Description
DC-DC converters are usually realized as a switching regulator and usually formed with a first storage capacitor whose terminals form input terminals of the switching regulator. They also have a first circuit comprising at least the first storage capacitor, a storage inductor, a first switching element and a first current measuring resistor, and a second circuit of at least the storage inductor, a second storage capacitor and the discharge of the second storage capacitor via the storage inductor or the first switching element preventing Switching element, wherein the terminals of the second storage capacitor output terminals of the switching regulator form. Switching regulators further comprise a regulator circuit, which is usually arranged to regulate the voltage at the output terminals to a predetermined value, depending on the voltage at the output terminals of the switching regulator and the current through the storage choke.
When the first switching element TR1 is closed, a current flows from the first storage capacitor C1 through the reactor L1 via the first switching element TR1 and the current measuring resistor RSENS. Due to the inductance of the inductor L1, the current increases approximately linearly and is transformed via the first current measuring resistor RSENS into a proportional voltage. The flowing current stores magnetic energy in the choke coil L1. When the first switching element TR1 is opened again, the magnetic energy stored in the choke coil L1 is reduced by a current flow through the diode D1 into the second storage element C2 and consequently charges the second storage capacitor C1 to a voltage U_A.
This is done via a regulator circuit CTLR, for which purpose both the voltage U_A at the second storage capacitor C2 and due to the current flow through the inductor L1, the first switching element TR1 and the first current sense resistor RSENS at the first current sense resistor RSENS voltage is supplied. In this case, the output voltage U_A is compared with a reference or reference voltage Ref_V and the difference is used via a control amplifier as the threshold value for the voltage representing the current through the current measuring resistor RSENS.
The deviation of these two voltages controls a pulse width modulator, which drives the first switching element TR1. As a result, if the output voltage of the boost converter U_A falls too much due to a large load, the first switching element TR1 is turned on for a longer period of time, so that the second storage capacitor C2 can recharge.
DC-DC converters are often used in motor vehicles for generating regulated voltages or voltages that are greater than the vehicle battery voltage. For example, to drive and actuate solenoid injectors currently voltages in the range of 80 volts are used, which must be made available at the output of a DC-DC converter, with its output capacitor buffers the required peak power and provides the required energy.
In modern fuel injection systems for motor vehicles very high peak performance of the driver output stages are needed. These can be over 2kW.
In the case of an injection pulse, depending on the type, the injection driver essentially draws its entire energy or a substantial part thereof from the output capacitor of the DC-DC converter. The DC-DC converter will register the occurring voltage drop at the output capacitor and recharge the output capacitor to its target voltage, this target value being reached long before the end of the break for large pause times, the target value has not yet been reached at short intervals.
The design of the converter is based on several aspects: At least the required average power must of course be provided. In addition, however, it is necessary that the collapse of the capacitor voltage is not too large in fast succession injection pulses, otherwise the accuracy of the injection pulses suffers. This requirement affects both the predetermined power of the DC-DC converter and the capacitance of the output capacitor.
The capacity of the capacitor and the power with which the DC-DC converter can recharge the output capacitor are coordinated in today's systems so that the voltage drop remains within an acceptable range.
As a result, the DC-DC converter is designed for a higher average power and the output capacitor is sized larger than would be necessary in many cases, which increases the cost.
Although this results in a uniform thermal load of the DC-DC converter, but usually does not allow even short-term overload to avoid voltage drops as between the second and third injection pulse.
It is therefore an object of the invention to provide a method for operating a DC-DC converter, which avoids these disadvantages.
The object is achieved by a method for operating a DC-DC converter, wherein stored in an input capacitor electrical energy by means of a switched current flow as magnetic energy in a coil and stored by the degradation of the magnetic field in the coil when switching off the current flow through the coil electrical energy is transferred into an output capacitor, wherein the voltage at the output capacitor is regulated to a predetermined reference voltage, wherein in accordance with the invention, the duration of the charging of the output capacitor is adjusted depending on a known period of two successive energy withdrawals from the output capacitor, so that at a long known period of time the charging duration is long and the DC-DC converter is operated at a low power.
This has the advantage that the DC-DC converter does not heat up very much in phases of such long charging periods and consequently can be operated with higher power and correspondingly higher power loss and thus greater heating in phases in which two energy withdrawals follow each other.
In an advantageous embodiment of the method according to the invention, the predetermined power of the DC-DC converter is increased to an overload power when the known period of two successive energy withdrawals is so short that at the predetermined power within this known period of time, the predetermined reference voltage at the output capacitor can not be achieved.
By reducing the power loss in phases of long charging periods, it is now possible, at short succession following energy withdrawals from the output capacitor to increase the performance of the DC-DC converter at least briefly above its nominal power, so briefly overload it without it would be destroyed.
In a further advantageous embodiment of this measure, the increase of the predetermined power of the DC-DC converter to an overload power depends on the temperature of the DC-DC converter.
This prevents the DC-DC converter from overheating. If several short charging periods follow each other, the increase in power to the overload power can be reduced or reversed again.
Dabei zeigen die The invention will be explained in more detail below with reference to an exemplary embodiment with the aid of a figure. The show

However, it is now possible to briefly increase the power and thus the power loss of the DC-DC converter to an overload power at a subsequent short period of time between two injection pulses, as this still no thermal overload occurs. In the time period denoted by II so now the previously constructed thermal reserve can be exploited for an overload.
The possibility of increasing the power can be made dependent on the temperature of the DC-DC converter, so that at previous longer charging periods or lower outside temperatures of the DC-DC converter can be operated at a higher overload power.
By means of the method according to the invention for operating a DC-DC converter, the injections can be carried out more accurately with fuel injection valves supplied by such a DC-DC converter, or the capacitance of the output capacitor can be selected to be smaller.
