In the context of the invention is an electric energy storage module in particular a battery module to build a rechargeable battery, ie an accumulator, in particular a traction battery for a motor vehicle with electric or hybrid drive to understand, which is composed of several such electrically interconnected modules.
In electrically driven vehicles (battery electric vehicles as well as plug-in hybrid vehicles with combustion and electric motor) are nowadays used as electrical energy storage (EES) often based on lithium chemistry accumulators (rechargeable batteries), as these compared to nickel or lead-based Representatives of their kind have the largest available energy density at the lowest weight. These batteries require a life of 15 years. However, the requirements are different than those for batteries of mobile phones or notebooks. After all, automotive battery systems are subject to very high requirements with regard to usable energy content, discharge capacity, charge / discharge efficiency, service life and reliability.
The trouble-free operation of the battery systems mentioned above requires the safe and reliable operation of the cells, modules and the whole pack. To achieve this, the battery system must be kept within a certain temperature range, both by cooling and by heating. For this purpose, both air and liquid cooling are known.
Liquid cooling systems for traction batteries in motor vehicles are constructed according to the prior art as a separate cooling circuit independently of the cooling circuit of the internal combustion engine of a hybrid vehicle. As a fluid of this liquid cooling of the traction battery water-based coolant (water-glycol mixture) are used.
Since the housing of the battery cells used is at the potential of one of the two cell poles or floating at a potential between the two poles, the cell housing must be mounted electrically isolated from each other and the cooling plate. If the insulation is broken, it may cause self-discharge or even short circuits within the battery. The electrical insulation inevitably worsens the thermal contact and thus the effectiveness of the tempering.
In addition, condensation may occur on the cooling plates and the cooled cells, so the cell insulation must also be moisture resistant, or additional measures must be taken in the battery system to keep the humidity within the battery low over life.
The heat dissipation or heat supply is realized by battery system-external components such as a radiator, a so-called chiller connected to the air conditioning compressor of the system, and an electrical heating device (based on a PTC thermistor). Both heater and air conditioning compressor are powered by high-voltage system of traction battery. Since the optimum cell temperature is around 35 ° C, battery cooling via the chiller is less frequently used than the heating element, at least in temperate latitudes.
Offenbarung der ErfindungDisclosure of the invention
The electrical energy storage module according to the invention with the features mentioned in
In the energy storage module according to the invention, it is provided that this energy storage module further comprises a housing housing the at least one memory cell, the heater and the at least one channel of the channel system, wherein the at least one memory cell and the heater are each encapsulated fluid-tight, the module housing is designed fluid-tight and at least a part of the at least one channel is bounded by the heating device and the at least one memory cell.
Der Wärmetransport erfolgt also direkt ab den jeweiligen Wärmequellen (Speicherzelle bzw. Heizung) per Konvektion. The heat transfer is thus directly from the respective heat sources (storage cell or heating) by convection.
- • it is possible to dispense with a module-external component "auxiliary heater" in the cooling circuit of the electric energy store constructed from the modules,
- • due to the heater built into the module, the heating / heating capacity scales with the size of the battery.
The module housing is advantageously a multi-part module housing, for example a box-shaped module housing with a removable cover.
At least parts of the channel system are thus formed directly from the at least one memory cell and the heating device. The channel system can consist of only one channel, but preferably has several channels. By means of the channel systems of the modules, a heating and / or cooling circulation system is formed, at least at the level of the modular energy accumulator.
In particular, it is provided in the energy storage module according to the invention that the fluid is an electrically insulating fluid, for example an electrically insulating oil. So it is the use of an electrically insulating fluid provided for in the channel system of the energy storage.
The result is a modular principle that using non-conductive fluid as a heat transport means (in particular coolant), e.g. an oil used in stationary plants that cools memory cells and at the same time achieves large-area cooling of the cells as in air cooling, bypassing the problems of soiling and condensation (and the associated large creepage distances) or the problems of leaks in a water-based coolant. Due to the higher heat capacity of a fluid, the volume flow around the cell may be lower than with air cooling, whereby the distances between the cells may be smaller and thus the volumetric energy density greater than in air-cooled modules. Cost-intensive and error-prone single-cell isolation can be dispensed with since the memory cells no longer come into contact with each other or with metallic parts. Due to the structure presented here can also be dispensed with a separate housing for the entire energy storage, the modules and associated module connector can be integrated directly into the vehicle.
Thus, a cost-intensive electrical cell insulation and an energy storage pack housing of the energy accumulator constructed from the modules can thus advantageously be dispensed with altogether. This results in an extremely increased flexibility in the vehicle integration of the energy storage, elimination of the possibility of error fluid leakage into the energy storage (the battery pack), eliminating the possibility of error insulation fault due to condensation, elimination of the possibility of error insulation fault due to ingress of water from the outside (flood, spilled liquid in the trunk , ...), fault tolerance to conductive particles.
According to an advantageous embodiment of the invention, it is provided that a heat transfer between the heating device and the at least one memory cell takes place with fluid-filled channel system essentially via this fluid.
According to a further advantageous embodiment of the invention, at least one further part of the at least one channel is delimited by the module housing and the at least one memory cell and / or by the module housing and the heating device.
- A predominant part of the outer surface of the at least one memory cell,
- - A major part of the outer surface of the heater and
- - A predominant part of the inner surface of the module housing is in direct contact with the fluid. Similar to an air-cooled energy storage module, the storage cells are held by the spacer elements with a certain distance (less than air cooling) from each other.
Overall, the channel system within the energy storage module is thus formed substantially directly by the components module housing, memory cell (s), heater and spacer elements. The channel systems of the individual modules can then be connected via external fluid Connections of the modules are connected to a tempering circuit (heating and / or cooling circuit) of the electrical energy storage.
According to another advantageous embodiment of the invention, it is provided that the heating device is an electrical heating device with a PTC device (PTC element: English Positive Temperature Coefficient) as the heating element, the heating device being supplied with electrical energy via the at least one memory cell ,
In this case, the electrical heating device preferably has at least one current path with a series connection of a component with temperature-independent electrical resistance and the PTC thermistor component. The use of PTC components for heating energy storage is known.
In this case, provision is made in particular for the heating device to have a device for measuring the voltage drop across the component with temperature-independent electrical resistance. This device can be considered as a shunt resistor. The voltage is thus substantially proportional to the current flowing through the heating element.
According to a further advantageous embodiment of the invention, it is provided that the energy storage module further comprises a module controller (a control, and / or regulating device of the energy storage module), which is configured, the voltage signal of the voltage across the device with temperature-independent electrical resistance voltage to use both for temperature monitoring and / or control as well as for error analysis, in particular for detecting insufficient fluid filling.

