Description
The invention relates to a method for reducing the concentration of nitrogen oxides in a flue gas stream of a combustion reaction. The invention also relates to a device for carrying out the above method.
In a combustion reaction, such as that which takes place in a biomass plant or a waste incineration plant, the material conversion process produces combustion products as flue gases. The nitrogen oxides contained in the flue gas are harmful to humans and the environment, which is why the concentration of nitrogen oxides in the flue gas is reduced with the help of so-called primary or secondary measures during flue gas denitrification.
While the primary measures are concerned with preventing nitrogen oxides from being created in the first place through optimized combustion processes, the secondary measures, on the other hand, deal with reducing the concentration of the nitrogen oxides that have already formed in the flue gas. One possibility is to reduce the nitrogen oxides to elemental nitrogen, for example by spraying in ammonia. In the case of reductive processes, a further distinction is made between selective non-catalytic reduction (SNCR) and selective catalytic reduction (SCR), depending on whether the reaction is mediated by a catalyst or not.
When denitrifying flue gas by means of SCR, V 2 O 5 / MoO 3 / TiO 2 metal catalysts, which consist of a carrier material (monolith) and the catalytic coating, are predominantly used in industrial plants. As high-temperature catalysts, they are used in industrial plants at temperatures from 280 ° C to 380 ° C, as they are relatively insensitive to the dust contained in the flue gas. In order to achieve the temperatures required for efficient denitrification in this process, reduced energy recovery from waste heat from combustion must be accepted. In addition, these catalysts can be poisoned by gaseous trace impurities (for example sulfur compounds) and lose their catalytic effect as a result. Furthermore, due to the given geometry of the flow, only a limited residence time of the flue gas with the catalyst is possible, since the catalyst is stationary in the coating of the monolith.
Based on this, the object of the invention is to provide a method and a device for performing the method, which overcomes the listed disadvantages of the prior art and has a high degree of efficiency in reducing the concentration of nitrogen oxides in the flue gas flow.
This object is achieved by the subject matter of the independent patent claims. Preferred developments can be found in the subclaims.
- a) Bereitstellen eines Katalysatorvorläufers,
- a) providing a catalyst precursor,
- b) producing a catalyst from the catalyst precursor, wherein the catalyst produced comprises nanoparticles,
- c) feeding the prepared catalyst to the flue gas stream,
- d) feeding ammonia, NH 3 , or an ammonia precursor to the flue gas stream as a reducing agent, and
- e) reducing the concentration of nitrogen oxides in the flue gas flow by a first SCR by means of the catalytic converter and the reducing agent in the flue gas flow,
The basic idea of the process according to the invention is that the catalyst in the sense of an online synthesis is produced essentially directly at or at the place of use at the time of use or insignificantly before the time of use. This spatial and temporal connection between the production of the catalyst and the use of the catalyst can be implemented in the process in at least two ways:
According to the invention it is provided that, for the production of the catalyst, the catalyst precursor is fed to the combustion reaction from which the flue gas flow originates. The combustion reaction also serves to produce the catalyst here. As a consequence of this, the production of the catalyst takes place essentially in the flue gas stream originating from the combustion reaction, that is to say essentially at the place where the catalyst is also used. This has the particular advantage that by supplying the catalyst precursor to the combustion reaction, the catalyst produced is also supplied to the flue gas stream. In this case, therefore, no independent action is required for method step c).
Alternatively, it is provided according to the invention that the catalyst precursor is fed to a supporting combustion reaction for the production of the catalyst. The auxiliary combustion reaction can be, for example, a flame from a gas burner. It is preferably provided that the auxiliary combustion reaction is located in the flue gas flow, so that by feeding the catalyst precursor to the auxiliary combustion reaction, the catalyst produced is also fed to the flue gas flow. In this preferred case, no independent action is required for process step c). Alternatively, the auxiliary combustion reaction can also be located in spatial proximity to the flue gas flow, for example essentially directly upstream of the flue gas flow. In this case, the catalyst produced is fed to the flue gas stream essentially directly afterwards for the production of the catalyst.
