An electrode material for an electrical energy store, in particular for a lithium-containing energy store, is described with an electrode active material and a polymeric binder, the binder containing a cross-linker for crosslinking the polymeric strands of the polymeric binder with one another.
Description
The present invention relates to electrode material and a battery cell containing the same and their use according to the preamble of the independent claims.
Stand der TechnikState of the art
As electrode material, for example, for anodes of lithium-ion batteries is now mainly graphite used. This electrode material essentially comprises an electrode active material, on which the electrochemical processes of the electrode play, and additives for increasing the electrical conductivity of the electrode material. Furthermore, a binder is contained, which serves to fix particulate material constituents of the electrode within the electrode layer and to form a particularly homogeneous electrode surface. When graphite is used as the electrode active material, a relatively small volume change of the graphite in the range of 1 to 3% by weight occurs during charge / discharge cycles. In this case, a relatively small amount of a binder is sufficient to achieve sufficient strength of the electrode layer.
In order to further increase the energy density of lithium-ion batteries, the use of electrode active materials on the anode is usual, which are characterized by a higher specific capacity. These may be, for example, alloying elements such as silicon, tin, germanium or gallium. Silicon, for example, has a specific capacity of about ten times greater than 3579 mAh / g than that of graphite of 372 mAh / g. However, this has the consequence that silicon expands by up to 300 vol.% During charge / discharge cycles.
When polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) is used as the binder, for example, only relatively weak van der Waals interactions are present between the binder and the electrode active material. These are not sufficient, for example, to be able to compensate for larger volume expansions of up to 300%. If binder systems are used which form a chemical bond, for example with a surface of the electrode active material, the binding of the binder system to the particle surfaces of the electrode active material improves. For example, carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) or polyacrylic acid (PAA) is used as the binder. For example, when using silicon or silicon-containing materials as the electrode active material, there is an esterification of hydroxyl groups present on the silicon surface with free carboxylic acid groups of the binder.
However, if silicon fractions of> 15% by weight are used in the context of the electrode active material, relatively high binder contents of> 10% by weight are required in the electrode material. Since the binder material itself does not participate in the electrochemical processes of the electrode, a high binder content has a negative effect on both the electrical conductivity and thus also on the rate capability of the electrode material. In this case, the rate capability (or "rate capability") is understood to mean the quotient of capacity and (discharge) charge current.

Offenbarung der ErfindungDisclosure of the invention
According to the invention, an electrode material or a battery cell containing this is provided with the characterizing features of the independent patent claims.
Vorteile der ErfindungAdvantages of the invention
The particular advantage of the electrode material according to the invention is based on the fact that this comprises, in addition to an electrode active material, a polymeric binder which additionally contains at least one crosslinker which crosslinks the polymeric strands of the polymeric, in particular linear, binder, for example polyacrylic acid. In this way, the bonding strength of the polymeric binder is further improved and it can be dispensed with an increased amount of polymeric binder in the electrode material. In addition, there is an indirect crosslinking of the particles of the electrode active material with one another, whereby a further improvement in the electrode stability of an electrode containing the electrode material according to the invention is achieved. The term electrode active material is understood as meaning material components of the electrode material which are electrochemically converted during the discharge or charging process of the electrochemical energy store by the absorption or release of electrons or ions are formed or electrochemically reduced on their surface.
Weitere vorteilhafte Ausführungsformen sind Gegenstand der Unteransprüche.Further advantageous embodiments are the subject of the dependent claims.
Thus, it is advantageous if, for example, carboxylmethylcellulose, alginic acid, polyacrylic acid or polyvinyl alcohol is used as the polymeric binder, since these polymeric compounds have free functional groups, for example carboxylic acid groups or hydroxyl groups, which are available for a crosslinking reaction with a cross-linker. In principle, however, other polymeric binders which have free functional groups, such as, for example, carboxylic acid groups, hydroxyl groups, catechol groups, alkoxy groups, amine groups or halogen groups, are also suitable.
Dies sind beispielsweise Polyallylamin, Polyethylenimine, Polycatechol, Polyvinylether oder Polysilazane. These are, for example, polyallylamine, polyethyleneimines, polycatechol, polyvinyl ethers or polysilazanes.
According to a further advantageous embodiment of the present invention, the cross-linker is designed as a linear cross-linker. This is in particular a linear crosslinker of the formula XRY, where X and Y are the same or different functional groups, for example -COOH, -OH, -Si (OCH 3 ) 3 , -Si (OCH 2 CH 3 ) 3 , -Si-NH 2 , -Si-NH-Si-Me 2 R ', where Me stands for a methyl group and R' stands for an alkyl radical, or for -SiClZ'Z ", wherein Z 'and Z" independently of one another stands for Cl, H or Me, but in particular Z 'and Z "stand for Cl.
Furthermore, R is an alkyl radical, for example having a chain length of 1 to 20 carbon atoms and it may be, for example, partially or perflourated. In addition, R can be an aryl radical which has, in particular terminally or in the para position, the functional groups X and Y, respectively. Furthermore, R can be an ether compound, in particular a linear ether compound.
The advantage of the mentioned functional groups X and Y, respectively, is that they are chemically functionalized with functional groups on the surface of particles of the electrode active material, for example with hydroxyl groups, or with free functional groups of the polymeric binder, such as carboxyl or hydroxyl groups Bond can enter and thus can lead to cross-linking of polymeric strands of the polymeric binder with each other, but also of particles of the electrode active material with each other.
Moreover, it is advantageous if the cross-linker is a multifunctional crosslinker of the general formula R - (- X) n , where R is an alkyl radical which is, for example, partially or perfluorinated or an aryl radical. Furthermore, X is a functional group such as, for example, -COOH, -OH or -SiCl 3 . Furthermore, n indicates the number of functional groups, where n> 2. The particular advantage of using multifunctional crosslinkers is that the degree of crosslinking both within the polymeric binder and the polymeric binder with particles such as the electrode active material is further improved and thus a higher stability of an electrode containing the electrode material according to the invention is achieved.
Particularly advantageous is the use of 1,2-bis (trichlorosilyl) ethane, 1,6-bis (trichlorosilyl) hexane, 1,8-bis (trichlorosilyl) octane or of 1,8-bis (trichlorosilylethyl) hexadecafluoro-octane as a linear crosslinker ,
It is furthermore advantageous if phytic acid or a fullerene of the formula C 60 (OH) 24 is used as the multifunctional crosslinker.
According to a further advantageous embodiment, the electrode material additionally contains an additive for increasing the electrical conductivity of the electrode material. This can be, for example, a carbonaceous material such as carbon black, graphene, carbon nanotubes (CNTs) or carbon fibers and / or an electrically conductive polymer such as a polyaniline, poly-3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene, polypyrrole, polythiophene, poly (p -phenylene), poly (p-phenylene-vinylene), poly (1-pyrene-methyl methacrylate), or polyfluorene-based polymers, such as poly (9,9-dioctylfluoreno-co-fluorenone-co-methylbenzoic ester) (PFFOMB) or poly (2.7 to 9.9-dioctylfluorene-co-2,7-9,9- (di (oxy-2,5,8-trioxadecane)) fluorene-co-2,7-co-2-fluorenone, 5-1-methyl benzoate ester) (PFM).
The production of the electrode active material according to the invention advantageously takes place in such a way that initially a slip of starting materials of the electrode material is provided, wherein as starting components for example an electrode active material and starting compounds of the polymeric binder are provided. A starting compound of the polymeric binder can be understood as meaning both monomer solutions of the corresponding polymeric binder and the polymeric binder itself in dissolved form.
In addition, additives can be added to the slip to increase the electrical conductivity. After mixing the slip, a cross-linker is added in a second step. There is a further mixing of the Elektrodenmaterialschlickers monitoring the viscosity.
When a predefined target viscosity is reached, a shaping of the electrode material slip takes place in a fourth step, for example in the form of an electrode layer. This can, for example, by casting the electrode material slip on a suitable example, metallic substrate, bespw. made of copper or nickel. The metallic substrate can later serve as a current collector or arrester of the electrode produced in this way after installation in a corresponding battery cell.
