Synthetically produced silicas have been playing a major role for many years as part of dentifrices. There are a number of methods for making silicas that are specifically tailored for use in toothpastes. These methods adhere to procedural disadvantages that are unsatisfactory both economically and ecologically.

The object of the present invention is to provide a process for the production of precipitated silica, wherein the precipitated silica achieves a very high abrasiveness, which exceeds in its cleaning effect that of previous dental silicic acids, but at the same time causes little damage to the enamel. This new property of the precipitated silica can be expressed by the so-called Schonabriebsfaktor.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a method that allows the determination of the abrasiveness (abrasion abrasion factor) of silicas.
The invention relates to a process for the preparation of a precipitated silica, which is characterized in that
Provides water and adds alkali and / or alkaline earth silicate until a pH of 8.0 to 10.8 sets,
in this template while stirring at 50-95 ° C, preferably 70-90 ° C, simultaneously alkali and / or alkaline earth silicate and an acidifier without interrupting the addition is added to a solids content of greater than 150 g / l, preferably greater than 160 g / l , particularly preferably 160 to 240 g / l, wherein the acidifying agent is added to the shaving head of an additional shearing unit in the precipitation container,
then acidified with an acidifier to a pH of ≤ 5.0, preferably ≤ 4.0,
separates the solid by filtration and washes,
Dries and mills.
The addition of the acidifying agent directly to the shaving head of the additional shearing unit ensures intensive mixing of the acid into the precipitation suspension and thus the most homogeneous and rapid distribution possible. As a shear unit, a turbine, such as an Ekato fluid shear turbine can be used.
Der pH-Wert kann vorzugsweise 8,0–10,8 sein, besonders bevorzugt 8,0–8,5 oder 9,0–9,5 oder 10,0–10,8.The simultaneous addition of alkali and / or alkaline earth silicate and the acidulant can be carried out so that the pH remains constant. The pH may preferably be 8.0-10.8, more preferably 8.0-8.5 or 9.0-9.5 or 10.0-10.8.
Sulfuric acid is preferably used as acidifier. However, other acidulants such as HCl, HNO 3 , H 3 PO 4 or CO 2 can also be used.
As the alkali or alkaline earth silicate, it is preferable to use water glass (sodium silicate solution having a weight modulus of 2.0 to 3.5) and / or other silicates such as potassium silicate or calcium silicate. Particularly preferably, water glass with a weight modulus (SiO 2 : alkali oxide) of 2.5 to 3.9 and a density of 1.30 to 1.45 kg / l is used.
Zur Filtration kann man Kammerpressen, Bandfilter oder Membranfilterpressen einsetzen. For filtration, chamber presses, belt filters or membrane filter presses can be used.