The catalyst in the process according to the invention can have a very high catalytic activity. The high catalytic activity is due on the one hand to the fact that the catalyst comprises nanoparticles and thus has a very high surface area. Furthermore, the production of the catalyst, which takes place essentially directly before use and essentially directly at the point of use, means that the surface of the catalyst has essentially not yet been exposed to any or only a few influences which would have led to a reduction in the catalytic activity can.
Furthermore, the process according to the invention means that there can be a long contact time between the starting materials of the first SCR and the catalyst in process step e). In process step e), the catalyst is located in the flue gas flow, which means that the nanoparticles move with the nitrogen oxides and the reducing agent in the flue gas flow. Thus, the contact time between the nitrogen oxides, the reducing agent and the catalytic converter is much longer than if the catalytic converter were stationary. The first SCR therefore takes place in the entrained flow, which can contribute to a particularly intensive and rapid exchange of substances and / or heat in the SCR.
The high catalytic activity of the catalytic converter and the long contact time between the starting materials of the first SCR and the catalytic converter can result in the process having a very high degree of efficiency. As a result, the method can also be used effectively at low temperatures of the flue gas flow in the range T ≤ 200 ° C.
The method according to the invention is therefore particularly suitable for denitrifying flue gas streams from waste incineration plants, biogas plants, biomass firing plants, firing plants, industrial plants, coal and / or gas turbine power plants.
In a combustion reaction, the substance conversion process produces combustion products, with the gaseous combustion products usually being referred to as exhaust gases. Depending on the type of combustion, the exhaust gas can contain various other substances, for example solids such as soot, dust particles and / or fly ash, or liquid components such as water, oil vapors and / or acid vapors.
In the context of the invention, flue gas is understood to mean the mixture of gaseous combustion products (exhaust gas) and solids that occurs during the combustion of fuels. Furthermore, the flue gas can additionally comprise liquid components. For example, flue gas can consist of a mixture of the gases nitrogen (N 2 ), carbon dioxide (CO 2 ), sulfur dioxide (SO 2 ), nitrogen monoxide (NO) and the solid particles fly ash and soot.
Nitrogen oxides is a collective term for numerous gaseous oxides of nitrogen that can be contained in the flue gas. Nitrogen oxides include, for example, the species NO, NO 2 , N 2 O 3 and N 2 O 4 . Since nitrogen oxides can have unfavorable effects on people and the environment, the concentration of nitrogen oxides in the flue gas is reduced as part of the flue gas denitrification.
In selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of nitrogen oxides, the nitrogen oxides are selectively reduced on the catalytic converter using a reducing agent. The product of the reaction is water (H 2 O) and nitrogen (N 2 ). Undesired side reactions such as the oxidation of sulfur dioxide to sulfur trioxide are largely suppressed.
Ammonia (NH 3 ) or an ammonia precursor is usually used as a reducing agent in SCR. In the context of the invention, ammonia precursors are understood to mean chemical compounds which decompose to form ammonia in the flue gas stream. For example, urea ((NH 2 ) 2 CO), ammonium sulfate ((NH 4 ) 2 SO 4 ) and / or cyanuric acid (C 3 H 3 N 3 O 3 ) can be used as ammonia precursors.
The catalyst produced in process step b) comprises nanoparticles. In the context of the invention, nanoparticles are understood to mean particles in the range from 5 nm to 50 nm. The nanoparticles can have a broad distribution or a narrow distribution of different sizes. Furthermore, it is possible that it is the catalyst is composite nanoparticles, i.e. particles made up of several components, at least one of which is nanoscale.
- f) separating the catalyst from the flue gas flow by means of a surface filter, and
- g) reducing the concentration of nitrogen oxides in the flue gas flow by means of a second SCR using the catalyst on the surface filter and using the reducing agent in the flue gas flow.
