Stand der TechnikState of the art
Electrical energy can be stored by means of batteries. Batteries convert chemical reaction energy into electrical energy. Here, a distinction is made between primary batteries and secondary batteries. Primary batteries are only functional once, while secondary batteries, also referred to as accumulators, are rechargeable. In particular, so-called lithium-ion battery cells are used in an accumulator. These are characterized among other things by high energy densities, thermal stability and extremely low self-discharge.
Lithium-ion battery cells have a positive electrode, also referred to as a cathode, and a negative electrode, also referred to as an anode. The cathode and the anode each comprise a metallic current conductor, on which an active material is applied. The electrodes of the battery cell are formed like a foil and stacked, for example, to form an electrode stack with the interposition of a separator which separates the anode from the cathode. The electrodes can also be wound into an electrode winding or in some other way form an electrode unit. As solid-state cells running battery cells may also have lithium films.
The two electrodes of the electrode stack are electrically connected to poles of the battery cell, which are also referred to as terminals. For this purpose, from the current conductors of the electrodes from contact lugs. The contact lugs of the electrodes are each connected to a collector element, in particular welded, which is connected to one of the terminals of the battery cell. The collector elements are also part of the electrode stack.
When welding the relatively thin contact lugs of the electrodes, which have a thickness of a few microns, with the collector element, in particular by means of laser welding, individual tabs can be damaged, for example, by thermal expansions or surface tension effects of the melt so that the contact is insufficient or no longer available. In particular, individual contact lugs can tear off. This can lead to a reduced mechanical strength and to an increased electrical transition value of the electrode stack.

Offenbarung der ErfindungDisclosure of the invention
A method for producing an electrode stack for a battery cell is proposed. The method comprises at least the steps listed below.
First, a plurality of tabs of an electrode and at least one collector element are stacked in a stacking direction to form an auxiliary stack. In this case, contact lugs of an anode and at least one negative collector element are advantageously stacked in a stacking direction to form an auxiliary stack, and at the same time contact lugs of a cathode and at least one positive collector element are stacked in the same stacking direction to form another auxiliary stack.
The collector element has a significantly greater thickness than a contact lug, for example between 100 .mu.m and 2000 .mu.m, in particular between 150 .mu.m and 1000 .mu.m. The contact lugs of the electrode are stacked parallel to the collector element. The negative collector element is made of copper, for example. The positive collector element is made of aluminum, for example. It is also conceivable that both collector elements are made of copper, and that both collector elements are made of aluminum.
Subsequently, a laser beam is guided in such a way along an end face of the auxiliary stack, that a welding of the contact lugs of the electrode and the collector element takes place at an edge region of the end face of the auxiliary stack. The stacking direction runs at least approximately parallel to the end face of the auxiliary stack.
The laser beam is thus not directed directly to a contact lug or a collector element of the auxiliary stack. Rather, the laser beam is guided approximately tangentially along the end face of the auxiliary stack. In this case, only end portions of the contact lugs and of the collector element project into the laser beam.
According to an advantageous embodiment of the invention, the laser beam extends parallel to the stacking direction of the auxiliary stack. Thus, the laser beam extends at right angles to a surface of the collector element and perpendicular to surfaces of the contact lugs of the electrode.
Preferably, the laser beam is guided along the end face of the auxiliary stack in a transverse direction. The transverse direction runs at least approximately parallel to the end face of the auxiliary stack and at right angles to the stacking direction of the auxiliary stack.
The contact lugs of the electrode have a material width in the said transverse direction. The collector element may have the same material width. However, the collector element can also have a different material width. According to an advantageous embodiment of the invention, the laser beam is guided over the entire width of the material along the end face of the auxiliary stack.
According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the laser beam is guided such that the edge region has a convex bulge in a longitudinal direction. The longitudinal direction is perpendicular to the transverse direction and to the stacking direction of the auxiliary stack. Also, the longitudinal direction extends at least approximately at right angles to the end face of the auxiliary stack.
According to an advantageous embodiment of the invention, the auxiliary stack for welding the contact lugs of the electrode and the collector element is arranged such that the end face of the auxiliary stack is directed vertically upwards. The vertical direction runs in the direction of the gravitational force vertical to the earth's surface. In the arrangement described here, the end face of the auxiliary stack is directed upward and thus faces away from the earth's surface. In the arrangement described here, the longitudinal direction is parallel to the vertical direction. By such an arrangement of the auxiliary stack gravitational effects can be minimized.
Preferably, the laser beam is rotationally symmetric to a central axis which is parallel to the stacking direction. But other forms of the laser beam are conceivable.
Preferably, the laser beam is mirror-symmetrical to a plane of symmetry which is perpendicular to the stacking direction. But other forms of the laser beam are conceivable.
It is also proposed a battery cell comprising at least one electrode stack, which is produced by the process according to the invention.
A battery cell according to the invention advantageously finds use in an electric vehicle (EV), in a hybrid vehicle (HEV), in a plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV) or in a consumer electronics product. Consumer electronics products are in particular mobile phones, tablet PCs or notebooks.
Vorteile der ErfindungAdvantages of the invention
The inventive method allows a connection of tabs of electrodes with a collector element, wherein a tearing of individual tabs is largely avoided. The contacting melt, which produces the electrical and mechanical connection of the contact lugs with each other, can solidify freely. There is a continuous contact, since all joining partners are applied thermally over the entire cross-section of the compound. The result is only a very thin melt layer, typically in the thickness of the contact lugs up to 50 times the thickness of the contact lugs, in particular in the range between 10 and 200 microns. Also, there is only a very small input of thermal energy into the electrode stack due to the small melting zone that is in contact with the electrode stack. A manufactured according to the inventive electrode stack has a relatively small space and thus a relatively high energy density.
Dabei wird einThe contact lugs melt relatively quickly in contact with the laser beam. This is a
