Description

- a) by means of the power grid, a backup battery is first charged, and
- b) the target battery is charged by means of the backup battery.
The spread of electromobility is being hampered not least by the limited range of electric vehicles. Recharging a traction battery of an electric vehicle takes time and generally requires a special charging station. Using a range extender, the range of an electric vehicle can be increased. The range extender can include a storage battery from which the electric vehicle is powered.

In order to charge the main vehicle energy storage by means of the range extender energy storage, the range extender energy storage must first be charged from a power grid. This generally requires a costly charging infrastructure, such as a charging station.
A charging station, with which an accumulator can be charged from an alternating current network, as is typically available as a public power grid, usually comprises a transformer, an AC-DC converter and a charge controller. As a result, such a charging station is generally quite expensive, has a considerable space requirement and pollutes the network intermittently by removing high charging currents. These aspects are particularly problematic when the charging station for high-voltage high-voltage batteries, such as those used to power drive motors of electric vehicles, should be used, especially during rapid charging.
Furthermore, for charging the main vehicle energy storage, the voltage level of the range extender energy storage should be above the charge voltage of the main vehicle energy storage. The range extender energy storage must therefore be rechargeable and rechargeable to a correspondingly high voltage. This will further increase the charging infrastructure requirements for the range extender energy storage.
Aufgabe der ErfindungObject of the invention
The invention has for its object to provide a simple, flexible and cost-effective method for charging, preferably fast charging, a target battery by means of a backup battery, in particular with the operational readiness of electric vehicles can be improved and a load of the feeding network can be reduced.
Kurze Beschreibung der ErfindungBrief description of the invention
This object is achieved by a method of the type described above, which is characterized in that the backup battery several,
having different interconnected battery modules, and the interconnection of the battery modules between step a) and step b) is changed,
wherein during step a) the battery modules are connected such that the buffer battery has a first voltage level that is smaller than a peak voltage of the power network,
wherein during step b) the battery modules are connected in such a way that the buffer battery has a second voltage level that is greater than the voltage level of the target battery,
and that the first voltage level of the backup battery during step a) is smaller than the second voltage level of the backup battery during step b).
By constructing the backup battery from different connectable battery modules, the requirements for a charging infrastructure for the backup battery can be significantly simplified. For charging the backup battery, the battery modules according to the invention are connected such that a voltage level of the backup battery is smaller than one Peak voltage of the power grid. This can be dispensed with a transformer for charging the backup battery. In particular, even small peak voltages (for example compared to the voltage level of the target battery) can be used for charging the battery modules of the backup battery. The peak voltage only needs to be greater than the voltage level of the individual battery modules of the backup battery.
Preferably, in step a) the first voltage level of the backup battery during at least 50% of the total charging time of the backup battery, more preferably during at least 70% of the total charging time, less than the current voltage of the power grid. The first voltage level can be changed by changing the interconnection of the battery modules, in particular if the voltage of the power supply system is variable over time or the current voltage level of the individual battery modules changes significantly during the charging process.
While in the prior art usually an adjustment of the charging voltage to the backup battery, the backup battery is adjusted by adjusting the interconnection of the battery modules to an available voltage of a power grid in the invention. This allows a substantial simplification of the charging infrastructure for the backup battery. The simplified charging infrastructure for the backup battery is based essentially on switching devices and in particular requires no transformer or conventional DC / DC converter. In particular, the simplified charging infrastructure can be integrated into the backup battery. It can then be dispensed with stationary devices for charging the backup battery; instead of a charging station only a power connection (eg a socket) is required. This significantly increases the flexibility when using the backup battery. The buffer battery according to the invention can continue to be built even as a charging station or fast charging station. In contrast to conventional charging stations, it requires only a low connection value at the mains and is nevertheless capable of fast charging due to the back-up battery.
In order to charge the target battery with the backup battery, the interconnection of the battery modules in step b) is changed such that now the second voltage level of the backup battery is greater than the voltage level of the target battery. The second voltage of the buffer battery is greater than the first voltage of the buffer battery. By serial connection of battery modules of the backup battery, the voltage levels of the battery modules add up, so that even high voltage levels of the backup battery (especially compared to the peak voltage of the power grid) can be achieved. The target battery can thereby be easily charged from the backup battery, in particular without a conventional DC / DC converter. Preferably, the second voltage of the buffer battery can be adapted to different voltage levels of different target batteries. As a result, the flexibility in the use of the backup battery can be further increased.
Typically, the second voltage level is 50% or more, preferably 100% or more, greater than the first voltage level of the backup battery. The (public) power grid typically has a peak voltage of 100 V to 400 V (or even an RMS voltage of 110-240 V) at 50-60 Hz (AC). If the voltage level of the backup battery during step a) or b) is variable, the largest first voltage level is smaller than the smallest second voltage level.
A single battery module may comprise a plurality of battery cells, wherein the battery cells may be arranged in series connection, parallel connection or a combined parallel / series circuit. The battery cells can be designed differently or preferably similar. A battery module may alternatively correspond to a single battery cell. The battery modules can be interconnected differently, in particular wherein a number of series-connected battery modules can be varied. Individual circuitry states may interconnect the battery modules or a portion of the battery modules in a series connection, a parallel connection or a combined parallel / series circuit.
State of Health, SOH).It should be noted that the terms voltage and voltage are understood here in terms of amount. A polarity-correct connection and comparison of voltage values is assumed. The voltage level of the buffer battery is the amount of instantaneous, prevailing between two terminal poles of the backup battery voltage. The (instantaneous) voltage state of the backup battery is a function of the number of battery modules connected in series, furthermore a function of the state of charge of the battery modules (SOC) and furthermore a function of the state of health of the battery modules (SOH).
Bevorzugte Varianten der ErfindungPreferred variants of the invention
In a particularly preferred variant of the method according to the invention, it is provided that the voltage level of the target battery is higher than the peak voltage of the power grid. In this situation, the voltage of the power grid can not be used directly to charge the target battery. The invention can still the voltage of the power grid for charging the target battery be used without the use of a transformer or DC / DC converter by the voltage of the buffer battery is switched. The low first voltage level is used to charge the backup battery, and the high second voltage level is used to charge the target battery. It can thus be charged without a complex charging infrastructure, a target battery whose voltage level is greater than the peak voltage of the power grid. In particular, the voltage level of the target battery can be substantially greater than the peak voltage of the power grid, for example by at least 30%, preferably at least 50%, particularly preferably at least 100% or very particularly preferably at least 200%. If the voltage level of the target battery is variable, at least one charging end voltage of the target battery is greater than the peak voltage of the power grid, preferably the voltage level of the target battery during the entire step b) is greater than the peak voltage of the power grid.
Advantageously, a variant in which it is provided that in step b) a larger number of battery modules is connected in series than in step a). As a result, it can be achieved in a simple manner that the second voltage level of the buffer battery is greater than the first voltage level. If the number of battery modules connected in series during step a) or b) is variable, the aforementioned condition applies to all times of step a) and b). Typically, all the battery modules of the backup battery are the same. For the determination of the number of battery modules connected in series, a group of battery modules connected in parallel, which is part of a series circuit, is counted like a battery module.
In a preferred variant, it is provided that the buffer battery comprises two battery modules, which are connected in parallel in step a), and are connected in series in step b). As a result, in step a) both battery modules can be charged at the same time, and in step b) the voltage levels of the two battery modules are added together.
Particularly preferred is a variant, which is characterized in that in step a) only a subset of the battery modules is charged at the same time, in particular wherein successively different subsets of the battery modules are charged. Also advantageous is a variant in which it is provided that at least during a part of step b) only a subset of the battery modules is used at the same time for charging the target battery, in particular wherein successively different subsets of the battery modules are used to charge the target battery. It can thereby be varied in each case the voltage level of the backup battery. Also, individual battery modules can be temporarily or permanently relieved, for example, if their SOH has fallen relatively sharply. Thus, in order to avoid a thermal overload of the battery modules, in succession, individual battery modules or groups of battery modules can not be used in succession. The same battery module can be involved in several subsets, especially if a subset comprises more than half of the battery modules, or the total number of battery modules of the backup battery does not correspond to an integer multiple of the number of battery modules per subset. Preferably, the battery modules not involved in the respective charging process are cyclically varied. The number of accumulator modules per subset can be variable over the course of step a) or step b); in particular, it can be reduced (several times) towards the end of step a) or increased (several times) towards the end of step b).
Particularly preferred is a further development of the two aforementioned variants, which is characterized in that a current state, in particular state of charge or aging state, of the individual battery modules is monitored, and that the instantaneous state of the individual battery modules during the connection of the battery modules during step a) and / or step b) is taken into account, in particular by individual battery modules are considered as a priority or subordinate in the compilation of subsets. It can thereby be achieved that a momentary voltage level of each individual battery module is always approximately the same size as a current voltage level of all other battery modules. A deviation between the largest and smallest momentary voltage level of two battery modules can be limited to at most 10%, preferably at most 5%, for example. In particular, even with a decrease in the voltage level of individual or all battery modules, for example due to discharge or aging, the number of battery modules connected in series can be increased in order to compensate for these effects.
Also advantageous is a variant in which over the course of step b) a number of accumulator modules connected in series is increased. This ensures that the second voltage level of the backup battery remains greater than the voltage level of the target battery, although over the course of step b) the voltage level of the target battery increases and the voltage level of the individual battery modules of the backup battery drops. In particular, a defined distance between the second voltage level of the backup battery and the voltage level of the target battery can be maintained over the entire course of step b). The second voltage level of the backup battery can be maintained, for example, in an interval of 10% to 20% above the current voltage level of the target battery.
In a preferred variant, it is provided that in step a) a charging current of the buffer battery and in step b) a charging current of the target battery is limited, in particular by pulsing the respective charging currents with regulation of a pulse length and / or a pulse frequency, preferably wherein in step a) the charging of the backup battery and in step b) the charging of the target battery with a constant current. This can be ensured in a simple manner that the battery modules of the backup battery and the target battery are not overloaded or damaged by excessively large currents. In particular, an overload or damage can be avoided even with large voltage differences. The limitation of the respective charging currents may relate to their maximum values and / or one or more time averages.
Particularly preferred is a variant characterized in that for a maximum charging current of the backup battery MLP in step a) and for a maximum charging current of the target battery MLZ in step b) applies: 5 · MLP ≤ MLZ, preferably 10 · MLP ≤ MLZ. With this variant, a target battery can be charged very quickly by means of the backup battery, even if the available power grid only allows a relatively low charging power. In particular, in target batteries in electric vehicles or range extenders for electric vehicles, the readiness of the electric vehicle after exhaustion of the target battery can be restored quickly when a charged backup battery is kept ready. The backup battery can be charged from the mains in this variant with a relatively small power, for example, at most 22 kW, preferably at most 4 kW. At the same time, the target battery with a high power, for example at least 30 kW, preferably at least 80 kW, can be charged quickly. MLP is preferably 16 A or less, so that a conventional household connection to a public power grid is not overloaded.
Also preferred is a variant in which MLP 32 A or less, or a corresponding fuse is set up with 32 A. MLZ is typically between 100A to 400A for fast charging. Alternatively, the target battery can be charged slowly, for example with a power of up to 3.5 kW or even with MLZ of 10 A or less.
In an advantageous variant, it is provided that the power grid provides an AC voltage, and that during step a) the power supply is switched to the backup battery only during phase sections in which the instantaneous mains voltage exceeds the first voltage level of the backup battery, in particular by a Reversal of the Polverschaltung after each half-wave of the mains voltage phase sections from both half-waves of the mains voltage can be used to charge the backup battery. This ensures that the backup battery is charged from the mains and no power is fed from the backup battery into the grid. Furthermore, it is possible in a simple manner to use an AC voltage network for charging the backup battery, without the interconnection of the battery modules having to be changed during a half-cycle of the AC voltage of the power supply in order to keep the first voltage level below the instantaneous mains voltage.
