The present invention relates to a device and a method for the removal of gaseous organic irritants from the air. The method and apparatus have the advantage of decomposing organic irritants contained therein into non-irritating and non-toxic products without decomposition of reagents and without major heating of the air, or to decompose to tolerable concentrations of irritating or harmful products. The method is therefore preferably used for the removal of irritants from cooled air, wherein the air is recycled without much heating. Accordingly, it is preferred to provide the device with a return for air in the space from which the air containing the irritant is removed, more preferably, the space is cooled. Accordingly, the invention also relates to a cold room in which the device is arranged, wherein the cooling chamber is set up only for an air exchange sufficient for sufficient oxygen content and permissible CO 2 content of the air, eg according to DIN and / or TA Luft for jobs , Accordingly, the invention relates to a method for establishing or retrofitting a cooling room for reduced irritant content in the air, wherein the cooling space is set for an air exchange for a sufficient oxygen content and permissible CO 2 content of the air, by installing the device in the refrigerator while maintaining the Device for exchanging air and maintaining the cooling device or the cooling capacity. Preferably, the method and according to the device for the removal of the irritant propane oxide is used, which is released, for example, in the processing of onions and leeks. It has been found that products resulting from irritants, for example SO 2 and NO x, are produced in low concentrations which are not harmful to health, preferably below the concentrations stipulated by TA Luft or by regulations for workplace air.

Aufgabe der ErfindungObject of the invention
The object of the invention is to provide an alternative method and an alternative device for the removal of gaseous irritants from the air, preferably without the addition of reactants and without significant heating of the ambient air.
Beschreibung der ErfindungDescription of the invention
The invention achieves the object with the features of the claims, in particular by a method comprising the steps of introducing air containing an irritant into a flow channel, the flow of air containing the irritant through the flow channel, generating a Plasmas by dielectrally impeded discharge over the cross-section of the flow channel and the escape of the air from the flow channel comprises or consists of. According to the invention, the step of decomposing the irritant consists of the flow of the irritant-containing air through the flow channel, while over the cross-section of the flow channel, a plasma is generated by the dielectrically impeded discharge. The dielectrically impeded discharge is effected by at least two electrodes which are isolated by a dielectric from the flow channel and which are connected to opposite poles of a voltage source. The voltage source is set up to supply the electrodes with electrical pulses of at most 1 μs in duration, the voltage of which is sufficient to produce a plasma. A sufficient voltage is preferably 4 kV · gas pressure [mbar] · (distance [m] + sum (thickness of each dielectric [m] / ε r )), wherein the distance [m] is the gap of the flow channel in meters, which is between extends the dielectrics of the two electrodes, the quotients of the thickness of each dielectric in meters, divided by the relative permittivity ε r of the respective dielectric, are summed up and the air pressure is the pressure of the irritant-containing air in the flow channel over which the plasma is generated , Optionally, the voltage source is arranged to generate a reduced electric field strength of 3 to 30 kV / (air pressure [mbar] · distance [m] between the dielectrics of the electrodes).
The voltage source is arranged, for example, to supply the electrodes with voltage at a repetition rate which is sufficient, in each volume element of the air which flows through the flow channel, the plasma at least 50 times. more preferably at least 100 times to ignite. Preferably, the voltage source is arranged to supply the electrodes with a number of voltage pulses of 10 to 10,000, preferably 100 to 1000, which generate the plasma in the volume of the flow channel. Depending on the volume flow of the air through the flow channel, the number of voltage pulses N = f · V / Q, where f is the pulse repetition rate, V is the volume of the flow channel and Q is the gas volume flow.
The process does not require cooling or filtration of the air and also has no absorption step. The method is preferably carried out at an air temperature of 0 ° C to 40 ° C, in particular at 5 ° C to 15 ° C or to 10 ° C, wherein the flow channel and the electrodes preferably have the temperature of the air or not tempered or thermally are isolated.
The method has the advantage of substantially completely eliminating or eliminating organic gaseous irritants to non-irritating and non-toxic products or very low concentrations of irritating products while having a low energy consumption, e.g. in comparison with the cooling and supply of fresh air when replacing the irritant-containing air in a cold store or e.g. compared to the energy consumption of cold traps. The very low concentrations are e.g. below the concentrations permitted by the TA Luft and / or regulations for air at workplaces.
