Description
The invention relates to a battery arrangement with a motor vehicle battery and an electrical protection circuit and a method for monitoring a motor vehicle battery by means of an electrical protection circuit according to the preambles of the independent claims.
Motor vehicle batteries known from the prior art, in particular HV batteries, typically have a plurality of lithium ion cells connected in series and optionally in parallel, which can be monitored by monitoring electronics. In addition, this cell network can be coupled via contactors with motor vehicle components. If the monitoring electronics detect an improper operating state of the battery, it is possible to disconnect the cell assembly from the vehicle by opening the contactors. However, the thermal energy in the cells caused by an error case such as a short circuit, cell aging, cell chemical stress by introduction of foreign particles, etc. remains in the battery. The additional thermal stress causes a constant stress on cell chemistry. In the worst case, this additional stress can lead to irreversible damage to the cell. Such damage can mean, for example, the opening of the cell and the escape of electrolyte. Due to the thermal coupling of all cells, a so-called thermal event can not be ruled out. The thermal event means that due to the energy release of one cell, all adjacent cells experience the same thermal stress and in turn are stimulated to release energy, for example by leakage of electrolyte. In the case of electrolyte leakage is easy to expect fire and the escape of toxic, lethal gases, which of course represents a state of avoiding a lithium-ion battery.
It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a battery arrangement and a method for monitoring a motor vehicle battery, by means of which an improvement with regard to the avoidance of critical states of a motor vehicle battery is made possible.
This object is achieved by a battery assembly and a method for monitoring a motor vehicle battery according to the independent claims. Advantageous embodiments of the invention can be found in the dependent claims.
The battery arrangement according to the invention has a motor vehicle battery and an electrical contactor circuit, which is coupled to at least one battery cell of the motor vehicle battery. Furthermore, the electrical protection circuit has an input and an output, which are coupled to the at least one battery cell, a load resistor and a switching device with a first switching state and a second switching state. In the first switching state of the switching device, the input is electrically conductively coupled to the output via the load resistor, and in the second switching state of the switching device, the input and the output are not electrically conductively coupled via the load resistor. The invention is characterized in that the switching device is switchable in response to a temperature from the second to the first switching state. This advantageously makes it possible to discharge the battery or individual battery cells, not only in the event of a motor vehicle accident, but depending on the temperature. Just the temperature represents the size that provides information about the thermal state of the battery or the individual battery cells, and thus provides information about critical conditions. For example, a thermally excited cell, whose temperature exceeds a certain limit, can be discharged automatically and in a targeted manner, and thus a critical state can be prevented. Also, this can limit the thermal coupling of the cells and prevent a thermal event.
In an advantageous embodiment of the invention, the protection circuit has a control circuit for controlling the switching device, wherein the control circuit comprises a thermistor which is adapted to change its associated electrical resistance as a function of temperature, wherein the control circuit is further arranged such that at a predetermined resistance value of the electrical resistance of the thermistor, which is predetermined for a predetermined limit temperature, the control circuit switches the switching means from the second state to the first state. By providing a thermistor, that is, a temperature-dependent resistor, such as a PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient), the protection circuit can be made particularly simple and inexpensive, since no complex and expensive temperature sensors are required. Through the thermistor, the cell heating can be used directly as a control variable to the load circuit with the load resistance directly to the To switch cell. The switching device can be designed, for example, as a relay, which can thus be controlled in a simple manner by a control circuit.
In a further advantageous embodiment of the invention, the at least one battery cell on two poles, wherein the input and output of the protection circuit is coupled to one of the two poles of the at least one battery cell. As a result, the battery cells of the battery can advantageously be individually monitored and discharged in an emergency. For this purpose, several of the protective circuits described may be prescribed, which are each coupled to a single battery cell. If the temperature of a battery cell exceeds the predetermined limit temperature, this battery cell is purposefully discharged. A discharge of the entire battery is thus not required and it is thus provided a much better situation adaptation.
In a further advantageous embodiment of the invention, the battery assembly comprises a battery housing, in which the motor vehicle battery and the electrical protection circuit are arranged. In this way, the battery assembly can be made very compact.
The invention further relates to a method for monitoring a motor vehicle battery by means of an electrical protection circuit having an input and an output, which are coupled to at least one battery cell of the motor vehicle battery, wherein the protection circuit further comprises a load resistor and a switching device having a first switching state and a second Has switching state. In the first switching state of the switching device, the input is electrically conductively coupled to the output via the load resistor, and in the second switching state of the switching device, the input and the output are not electrically conductively coupled via the load resistor. Furthermore, the switching device is switched as a function of a temperature from the second to the first switching state. The energy content of a lithium-ion battery is fundamentally defined by the number of lithium ion cells connected in series and possibly in parallel (or their chemical variants). In the following, only the serial connection of cells representing a cell group is to be considered. Furthermore, this means that in each case one anode (positive pole) of the low-energy cell is connected to a cathode (negative pole) of the higher-energy cell.
