Description
The invention relates to a bullet-resistant protective device, in particular for the protection of persons or objects.
Moreover, it is known to armor vehicles such as automobiles or helicopters with steel panels to protect the driver or tanks and the tanks of the vehicles from penetrating bullets. Such steel plates have a high weight. Lighter bulletproof guards are therefore desired.
Object of the present invention is to provide a weight-optimized and adaptable to an application, bulletproof protection device that provides both protection against normal ammunition and protection against bullets with steel or ceramic penetrators.
This object is achieved with a two-shell bullet-resistant protective device with the features of claim 1. Advantageous embodiments describe the subclaims.
The two-shell bullet-resistant protective device consists on the one hand as an inner shell of the basic protection element, which is a composite element and consists of several textile layers of solid high modulus fibers, wherein the individual textile layers are connected to each other by means of a polymeric binder. On the other hand, the bullet-resistant protective device as outer shell comprises an additional element which offers good protection against bullets with steel and ceramic penetrators. This additional element consists of a flexible textile support, for example a woven fabric, a knitted fabric, a scrim or a consolidated or needled nonwoven. The additional element consists of high modulus fibers, such as para-aramid fibers or ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene fibers (UHMW-PE). On this textile support several ceramic tiles are attached by means of an adhesive. These ceramic tiles are arranged adjacent to each other on the flexible carrier. The shape and size of the ceramic tiles depends on the application, i. to which form the protective device has to be adapted. Thus, additional elements with square ceramic tiles, which are arranged and glued together lying in rows on the textile support, either in the direction of the longitudinal edges or in the direction of the transverse edges of the ceramic tiles are bent and so for example wrapped around a curvature of a vehicle. If the ceramic tiles have a hexagonal shape and are provided lying on the textile support so that only grooves remain between the adjacent ceramic tiles, an even better formability of the additional element is provided.
The additional element forms in the bullet-resistant protective device, the outer shell and provides protection against projectiles with steel or ceramic core, ie before balancing bullets whose metal sleeve deforms on the tile and releases the penetrator, which is fragmented on the hard ceramic material of the ceramic tiles. Although the ceramic tiles are destroyed and the fragments of the projectile penetrate into the base protection element, wherein the pulse can also spread in an insulating layer between the two shells. The bullet fragments can be caught in the base protection element. The fragments and fractions of the destroyed ceramic tile remain adhered to the textile support of the additional element due to the adhesive bond. Such a destroyed ceramic tile can then be removed and a new ceramic tile in the same place glued on without having to remove the entire protective device. The new bullet-resistant protective device can therefore be repaired and offers the possibility that protective devices which have already been hit can be used several times by replacing the destroyed tile. This has significant advantages, especially in the case of a vehicle in use.
The ceramic tiles are preferably made of at least 99% alumina. Lighter tiles are made of black ceramic, i. made of boron carbide or silicon carbide. The particular advantage of using individual tiles for the additional element makes this additional element drapable and thus adaptable to an intended shape of a vehicle or for producing a protective vest on the body shape of a person.
The basic protection element forms the inner shell and is constructed from a composite element of a plurality of textile layers of solid high-modulus fibers, wherein the individual textile layers are connected to each other by means of a polymeric binder. For this binder of the basic protective element thermoplastic polymers with good ballistic internal insulation and a bonding agent are used. Such a basic protective element is achieved by using a binder, for example in the form of powder particles of reactive polyurethane or of amorphous highly adhesive polyolefin, and spreading the binder powder particle layer onto the textile layers and compressing the coated textile layers as a stack. In this way, a plate-shaped base protection element is achieved, which is still deformable by the existing thermoplastic binder layers between the textile layers.
In an advantageous embodiment, a thermoplastic polymer with a bonding agent is also used as an adhesive for the additional element, namely for connecting the ceramic tiles to the flexible support. The binder for the base protective element and the adhesive for the additional element may consist of the same thermoplastic polymers and the same adhesion promoter, wherein a modified maleic anhydride (MSA) or a modified polyvinyl butyrate (PVB) is preferably used as an adhesion promoter, which has a high adhesion to ceramic , Due to the use of the same binder, as well as the adhesive, a reshaping of the bivalve protective device is facilitated.
