Description
The invention relates to a method for measuring an air quality with at least one gas sensor and to an apparatus for carrying out the method.
Stand der TechnikState of the art
Air quality measurements can be made, for example, by metal oxide gas sensors. One possible approach to determining air quality is to detect volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the air. The higher the concentration of volatile organic compounds in the air, the worse the air quality. In particular, in closed rooms, volatile organic compounds can accumulate by expiration and lead to an increased concentration in the indoor air. In order to avoid harmful effects on humans, air quality must be monitored.
The gas sensors for monitoring the air quality usually consist of a doped metal oxide layer having a known electrical conductivity. Depending on the concentration of volatile organic compounds in an atmosphere adjacent to the metal oxide, the gas molecules may diffuse into the metal oxide layer and affect electrical conductivity. This effect and thus also a sensitivity of the metal oxide gas sensor are dependent on a temperature of the metal oxide layer. Such sensors must therefore be heated to temperatures of 200-400 ° C. This is realized by an integrated in the gas sensor electric heating element. Due to the necessary high operating temperatures, metal oxide gas sensors have a higher energy consumption. As a result, use of such gas sensors in battery-powered applications is problematic. The energy required to operate the gas sensor can be reduced by a pulsed mode. However, this does not ensure continuous monitoring of the air quality.
Offenbarung der ErfindungDisclosure of the invention
The object underlying the invention can be seen to provide a method for seamless monitoring of air quality with minimal energy consumption.
This object is achieved by means of the subject matter of the independent claims. Advantageous embodiments of the invention are the subject of each dependent subclaims.
According to one aspect of the invention, a method of measuring air quality with a gas sensor is provided. At least one physical variable of an air is determined and from this a change of the at least one physical quantity of the air is determined. Subsequently, based on the determined change in the at least one physical quantity, the gas sensor is placed in an operating mode.
Particularly in areas where humans are a major source of volatile organic compounds, for example by exhalation, a gas sensor can be used to measure or detect a concentration of volatile organic compounds. The corresponding air can be, for example, a room air of a room or a building. Above all in non-ventilated rooms, a rise in a concentration of volatile organic compounds or of carbon dioxide can take place relatively quickly. The gas sensor can be, for example, a metal oxide gas sensor with a gas-sensitive heatable metal oxide layer. On the basis of the electrical conductivity or the electrical resistance of the heated metal oxide layer conclusions can be drawn on a concentration of volatile organic compounds and thus on the air quality. Due to the high energy requirement of the heating of the gas sensor, the gas sensor remains inactive and is activated as needed or situation-dependent and used to measure an air quality. In particular, changes in air quality may be decisive. In order for as little energy as possible to be consumed by the gas sensor, at least one additional sensor monitors a state of the air. In this case, at least one physical size of the air is monitored. The at least one additional sensor may preferably be a passive sensor or an active sensor with a lower energy requirement. For example, in a room with people, an air temperature or humidity may change. Thus, indirect or direct physical properties of the air associated with the volatile organic compounds can be used as indicators to make a statement about an increase or decrease in a concentration of volatile organic compounds. Upon a change in a physical quantity of the air, such as temperature, the gas sensor may be activated or placed in an operating mode in which a precise measurement of the concentration of volatile organic compounds is possible. Consequently, it is assumed that the concentration of volatile organic compounds remains constant until physical changes in the air are detected. Thereafter, the gas sensor may be for a duration of a determined change, or beyond this duration, to correct for the concentration of volatile organic Connections are used. If a balance of at least one physical size of the air is detected, it can again be assumed that a constant concentration of volatile organic compounds, so that the gas sensor can be deactivated again. The measurements of the gas sensor can provide information about the air quality and be used, for example, to take action. For example, windows can be opened automatically or ventilation devices can be switched on. By activating the gas sensor as needed, an energy requirement can be minimized such that the gas sensor can determine or monitor the air quality over a longer period of time even in battery-operated applications.
In one embodiment of the method, the gas sensor clocked in an operating mode detects a concentration of volatile organic compounds. In one possible mode of operation, the gas sensor may perform measurements of concentration at a defined clock rate. In this case, the gas sensor can be heated to an operating temperature for a predetermined period of time before a measurement and then measure the concentration during an active phase before the measurement is interrupted and the heating is deactivated. As a result, an energy requirement of the gas sensor can also be reduced.
