Abstract
In order to investigate impurities in gas flows, an isokinetic sampling is carried out. In isokinetic sampling, a partial flow is drawn off. In the case of isokinetic sampling, it must be ensured that the flow velocity of the extracted partial flow during sampling is equal to the flow velocity of the main flow. This type of sampling requires a high technical effort. With the new method, a statement about the quality and the quantity of contamination in a gas flow should be made reliably and with little technical effort. In the new process, the entire volume flow is passed through a sampling system and the following processing steps are carried out successively: Quantitative extraction of particles, wherein the particles are impurities from the volume flow and the extracted number of particles is a measure of the impurity; Reduction of the volume flow; Determination of the gaseous impurities of the volume flow; Determination of the temperature of the volume flow; Generating a laminar flow of the volume flow; Determination of the flow velocity of the volume flow and calculation of the volume of the considered volume flow; Escape of the volume flow into the environment. Determination of the particulate and gaseous pollutants of the bleed air of aircraft engines.
Description
The invention relates to a method for determining particulate and gaseous contaminants in a gas flow. Impurities can be solid or liquid suspended particles, so-called aerosols, which are transported with the gas flow.
From the civilian and military operations are reports of smell of oil in the cabin air or oil deposits in front of the compressor stage of the engine known. The flight operations management of Lufthansa AG has identified the problem in employee letters (19.06.2009) and described it as critical. Metrological detection and subsequent assessment of such an incident, however, has not yet been successful. Because in order to be able to measure particulate and gaseous impurities in a gas flow (bleed air), a very complex sampling would have to be prepared with several pumps and a wide variety of filter and absorption media.
The invention is based on the object to provide a method for the determination of particulate and gaseous impurities in a gas flow, with the reliable and with little technical effort a statement can be made about the quality and the quantity of contamination.
The object is achieved by the features of claim 1.
The advantages of the invention are that it is possible to make a quantitative and qualitative statement about the contamination of a gas flow with little technical effort and high precision. The method can be applied to an apparatus small enough for stationary use. Thus, at any time the quality of a gas flow, z. B. the bleed air of an aircraft engine, are controlled.
- a. Quantitative extraction of particles, where the particles are impurities from the volume flow and the extracted number of particles is a measure of the impurity. The quantitative extraction of particles, that is, the sampling of the aerosol phase is located at the beginning of the sampling system. Thus, it is advantageous to avoid the loss of aerosols on the wall of the components located further back in the system. In the later laboratory analysis of the particulate impurities, a low detection limit can thus be achieved, since the volume of air is relatively large. This is advantageous for impurities with very low limits.
- b. Reduction of the volume flow to a level which ensures that the previously collected aerosols are not entrained with the flow again. Because at too high flow velocities there is the risk of a subsequent loss of part of the sample.
- c. Determination of gaseous impurities by separating a gas sample and analyzing it in a suitable manner.
- d. Determining the temperature of the volume flow, which is used to determine the flow velocity.
- e. Generation of a laminar flow of the volume flow. A laminar flow is advantageous in order to determine the determination of the flow velocity in the further process.
- f. Determination of the flow velocity of the volume flow and calculation of the volume of the volumetric flow considered. With knowledge of the considered gas volume and of the particulate and gaseous contamination determined in the previous process steps, a qualitative and quantitative statement about the particulate and gaseous contamination of the gas flow can be made.
- G. Escape of the volume flow into the environment, thus prevails at the end-side opening ambient pressure. This has the advantage that only a negligible overpressure prevails in the area behind the orifice in the sampling system. Thus, direct reading measuring devices can be connected.
According to one embodiment of the invention, the sampling system is a hollow cylinder having a defined diameter and a defined length, with which the method is carried out according to claim 1. In the hollow cylinder can advantageously be arranged space-saving all necessary equipment. Thus, the method is applicable in the smallest space.
According to a further embodiment of the invention, the hollow cylinder has an inlet and an end opening to the environment. The inlet absorbs the entire gas flow and can be adapted to the local conditions. As a result, the method is also applicable to previously complicated sites. Another advantage is that through the end opening to the environment only a negligible overpressure prevails behind the aperture. Thus, it is possible to connect directly indicating measuring instruments, which normally have to be pressurized, behind the sampling of the gas phase.
