Description
The present invention relates to an injection molding method for producing a syringe with an integrated closure element having at least one projection, and a syringe with such a closure element.
The use of so-called prefilled plastic syringes has become widespread in medicine. These syringes are delivered to the user with the medium to be used and have the advantage that they are very easy to use, since the medium does not have to be transferred into the syringe before use. Furthermore, even in an emergency, the probability of using the wrong medication is very low. Such syringes are also used in the pharmaceutical and biotech industries. Today they are the primary packaging of choice for vaccines and numerous other medicines.
The conical design of both connecting parts ensures an adequate seal.
It is often necessary to secure the connection of a syringe to a transfer system, for example a hose or the like, against unwanted loosening. For this purpose, the syringes are equipped with a connection element which has an internal thread and is therefore often referred to as a union nut. By means of the internal thread, the syringe can be reversibly connected to corresponding transfer systems, which prevents an undesired loosening of the connection. In order to ensure compatibility with the largest possible number of connection elements, the connection element or the internal thread is of standardized design. The Luer-Lock system is such a standardized screw system. The Luer-Lock connection has proven itself worldwide for reversible connections of syringes, cannulas, infusion tubes, spinal needles, etc.
The pre-filled syringes can be fitted with attachable Luer lock connections afterwards. However, there are also syringe bodies that are already manufactured with a Luer lock connection. Such prefillable syringes (bodies) are manufactured, packaged, sterilized and ready for filling directly into the filler's clean room, for example a pharmaceutical, by the primary packaging manufacturer under clean room conditions. They can then be used for bottling without any further treatment steps. Most of the time, the inner walls of the syringes are also siliconized so that the plunger stopper moves easily in the syringe and nevertheless a sufficient seal between the syringe body and the plunger is ensured. The prefillable syringes are filled by the filler from the proximal side or the flange side. As a result, the distal end of the syringe must be closed beforehand. Typically, this is an elastic, sealing closure that is removed before the syringe is used. This closure can be made of either a rubber or an elastic thermoplastic. In the prior art known to date, such a closure is mounted on the syringe during production. A disadvantage of such an assembly of a closure that has to be integrated subsequently is higher expenditure for automation. On the one hand, this causes costs due to the additionally required complex equipment such as robotic arms. The cycle times for the production of a single syringe are also extended. In addition, there is an increased risk of contamination of the head area of the syringe, since this is open at the start of processing and is only closed afterwards.
Furthermore, it is particularly advantageous for medical products to implement what is known as a “tamper evidence feature”, which indicates whether the respective product has already been used. This prevents a product that has already been used from being incorrectly regarded as a new product and ensures that the product is still in its original condition. Especially in the medical field, manipulation of the respective product can have serious effects. For example, it is advantageous to recognize whether, for example, a pre-filled syringe still has the original contents, since otherwise there are risks for the user or the patient.
Such “tamper evidence features” are usually attached to the packaging of the respective product. For example, the packaging of tablets in the so-called Blisters are covered with a film that separates when the medication is pressed out due to special dividing lines so that it is irreversibly deformed and cannot be returned to its original state. Syringes can also be packed in blisters, for example. However, a problem with such packaging, especially for syringes, is that the syringes could be repackaged after manipulation. There is therefore still a risk for the patient.
Furthermore, reuse of syringes is generally not desirable, so it is helpful to see if the syringe has already been used. This can hardly be determined by conventional syringe closures. There is therefore a risk of syringes being used again if it is not immediately apparent whether the original condition of the syringe is still present.
It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a method for producing a prefillable plastic syringe which solves the problems mentioned at the outset and accordingly enables simple and inexpensive manufacture of such a syringe.
- a) Bereitstellen eines Spritzgusswerkzeugs, welches einen ersten, einen zweiten und einen dritten Werkzeugabschnitt umfasst, wobei der erste Werkzeugabschnitt einen sich entlang einer ersten axialen Richtung erstreckenden beidseitig offenen Formhohlraum aufweist und wobei der zweite Werkzeugabschnitt einen ersten Spritzgusskern und der dritte Werkzeugabschnitt einen zweiten Spritzgusskern aufweist;
- b) Schließen des Spritzgusswerkzeugs, so dass der erste Werkzeugabschnitt den zweiten und dritten Werkzeugabschnitt kontaktiert und der erste und zweite Spritzgusskern durch jeweils eine Öffnung in den Formhohlraum des ersten Werkzeugabschnitts in diesen eintreten und sich schließlich kontaktieren, wodurch diese Werkzeugabschnitte eine erste Kavität bilden;
- c) Einspritzen eines ersten Kunststoffmaterials in die erste Kavität, wodurch ein hohlzylindrischer Spritzenkörper, an dessen distalen Ende ein Endbereich angeordnet ist, ausgebildet wird, wobei der Endbereich ein mit einem Innengewinde und wenigstens einer Aussparung versehenes Anschlusselement und ein hohlzylindrisches Endstück, welches von dem Anschlusselement zumindest abschnittsweise umrandet ist, aufweist;
- d) Abkühlen der Werkzeugabschnitte, wodurch der Spritzenkörper abkühlt und aushärtet;
- e) Kontaktieren des ersten Werkzeugabschnitts mit einem, einen einseitig geschlossenen Formhohlraum aufweisenden vierten Werkzeugabschnitt, wodurch eine zweite Kavität an dem distalen Ende des Spritzenkörpers gebildet wird;
- a) Providing an injection molding tool which comprises a first, a second and a third tool section, the first tool section having a mold cavity which is open on both sides and extends along a first axial direction, and wherein the second tool section has a first injection molding core and the third tool section has a second injection molding core ;
- b) closing the injection molding tool so that the first tool section contacts the second and third tool section and the first and second injection molding core enter the mold cavity of the first tool section through an opening and finally contact each other, whereby these tool sections form a first cavity;
- c) injecting a first plastic material into the first cavity, thereby forming a hollow cylindrical syringe body, at the distal end of which an end region is arranged, the end region being a connecting element provided with an internal thread and at least one recess, and a hollow cylindrical end piece which is separated from the connecting element is bordered at least in sections;
- d) cooling the tool sections, whereby the syringe body cools and hardens;
- e) contacting the first tool section with a fourth tool section having a mold cavity which is closed on one side, as a result of which a second cavity is formed at the distal end of the syringe body;
- f) injecting a second plastic material into the second cavity, as a result of which the closure element is molded onto the connection element, as a result of which a projection is formed in the at least one cutout, the first and the second plastic material not forming an integral connection.
The manufacturing method according to the invention provides a syringe with a connection element, which is preferably designed as a Luer lock system. The syringe is provided with an integrated closure element which is molded directly onto the connection element by the method according to the invention. Because the two plastic materials of the connection element and the closure element do not form an integral connection, the closure element can be detached from the connection element. In step b), a connection element is formed which is provided with an internal thread and with at least one recess and to which the closure element is molded in step f). Consequently, the closure element is provided with an external thread and with at least one projection, since the internal thread and the recess act as shaping structures. This external thread accordingly engages in the internal thread of the connection element and the at least one projection in the recess of the connection element. This lead represents a so-called “tamper evidence feature”. In this context, a “tamper evidence feature” includes all elements that are able to indicate whether an object, in particular a syringe, has already been used, so that due to the nature of these elements, the originality of a product is clearly recognizable. The first and the second plastic material are in a liquid state.
Because the two plastic materials of connection element and closure element do not form a material connection, the connection element and closure element are positively or non-positively connected by means of a screw connection. The user can thus detach the closure element from the connection element by rotating the closure element. By rotating the closure element, the projections that have been attached to it are irreversibly deformed when they emerge from the cutouts, so that the closure element indicates whether the syringe has already been used.
The cooling and curing of the syringe body in method step d) ensures that the first and the second plastic material do not form an integral connection. The syringe body should be cooled to a temperature which is low enough that the injection of the second plastic material does not cause the contacted surfaces of the syringe body to melt.
The method according to the invention is considerably simpler and more effective than the methods known from the prior art, since there is no need to subsequently install a closure. Furthermore, it is no longer necessary to produce the closure part in a separate manufacturing step, as a result of which the production outlay and the material outlay are reduced. The syringe according to the invention is thus more economical and easier to produce, since there are no additional costs for the manufacture and assembly of a closure part. Furthermore, there is no risk of contamination of the head region of the syringe before the syringe is closed, since it is possible to produce the closure element in the same process as the syringe body. In addition, the formation of the at least one lead generates a “tamper evidence feature” directly on the product, which provides increased security with regard to misuse or misuse, since it can be seen directly on the product itself whether the product has already been used. In addition, the trained projections eliminate the need for packaging with additional “tamper evidence features”.
The at least one recess is preferably surrounded by an outer and an inner wall section, the outer wall section forming part of the outer surface of the connection element. The recess is thus located in the radial direction between two wall sections. The at least one recess is designed in the circumferential direction in such a way that the screwing out of the closure element is made possible and at the same time a deformation of the at least one projection is ensured.
