Description
The invention relates to organic electroluminescent devices, such as Organic Light Emitting Devices (OLEDs). In particular, the invention relates to organic electroluminescent devices which contain at least one host compound and at least one emitter compound which emits a delayed fluorescence.
Einleitungintroduction
B. organische lichtemittierende Vorrichtungen (OLEDs), lichtemittierende elektrochemische Zellen (Light Emitting Electrochemical Cells - LECs) und lichtemittierende Transistoren, gewinnen zunehmend an wirtschaftlicher Bedeutung. Organic electroluminescent devices containing one or more organic-based light-emitting layers, such as e.g. Organic Light Emitting Devices (OLEDs), Light Emitting Electrochemical Cells (LECs), and Light Emitting Transistors are becoming increasingly important in economic terms. In particular, OLEDs are promising devices for electronic products such as screens, displays and lighting devices. In contrast to most electroluminescent devices based essentially on inorganic compounds, organic electroluminescent devices based on organic compounds are often very flexible and can be produced in thin layers. The OLED-based screens and displays display brilliant colors, contrasts and are very efficient in terms of energy consumption.
A central element of an organic electroluminescent device for generating light is a light-emitting layer disposed between an anode and a cathode. When a voltage is applied to an organic electroluminescent device, holes and electrons are injected from the anode and the cathode, respectively, into the light-emitting layer. High energy excitons are then generated by recombination of holes and electrons. The decay of such excited states (eg, singlet states such as S 1 and / or triplet states such as T 1 ) into the ground state (S 0 ) leads to the emission of light. In order to enable both efficient energy transport and efficient light emission, an organic electroluminescent device comprises an emission layer comprising one or more host compounds and one or more emitter compounds as dopants.
In order to improve the level of illumination achieved in one device per electrical energy introduced, host compounds can be used which can transfer energy to the emitter junctions. In the ideal case of such host-emitter systems, the vast majority of the excitons are transferred via energy and / or charge transfer from the host compounds to the excited singlet S 1 or triplet T 1 energy levels of the emitter compounds. Particularly suitable for use in high-efficiency OLEDs are emitter compounds that emit Thermally Activated Delayed Fluorescence (TADF), since both triplet and singlet excitons generated by recombination of holes and electrons can be used. In contrast to phosphorescent OLEDs, where up to 75% of the excitons can be used for light emission, and fluorescent OLEDs, where up to 25% of the excitons can be used for light emission, OLEDs with TADF emitters can use 100 % of excitons are used for light emission.
Host connections can also help to separate emitter connections spatially and thereby prevent (self-) deletion. In addition, host compounds may help to improve the morphology and / or thermal stability of the emitter layer. A variety of host compounds are known in the art. However, many of the known host components carry reactive functional groups that affect the utility, shelf life, and lifetime of the host compounds. For example, many hosts are particularly susceptible to oxidation. Due to the required higher energy levels, the emission of sky blue and deep blue light is particularly demanding with respect to the stability of both the host compounds and the emitter compounds and compositions thereof. Furthermore, many of the host compounds known in the art require fairly complicated synthetic steps and are therefore quite expensive. Further, it is desirable to obtain host compounds capable of providing charge carrier mobility that allows for a particularly low drive voltage and / or high brightness.
In view of the prior art, there is still a need to provide host compounds, emitter compounds, and compositions thereof that are readily available, chemically and thermally stable, and thus allow for a long life of the device. It is further desired that host compounds have high triplet energy levels that result in low triplet quenching and can efficiently transmit shorter wavelength energy (deep blue, sky blue or green) to the emitter junctions. In particular, the energy levels of the excited states and the orbitals of Emitter connections and host connections of an emission layer agree with each other to enable efficient energy transfer.

Vorzugsweise kann Energie von der Wirtsverbindung H auf die mindestens eine Emitterverbindung E übertragen werden, insbesondere von dem ersten angeregten Triplettzustand T1(H) der Wirtsverbindung H auf den ersten angeregten Triplettzustand T1(E) der Emitterverbindung E und/oder von dem ersten angeregten Singulettzustand S1(H) der Wirtsverbindung H auf den ersten angeregten Singulettzustand S1(E) der Emitterverbindung E.Preferably, energy may be transferred from the host compound H to the at least one emitter compound E, in particular from the first excited triplet state T 1 (H) of the host compound H to the first excited triplet state T 1 (E) of the emitter compound E and / or from the first excited one Singlet state S 1 (H) of the host compound H on the first excited singlet state S 1 (E) of the emitter compound E.
Preferably, the light-emitting layer B has, in addition to light emission, additional functionality selected from the group consisting of electron transport layer function, hole blocking layer, hole transport layer and electron blocking layer and exciton blocking layer.