An alternatively advantageous variant provides that the power grid provides an AC voltage that, during step a), the AC voltage is rectified with a rectifier and smoothed with a capacitor, so that a DC voltage is obtained, which is switched to the backup battery the first voltage level of the buffer battery is smaller than this DC voltage. As a result, a change in the interconnection of the battery modules during step a) can be avoided. Also, no reversal of the Polverschaltung to take place. This variant allows a particularly uniform charging of the battery modules of the backup battery.
A preferred variant is characterized in that one or more consumers are supplied with power from the buffer battery between step a) and b) and / or after step b) in a step c), in particular wherein the battery modules are connected during step c) in that the buffer battery has a third voltage position, which differs from the first voltage position and the second voltage position. It can be opened up further uses for the backup battery. The backup battery can be used in particular for the supply of equipment, such as in the fields of consumer electronics, telecommunications or electronic data processing, with direct current. If a periodic reversal of the polarity of the buffer battery occurs during step c), the consumer or consumers can also be supplied with alternating current from backup battery.
A particularly preferred variant provides that the power grid is a three-phase alternating voltage network, and that in step a), each of the three phases is used simultaneously for charging a different part of the battery modules. This makes it possible to use three times as much charging power as with a single-phase connection to the mains. The backup battery can be charged very quickly without overloading the power grid or the battery modules.
The scope of the present invention also includes a buffer battery system, in particular for carrying out a method according to the invention explained above, comprising a buffer battery, which is characterized
that the backup battery comprises several battery modules,
in that there are further interconnection means and an electronic control device for setting the interconnection means,
and that the battery modules can be connected to one another in different ways with the switching means, so that the battery battery can be switched by changing the interconnection of the battery modules at least between a first voltage position and a second voltage position of the backup battery, wherein the first voltage position of the backup battery is smaller than the second voltage position the backup battery. By the buffer battery system can be switched at least between a first voltage level and a second voltage level, it is possible to adapt the backup battery to a current task. In particular, the backup battery can be charged to a power grid when the first voltage level is less than the peak voltage of the power grid. The backup battery system may then be used at the second voltage level to charge a target battery, wherein the second voltage level is greater than the voltage level of the target battery; In this case, in particular, the second voltage level can be greater than the peak voltage of the power grid. Likewise, the backup battery system may be used at the second voltage level to power a consumer. The backup battery system is preferably used to recharge the traction battery of an electric vehicle or the storage battery of a range extender for an electric vehicle, in particular by fast charging (with at least 80 A charging current).
An advantageous embodiment provides that the buffer battery system comprises at least one pair of connection poles, preferably two pairs of connection poles, wherein each connection pole is connected to the backup battery via a power electronic switching device, and in that the electronic control device is designed to connect the power electronic switching devices of the connection poles to open and close, in particular for in-phase coupling to a power grid and / or to adjust or limit the flow of current. This makes it possible to selectively establish an electrical connection between the backup battery and the at least one pair of terminal poles. The buffer battery can be separated from the terminal poles, in particular in phases of non-use, whereby the reliability is increased. Furthermore, the power electronic switching devices can be used to adjust or limit a current flow in or out of the backup battery. With only one pair of connection poles, this is used both for charging the backup battery from the mains and for charging the target battery or for the supply of a consumer. In the case of two pairs of connection poles, one of the pairs is typically used for charging the backup battery, and the other pair for charging a target battery or for supplying a load. It should be noted that in the case of a three-phase charging operation, three or more connecting poles can be provided for this purpose. In order to be able to set up a phase-correct coupling to the power supply using the electronic control device, one or more voltage measuring devices can be provided. In order to be able to make an adjustment or limitation of the current flow with the aid of the electronic control device, one or more current measuring devices can be provided.