The method can be used to remove gaseous organic irritants from cooled air because the air is not significantly heated by the process. Therefore, the method may provide for introducing the irritant-containing air from a cooling space into the flow channel and returning the air after exiting the flow channel in the cooling space, wherein preferably the flow channel is disposed within the cooling space.
In order to reduce the energy input, it is preferable to arrange the voltage source connected to the electrodes spaced from the flow passage by a dielectric outside the cooling space in which the flow passage is arranged with the dielectrically isolated electrodes including its inlet and outlet.
Zwiebeln (Allium), Laucharten, z.B. Lauch, Knoblauch, Schnittlauch, und Porree. The irritant may be propane oxide and in the cold room may be a process for processing, in particular washing and / or comminuting plants that release the irritant, e.g. of lily plants. Lily plants are e.g. Onions (Allium), leeks, e.g. Leeks, garlic, chives, and leeks.
Reizstoffe sind bevorzugt gasförmige organische Verbindungen, z.B. Propanthialoxid, Chloracetophenon (CN Reizgas), 2-Chlorbenzylidenmalonsäuredinitril (CS Reizgas) oder Dibenzoxazepin (CR Reizgas) oder Reizstoffe mit einem Gehalt an Oleoresin capsicum. Bevorzugt enthält die Luft neben dem Reizstoff keine die Atemwege reizenden gasförmigen anorganischen Verbindungen, z.B. keinen Ammoniak, kein SO2 und/oder kein NOx.Irritants are preferably gaseous organic compounds, for example propane oxide, chloroacetophenone (CN irritant gas), 2-chlorobenzylidene malononitrile (CS irritant gas) or dibenzoxazepine (CR irritant gas) or irritants containing oleoresin capsicum. In addition to the irritant, the air preferably contains no gaseous inorganic compounds which irritate the respiratory tract, for example no ammonia, no SO 2 and / or NO x .
Furthermore, the invention relates to a device set up for carrying out the method. The device has a flow channel on which at least two dielectrically isolated electrodes are arranged in order to generate a dielectrically impeded plasma over the complete cross section of the flow channel. The electrodes are connected to a voltage source adapted to apply to the electrodes electrical pulses of at most 1 μs in duration, the voltage of which is sufficient to produce a plasma, e.g. at a repetition rate sufficient to ignite the plasma in each volume element of the air flowing through the flow channel at least 50 times, more preferably at least 100 times. At the flow channel, a conveyor for air, e.g. a fan, arranged to convey the air into the inlet of the flow channel. The electrodes may be disposed opposite or adjacent to the flow channel. The flow channel preferably has a flat rectangular cross-section, e.g. with a height of 1 to 5 mm, around which the dielectrically isolated electrodes facing each other on the flow channel are spaced from each other. In an alternative embodiment, the flow channel may have this height, the cross-section of the flow channel being spaced from a channel wall formed by adjacent and spaced dielectrically isolated electrodes, and a channel wall formed without electrodes only from a dielectric.
Preferably, the outlet of the flow channel opens at a distance from the inlet into the space in which the inlet is arranged. The device preferably has no cooling device, no filter and no absorption device. Therefore, in operation, the apparatus of this embodiment does not require any power other than that for generating the dielectrically impeded plasma and optionally for the operation of an air delivery device through the flow channel and does not require supplies, e.g. no filter or absorber material.

To this end, air (3.13 L / min) was passed through a bubbler filled with chopped onions, the chopped onions being mechanically stressed by stirring to release propanthial oxide. This airflow with the irritant was passed through a flow channel, which had a cross section of about 1 mm × 1 cm at a length of about 10 cm (volume of the flow channel about 1 mL) and at its broad side electrodes were arranged, each alternately connected to a voltage source. One of the electrodes was isolated by a ceramic layer of about 1 mm as a dielectric from the flow channel. The voltage source acted on the electrodes with pulses with voltage peaks of 11 kV, pulse duration about 0.6 μs at a repetition rate of 10 kHz. This corresponds to pulses or plasma ignitions per volume of the flow channel of approx. 192 = 10 kHz · 1 mL / 3.13 L / min. The process was carried out at about 20 ° C. The measurement of the temperatures at the inlet and outlet of the flow channel resulted in a temperature increase of less than 10 ° C.
At the outlet of the flow channel, a quadrupole mass spectrometer was connected as a sensor. The airflow with the irritant was measured with the mass spectrometer while the power source was off. For the measurement of the effect of the method, the voltage source then acted on the electrodes with the aforementioned pulses.