These additional process steps have several advantages. By separating the catalyst in process step f), it can be prevented that the catalyst gets into the environment. The process is therefore environmentally friendly. The catalyst deposited in the surface filter and / or filter cake also has a high catalytic activity. Thus, in method step g), the nitrogen oxide concentration in the flue gas flow is reduced even further by a second SCR. This makes the process particularly effective in denitrifying the flue gas flow.
Process step f) preferably also comprises a separation of solids from the flue gas flow by means of the surface filter. The solids contained in the flue gas flow, in particular dust and soot, therefore remain in the surface filter, which leads to a cleaning of the flue gas flow. The solids in the flue gas stream are deposited together with the catalyst on the surface of the filter medium or on the surface of the filter cake deposited thereon. To separate out the smallest particles and to prevent irreversible clogging of the surface filter, a thin (approx. 1 mm) layer of a filter aid (e.g. hydrated lime powder) is applied to the surface filter. In addition, if hydrated lime is used as a filter aid, acidic pollutant gases can also be bound from the raw gas. In principle, this step corresponds to the dedusting of the flue gas. The combined denitrification and dedusting of the flue gas flow leads to a particularly cost-effective process.
In principle, any type of surface filter, which is also called a fabric filter, can be used. However, the surface filter preferably comprises a bag filter. A bag filter is to be understood as a filter in which the filter medium is shaped into a tube. Bag filters have established themselves as separators in numerous industrial processes, such as gas cleaning and dedusting, so that the use of a bag filter means that method steps f) and g) can be implemented particularly easily in existing processes.
Due to the combination of denitrification and dedusting, as well as the simple integration into existing systems, the process is particularly suitable for use in combustion systems operated with biogenic residues and waste materials in the power range of up to 5 MW thermal output. The reduction processes for individual pollutants that exist in the power plant sector cannot always be used economically in decentralized biomass plants. The combination of denitrification and dedusting in one compact module saves investment and operating costs, which enables economical use in small and medium-sized systems.
According to a preferred development of the method, method steps a) to g) are carried out continuously. Continuous implementation of the process steps means that the process runs essentially without interruption. A continuous process has the advantage over a discontinuous process (batch process) that it is more economical, since the downtimes for cleaning and refilling typical for batch processes are eliminated. The continuous implementation of process steps a) to g) thus results in the process having high productivity due to lower downtimes.
In principle, different catalysts can be used for the SCR of nitrogen oxides, for example the metal oxides V 2 O 5 , MoO 3 and / or TiO 2 . According to a preferred development of the invention, however, it is provided that process step b) a production of a metal oxide M x O y from the group M = {iron (Fe), manganese (Mn), cobalt (Co), nickel (Ni), copper ( Cu)} includes. These metals have the advantage that they are comparatively inexpensive, which makes the process very economical. Due to the freshly produced metal oxides and the relatively short useful life of these metal oxides, catalyst poisoning is not relevant for the process. The method thus has a very high level of efficiency.
In connection with the production of the catalyst, a preferred development of the invention provides that method step a) comprises providing a liquid catalyst precursor. Liquids can be dosed and transported very easily and therefore have advantages over solids in terms of Handling on. This makes the process particularly easy to implement. Possible liquid catalyst precursors include, for example, acetylacetonates, naphthenates and / or propionates of the metals M, where M = {iron (Fe), manganese (Mn), cobalt (Co), nickel (Ni), copper (Cu)}, dissolved in one Solvent into consideration. The liquid catalyst precursor is preferably combustible. A flammable solvent such as xylene or ethanol is therefore preferably used as the solvent. Alternatively, iron pentacarbonyl (Fe (CO) 5 ) can be used as a catalyst precursor, which is present as a liquid under standard conditions and is also flammable.
With regard to the simplified handling of the liquid catalyst precursor, a preferred development of the invention provides that in process step b) the supply of the catalyst precursor to the combustion reaction or the supply of the catalyst precursor to the supporting combustion reaction, enrichment of a carrier gas flow with vapor of the catalyst precursor or atomization of the catalyst precursor in a carrier gas flow includes.
In the first-mentioned variant, the liquid catalyst precursor is fed to the combustion reaction / auxiliary combustion reaction by enriching a carrier gas stream with the vapor of the catalyst precursor. For example, in a bubbler system, the carrier gas flow can be passed through the liquid, preferably temperature-controlled catalyst precursor, after which a mixture of introduced carrier gas and vaporized catalyst precursor leaves the bubbler system. An inert gas, for example argon and / or nitrogen, can be used as the carrier gas. Alternatively or additionally, hydrogen, air, a combustible gas and / or a gas mixture can also be used as the carrier gas.
In the second variant mentioned, the liquid catalyst precursor is fed to the combustion reaction / auxiliary combustion reaction in that the liquid catalyst precursor is atomized in the carrier gas stream. The smallest droplets of the liquid catalyst precursor are then in the carrier gas flow. An atomizer nozzle, for example, can be used for this purpose. An inert gas can also be used as the carrier gas, or alternatively or additionally air, a combustible gas and / or a gas mixture.
In this regard, a preferred development of the invention provides that the production of the catalyst in method step b) comprises a flame synthesis and / or a pyrolysis process. Flame synthesis is an established process in which gaseous or liquid starting substances (catalyst precursors) are converted into nanoparticles. Compared with wet synthesis of the nanoparticles, this type of production has the advantage that it is a continuous process with a significantly shorter process chain. For example, the solid-liquid separation, cleaning and drying of the nanoparticles produced are no longer necessary. Furthermore, the flame synthesis and / or the pyrolysis process is more environmentally friendly, since there is no waste water to be treated. In particular, the combustion reaction from which the flue gas flow originates can be used to produce the catalyst. Alternatively, the auxiliary combustion reaction is used to produce the catalyst. By atomizing the catalyst precursor, it is also possible to use catalyst precursors that are difficult to evaporate in the flame synthesis and / or in the pyrolysis process, since a combustible gas can be used as the carrier gas stream. Furthermore, the flame synthesis and / or the pyrolysis process lead to particularly pure nanoparticles, so that the catalyst produced has a particularly high activity.
In a preferred development of the invention, it is provided that process step e) comprises reducing the concentration of nitrogen oxides in the flue gas flow by means of a first SCR using the catalyst and the reducing agent in the flue gas flow at a temperature of the flue gas flow of T ≤ 200 ° C.
In this context, according to a preferred development of the invention, it is also provided that method step g) reduces the concentration of nitrogen oxides in the flue gas flow by a second SCR using the catalyst on the surface filter and using the reducing agent in the flue gas flow at a temperature of the flue gas flow of T ≤ 200 ° C.
The flue gas flow has a temperature of T 200 ° C. for the first and / or second SCR. This low temperature has the advantage that a lot of heat is available for thermal use when the waste heat from the combustion is used for energy upstream of the denitrification. The process is therefore very inexpensive and economical. Furthermore, this makes the process very flexible, since an efficient reduction in the nitrogen oxide concentration in the flue gas can also be carried out after dedusting, for example. The temperature reduction of the flue gas flow, which is necessary for the operation of the dedusting system, does not have to be compensated for by a corresponding reheating of the flue gas flow compared to conventional methods. The low temperature leads to a particularly flexible, economical and environmentally friendly process, as costs and energy for heating the flue gas flow are saved.

Furthermore, according to the invention, a device for performing the above method is provided, comprising a discharge pipe for passing a flue gas stream of a combustion reaction, a catalyst precursor feed system, and a catalyst production system, the catalyst production system comprising the combustion reaction or a supporting combustion reaction. The catalyst precursor supply system comprises, for example, a bubbler system in order to enrich a carrier gas stream with vapor of the catalyst precursor.