The pitch of the internal thread of the connection element preferably corresponds to the pitch of the at least one projection. This is necessary to enable the closure element to be unscrewed without the closure element jamming through the at least one projection in the connection element.
So wären beispielsweise zwei Vorsprünge bzw. Aussparungen um 180°, drei Vorsprünge bzw. Aussparungen um 120° und vier Vorsprünge bzw. Aussparungen um jeweils 90° zueinander versetzt.In a preferred embodiment, two, more preferably three and particularly preferably more than three recesses are formed on the connection element and projections complementary thereto on the closure element. In the case of an arrangement of two or more recesses or projections, these are preferably offset from one another in a circumferential direction at uniform angular intervals. For example, two projections or recesses would be offset by 180 °, three projections or recesses by 120 ° and four projections or recesses by 90 ° each.
In a particularly preferred embodiment, a sealing element is attached to the fourth tool section after the method step d) in a further method step d2), the fourth tool section having a holding element which projects into the mold cavity of the fourth tool section and is designed to hold the sealing element. Furthermore, the sealing element is preferably pressed against the hollow cylindrical end piece of the syringe body in method step e). The hollow cylindrical end piece is sealed by pressing the sealing element onto the hollow cylindrical end piece of the syringe body. The sealing element is preferably made of a rubber material. However, the sealing element can be made of any other material, such as For example, plastic, which does not cause reactions with the commonly used drugs or substances. By arranging a sealing element, there is no direct contact of the second plastic material with the medicament, which is why the selection of the second plastic material is not restricted by the medicament compatibility.
The sealing element is preferably enclosed by the second plastic material after the completion of method step f), so that the sealing element continues to be pressed against the hollow cylindrical end piece of the syringe body after the fourth mold section has been removed from the mold. This is advantageous in order to prevent the sealing element from slipping after manufacture and to ensure reliable sealing of the syringe. Accordingly, the sealing element is completely encased at least in the circumferential direction and at least partially in a first axial direction X by the second plastic material.
Between method steps d) and e), the second injection molding core is particularly preferably removed from the connection element of the syringe body and the third tool section is removed from the first tool section, the second injection molding core being rotated by the second injection molding core from the internal thread and the at least one recess of the connection element is removed from the mold. A rotary movement to remove the second injection molding core is advantageous in order not to damage the formed internal thread and the at least one recess. The second injection molding core is rotatably supported in the fourth tool section.
Furthermore, after the method has ended, all the mold halves are demolded from one another by means of a relative movement to one another and / or to the syringe body. This movement can be a rotational as well as a translatory movement.
The first and the second plastic material are preferably different materials. According to a particularly preferred embodiment, the first plastic material is a polymer plastic, preferably a polyolefin, for example polypropylene or polyethylene, particularly preferably a cyclo-olefin polymer (COP) or a cyclo-olefin copolymer (COC). In contrast to the semi-crystalline polyolefins such as polyethylene and polypropylene, COC and COP are amorphous and therefore transparent. Such plastics are distinguished by the fact that they have excellent biocompatibility, in particular blood tolerance, and extremely low water absorption / water vapor permeability. Furthermore, these plastics show no reaction with the usual medication used. This embodiment is particularly advantageous if an additional sealing element is provided in the closure element, since in this way the second plastic material does not come into contact with the medicament and therefore only the sealing element has to meet the special requirements.
According to a further preferred embodiment, the second plastic material is a thermoplastic elastomer.
According to a further preferred embodiment, the first and the second plastic material are the same materials. This material is advantageously a polymer plastic, preferably a polyolefin, for example polypropylene or polyethylene, particularly preferably a cyclo-olefin polymer (COP) or a cyclo-olefin copolymer (COC). As already mentioned, COC / COP are particularly suitable for prefillable syringes due to the high barrier properties. Such a configuration is particularly advantageous for prefillable syringes, since the closure material is in contact with the medium (drug / vaccine) in the syringe during the entire storage period of the prefilled syringe. The properties of the materials COP and COC mentioned above ensure that the closure material has as little influence as possible on the medium. This embodiment is particularly relevant without the use of an additional sealing element, since there the second plastic material has direct contact with the medicament.
The object of the invention is also achieved by a syringe with a closure element formed thereon and with at least one projection arranged on the closure element, which is produced by a method according to one of the preceding embodiments.
In a preferred embodiment of the syringe, a sealing element is arranged on the closure element.
