Magnetic inductive flowmeters use the Faraday law of induction to determine the flow velocity of a fluid flowing through a measuring tube of the flow meter. A magnetic field is generated in the measuring tube perpendicular to the flow direction. In this magnetic field, electric charges transported with the fluid generate a voltage perpendicular to the magnetic field and to the direction of flow, which can be removed by means of electrodes. The measured voltage determined in this way is ideally proportional to the flow velocity of the medium through the measuring tube. Such flow meters have to maintain largely constant geometric dimensions to ensure the accuracy of measurement regardless of the prevailing pressure of the medium flowing through. This compressive strength is often achieved by a measuring tube made of steel, through which the fluid flows. On the other hand, this measuring tube must not interfere with the electric and magnetic fields that pass through the fluid in the region of a measuring section. For this reason liners or inserts are used in the measuring tube, which are typically made of ceramic, rubber or plastic materials. These meet the requirements of being electrically non-conductive and hardly influencing the magnetic field. However, the variants mentioned are associated with a relatively high production cost.

The invention has for its object to provide a magnetic inductive flow meter, which is characterized due to greater possibilities in terms of the design of the magnetic field by improved measurement accuracy and / or a relatively low production cost.
To solve this problem, the new electromagnetic flowmeter of the type mentioned in the stated in the characterizing part of
The invention has the advantage that due to the use of carbon nanotubes for coil production and their arrangement in a tubular, flowed through by the medium composite part, the magnetic field in the medium can be made more flexible and effective than before. This is achieved, on the one hand, by the fact that carbon nanotubes, because of their better electrical conductivity than copper, make it possible to realize thinner turns. The windings can therefore be arranged in high local concentration and it can be realized coils with higher number of turns. On the other hand, the small thickness of carbon nanotubes allows a smaller bending radius when laying the electrical conductors. Thus, many of the coil shape limitations associated with previous use of copper wire as the conductor material for the coils have been eliminated.
It is also advantageous that coils made with carbon nanotubes can now be arranged very close to the media flow. This further increases the flexibility in designing the magnetic field. Because the desired design The magnetic field can be obtained alone by suitable arrangement and shape of the coils, pole shoes or additional components made of magnetically conductive materials, the use of which was previously required to design the magnetic field with copper-made coils, no longer necessary. The new flowmeter is therefore characterized by less effort in the production.
The increasing use of carbon nanotubes as an electrically conductive material in industrial applications also leads to a further reduction in the cost of carbon nanotubes, which, if the respective current carrying capacity is based, can already be cheaper than copper wire.
With particularly low production costs, an embodiment of the flow meter is connected, in which the coils are produced by means of a printing process on and / or in the composite component
In the production of the composite component, carbon nanotubes used to produce the coils can be inserted in an advantageous alternative or supplement as bundles in prefabricated recesses of a carrier material. In this case, the carrier material of the composite component itself can be realized, for example, as a composite of polyethylene and carbon nanotubes. Furthermore, it is possible to admix the carbon nanotubes for improving the mechanical properties of, for example, a plastic material used as a carrier material. As a result, the resilience and strength of the plastic can be significantly increased. It is of course important to ensure that the due to the admixture of carbon nanotubes become electrically conductive areas of the plastic over the coils made with carbon nanotubes are separated by electrically non-conductive regions of the plastic or by another insulating material. In addition, in this case, an electrically insulating coating is provided on the inside of the composite component through which the medium flows, so that the measurement of the voltage induced in the medium is not disturbed.
Alternatively to the realization of coils with bundled carbon nanotubes, these can be realized with carbon nanotubes, which are in the form of fibers or nanogarns as individual conductors or in the form of mats in which the fibers or nanogarn are arranged in a specific structure Embedded, flowed through by the medium composite part. Thus, almost any geometry of the coils can be realized and the magnetic field generated by the coils can be designed very flexible.
A particularly good mechanical stability of the composite component is achieved when the coils made with carbon nanotubes are adjacent on at least one side to form a layer of glass fiber material. The glass fiber material can advantageously be designed so that it provides a largely direction-independent improvement of the mechanical stability.
In a particularly advantageous embodiment of the invention, the coils, which are manufactured on the basis of carbon nanotubes, embedded in different layers of the composite component. This further improves the flexibility in the design of the magnetic field.
The mechanical strength of the measuring tube, if not already alone by the composite component for the particular application of the flow meter is sufficient to be improved by using a jacket tube made of non-magnetic material, in which the composite component is inserted in the manner of a tubular insert. The dimensional stability can be additionally improved by bonding the composite component to the jacket tube or by casting a possibly remaining between the two components cavity.
Advantageously, the production costs associated with the measuring tube can be further reduced if the electrode arrangement has electrodes made of carbon nanotubes as electrically conductive material, which are likewise embedded in the composite component. As a result, subsequent assembly of the electrodes in the composite component is no longer necessary.