A particularly preferred embodiment provides that the buffer battery system has a pair of terminal poles, wherein each of these terminal poles is connectable via two power electronic switching devices optionally with different poles of the battery modules. Thereby, the polarity of the voltage applied to the pair of terminal poles voltage of the backup battery can be reversed. This is particularly useful when the back-up battery is to be charged to an AC mains, since then both half cycles of the AC voltage can be used without the need for a rectifier.
Also advantageous is an embodiment in which it is provided that the switching means comprise a plurality of power electronic switching devices, and that the electronic control device is adapted to open and close the power electronic switching means of the interconnecting means to establish an interconnection of the battery modules, and optionally also to make a selection of active battery modules. This makes it possible to set up a suitable connection for each application of the battery modules or the selected battery modules. By power electronic switching devices and rapid changes in the interconnection are possible, possibly even several times during the period of an alternating current. The selected accumulator modules can be connected in parallel or in series; also combined parallel-series circuits are possible.
Particularly preferred is a development of this embodiment, in which it is provided that the buffer battery at least three, preferably at least five, more preferably at least ten Battery modules in a switching ring comprises, wherein between two adjacent battery modules of the switching ring each have a power electronic switching device for connecting gegengleicher poles of the adjacent battery modules is arranged, and the poles of each battery module of the switching ring individually via power electronic switching devices with terminal poles of the buffer battery system can be connected. As a result, adjacent battery modules of the switching ring can be connected in series in any number (up to the total number of battery modules of the switching ring), wherein the selection of the battery modules connected in series can be moved as desired via the switching ring, in particular to uniformly load all battery modules of the switching ring , The arrangement of the battery modules in the switching ring while a continuous circulation ("roll") of the battery modules connected in series is possible. For this purpose, a battery module can be switched off at one end of the series circuit, while at the other end of the series connection a battery module is connected.
Also advantageous is a development which provides that one or more of the power electronic switching devices each have a first switching unit, each comprising at least one semiconductor switching element, in particular a MOSFET or IGBT. With semiconductor switching elements a particularly fast and wear-free switching is possible even with large currents and voltages. Furthermore, only small control voltages are needed. Particularly advantageous MOSFETs or IGBTs can be used, the switching frequencies of a few kHz, about 5 kHz or more, preferably 10 kHz or more, more preferably 20 kHz or more, allow. Preferably, semiconductor switching elements can be used which have a reverse voltage of at least 600 V.
Particularly preferred is a further development in which it is provided that one or more of the power electronic switching devices each comprise a second switching unit connected in series with the first switching unit in addition to the first switching unit, the second switching unit each having at least one semiconductor switching element, in particular a MOSFET or IGBT , includes. The second switching unit connected in series with the first switching unit improves the reliability of the buffer battery system. If the first switching unit or the second switching unit of one of the power electronic switching devices fails low impedance (short circuit), the respective other switching unit can interrupt the flow of current through the electronic power switching device and thus ensure the safety of the backup battery system.
A further development is advantageous, which provides that the first and / or the second switching unit each comprise a plurality, preferably at least four, particularly preferably at least eight, semiconductor switching elements connected in parallel with each other. As a result, the possible current intensity of the switchable with the switching unit current is increased. The volume resistance (Rdson) of the respective switching unit is lowered when it is switched to a conducting state. The power loss in the respective switching unit can thus be reduced to the fraction corresponding to the number of parallel-connected semiconductor switching elements. In the conductive state, the individual semiconductor switching elements preferably have a contact resistance of at most 20 milliohms, particularly preferably at most 10 milliohms. Within the scope of the invention, currents of up to 250 A or even up to 400 A can flow through the switching unit.