The energies of the orbitals and the excited states can either be determined by experimental methods or calculated by means of quantum chemical methods, in particular density functional theory calculations. The energy of the highest occupied molecular orbital E HOMO is determined from cyclic voltammetry measurements with an accuracy of 0.1 eV according to methods known to those skilled in the art. The energy of the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital E LUMO is calculated as E HOMO + E gap , where E gap is determined as follows: For host compounds, the beginning of the emission of a film with 10% host in PMMA as E gap used unless otherwise stated. For emitter junctions, E gap is determined as the energy at which the excitation and emission spectra of a 10% emitter film intersect in PMMA.
The energy of the first excited triplet state T 1 is determined from the beginning of the low temperature emission, typically at 77K. For host compounds where the first excited singlet state and the lowest triplet state are energetically separated by> 0.4 eV, the phosphorescence is normally visible in steady-state spectra in 2-Me-THF. The triplet energy can thus be determined as the beginning of the phosphorescence spectra. For TADF emitter junctions, the energy of the first excited triplet state T 1 is determined from the beginning of the delayed emission spectrum at 77 K, unless otherwise indicated, measured in a poly (methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) film with 10 wt% emitter. For both host and emitter compounds, the energy of the first excited singlet state S 1 is determined from the beginning of the emission spectrum, unless otherwise stated, measured in a 10 wt.% Host poly (methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) film emitter connection.

As used throughout the present application, the terms "aryl" and "aromatic" in the broadest sense can be understood as any mono-, bi- or polycyclic aromatic moieties. Optionally, unless otherwise specified, an aryl may also be substituted by one or more substituents which are further exemplified throughout the present application. Accordingly, an aryl group contains 6 to 60 aromatic ring atoms, and a heteroaryl group contains 5 to 60 aromatic ring atoms, at least one of which is a heteroatom. In particular, the heteroaromatic ring contains one to three heteroatoms. Again, the terms "heteroaryl" and "heteroaromatic" in the broadest sense can be understood as any mono-, bi- or polycyclic heteroaromatic groupings containing at least one heteroatom. The heteroatoms may be the same or different at each occurrence and may be selected individually from the group consisting of N, O and S. The term "arylene" refers to a divalent radical which carries two binding sites to other molecular structures and thereby serves as a linker structure. In the case that a group in the embodiments is defined differently than in the definitions given here, for example, the number of aromatic ring atoms or the number of heteroatoms differs from the specified definition, the definition is to be used in the exemplary embodiments. According to the invention, a fused (fused) aromatic or heteroaromatic polycycle consists of two or more aromatic or heteroaromatic single cycles which form the polycycle via a condensation reaction.

Where the OLED with an inverted layer structure only optionally includes each layer, different layers can be merged and the OLED can comprise more than one layer of each layer type defined above.
In one embodiment of the invention, the organic electroluminescent device is an OLED that may have a stacked construction. In this structure, unlike the typical arrangement in which the OLEDs are juxtaposed, the individual units are stacked one above the other. Mixed light can be generated with OLEDs having a stacked construction, in particular, white light can be generated by stacking blue, green and red OLEDs. Further, the OLED having a stacked structure may optionally comprise a charge generation layer (CGL), which is typically located between two OLED subunits and typically consists of an n-doped and p-doped layer, where the n doped layer of a CGL is typically located closer to the anode layer.
In one embodiment of the invention, the organic electroluminescent device is an OLED comprising two or more emission layers including the emission layer B between the anode and the cathode. In particular, this so-called tandem OLED comprises three emission layers, wherein an emission layer emits red light, an emission layer emits green light, and an emission layer emits blue light, and may optionally include further layers such as charge generation layers, blocking or transport layers between the individual emission layers. In another embodiment, the emission layers are stacked adjacent. In a further embodiment, the tandem OLED comprises a charge generation layer between every two emission layers. In addition, adjacent emission layers or emission layers separated by a charge generation layer may be merged.
The substrate may be formed of any material or composition of materials. Glass slides are most commonly used as substrates. Alternatively, thin metal layers (eg, copper, gold, silver, or aluminum films) or plastic films or slides may be used. This can allow for a higher degree of flexibility. The anode layer A consists mainly of materials that make it possible to obtain a (substantially) transparent film. Since at least one of the two electrodes should be (substantially) transparent to allow light emission from the OLED, either the anode layer A or the cathode layer C is transparent.
Preferably, the anode layer A comprises or even comprises a large proportion of transparent conductive oxides (TCOs). Such an anode layer A can be, for example, indium tin oxide, aluminum zinc oxide, fluorine-doped tin oxide, indium zinc oxide, PbO, SnO, zirconium oxide, molybdenum oxide, vanadium oxide, tungsten oxide, graphite, doped Si, doped Ge, doped GaAs, doped polyaniline, doped polypyrrole and / or doped polythiophene include.
