Description
Gebiet der ErfindungField of the invention
The invention relates to a modular vehicle system and a method of operating the same, and more particularly to a modular vehicle system for overcoming obstacles and a method of operating the modular vehicle system to overcome obstacles.
Hintergrund der ErfindungBackground of the invention
Today, fast and accurate maintenance and inspection work in highly sensitive tubular structures, such as those found in particle accelerators such as the Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research (FAIR) SIS-100 at the Society for Heavy Ion Research (GSI), plays an important role. So far, the mentioned work is usually done manually. For this purpose, larger parts of the pipe structure must be opened, which entails an enormous time and cost and can lead to damage to the pipe structure. An efficient way to carry out such work without direct intervention could be achieved through an appropriate maintenance and inspection robot.
Currently, inspection and maintenance robots are used in particular in the maintenance of gas and oil pipelines. From the prior art, the so-called pig robots are known here, which are introduced for maintenance in the pipeline and then make semi-autonomous maintenance mostly. The mentioned pig robots are usually modular and provided with different tools. Due to the field of application, however, they are usually approximately positive fit with the pipe to be inspected and are therefore only suitable for one type of pipeline, with the pipes of the pipeline being virtually empty (except for impurities to be removed). In addition, the mentioned pig robots are enormously heavy.
In the maintenance area of the aforementioned highly sensitive pipe structures, however, additional requirements are placed on a maintenance robot: the robot should leave as little as possible residues of contamination in the pipe structure; be able to perform obstacle avoidance maneuvers in a space efficient way; and at the same time be able to carry a variable variety of instruments.
Überblick über die ErfindungOverview of the invention
It is the object of the invention to provide a lightweight modular vehicle system for performing inspection and maintenance work inside a tubular structure, e.g. in a particle accelerator, as well as an associated method of operating the same, wherein the modular vehicle system can efficiently overcome obstacles (space) while leaving little fouling residue in the structure.
The object is solved by the modular vehicle system for overcoming obstacles and the corresponding method according to the claims.
In one possible embodiment, the modular vehicle system comprises a minimum structure consisting of at least three sub-modules, each connected by a vertical joint unit, each of the modules in this case comprises at least one wheel unit, and wherein a total of four wheel units are present. Preferably, the middle of the three sub-modules has two wheel units. Each wheel unit in turn has two drive wheels, wherein the drive wheels of the sub-modules, which lie in the direction of travel at the foremost and last place, are arranged at the extreme front or outermost rear edge or end of the respective sub-module. The vertical joint units are each connected to a joint actuator that can tilt the respective vertical joint units up or down, wherein on one of the submodules of the modular vehicle system, a Radantriebs unit is arranged, which drives the wheel units. The joint actuator may also pivot right and left in one possible embodiment, preferably using servos or stepper motors. On one of the submodules of the modular vehicle system is provided a control unit which controls at least the operation of the wheel units and the vertical joint units. This can be done remotely wirelessly and with cable or autonomous. The drive wheels of the frontmost submodule in the direction of travel are arranged so that in that, by moving the first submodule vertically and approaching the modular vehicle system, the drive wheels are placed on a surface of the obstacle to be reached. This allows a drive on the surface. The laying can be detected by sensors or by the power consumption of the wheel units, wherein the control unit is adapted to hang the drive wheels of the front in the direction of travel sub-module on the surface to be reached and after hanging, the wheel units and the vertical To steer steering units so that the remaining sub-modules are guided to the surface to be reached. Here, one sub-module after another is guided on the surface, and wherein one or more of the last sub-modules are raised only when the center of gravity of the modular vehicle system is between two wheel units that are already on the surface to be reached.
- b.) Entscheiden des Überwindungsweges, anhand des vorherigen Erkennens, durch die Steuerungs-Einheit; nach dem Erkennen eines Hindernisses wird eine Entscheidung getroffen, ob ein Hindernis vorliegt, das überwunden werden soll. Wenn dies bejaht wurde, wird der nächste Schritt eingeleitet;
- a.) detection of the obstacle to be overcome by the control unit; The detection can be detected by optical, haptic or drive sensors of the drive units. In particular, a load sensor can be used, which detects the load on the wheels.
- b.) deciding the overcoming path, based on the previous recognition, by the control unit; After recognizing an obstacle, a decision is made as to whether there is an obstacle to be overcome. If yes, the next step is initiated;
- c.) controlling the vertical joint unit of the front in the direction of travel sub-module and the wheel units to hang up the front in the direction of travel sub-module with the wheel unit on the upper surface of the obstacle; This is to allow the wheel unit to stop on the surface and ride on the surface to pull the submodule onto the surface.
- d.) controlling the joint units and the wheel units, the subsequent sub-modules, to convey the subsequent sub-modules to the surface of the obstacle. In this case, the last or the last sub-modules is raised only when the focus is between two wheel units that are already on the surface of the obstacle.
It should be noted that the vehicle system and method are not limited to applications in particle accelerator tubes. Both general applications in the field of inspection of ducts and pipes, as well as applications in the field of safety technology and applications in the field of rescue operations are conceivable.
The drive unit allows the modular vehicle system to be moved in normal operation. The control here takes place either autonomously or semi-autonomously via a control unit or via a manual control unit, in which case a transmitting and receiving unit must be arranged on a submodule of the modular vehicle system. If the modular vehicle system encounters an obstacle (e.g., a step) in travel, that obstacle is detected by a sensor and the control unit decides how to bypass the obstacle. More specifically, the control unit first determines the overcoming path, which may extend up, down, or in the same plane, and thereafter correspondingly controls the articulated units and wheel units of the modular vehicle system.
The respective sub-modules preferably have a rectangular shape, so that the sub-modules have the lowest possible height. Each sub-module comprises at least one rigid frame, which may be made of a suitable material, such as plastic, aluminum, titanium or iron and optionally also final edge surfaces to protect the interior of the respective sub-module. The sub-modules are designed so that the essential components of the modular vehicle system, such as the wheel units and the vertical joint units can be mounted in or on the frame of the sub-module, and that additional components are arranged in the sub-modules can. Although a rectangular shape is preferred in most cases, reference is nevertheless made to the possibility that the sub-modules may also be in another form, in particular a cylindrical shape.
The above-described drive unit is preferably a usual stepping motor or a servo motor connected to and controlled by the control unit. In a preferred embodiment, a respective drive unit is arranged on each wheel unit, which drives these. However, even more complicated engine types are conceivable.
The above-described vertical joint unit preferably consists of a minimal construction, which consists of a short, straight joint-shaft piece, wherein at its front and / or rear side in each case a vertically movable joint is arranged, and wherein this joint is a joint bushing has to the vertical joint unit front and rear to be rotatably connected to a respective sub-module and fixedly attached to the other sub-module.
The joint actuator system described above preferably consists of a servo motor. The servo motor is particularly chosen because of its flat and compact design and because it is powerful enough to fully lift a sub-module. Preferably, the servo motor has an integrated position control, whereby an external control and an encoder are not necessary. The output of the servo used is arranged on one side or on both sides. Furthermore, other actuators can be used, provided the permissible dimensions are complied with. Embodiments with bilateral output are also possible.

In a particularly preferred embodiment, the modular vehicle system comprises a structure consisting of four sub-modules, four wheel units each having two drive wheels, a drive unit, three vertical joint units and three associated Gelenkaktoriken, a control unit, a sensor for detecting of obstacles and a mobile power unit.

Said mobile power supply is arranged on one of the sub-modules. During long-term work or when using many tools, several mobile power supplies are placed on the sub-modules.
In another preferred embodiment, the modular vehicle system further comprises at least one transceiver unit for receiving control signals from a user terminal and transmitting signals to the user terminal. The transceiver unit is particularly necessary for work in which only semi-autonomous operation or even fully manual operation is desired (e.g., during inspection work). The user can intervene directly in certain operations of the modular vehicle system in this case. However, in addition to this mode of operation, a completely autonomous operation is possible, in which case the transceiver unit is not necessary.
In another embodiment, the modular vehicle system further includes additional maintenance tools and / or analysis tools and / or cleaning devices that may be mounted on additional sub-modules that are modularly connected to the modular vehicle system in the manner previously described. In particular, cameras, sensors, gripping arms or screw arms can be used as maintenance tools in order to tighten, loosen or replace screws in the accelerator structure or to remove defective partial structures from the accelerator structure. In particular, analysis tools can be tools with which holes and cracks in the accelerator structure can be detected.