The silicas prepared by the process according to the invention may have a DBP of less than 80 ml / 100 g and an RDA value of greater than 160.
The inventive method for producing a precipitated silica has the advantage that at high solids contents in the precipitation suspension, low water retention capacity of the filter cake, and consequently the use of low drying energies, with high efficiency, a wide range of abrasivities of precipitated silica (and thus when used in toothpastes in the finished paste) can be adjusted. In this case, the degree of abrasiveness can be adjusted specifically by varying the solids content in the precipitation suspension, with accompanying Fällparameterveränderungen, such as temperature, pH or feed rate of the reactants, further variations also in terms of thickening behavior, the refractive index, etc. allow. By using a shearing unit, a homogeneous distribution of the reactants is achieved. By metering the acid onto the shearing unit, it is instantaneously dispersed (micromixing) and can thus react with the water glass to form silicic acid without forming concentration peaks. If the acid were introduced via a so-called effervescent tube, as is often used in conventional precipitation processes, inhomogeneities would result due to the discrete acid droplets, whereby a silicic acid crust would first form around this droplet and this lump would not form during the precipitation, e.g. due to introduction of stirring energy, degrade and completely react. However, this complete degradation of the encrusted lumps is generally not complete, so that there are inhomogeneities even after completion of the precipitation. Furthermore, the use of a shear unit in conjunction with the dosage of the acid on this also ensures a different growth of the silica aggregates. Also with regard to the use of relatively concentrated educt solutions and a constantly increasing silica concentration and ionic strength, a shift of the silica aggregate growth takes place on the agglomerate growth side (as opposed to the growth of the growth). Homogeneous aggregate growth, however, leads to rounder aggregates / agglomerates without local hardening or even crusty edges. Local hardening and / or crust-like edges in turn could lead to a greater damage to the enamel, but do not occur in the production method according to the invention.
The precipitated silica produced by the process according to the invention can be used as an abrasive and / or thickening component in toothpaste formulations. Another Application is the use as a polishing or abrasive. Preferably, the precipitated silica can be used as Abrasivskieselsäure in toothpastes.
Another object of the invention is a method for determining the Schonabriebfaktors with an abrasion tester, which is characterized in that one uses test specimens of cast polymethyl methacrylate.
SchonabriebfaktorEven wear factor
The Schonabriebfaktor is determined by a method in which a selection of different roughness parameters, as well as their evaluation, provides further information in terms of area and depth effect. This can be a metrological distinction between the desired Abrasionswirkung and the unwanted tooth destroying effect (grooves). In addition to the quantitative statement based on the RDA value, a qualitative statement is possible.

Prüfkörper für den Abrasivitätstest:Test specimen for the abrasiveness test:
For the Abrasivitätsversuche instead of human teeth, or parts thereof, platelet-shaped specimens made of Plexiglas GS 811 (manufacturer Evonik Industries AG), black, with the dimensions 78 × 25 × 3 mm used. It is cast PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate). It is advantageous that this material has no preferred direction by the production by means of extrusion. In addition, these PMMA test specimens always have the same material properties with respect to human teeth. The individual specimens are provided with a protective film, which is deducted only immediately before the start of the Abrasivitätsversuches.

Each test run is to be carried out as a sixfold determination. The test specimens lie flat in the test baths. The surface protection foils of the test specimens are to be removed immediately before insertion. A silica sample weighing 20.0 g is mixed with 180.0 g demineralised water (deionized water) in a 250 ml graduated cylinder and dispersed by hand with a laboratory spatula for 1 minute. Each 20 ml dispersion of the homogeneous dispersion are used per test tank.
Messung der Proben:Measurement of samples:
The measurement is carried out on 3 Plexiglas plates per abrasiveness test. For each measurement, 10 parallel scanning cuts are made transversely to the direction of abrasion in the middle of the sample (scanning distance = 6 mm); the parallelism is ensured by the Y-positioner, the distances between the working sections are 1 mm; Subsequently, the statistical determination of the "sample mean values" of the selected roughness parameters from n = 10 sample sections is carried out by the measuring software.
Subsequently, a mathematical determination of the mean values of the selected roughness parameters from n = 3 "sample mean values" is carried out. These averages represent the data characterizing the particular silica.
Auswertung der Proben:Evaluation of the samples:

Bedeutung der Rauheitswerte für die praktische Beurteilung des AbrasionsverhaltensImportance of roughness values for the practical assessment of the abrasion behavior
Rsk (Schiefe) Rsk (obliquity)
Je negativer der Wert, umso mehr Riefen weist das Rauheitsprofil auf.is the measure of the asymmetry of the amplitude distribution of the roughness profile. A plateau-like profile character is characterized by a negative value of the skewness. For normally distributed profile coordinates, the value of the skewness is zero. The more negative the value, the more grooves the roughness profile has.
Rku (Steilheit / Kurtosis)Rku (steepness / kurtosis)
Je höher der Wert, umso ausgeprägter sind die Riefen des Rauheitsprofiles.is the measure of the steepness of the amplitude distribution of the roughness profile. For a roughness profile with normally distributed profile coordinates, the value of kurtosis equals 3. For sharper valleys (and peaks) in the roughness profile, the value Rku> 3. The higher the value, the more pronounced are the grooves of the roughness profile.
Rk (Profilkernbereich der Materialanteilkurve)Rk (profile core area of the material share curve)
The material-share curve (Abbott curve) formed from the filtered roughness profile is subdivided into three profile areas, which are characterized by characteristics. The kernel roughness Rk is the depth of the roughness kernel profile. The higher the value, the stronger the (desired) abrasion.
Rvk (Profilriefenbereich der Materialanteilkurve)Rvk (profile call area of material share curve)
The average depth of the grooves projecting from the core region into the material is the reduced groove depth Rvk. The higher the value, the more pronounced are the grooves of the roughness profile.
Quotient Rvk / RkQuotient Rvk / Rk
This quotient relates the profile score area and the profile core area. The higher the value, the stronger the formation of grooves at the expense of the (desired) abrasion.
A1 (Spitzenfläche der Materialanteilkurve)A1 (peak area of the material component curve)
Die Summe der oberhalb der Kernrauhtiefe Rk ermittelten Profilflächen ist die Spitzenfläche A1.The sum of the profile surfaces determined above the kernel roughness Rk is the tip area A1.
A2 (Riefenfläche der Materialanteilkurve)A2 (groove surface of the material component curve)
Die Summe der unterhalb der Kernrauhtiefe Rk ermittelten Profilflächen ist die Riefenfläche A2.The sum of the profile surfaces determined below the core roughness Rk is the score area A2.
Quotient A2 / A1Quotient A2 / A1
This quotient relates the profile profile area and the profile tip area in relation. The higher the value, the stronger the formation of the groove surface at the expense of the (desired) abrasion.
RPc (Spitzenzahl)RPc (peak number)
Number of profile irregularities per unit length of the roughness profile, which successively exceed a lower cutting line c2 (counting threshold) and an upper cutting line c1, the distance between the two cutting lines being parallel and symmetrical to the center line of the profile.
The number of tips is related to a length of 10 mm, regardless of the selected measuring section. The higher the value, the more grooves the roughness profile has within the count thresholds.
The inventive method for measuring the Schonabriebfaktors has the advantage that the test specimens have no preferred direction by the production by extrusion. In addition, these PMMA test specimens always have the same material properties with respect to human teeth.

Then, with intensive stirring and shearing at a temperature of 87 ° C for 270 min 48.15 m 3 (10.7 m 3 / h) of the above waterglass and 3.15 m 3 sulfuric acid (density 1.83 kg / l , 96 wt .-% H 2 SO 4 ) (0.719 m 3 / h) added simultaneously, so that a pH of 10.5 is maintained. The sulfuric acid is metered onto the shear turbine. Both raw material additions are stopped after a solids content of 220 g / l is reached. There is added 0.75 m 3 of sulfuric acid to a pH of 3.5 (measured at room temperature). The resulting suspension is filtered with a membrane filter press and the filter cake washed with water. The filter cake with greater than 40 wt .-% solids content is then dried in a spray dryer and ground.

Die dabei angewandten Methoden sind folgende:
- – Die Bestimmung der spezifischen Stickstoff-Oberfläche (BET) erfolgt nach Brunauer-Emmet-Teller mit Hilfe der AREA-meter-Apparatur der Fa. Ströhlein. Die Bestimmung erfolgt gemäß
DIN ISO 5794/1 "Journal of the America Chemical Society", 60 (1938) Seite 309 - – Die CTAB-Oberfläche wird durch Adsorption von Cetyltrimethylammoniumbromid bei pH 9 bestimmt (s.
Jay, Janzen und Kraus in "Rubber Chemistry and Technology" 44 (1971) 1287 - – Die Teilchenverteilung wird mittels Coulter Counter, Modell TA II der Fa. Coulter Electronics, ermittelt.
Literatur:
