Abstract
The invention relates to a method for fault detection in an SCR system of an internal combustion engine in a motor vehicle, which has two SCR catalysts and at least two ammonia sensors, wherein a first ammonia sensor between and a second ammonia sensor downstream of the two SCR catalysts is arranged. The method comprises the following steps: A continuous detection of a signal (y) on the first ammonia sensor is carried out and an ammonia mass (NHz) is determined on the first ammonia sensor. An overdosage (203) is subsequently carried out by increasing a metered reducing agent mass (m), with a reacted ammonia mass of the first SCR catalyst being above an ammonia mass necessary for the reduction of nitrogen oxide until an ammonia level at the first SCR Catalyst is above a maximum ammonia level of the first SCR catalyst. This is followed by a first check as to whether ammonia slip is present at the first SCR catalytic converter, depending on the signal of the first ammonia sensor and a first fault detection of at least the second SCR catalytic converter by an evaluation criterion if ammonia slip is present on the first SCR catalytic converter.

Stand der TechnikState of the art
A currently widely used technology for the reduction of nitrogen oxides (NOx) in the exhaust gas of internal combustion engines in motor vehicles is the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR). In SCR systems, a urea-water solution, also known commercially as AdBlue®, is known as a reducing agent solution , injected through a dosing into the exhaust line, upstream of at least one SCR catalyst. The ammonia produced from the urea-water solution reacts with the nitrogen oxides to form elementary nitrogen at the SCR catalysts in the selective catalytic reduction.
The introduction of stricter emission regulations will use several SCR catalysts that act on the same exhaust gas. In the case of insufficient efficiency of the SCR catalysts to reduce nitrogen oxide emission in the exhaust system, an error detection with an on-board test procedure (usually implemented in an electronic control unit) is prescribed. For this reason, continuous monitoring is performed during normal operation of the vehicle.
In an already known monitoring strategy, the ammonia storage capacity of the SCR catalysts is determined, which is used as a feature for a malfunction of the SCR catalyst, for example due to aging or damage. Here, the SCR catalyst is first filled by superstoichiometric metering of the reducing agent solution - so-called overdose - up to a maximum ammonia level. When the maximum ammonia level is reached, the ammonia can no longer be stored by the SCR catalyst and ammonia slip occurs, with pure ammonia exiting downstream of the SCR catalyst. Nitric oxide sensors have a cross-sensitivity to ammonia, so that the ammonia slip can be determined indirectly and serves as a defined starting point. Subsequently, the dosage of the reducing agent solution is reduced to a low level or switched off, so that the stored ammonia is reduced by the selective catalytic reduction. Now, for example, the efficiency of the SCR catalyst can be determined in order to conclude on its storage capacity. In principle, this method can be applied to two SCR catalysts, but the dosage of the reducing agent solution is very strongly damped by the upstream SCR catalyst.

Offenbarung der ErfindungDisclosure of the invention
The method relates to an SCR system of an internal combustion engine in a motor vehicle. Here, the SCR system has two successive arranged SCR catalysts in a common exhaust system. The exhaust gas first passes through a first SCR catalyst and is then forwarded to a second SCR catalyst so that both SCR catalysts act on the exhaust gas. Furthermore, the SCR system has at least two ammonia sensors, which are likewise arranged in this exhaust gas line. A first ammonia sensor is arranged between the two SCR catalysts and can there measure an ammonia mass after the exhaust gas aftertreatment by the first SCR catalyst. A second ammonia sensor is located downstream of the two SCR catalysts and can there an ammonia mass after the Measure exhaust aftertreatment through both SCR catalysts. The ammonia concentration corresponds to ammonia slip that occurs when an ammonia level exceeds a maximum ammonia level for the particular SCR catalyst. The said components may be connected to a common electronic control unit which controls them. In this method, a signal of the first ammonia sensor is continuously detected and the ammonia mass is determined on the first ammonia sensor.
In an active diagnosis, a metered reducing agent mass is increased, in other words, an overdose is performed. The ammonia mass of the first SCR catalytic converter converted from the metered reducing agent mass is above an ammonia mass necessary for the reduction at the first SCR catalytic converter. Therefore, a larger mass of ammonia is provided to the first SCR catalyst than is consumed by the SCR. As a result, the ammonia level on the first SCR catalyst increases. If a maximum ammonia level is exceeded, ammonia passes unused to the first SCR catalytic converter and ammonia slip occurs on the first SCR catalytic converter. Its occurrence is determined in a first check whether ammonia slip is present, depending on the signal of the first ammonia sensor. In particular, the ammonia slip is detected when the ammonia mass at the first ammonia sensor exceeds a second threshold. Finally, when ammonia slip has been determined on the first SCR catalytic converter, a first fault detection of the second SCR catalytic converter takes place by means of an evaluation criterion explained below.