A preferred further development is characterized in that one or more of the power electronic switching devices each comprise a mechanical relay in series with the first switching unit in addition to the first switching unit. As a result, the reliability of the buffer battery system can be further improved by means of a galvanic isolation, such as a longer shutdown of the backup battery for a repair. The mechanical relay establishes a mechanical interruption of a Stromleitpfades by the respective power electronic switching device in an open switching state. The mechanical relay only needs to be designed for current carrying capacity. Furthermore, parallel circuits can be used from a power electronic switching device and a relay to lower the contact resistance, especially when no fast switching cycles are to be executed.
In a particularly preferred embodiment, it is provided that the battery modules each have a voltage of less than 60 V, and that all power electronic switching devices are designed so that they lock in a control voltage-free state. This improves the security of use of the backup battery system. At a (maximum) voltage level of less than 60 V per battery module, for example 24 V or 48 V, it is possible to dispense with various safety precautions, such as contact protection for terminal contacts of the battery modules (low voltage range). By the power electronic switching devices go into a blocking state when no control voltage applied to them, it is ensured that not accidentally, for example, during storage of the backup battery system in a phase of non-use, multiple battery modules are interconnected and / or Battery module or multiple battery modules are connected to the terminal poles of the backup battery system. This further improves the security of use. This is particularly useful in maintenance and service, since then no voltage is applied to the entire backup battery.
An advantageous embodiment provides that all battery modules of the backup battery are formed identically. This simplifies the structure of the buffer battery system and the control of the interconnection of the battery modules.
A preferred embodiment is characterized in that the buffer battery system has two charging terminals, which are connected via a rectifier to a pair of terminal poles of the buffer battery system, in particular wherein these terminal poles are connected to a capacitor. This makes it possible to easily charge the backup battery from an AC mains. In particular, it is not necessary to react to an alternating polarity of the voltage of the AC voltage network by changing the connection of the connection poles with the battery modules or by periodically interrupting the charging current. By the capacitor, a smoothing of the DC voltage can be achieved, whereby the backup battery more uniform, d. H. with a less fluctuating charging current, can be charged.
In the context of the present invention, in addition to the application as a charging station / charging station also falls a range extender trailer for an electric vehicle, the range extender trailer comprises a buffer battery system according to the invention. With such a range extender trailer, the backup battery system can be advantageously used for charging a traction battery of an electric vehicle. In particular, the backup battery system can be carried while driving and also used while driving and / or parked for recharging the traction battery and / or while driving to power a drive motor of the electric vehicle (bypassing the traction battery). Alternatively, a backup battery may for example be kept stationary at a regular parking location of an electric vehicle, for example in or at a garage for a car, in order to be able to quickly recharge the parked electric vehicle. The recharging of the backup battery can then be done slowly from the local power grid.

Between the times t0 and t1, the first voltage level SPB1 of the buffer battery has the constant output value U0. In this time interval, no charging of the backup battery from the AC voltage network takes place, since the instantaneous mains voltage SWN is smaller or only slightly larger than the first voltage level SPB1 of the backup battery. The alternating voltage of the alternating voltage network is switched to the buffer battery only at the time t1, where the instantaneous mains voltage SWN of the alternating voltage network is significantly greater (here about 20%) than the initial value U0 of the first voltage level SPB1 of the backup battery.
At time t2, the backup battery is disconnected from the AC mains again. The instantaneous mains voltage SWN of the AC voltage network then drops and reaches the value zero at a time t3. At time t3, a second half cycle of the course of the instantaneous mains voltage SWN of the AC voltage network begins. The instantaneous mains voltage SWN of the alternating voltage network is less than zero during the second half-wave, between the times t3 and t6. Therefore, a reversal of the pole connection is made at the time t3, so that a profile of the mirrored instantaneous voltage SWN 'is obtained. The mirrored instantaneous voltage SWN 'is thus available as a positive voltage for charging the backup battery during the second half-cycle.
