Description
The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for ultra-precise machining of a reference surface of a workpiece having an optical axis.
A problem in the ultra-precise production of optical lenses made of glass or plastic is the ultra-precise alignment of the two lens surfaces to each other. Although the lens surfaces can each be produced in an ultra-precise manner in their shape, the alignment of the optical surfaces is often not precise enough. The resulting optical axis of the lens is therefore often not ultra-precise coaxial to the surface of the lens, d. H. with a lateral offset of more than 2 μm and / or an angular offset of more than 0.2 arcmin. Since the lateral surface usually serves as a reference surface for the fitting of the lens in an optical system, an inaccurate alignment of the optical axes of several lenses in an optical system can add up to a correspondingly greater inaccuracy of the optical system.
Therefore, the reference surface of the lens must be machined so that the reference surface is ultra-precision coaxial with the optical axis of the lens, i. H. with a lateral offset of less than 2 μm and an angular offset below 0.2 arcmin. This is also called centering.
There are two alternative methods for centering in the prior art: by means of fine adjustment or by means of dynamic out-of-round turning. In both methods, first the position of the optical axis is determined by means of an optical system relative to the axis of rotation of the lathe.
During fine adjustment, the lens is clamped in a chuck with 4 degrees of freedom (2 translational, 2 rotatory) and the lens is aligned with the lathe so that the optical axis is aligned ultra-precisely with the axis of rotation of the lathe. Then the adjustment chuck is clamped and a coaxial reference surface can be rotated on the lens.
However, it is problematic in both methods known from the prior art that the forces occurring in the chip process either lead to movements and / or deformations of the adjusting chuck or of the dynamically variable chipping tool, and thus inaccurate results outside the tolerance range are achieved.
It is therefore the object of the present invention to increase the accuracy of ultra-precision centering such that the reference surface of a lens is ultra-precise coaxial with the optical axis, d. H. with a lateral offset of less than 2 μm and an angular offset below 0.2 arcmin.
This object is achieved by a method and a device according to the features of
- Fixing the workpiece in a workpiece holder of a processing machine, wherein the machine tool has a defined processing axis,
- Contactless determination of the position of the optical axis of the workpiece relative to the machining axis by means of an optical measuring system,
- - Machining a reference surface of the workpiece with a monocrystalline diamond having tool cutting edge, wherein the removal of material on the reference surface of the workpiece depending on the particular position of the optical axis of the workpiece relative to the machining axis is carried out so unevenly that the target surface of the workpiece to be achieved is ultra-precise coaxial with optical axis of the workpiece runs.
In particular, the high cutting efficiency of the monocrystalline diamond solves the problem of introduced into the chuck or the tool high Zerspankräfte that lead to movements and / or deformations and thus inaccurate centering.
Abschnitte davon. With respect to this invention, the reference surface always defines exactly one axis to which the shape of the reference surface is rotationally invariant. Preferably, the workpiece is a captured or unfixed lens and the reference surface is a completely circumferential or not completely circumferential lateral surface. The reference surface may also have any other rotational invariance, such as that of a cone or torus shell or portions thereof.
In a preferred embodiment of the method according to the invention, the machining involves rotating the workpiece about the machining axis and the relative position of the tool cutting edge to the workpiece is dynamically controlled in a feed direction depending on the rotational speed and the particular position of the optical axis of the workpiece relative to the machining axis. A mechanical adjustment is not necessary here.
In an alternative embodiment of the method according to the invention, the position of the workpiece is adjusted relative to the machining axis relative to the machining axis depending on the specific position of the optical axis of the workpiece relative to the machining axis such that the optical axis is coaxial with the machining axis prior to machining. In this case, a dynamic control of the relative position of the tool cutting edge to the workpiece is not necessary.
