Abstract
The invention relates to a method for determining the tensile strength of a welded material (A), which has at least a ferritic microstructure and a carbon content of at most 0.02%. In this case, a regression line is created from respective reference transformation start temperatures and respective reference tensile strengths of the respective reference weld metal. This regression line is used to determine the tensile strength of a weld metal (7). For this purpose, only a temperature-time profile of the weld metal (7) is measured and determines the conversion start temperature for a ferritic or bainitic microstructure transformation of the weld metal (7). Description
The invention relates to a method and a measuring arrangement for determining the tensile strength of a welded material, wherein the material has at least one ferritic microstructure and a carbon content of at most 0.02% by weight.
It is apparent from the well-known state of the art that the mechanical properties, in particular the tensile strength, of a material decrease with increasing microstructure transformation starting temperature, in particular bainite starting temperature. In other words, a heat-treated material whose structural transformation starts from an austenitic to a bainitic structure at higher temperatures has a lower tensile strength than the same material whose structural transformation begins from an austenitic to a bainitic structure at lower temperatures.

Ferner geht aus der Druckschrift AKSELSEN, O. M., et al. Assessment and predictions of HAZ tensile properties of high-strangth steels. Weld. J., 1989, 68. Furthermore, the publication AKSELSEN, OM, et al. Assessment and predictions of HAZ tensile properties of high-strand steels. Weld. J., 1989, 68th Ed., No. 9, p. 356 discloses a method of determining the tensile strength of a welded material. The tensile strength is shown as a function of different cooling rates. Decisive is the respective t 8/5 time span. The t 8/5 time span is the period during which the weld and adjacent heat-affected zone cools from 800 ° C to 500 ° C. In this time interval, the most important microstructural transformations take place in steel, which essentially determine the properties of the respective steel. Especially at high cooling rates, where the t 8/5 period is less than 30 seconds, a significant difference in the tensile strength of the welded steels was noted.
In the case of the welding technology processing of construction materials, the fundamental problem arises that the statement about the quality of the weld obtained by non-destructive testing methods can not be conclusive for the properties of the weld seam. Only by a destructive test in particular mechanical properties of the weld can be determined safely.
As a central parameter for the prediction and adjustment of mechanical properties in weld metal and heat-affected zone when welding steel materials, the t8 / 5 concept is often used. For this purpose, the time for a cooling from 800 ° C to 500 ° C is determined. The t8 / 5 concept allows a characterization of the path energy introduced by the welding process as well as the cooling conditions to be set by the accompanying heat transfer and represents a good correlation to the expected toughness and strength values. It is therefore possible to make a statement for a certain material to meet the mechanical properties based on the processing parameters. However, a general material-independent correlation does not allow for the t8 / 5 concept.
Typically, prior to commencement of a weld, a welding procedure test is performed in which trial welding is performed under component-like conditions such as equal sheet thickness, material and welding parameters, and then subjected to destructive testing. The welding procedure test is used to qualify the welding instruction. When creating the welding instruction, the t8 / 5 time is usually calculated and compared with the data sheet of the material manufacturer with regard to the permissible t8 / 5 range. Real t8 / 5 time is measured by thermocouples or pyrometers to ensure compliance with the processing window. Since it is only possible to roughly estimate whether the mechanical properties are within a usable interval, this method only allows the avoidance of gross handling errors.
The object of the present invention is to provide a method and an associated measuring arrangement, with the non-destructive tensile strength of a welded material, which has at least a ferritic microstructure and a carbon content of at most 0.02%, can be estimated.
The object is solved by the subject matters of
The method according to the invention for determining the tensile strength of a welded material which has at least one ferritic microstructure and a carbon content of at most 0.02% essentially comprises the following method steps.
First, several reference welds are produced by welding a respective reference material having at least a ferritic microstructure and a carbon content of at most 0.02%. Consequently, the respective Reference materials have different alloy contents and other structures. All that matters is that at least part of the microstructure is ferritic, and that the carbon content is at most 0.02% by weight.
The respective reference weld metal is then cooled in a controlled manner with different cooling rates for generating a respective reference temperature-time profile for the respective reference weld metal. Consequently, different reference temperature / time profiles result from the different cooling of the reference weld metal.
During cooling, the determination of a respective reference transformation start temperature for a ferritic or bainitic microstructure transformation of the respective reference weld metal takes place. Depending on the alloy composition and cooling rate, it is possible that the microstructure after cooling has no bainitic portion and thus, for example, has a ferritic-perlitic structure. Likewise, it is also conceivable that the structure is formed after cooling ferritic-bainitic or bainitic-martensitic. Therefore, either the transformation start temperature is determined for a ferritic or bainitic microstructure transformation of the respective reference weld metal.
This is followed by determining a respective reference tensile strength of the respective reference weld metal. To determine the respective reference tensile strength, a sample, in particular a round sample, of the respective reference weld metal with the respective reference transformation start temperature is formed. This sample is then preferably tested in a tensile test. Consequently, the determination of the reference tensile strength is carried out by a destructive test of the respective sample of the respective reference weld metal in the tensile test.
This is followed by the creation of a regression line from the respective reference transformation start temperatures and the respective reference tensile strengths of the respective reference weldments. This regression line therefore results from all reference weldments and is intended to determine the tensile strength of a welded material having at least a ferritic microstructure and a carbon content of at most 0.02%.
For this purpose, a weld metal is first produced by at least melting the material, which has at least one ferritic microstructure and a carbon content of at most 0.02%. Alternatively, it is also conceivable to produce the weld metal not only by melting the material but by melting the material and melting a filler metal in a common molten bath. The welding filler can be supplied to the welding process in the form of a wire, strip or powder. Although the chemical composition of the welding filler may differ from the base metal, it is provided by mixing the molten base metal with the welding filler to produce a ferritic or ferritic-martensitic or ferritic-bainitic weld metal. The filler contains at most 0.02% carbon, 1.6% silicon, 3% manganese, 8% nickel, 2% chromium and 1% molybdenum.
After the melting of the material, the measurement of a temperature-time course of the weld metal takes place. The measurement of the temperature-time profile of the weld metal takes place in particular via a pyrometer or a thermocouple. The pyrometer preferably has a sampling rate of less than 10 ms and is tuned with respect to its measurement wavelength range on the surface of the solidified steel material, so that a relevant temperature range of 800 ° C to 300 ° C is detected. In particular, a focus diameter of the pyrometer is smaller than the weld seam width, wherein the focus diameter is aligned with the region of the material to be examined. As thermocouples thermocouples types K, R, S can be used, whose individual wires have a thickness of less than 1 mm. The thermocouples are preferably immersed by means of a ceramic sleeve manually in the molten bath or fixed before welding, in particular by resistance spot welding on the workpiece surface.
After that, a Transformation start temperature determined for a ferritic or bainitic microstructure transformation of the weld metal. Preferably, a breakpoint in the cooling curve of the weld metal is used for this purpose. Particularly preferred for this purpose is a difference temperature curve. Here, an exponential function is superimposed on the basis of the measured temperature curve by regression calculation, which has no breakpoint. A difference between the two curves makes it possible to read the conversion start temperature for a ferritic or bainitic microstructure transformation of the weld metal.
Finally, the regression line determined using the reference weld metal is used to determine the tensile strength of the weld metal non-destructively. The implementation, in particular a tensile test to determine the tensile strength is therefore unnecessary. From the measured reference values and the linear regression function developed therefrom, the tensile strength of the weld metal is determined by measuring the transformation start temperature for a ferritic or bainitic microstructure transformation of the weld metal. Thus, an immediate statement about the tensile strength of a weld metal is possible.