In a further preferred embodiment, the modular vehicle system further comprises at least one sensor, which is pronounced as an optical sensor and / or acoustic sensor and / or haptic sensor. It can also be a load sensor that detects whether there is a load on a wheel unit. In this context, the vehicle system can in particular also be operated autonomously and semi-autonomously, so that the work is carried out automatically.
In a further preferred embodiment, the modular vehicle system further comprises at least one camera. This embodiment is particularly desirable when recording is made and / or when the modular vehicle system, at least temporarily, to be controlled manually. To think here is e.g. to an application in which the modular vehicle system visits a damaged area and a user thereafter performs the appropriate maintenance.
In a further preferred embodiment, the modular vehicle system has a wheel pad, which consists of a low abrasion material on. Titanium or a titanium alloy is preferably used as the abrasion-resistant material. In addition, different profiles of the wheel cover are possible, which are adapted to the particular environment, and different wheel or Radbelagsdurchmesser. If the cleanliness of the system to be driven plays a minor role, rubber or even chain drives are possible and conceivable.
Kryokollimatoren vorliegenIn a further preferred embodiment, the modular vehicle system further comprises at least one additional horizontal-vertical joint unit and an associated Gelenkaktorik to additionally control the vehicle system in the horizontal direction. These Embodiment is particularly required when complicated obstacles such as cryocollimators are present
In a further preferred embodiment, at least one submodule of the modular vehicle system comprises an extension unit in order to vary the length of the submodule.
In a further particularly preferred embodiment, the method comprises iteratively carrying out the following substeps: d1.) Controlling the at least two joint units of the respective sub-modules to be lifted or lowered, by the control unit, to raise or lower these sub-modules; and d2.) controlling the wheel units, by the control unit, to move the modular vehicle system forward.
In a further preferred embodiment, in the case of a short system, there are never more than two submodules of the modular vehicle system in the air, thus ensuring that the vehicle system is always stable on a surface.
In a further embodiment of the method, a plurality of sub-modules may be in the air, as long as the modular vehicle system is stable on at least one surface.
The method by which the modular vehicle system can be controlled over various obstacles comprises a plurality of successive steps depending on whether the obstacle extends up or down: in the first step, the obstacle either autonomously through a site plan, semi autonomously detected by at least one sensor (eg an optical sensor or an acoustic sensor) or manually by a camera; in the second step, a corresponding overcoming path is determined by the control unit; the selection of the subsequent steps depends on which overcoming path has been chosen by the control unit, and if this is an upwardly extending overcoming path (eg for climbing a step) the control unit will carry out the following further ones Steps through: Controlling the vertical articulating unit of the forward-facing sub-module to tilt the sub-module located forward in the direction of travel until the front drive wheels of the front wheel unit are at the level of the step top; controlling the remaining wheel units to drive the vehicle up to the step until the front drive wheel rests on top of the step; successively controlling the remaining vertical articulating units and wheel units to completely advance the modular vehicle system to the step; and wherein, if it is a downwardly extending override path (eg, to descend a step), the control unit performs the following further steps: controlling the wheel units until the forward submodule is in the forward direction Has moved obstacle away, in particular, the front vertical joint unit is arranged freely tiltable over the edge of the obstacle away; controlling the vertical joint unit of the forward directional sub-module to tilt the forward sub-module downwards so that the front drive wheels are at the level of the underside of the step; successively controlling the remaining vertical articulating units and wheel units to completely lower the modular vehicle system from the step down.

Ausführliche Beschreibung der Figuren Detailed description of the figures
In the following, the present invention will be described with reference to possible embodiments, with the aid of the present figures. The embodiments serve merely to illustrate the present invention and are not a limitation thereof. In particular, the features of various embodiments can be combined.
With the described steps it is also possible to overcome other obstacles, especially holes. In this case, first the first submodule is tilted upward in accordance with the initial step HA1, then the wheel units approach the edge of the hole so that the second wheel still rests securely on the surface. Thereafter, the front sub-module is tilted down (similar to end-step RE2) and the vehicle system can pass the hole.
Furthermore, it is also possible that, especially for longer arrangements, several sub-modules are moved at once to overcome higher levels or larger holes, in which case the center of gravity of the system must always be clearly located between the sub-modules on a surface, so that a stable Balance is achieved.