Besonders bevorzugt besteht die Anodenschicht A (im Wesentlichen) aus Indiumzinnoxid (Indium Tin Oxide - ITO) (z. B. (InO3)0,9(SnO2)0,1). Particularly preferably, the anode layer A consists (essentially) of indium tin oxide (ITO) (eg (InO 3 ) 0.9 (SnO 2 ) 0.1 ). The roughness of the anode layer A caused by the transparent conductive oxides (TCOs) can be compensated by using a Hole Injection Layer (HIL). Further, HIL can facilitate the injection of quasi-carriers (ie, holes) by facilitating the transport of quasi-carriers from the TCO to the hole transport layer (HTL). The hole injection layer (HIL) may comprise poly-3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene (PEDOT), polystyrene sulfonate (PSS), MoO 2 , V 2 O 5 , CuPC or CuI, especially a mixture of PEDOT and PSS. The hole injection layer (HIL) can also prevent the diffusion of metals from the anode layer A into the hole transport layer (HTL). The HIL can be, for example, PEDOT: PSS (poly-3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene: polystyrene sulfonate), PEDOT (poly-3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene), mMTDATA (4,4 ', 4''- tris [phenyl (m-tolyl) amino triphenylamine), spiro-TAD (2,2 ', 7,7'-tetrakis (n, n-diphenylamino) -9,9'-spirobifluorene), DNTPD (N1, N1' - (biphenyl-4,4'- diyl) bis (N1-phenyl-N4, N4-di-m-tolylbenzene-1,4-diamine), NPB (N, N'-nis (1-naphthalenyl) -N, N'-bisphenyl- (1, 1'-biphenyl) -4,4'-diamine), NPNPB (N, N'-diphenyl-N, N'-di- [4- (N, N-diphenylamino) phenyl] benzidine), MeO-TPD (N , N, N ', N'-tetrakis (4-methoxyphenyl) benzidine), HAT-CN (1,4,5,8,9,11-hexaazatriphenylene hexacarbonitrile) and / or spiro-NPD (N, N'-diphenyl) N, N'-bis (1-naphthyl) -9,9'-spirobifluorene-2,7-diamine).
Adjacent to the anode layer A or the hole injection layer (HIL) there is typically a hole transport layer (HTL). Any hole transport connection can be used here. For example, electron-rich heteroaromatic compounds such as triarylamines and / or carbazoles can be used as a hole transport compound. The HTL can reduce the energy barrier between the anode layer A and the light-emitting layer B (serving as an emission layer (EML)). The hole transport layer (HTL) may also be an electron blocking layer (EBL). Preferably, hole transport compounds carry comparatively high energy levels of their triplet states T1. By way of example, the hole transport layer (HTL) may comprise a star-shaped heterocycle, such as tris (4-carbazoyl-9-ylphenyl) amine (TCTA), poly-TPD (poly (4-butylphenyldiphenylamine)), [alpha] -NPD (poly (4-) butylphenyldiphenylamine), TAPC (4,4'-cyclohexylidene bis [N, N-bis (4-methylphenyl) benzenamine]), 2-TNATA (4,4 ', 4' '- tris [2-naphthyl (phenyl) amino] triphenylamine), spiro-TAD, DNTPD, NPB, NPNPB, MeO-TPD, HAT-CN, and / or TrisPcz (9,9'-diphenyl-6- (9-phenyl-9H-carbazol-3-yl) -9H, 9'H-3,3'-bicarbazole). In addition, the HTL may comprise a p-type doped layer which may consist of an inorganic or organic dopant in an organic hole transport matrix. As the inorganic dopant, for example, transition metal oxides such as vanadium oxide, molybdenum oxide or tungsten oxide can be used. As the organic dopant, for example, tetrafluorotetracyanoquinodimethane (F4-TCNQ), copper pentafluorobenzoate (Cu (I) pFBz) or transition metal complexes can be used.
Die EBL kann beispielsweise mCP (1,3-Bis(carbazol-9-yl)benzol), TCTA, 2-TNATA, mCBP (3,3-Di(9H-carbazol-9-yl)biphenyl), TrisPcz, CzSi (9-(4-tert-Butylphenyl)-3,6-bis(triphenylsilyl)-9H-carbazol), T2T (2,4,6-Tris(biphenyl-3-yl)-1,3,5-triazin), T3T (2,4,6-Tris(triphenyl-3-yl)-1,3,5-triazin), TST (2,4,6-Tris(9,9'-spirobifluoren-2-yl)-1,3,5-triazin) und/oder DCB (N,N'-Dicarbazolyl-1,4-dimethylbenzol) umfassen.The EBL can be exemplified by mCP (1,3-bis (carbazol-9-yl) benzene), TCTA, 2-TNATA, mCBP (3,3-di (9H-carbazol-9-yl) biphenyl), TrisPcz, CzSi ( 9- (4-tert-butylphenyl) -3,6-bis (triphenylsilyl) -9H-carbazole), T2T (2,4,6- Tris (biphenyl-3-yl) -1,3,5-triazine), T3T (2,4,6-tris (triphenyl-3-yl) -1,3,5-triazine), TST (2,4, 6-tris (9,9'-spirobifluoren-2-yl) -1,3,5-triazine) and / or DCB (N, N'-dicarbazolyl-1,4-dimethylbenzene).
Adjacent to the hole transport layer (HTL) is typically the light-emitting layer B. This is specified in detail in the context of the present invention.
Adjacent to the light-emitting layer B may be an electron transport layer (ETL). Here, any electron transporter can be used. For example, compounds that are electron-deficient, such as. An electron transporter may also be a star-shaped heterocycle such as 1,3,5-tri (1-phenyl-1H-benzo [d] imidazol-2-yl) phenyl (TPBi). The ETL can be NBphen (2,9-bis (naphthalen-2-yl) -4,7-diphenyl-1,10-phenanthroline), Alq3 (aluminum tris (8-hydroxyquinoline)), TSPO1 (diphenyl-4-triphenylsilylphenylphosphine oxide), BPyTP2 (2,7-di (2,2'-bipyridin-5-yl) triphenyls), Sif87 (dibenzo [b, d] thiophen-2-yltriphenylsilane), Sif88 (dibenzo [b, d] thiophen-2-yl ) diphenylsilane), BmPyPhB (1,3-bis [3,5-di (pyridin-3-yl) phenyl] benzene) and / or BTB (4,4'-bis- [2- (4,6-diphenyl-) 1,3,5-triazinyl)] - 1,1'-biphenyl). Adjacent to the electron transport layer (ETL) may be a cathode layer C located. For example, the cathode layer C may include or may comprise a metal (eg, Al, Au, Ag, Pt, Cu, Zn, Ni, Fe, Pb, LiF, Ca, Ba, Mg, In, W, or Pd) or a metal alloy consist. For practical reasons, the cathode layer may also consist of (substantially) non-transparent metals such as Mg, Ca or Al. Alternatively or additionally, the cathode layer C may also comprise graphite and / or carbon nanotubes (CNTs). Alternatively, the cathode layer C can also consist of nanoscale silver wires.
In order to further modify the emission spectrum and / or the absorption spectrum of the light-emitting layer B, the light-emitting layer B may further comprise one or more further emitter compounds F. Alternatively, the emitter compound F may optionally be a fluorescent and / or phosphorescent emitter compound that can shift the emission spectrum and / or the absorption spectrum of the light-emitting layer B. For example, the triplet and / or singlet excitons from the at least one emitter compound E can be transferred to the emitter compound F before they transition to the ground state S 0 by emission of typically red-shifted light compared to the light emitted by the emitter compound E , Optionally, the emitter junction F can also produce two-photon effects (ie, the absorption of two photons of half the energy of the absorption maximum).

In a round bottom flask with reflux condenser, E1 (1 equivalent) is suspended in pure acetic acid. After the addition of A1 (1.1 equivalents) is stirred at 100 ° C for 3 hours. After cooling, the volume of the reaction solution is reduced as much as possible with a rotary evaporator. The remaining volume is treated with CH 2 Cl 2 and washed twice with saturated Na 2 CO 3 . The combined organic phases are dried over MgSO 4 . The solvent is removed with a rotary evaporator. Drying under high vacuum yields E2 as a product that can normally be used without further purification. If necessary, the product E2 can be recrystallized.

- 2) Excitation wavelength: The absorption maximum of the organic molecule is determined and the molecule is excited using this wavelength
- 3) measurement
Herstellung und Charakterisierung von organischen ElektrolumineszenzvorrichtungenPreparation and characterization of organic electroluminescent devices
If a layer contains more than one compound, the percentage by weight of one or more compounds is given in%. The total percentages are 100%, so if no value is given, the proportion of this compound is the difference between the values given and 100%.
The incompletely optimized OLEDs are characterized using standard methods and measurements of electroluminescence spectra, the external quantum efficiency (in%) as a function of the intensity, calculated using the light detected by the photodiode, and the current. The lifetime of the OLED device is extracted from the change in luminance during constant current density operation. The LT50 value corresponds to the time that the measured luminance dropped to 50% of the initial luminance, analogously LT80 corresponds to the time when the measured luminance dropped to 80% of the initial luminance, LT95 the time when the measured luminance dropped to 95%. the initial luminance dropped, etc.
The values correspond to the average of several pixels (typically two to eight), the standard deviation between these pixels is given. The figures show the data series for an OLED pixel.

Beispiel D1 und Vergleichsbeispiel C1Example D1 and Comparative Example C1