At a time t4, the magnitude of the mirrored instantaneous voltage SWN 'is again sufficiently greater than the first intermediate value U1 of the first voltage level SPB1 of the buffer battery. The backup battery is therefore re-connected to the AC mains for charging. Between the time t4 and a time t5, the first voltage level SPB1 of the buffer battery thereby rises from the first intermediate value U1 to a second intermediate value U2. (Note that the increase in turn is shown greatly exaggerated.) At time t5, the backup battery is disconnected from the AC mains, since the mirrored instantaneous voltage SWN 'of the AC mains is only slightly greater than the second intermediate value U2 of the first voltage level SPB1 of the backup battery ,
At time t6, the second half cycle of the course of the instantaneous mains voltage SWN of the AC voltage network ends. It can then be made a new reversal of the Polverschaltung to continue to charge the backup battery with the subsequent, next first half-wave of the instantaneous mains voltage SWN of the AC voltage network. A charging of the backup battery is possible as long as the value of the first voltage level SPB1 of the backup battery is less than a peak voltage USP of the AC voltage network.
During the charging of the backup battery between the times t1 and t2 and between the times t4 and t5, a charging current of the backup battery can be limited by a Connection of the backup battery to the AC mains is interrupted and produced in rapid succession. Power electronic switching devices of connection poles of the backup battery can be opened and closed at high frequency for this purpose. This creates a pulsed charging current.

At time t11, the backup battery is switched to the second four battery modules. As a result, the first voltage level SPB1 of the buffer battery drops back to the initial value U10. Up to a time t12, the second four battery modules are then charged, so that the voltage level SPB1 of the buffer battery rises again to the first intermediate value U11.
At time t12, the backup battery is switched to the third four battery modules. As a result, the first voltage position SPB1 again drops to the initial value U10. Until a time t13, the third four accumulator modules are then charged to the first intermediate value U11. This procedure is continued until all 28 accumulator modules have been charged once in sub-sets of four accumulator modules.
It can then be re-run in subsets of four battery modules. If the voltage difference between the DC voltage SGN and the first voltage level SPB1 of the backup battery is no longer sufficiently large when four battery modules are connected in series, the number of battery modules to be connected in series at the same time can be reduced.
In step b), a target battery is then charged from the backup battery. The target battery has a voltage level SZB, which here at a time t20 is greater by a differential voltage DS than the DC voltage SGN with which the backup battery was charged during step a). The differential voltage DS is here about 80% of the DC voltage SGN. In order to load the target battery from the backup battery, twelve battery modules of the backup battery are connected in series here, so that the backup battery has a second voltage level SPB2, the second voltage level SPB2 of the backup battery is greater than the voltage level SZB of the target battery. At time t20, all the battery modules of the backup battery have the same state of charge.
Between the time t20 and a time t21, the target battery is charged with the first twelve battery modules of the buffer battery. The voltage level SPB2 of the backup battery drops from an initial value U20 to a second intermediate value U21. At the time t21 is then switched to the second twelve battery modules of the backup battery. The second voltage level SPB2 of the buffer battery is then initially at the initial value U20 and decreases until the time t22 to the second intermediate value U21.
At the time t22 then only four battery modules with the initial state of charge are available. Therefore, from the time t22, the last four battery modules of the backup battery and the first eight battery modules of the backup battery are used to charge the target battery. Since the first eight battery modules have already been used to charge the target battery, the second voltage level SPB2 of the buffer battery is now at the third intermediate value U22, which is between the initial value U20 and the second intermediate value U21. Until a time t23, the second voltage level SPB2 of the backup battery then drops to the fourth intermediate value U23.
The voltage level SZB of the target battery increases continuously during the entire charging process of step b). In order to keep the difference between the second voltage level SPB2 of the backup battery and the voltage level SZB of the target battery sufficiently large, the number of battery modules connected in series is now increased from twelve to thirteen from the time t23; This increases SPB2 at t23 by about 8% to U24.
For further charging of the target battery, more battery modules of the backup battery can be used in series as a result after t24. As a result, the second voltage level SPB2 of the backup battery can be maintained at a value above the voltage level SZB of the target battery become. In this way, the target battery can be charged up to a charge voltage of 400 V here.