According to a further embodiment of the method, the gas sensor is placed in an operating mode with a specific change depending on the timing for detecting the concentration of volatile organic compounds. Depending on the operating mode, the gas sensor can perform isolated measurements with a low clock frequency, for example in a rest phase or in a deactivated state. If a change in a physical quantity of the air is registered, the clock frequency can then be increased for the duration of the change. In this case, the clock frequency can be slightly increased, for example, for small changes in physical quantities and increased more for larger changes. For larger changes in physical parameters of the air, the gas sensor for a defined period of time may also be activated continuously in order to determine as precisely as possible a course of the concentration of volatile organic compounds can. As a result, depending on the situation, a clock frequency of the gas sensor can be set. The gas sensor is thus dynamic and precise operable despite minimal energy consumption.
According to a further embodiment of the method, the gas sensor continuously detects the concentration of volatile organic compounds in an operating mode. This can be advantageous in particular in the case of strong fluctuations or unexpectedly strong changes in the physical quantities of the air, since complete monitoring of the air quality is possible during a continuous measurement. The continuous mode of operation may be limited in time or be deactivated again depending on at least one physical size of the air.
According to a further embodiment of the method, the gas sensor is deactivated in an operating mode. Preferably, the gas sensor can be deactivated when not in use. In particular, in phases in which no changes are registered or a balance of the physical quantities of the air can be determined by at least one additional sensor, it is possible to completely decouple the gas sensor from a power supply.
According to a further embodiment of the method, an air temperature and / or a humidity and / or air pressure is used as the physical size of the air. In particular, in closed rooms, for example, a room temperature or air temperature rise as soon as people are in the rooms. Furthermore, the respiration of people in rooms increases the relative humidity. Such changes in air indicate an increased or an increased level of exhaled moist and warm air. As the proportion of expired or spent air in a room increases, so does the concentration of volatile organic compounds. The physical quantities can be used as indicators or as a trigger for activating the gas sensor.
The device comprises at least one sensor for measuring a physical quantity of air and at least one gas sensor for clocked measuring a concentration of volatile organic compounds. A control unit is connected to the at least one sensor and to the at least one gas sensor. The control unit is used for controlling and controlling the at least one gas sensor and for evaluating the at least one sensor for measuring a physical quantity of the air. According to the invention, at least one change of at least one physical quantity of the air can be determined by the control unit and, depending on the determined change, a clocking of the gas sensor can be set
By the control unit, the at least one gas sensor can be activated depending on the situation or as needed. In particular, the gas sensor be activated at a detected change of at least one physical size of the air. Preferably, the gas sensor is operated clocked. The higher a clock frequency, the more accurately a concentration curve of volatile organic compounds can be measured. Finally, a more accurate air quality analysis can be made from the more accurate measurements. Due to a higher energy requirement of the gas sensor at higher clock frequencies can be minimized by a situation-dependent variation of the clock frequency of the energy consumption of the gas sensor. The device remains dynamic despite the minimized energy consumption and precise in relevant situations. Such a device can also be battery operated and stationary or mobile. The determination of a change in a physical quantity of the air can preferably take place with the aid of at least one limit value, so that slight fluctuations and measurement uncertainties of the sensors are not taken into account in the activation of the gas sensor.
According to one exemplary embodiment of the device, the at least one physical variable of the air is an air temperature and / or an air humidity and / or air pressure. By means of the humidity, the air pressure and an air temperature, a situation within a room or a building can be analyzed in advance and if necessary an investigation of the air quality by the at least one gas sensor can be initiated. As a result, it can be estimated in an energy-saving manner whether a measurement by a gas sensor is necessary.
According to a further exemplary embodiment of the device, the timing of the gas sensor can be increased by the control unit as a function of the change in the at least one physical variable of the air. With a large change in a physical quantity, such as an increase in temperature or humidity, it can be concluded that also a proportion of volatile organic compounds in the air rises rapidly. For a precise measurement of the concentration, the clock frequency of the gas sensor can be increased. It may be advantageous in some situations to increase the clock frequency such that the gas sensor continuously performs measurements of the concentration of volatile organic compounds for at least a defined period of time.
According to a further exemplary embodiment of the device, the timing of the gas sensor can be reduced by the control unit as a function of the change in the at least one physical variable of the air. In particular, after phases with a registered change of at least one physical size of the air, an equilibrium can be established, so that no change can be detected. It is therefore no longer necessary to continue to operate the gas sensor with an increased energy consumption. To minimize the power consumption, the clock frequency of the gas sensor can be reduced. The clock frequency can also be reduced to a complete deactivation of the gas sensor. A reduction of the clock frequency of the gas sensor can for example be done directly after setting a balance of the physical quantities or after a defined follow-up time.