Wird während der passiven Diagnose bei der zweiten Fehlererkennung ein Fehler ausgegeben, wird die Überdosierung freigegeben und das aktive Verfahren läuft ab.Optionally, after the signal from the first ammonia sensor is continuously detected and the ammonia mass at the first ammonia sensor has been determined, before the overdose, a passive diagnosis for a regular dose, i. for a dosage whose parameters have not been changed by this procedure. In the case of passive diagnosis, a second check as to whether ammonia slip is present is likewise determined, depending on the signal of the first ammonia sensor. Finally, when ammonia slip has been determined on the first SCR catalytic converter, a second fault detection of the second SCR catalytic converter is carried out by an evaluation criterion explained below. If an error is output during passive diagnostics during the second error detection, the overdosage is released and the active procedure is aborted.
If, on the other hand, no errors are output during the passive diagnosis during the second error detection, the overdosage and the subsequent steps of the active diagnosis described at the outset are inhibited. Preferably, in this case, a ghost counter can be started. The ghost counter simulates the feasibility of the active diagnosis and determines the point in time at which the active diagnosis would have detected an error. If the active diagnosis has expired in the current drive cycle, an IUMPR (In-Use Performance Ratio) is increased. On the other hand, if at least one of the operating parameters of the internal combustion engine speaks, the ghost counter is stopped and / or reset. The operating parameters considered in this context include a temperature level and a temperature gradient of the second SCR catalyst, a mass flow of the reducing agent solution through the second SCR catalyst and on and off conditions. The ghost counter therefore indicates the probability with which a fault can be detected by comparing driving cycles with diagnoses carried out in relation to all driving cycles. As a result, relevant statutory provisions are observed. In particular, defined thresholds for the IUMPR must not be exceeded.
As a possible evaluation criterion it can be provided that a difference between the ammonia mass at the first ammonia sensor and the ammonia mass at the second ammonia sensor is determined. This difference is then integrated over a period of time. If the integrated difference at a decision time is below a fifth threshold, an error is detected on the second SCR catalytic converter, since not enough ammonia can be stored by the second SCR catalytic converter. Otherwise, no error is detected on the second SCR catalyst. Optionally, the integral of the difference can be normalized to a predefinable temperature-dependent maximum value.
Alternatively, instead of the difference itself, the amount of the difference may be used for the evaluation. The error detection takes place as shown above. In particular, in the event that the ammonia level of the second SCR catalyst is very close to or even reached the maximum ammonia level for this SCR catalyst, the evaluation of the amount of the difference is advantageous. In this case, the smallest temperature changes in the second SCR catalyst ensure that ammonia can be released alternately and subsequently stored again. The differences determined in each case have changing signs, which allow a reliable evaluation by the formation of the amount.
As a further possible evaluation criterion it can be provided that a correlation coefficient is determined from the signal of the first ammonia sensor and a signal of the second ammonia sensor. Is the correlation coefficient above a sixth threshold, a fault is detected on the second SCR catalyst because the two signals are too similar to one another for sufficiently high levels of ammonia to have been stored. Otherwise, no error is detected on the second SCR catalyst. Again, the above-described phenomenon that alternately ammonia can be released and subsequently stored again, can be evaluated. The signal of the first ammonia sensor and the signal of the second ammonia sensor then differ from each other, so that the correlation coefficient decreases.
Both evaluation criteria, taken separately, result in a suitable error detection for the second SCR catalytic converter.
Detection of ammonia slip may preferably be inhibited if it is determined during a check that a temperature gradient falls below a first threshold. When the temperature drops, new storage locations in the SCR catalysts are released, so that ammonia slip is less likely to occur, thereby distorting fault detection. Alternatively, this dependence can also be taken into account in the detection of the ammonia slip, for example by adjusting the second threshold.
Advantageously, the fault detection is performed only when the integrated ammonia mass at the first ammonia sensor is above a third threshold. This can ensure that the ammonia mass that is available to the second SCR catalyst for the reduction is sufficiently large to make reliable statements.
If ammonia slip is present on the first SCR catalyst and the integrated ammonia mass on the first ammonia sensor is above the third threshold, further determination of ammonia slip may be adjusted via the signal of the first ammonia sensor.
Preferably, in the active diagnosis, the overdose may be terminated when an ammonia mass at the second ammonia sensor is above a fourth threshold. Instead of comparing the ammonia mass at the second ammonia sensor directly to the fourth threshold, it may also be provided to integrate the ammonia mass and then to compare the integrated ammonia mass on the second nitrogen oxide sensor with a matched fourth threshold. Furthermore, instead of this, an ammonia concentration of the exhaust gas at the second ammonia sensor can be compared with a newly adapted fourth threshold. The resulting ammonia slip is sufficient for a safe evaluation. It is now sufficient to meter in the reducing agent mass necessary for the reduction of the nitrogen oxide in order to avoid excessive consumption of the reducing agent.
It can also be provided that the overdose does not take place continuously in the active diagnosis, but rather in pulses. In comparison to a continuous dosing, a smaller ammonia mass is available for further evaluation in the pulsed dosing after the end of the overdosing. As a result, the excitation of the SCR system is lower, so that a resulting emission is lower.
