Description
The invention relates to a method for producing plastic tools and plastic molded parts.
Plastics are one of the most important technical materials of our time. Plastic components can be easily manufactured in large numbers using conventional processes such as injection molding, extrusion or pressing. Plastic parts are usually designed using so-called plastic tools. In addition to faithfulness to detail and contours, stability, hardness and strength are essential and important requirements for these plastic tools.
Although the conventional processes for large-scale series production are technically and economically mature, any investment costs such as plastic tools are negligible due to the high number of items and are distributed among the individual components.
For small series and sample production, the conventional plastic manufacturing processes are unfavorable due to the high plastic tool costs and long production times, for example due to machining. For product development and design validation, for example, plastic-based samples made of thermoplastic or duroplastic are indispensable in order to check the feasibility and implementation, among other things. The availability of such design and functional samples has a decisive influence on the development process. The development process is therefore primarily influenced by the manufacturing time of the conventional plastic tool.
For the procurement of plastic samples and small series, the challenge is to reduce the production times for plastic tools and inserts on the one hand and to reduce the plastic tool costs on the other.
Small series and samples are usually produced today in sample production using conventional processes or prototype tools. As a rule, the prototype tools are made of aluminum. This can reduce the manufacturing time compared to conventional plastic tools made of steel, but the development process is clearly too long. Another disadvantage is the poor surface quality, which means that some fine contours and designs are not reproduced.
In addition to the conventional shaping processes, more and more additively manufactured patterns are being used. These allow the production of the samples in a single process step. Here, the patterns are built up additively using a 3D printer. This significantly reduces procurement times. A major disadvantage is that not all types of plastic, in particular reinforced thermosets, can be imaged or available using 3D printing. This means that the original materials or the desired material can rarely be processed using a 3D process.
Additive manufacturing enables parts such as inserts or entire plastic tools to be manufactured in a relatively short time. Rapid tooling is one pillar of additive manufacturing. Nowadays plastic tools and tool inserts are already made from metal as well as from plastic by means of selective laser welding or laser sintering. However, the poor surface quality requires extensive reworking to get usable parts and samples.
On the other hand, the poly-jet process, or other liquid material processes, has a better surface quality per se. For example, only photopolymers can be processed in the poly-jet process. As is known, such photopolymers have low thermal and mechanical stability and can only be used to a limited extent as plastic tools or tool inserts for plastic processing.
It is therefore an object of the invention to provide an alternative method for producing a plastic tool which overcomes the disadvantages described.
This object is achieved according to the invention by the method for producing a plastic tool according to claim 1.
