because it gives the housing a particular resistance to external, in particular corrosive, harmful effects.
In yet another further development of the housing according to the invention, it can be provided that the intermediate layer is formed from a plastic, preferably a thermoplastic Plastic, most preferably a polyimide, in particular polymethacrylimide (PMI) or a comparable material. Such a material advantageously has a closed cell structure, a high degree of mechanical stability, high temperature resistance and good formability after appropriate heating.
In an advantageous development of the housing according to the invention it can be provided that the other metal sheet runs essentially in one plane and in which the at least one metal sheet is shaped (structured) for the purpose of forming the channels in such a way that walls of the channels are smaller at an angle with respect to the plane or are oriented equal to 45 degrees. Such a design of the channel walls has proven to be advantageous because then in particular shear forces can be optimally absorbed.
It has proven to be advantageous if, in a further development of the housing according to the invention, the cover layers are materially connected to the intermediate layer, preferably glued. In this way, a permanently firm connection of the cover layers with the intermediate layer is achieved, which results in excellent durability of the entire housing.
Finally, in a further development of the housing according to the invention, it can also be provided that the metal sheets are also connected to one another in areas between the channels, preferably materially, most preferably welded. This results in a permanent, defined shape of the channels. Furthermore, such a configuration has advantages with regard to the manufacturability of the housing according to the invention.
A preferred development of the battery cell arrangement according to the invention according to the second aspect of the invention comprises storage and conveying means for the heat conduction fluid for providing the heat conduction fluid, for supplying the heat conduction fluid to the channels and for discharging the heat conduction fluid from the channels. In this way, the housing with its channels is integrated into a circuit for the heat conduction fluid, so that heat can be dissipated from the interior of the housing or from the battery cell arrangement in a process-reliable manner. In addition, the housing can advantageously have at least one electrical connection for contacting the battery cell arrangement.
In an advantageous development of the method according to the invention according to the third aspect of the invention, it can be provided that at least one of the cover layers is produced from at least two metal sheets lying one on top of the other, which metal sheets are firmly connected to one another in areas, preferably materially, most preferably welded, soldered or glued, and that at least one of the metal sheets is provided with a structure so that channels for a heat conduction fluid for dissipating heat from the housing are formed between the two metal sheets by introducing a fluid under pressure between the metal sheets between interconnected areas of the metal sheets to at least to reshape one of the metal sheets, while preferably at least one of the metal sheets, most preferably the other metal sheet, is supported against a compressive force of the fluid.
Due to the material connection of the two metal sheets, the channels to be formed can be geometrically predefined and then shaped in a process-technically simple manner by introducing a pressurized fluid between the metal sheets. In this case, at least one of the metal sheets can preferably be supported against a compressive force of the fluid in order, for example, to achieve a flat, level design for this one metal sheet. Additionally or alternatively, the other metal sheet can also be supported in order to achieve a desired structuring of the channels. Said support is preferably carried out by providing a suitable tool in each case.
In another advantageous development of the method according to the invention, it can also be provided that a supply line and a discharge line are formed on at least one of the two metal sheets for supplying a heat-conducting fluid to the channels and for discharging a heat-conducting fluid from the channels. In this way, the finished housing - as already mentioned - can be integrated into an (existing) circuit for a heat conduction fluid, in order to conduct the heat conduction fluid via the supply line into the channels and divert it back out of the channels via the discharge line. In this way, an effective temperature control of an (electrical) module arranged or to be arranged in the interior of the housing, in particular a battery cell arrangement, can be achieved.
In the following, the invention is summarized again by way of example using a specific exemplary embodiment. It accordingly comprises the integral design of a battery housing (housing for a battery cell arrangement) with a sandwich structure (cover layers and intermediate layer) and integrated battery cooling (channels).
One possible structure of the housing comprises (from the outside to the inside) a first cover layer, preferably a thin-walled steel sheet, a core made of the material mentioned, a so-called cooling layer in the form of a thin-walled metal / steel sheet, beaded or structured, and a second metal sheet ( preferably a thin-walled steel sheet). The two metal sheets together form a second cover layer.
All layers are preferably materially connected to one another in such a way that shear and pressure forces can be transmitted.
8. Vernetzung des Klebstoffs unter geeigneter Temperatureinwirkung; 9. Entformung; 10. Besäumung/Umbördelung der Decklagen zwecks randseitig sicherer Verbindung. The manufacturing process is preferably carried out as follows: 1. Introduction of hydraulic connections in the second cover layer, i.e. the second metal sheet; 2. Welding / connection of the two metal sheets of the second cover layer in the required cooling channel pattern, the geometry of the welding / connection causing a corresponding course of the channels; 3. Surface treatment (cleaning / roughening, e.g. corona treatment); 4. Stacking of the structure including application of adhesive for the purpose of connecting the top layers and core; 5. Heating of all components to forming temperature; 6. Thermoplastic reshaping of the core and reshaping of the outer layers (together); 7. Hydraulic shaping of the (cooling) channels with the (tool) cavity closed into the core, i.e. into the material in question by applying (fluid) pressure to the hydraulic connections. 8. Crosslinking of the adhesive under the action of a suitable temperature; 9. demolding; 10. Trimming / beading of the top layers for the purpose of a secure connection on the edge.
In principle, there is also the option of reshaping the components (layers) individually or reshaping the metal sheets in advance, if the thermoplastically deformable core cannot absorb the reshaping forces of the steel sheets. Alternatively, aluminum or another cover layer material or a combination of different materials can be used.
Furthermore, the (cooling) channel structure in the wall of the housing can be designed in such a way that the fluid inlet and outlet (inlet or outlet) are routed through the core material to the outside, which makes the connection to a circuit for the heat conduction fluid, in particular the Temperature control circuit of a vehicle, facilitated. Breakthroughs through the housing for cables for regulation and energy supply or discharge are also advantageously provided.
In addition, a large-area cooling channel at a mechanically lightly stressed point of the housing can be used to create a pressure in the interior of the housing via the heat conduction fluid through elastic deformation of the inner cover layer, ie of the sheet metal in question in the direction of the fluid or inward (in the direction of the housing interior) Interior and exterior are balanced.
The present invention creates extensive functional integration, including tightness / leakage protection, corrosion protection (especially when using a suitable steel), avoidance of water absorption (compared to plastic housings), fire protection, resistance to intrusion (crash), thermal insulation, rigidity / damping and Installation space reduction through cooling integrated in the supporting structure.