According to a further embodiment of the invention, the sampling system comprises a filter, a diaphragm, a gas sampling unit, a temperature measuring unit, a flow rectifier and a flow velocity measuring unit to carry out the method according to claim 1. Advantageously, the scope of the measurement technique is thus very low and the structure of the sampling system kept simple and inexpensive.
Dabei zeigt:An embodiment of the invention will be explained in more detail with reference to a schematic drawing. Showing:
Die
- g. Entweichung des Volumenstroms in die Umgebung.
- a. Quantitative extraction of particles, whereby the particles impurities from the
volume flow 3 and the extracted number of particles is a measure of contamination. Thevolume flow 3 , in this example, accordingly, the bleed air is through afilter 5 guided. Thefilter 5 can be a quartz fiber filter, which is characterized by a high temperature stability and chemical purity. To stabilize the quartz fiber filter sufficiently, it lies on a stainless steel perforated plate (not shown), which is provided with sufficient holes. Between the quartz fiber filter and the stainless steel perforated plate is a very loose support tile, z. B. a glass fiber fleece (not shown) inserted. This support fleece causes the quartz fiber filter does not lie directly on the stainless steel perforated plate, otherwise the bleed air would flow through the quartz fiber filter only at the point where the holes in the stainless steel perforated plate are. This would result in mechanical damage to the quartz fiber filter at higher flow rates. After the bleed air has flowed through the quartz fiber filter after a defined period of time, it is removed and analyzed in the laboratory. To thefilter 5 From the sampling system to remove or replace, thedouble flange 11a open. - b. Reduction of the
volume flow 3 the bleed air so that the collected particulate impurities remain on the quartz fiber filter. The reduction of the volume flow has the consequence that the flow velocity is also reduced. To thevolume flow 3 to reduce is adiaphragm 6 used. Theaperture 6 Here is a pinhole with a centered opening. The use of a pinhole also has the advantage that in the embodiment used, the flow resistance is simulated, which represents the Environmental Control System in a real aircraft. Theaperture 6 is interchangeable. This has the advantage that theaperture 6 the measurement can be adjusted. Advantageously, theaperture 6 by opening and closing thedouble flange 11c replaced. - c. Determine the gaseous contamination of the volumetric flow by placing it immediately after the orifice
6 agas sampling unit 7 performs a measurement. Thegas sampling unit 7 For example, it may be an adsorption tube or a direct reading meter. The area behind thepanel 6 in the sampling system1 has only a negligible overpressure, so that the connection of direct measuring instruments is possible. - d. Determination of the temperature of the
volume flow 3 for temperature monitoring in the sampling system1 with a temperature measuring unit8th , In the exemplary embodiment, the temperature measuring unit8th a K-type jacket thermocouple (NiCrNi). This type ensures a measuring range of -100 to + 1000 ° C. The measured temperature of thevolume flow 3 is also used to determine the volume of the consideredvolume flow 3 to investigate. - e. Generation of a laminar flow of the
volume flow 3 through aflow straightener 9 , Theflow straightener 9 is a stainless steel honeycomb, which is divided into many small honeycombs and has a depth sufficient to to produce a laminar air flow. As in1 indicated, located in front of the flow straightener9 a double flange11b , The double flange11b facilitates access to theflow straightener 9 , - f. Determination of the flow velocity of the
volume flow 3 and calculating the volume of the volumetric flow considered3 , To determine the flow velocity, a flowvelocity measuring unit 10 used. In the embodiment, the flow velocity measuring unit10 a Prandtl probe. With the help of the Prandtl probe and a connected suitable measuring device, the pressure difference between total pressure and static pressure at the measuring point is determined. The flow velocity of thevolume flow 3 can now take into account the current ambient pressure and the determined temperature of thevolumetric flow 3 be determined from process step d. From the knowledge of the flow velocity of thevolume flow 3 can now calculate the volume of the volume flow considered. With knowledge of the considered gas volume and of the particulate and gaseous contamination determined in the previous process steps, a qualitative and quantitative statement about the particulate and gaseous contamination of the gas flow can be made. - G. Escape of the volume flow into the environment.
The shape of the sampling system can be designed differently. The tube may have a circular or rectangular shape. In the exemplary embodiment, a circular shape was selected. A circular shape has the advantage that no induced flow resistance is provoked and the stability is higher than in the rectangular shape.