It is also possible to divide the BDU and integrate the BDU components into the module connector elements. Thus, a module terminating element with integrated contactor and possibly a current sensor is conceivable. The interruption of the series electrical connection in the middle, in addition to the separation at the ends is thus feasible, e.g. if this should be required for a distributed across the vehicle battery system.
By laying the HV conductor in the coolant hose double or reinforced insulation of the module connector is realized, allowing a "free" installation in the vehicle.
A battery system that is constructed from such modules, since the module connector and possibly the signal interface are constructed protected against contact, without HV training (possibly only in the vehicle) are assembled, there is no work under tension necessary.
The battery system, which is completed by all module connectors and consists of freely mountable modules, can be set up sufficiently for protection class IP5k9k or 1P67. Protection against mechanical action (for example, rockfall) can either be provided in the module (by appropriate mechanical design of the trough) or by the vehicle body.
The design and integration of the battery into the vehicle gains thereby and that the battery system only in the vehicle from the building blocks to be set together modules must be completed and gets along without additional battery housing, enormous freedom.

The heating element has PTC characteristics, so it has a higher electrical resistance (PTC thermistor) with increasing temperature. The resistance values of the heating element must be adapted to the module parameters (cell number, cell type, required heating time).

The accumulating energy storage or coolant heating can be dissipated in the entire system if necessary via a radiator or a heat exchanger connected to an air-conditioning compressor / heat pump.
Prior art differential state of charge circuits are implemented on a single cell basis only and are sized to compensate for less than 0.3% SOC per hour.
With the use of the module heating presented here, depending on the design of the system, e.g. 5% SOC per hour possible. An overnight charging process in which the module heater works "against" the heat exchanger / air conditioning compressor can in most cases be sufficient to ensure that the system is almost completely available in terms of range.

If the temperature coefficient is sufficiently high in the temperature range below the non-linearity transition temperature, a temperature measurement of the heating element can be carried out. If the last activation of the heating element is long enough and the volume flow of the coolant is high enough, a conclusion on the cell temperatures is possible, e.g. as a redundant determination of the energy storage temperature.
Due to the short activation time of the heating element, the filling level determination can also be carried out cyclically in the driving cycle at the beginning of each driving cycle. In the case of a very low charge state, it is advisable to deactivate this diagnostic functionality or to perform it only when the charge current is detected.