The electrode material according to the invention can be used advantageously in battery cells. The battery cell includes a first and a second electrode, wherein between the first and second electrode, a separator is provided. At least one of the electrodes, in particular an anode, contains the electrode material according to the invention.
The electrode material according to the invention or a battery cell containing this can be used advantageously in lithium-ion batteries or in hybrid lithium-containing supercaps. These electrochemical energy storage in turn can be used in batteries for mobile purposes such as electric or hybrid vehicles and e-bikes or pedelecs, for energy storage for stationary storage, for example regenerative electrical energy or batteries for portable telecommunications equipment or data processing equipment and electrical hand tools and kitchen appliances.

This is based, on the one hand, on cross-linking of the polymeric chains of the polymeric binder with one another, and, for example, on the particles of the electrode active material among themselves. In addition, the electrode material may further contain additives for increasing the electrical conductivity of the electrode material. These may be, for example, carbon compounds such as carbon black, graphene, carbon nanotubes (CNTs) or carbon fibers and / or an electrically conductive polymer such as a polyaniline, poly-3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene, polypyrrole, polythiophene, poly (p-phenylene ), Poly (p-phenylene-vinylene), poly (1-pyrene-methyl methacrylate), or polyfluorene-based polymers, such as poly (9,9-dioctylfluorene-co-fluorenone-co-methylbenzoic ester) (PFFOMB) or poly ( 2.7 to 9.9-dioctylfluorene-co-2,7-9,9- (di (oxy-2,5,8-trioxadecane)) fluorene-co-2,7-fluorenone-co-2,5- 1-methyl benzoate ester) (PFM) or mixtures thereof.
Als Quervernetzer kommen beispielsweise bisfunktionale Verbindungen der Formel X - R - Y in Frage.Suitable cross-linkers include, for example, bis-functional compounds of the formula X-R-Y.
Here, X and Y are functional groups such as carboxyl, hydroxyl or Thrichlorsilan groups. R symbolizes an alkyl chain in the form of an optionally fluorinated or partially fluorinated alkyl radical, an aryl group in the form of an aryl radical or an ether group. As a bisfunctional linear crosslinker is, for example, 1,2-bis (trichlorosilylethane), 1,6-bis (trichlorosilyl) hexane, 1,8-bis (trichlorosilyl) octane or 1,8-bis (trichlorosilylethyl) hexadecafluorooktan.
Also suitable as crosslinking agents are polyfunctional or polyfunctional compounds of the formula R - (- X) n .
In the case of the use of linear bis-functional cross-linkers, in addition to crosslinking of polymeric chains of the polymeric binder with one another, in addition, particles, for example, of the electrode active material are additionally crosslinked with one another. Thus, for example, a cross-linker with Thrichlorsilyl groups is able to enter into a condensation reaction with silanol groups on the surface of silicon particles in the electrode active material and thus be connected by a chemical bond fixed to the particle surface. This leads to an additional stabilization of the electrode structure.
In the case of the use of multi- or polyfunctional cross-linkers, crosslinking of a plurality of polymeric chains of the polymeric binder with one another is achieved in particular.
The preparation of the electrode material according to the invention is carried out, for example, such that starting materials of the electrode material are initially provided in the form of a slip. The slurry contains, for example, a suitable electrode active material and starting materials of the polymeric binder. These starting substances may be, for example, a solution of corresponding monomers or the polymeric binder in dissolved form. After thorough mixing of the slip, a suitable cross-linking agent is added in a second step.
In a third step, further thorough mixing of the electrode material slip takes place while monitoring the viscosity thereof. If a corresponding target viscosity is reached, the encapsulation of the electrode material slurry takes place in a fourth step, for example, on a suitable substrate, which may be, for example, the current collector of an electrode. Optionally, in a fifth step, a heat treatment of the electrode thus produced, for example, to ensure appropriate linkage reactions of the crosslinker with the polymeric binder or the polymerization of the polymeric binder.
The battery cell according to the invention may be, for example, a lithium-containing or silicon-containing battery cell.