Preferably, the workpiece has an optically transparent material and the reference surface consists of this optically transparent material. If, for example, the workpiece is a lens, the optically transparent lens material, such as glass or plastic, is preferably machined peripherally, so that a lateral surface serving as a reference surface results on the lens material, which runs ultra-precision coaxially with the specific optical axis. Such a lens, z. B. borosilicate crown glass (BK7), can be used without a frame ultra-precise in a lens system, which saves weight and installation space. In addition, conventional replicatively produced by injection molding plastic lenses in the edge zones often stress zones, wherein in a lens according to this advantageous embodiment of the invention, such edge zones can be removed by the ultra-precise machining of the reference surface.
Alternatively, the workpiece may comprise an optically transparent material enclosed in a socket, the socket having a different material. If the workpiece such as a lens, the lens frame may preferably consist of a metal such as aluminum, brass, steel, titanium, Inconel ®, be Invar (FeNi36) or other nickel alloy. The socket can protect the lens and facilitate installation in an optical system.
Preferably, the material having the socket has a thermal expansion coefficient below 15 ppm / K at room temperature. As a result, the forces generated by different thermal expansion forces between the socket and the transparent material are minimized, so that the reference surface runs even with temperature fluctuations ultra-precise coaxial with the optical axis.
It may be advantageous if the socket on the reference surface has a layer of a second material which contains no iron, no iron compound and no iron alloy. This can be, for example, a galvanically applied layer of nickel-phosphorus (NiP). Since sizing materials having a coefficient of thermal expansion below 15 ppm / K at room temperature often contain iron, an iron compound or an iron alloy, a non-iron layer such as NiP may facilitate machining by a diamond tool. After all, iron is carbon-affine, so that with permanent processing of iron-containing material with diamond, it would become dull after a short time, while at the same time the diamond carbon that had diffused into the workpiece hardened the workpiece. Therefore, the non-iron layer should preferably be so thick that such uneven removal of material from the reference surface within the non-iron layer may occur such that the target surface of the workpiece to be achieved is ultra-precision coaxial with the optical axis of the workpiece. For this purpose, the original version is made of ferrous material with undersize (0.1-1.0 mm) and coated with a corresponding non-iron layer.
Another advantageous way of reducing the diffusion of the diamond carbon is to nitride the surface of the socket to be machined. By nitriding the surface, it is saturated with nitrogen and carburization is reduced by diffusion of the diamond carbon.
Alternatively, preferably, the tool cutting edge having the monocrystalline diamond is vibrated by means of ultrasound and the material containing iron, an iron compound or an iron alloy is directly processed with the diamond. Neither does a non-iron layer, such as NiP, need to be applied, nor nitriding the iron-containing material. By means of ultrasound, z. B. 20 to 100 kHz, vibrated tool cutting edge, z. B. amplitudes of 0.5 to 10 microns, the engagement period of the monocrystalline diamond is shortened in the iron material so much that the diffusion of the diamond carbon is greatly reduced in the workpiece. Namely, the tool cutting edge oscillates periodically out of the material engagement and can periodically recover from the material interference. Ultrasonic vibration frequencies of 80 kHz and more have been found to be optimal.
The tool cutting edge preferably oscillates substantially perpendicularly (transversely) to a feed direction of the tool cutting edge. As an alternative to a transversal oscillator, it is also possible to use a longitudinal oscillator in which the tool cutting edge oscillates in a feed direction. The transversal ultrasound transducer has the advantage over the longitudinal ultrasound transducer that a greater penetration depth can be achieved with strongly concave negative surfaces. In contrast, the longitudinal ultrasound transducer in principle is simpler in construction and requires less accurate matching of the components used. Therefore, depending on the application, the transversal ultrasonic vibrator, the longitudinal ultrasonic vibrator or a torsional ultrasonic vibrator or a combination thereof may be advantageous.

- An optical system for non-contact determination of the position of the optical axis of a workpiece fixed in the workpiece holder relative to the machining axis of the machine tool,

the tool has a tool cutting edge with a monocrystalline diamond.
Preferably, the cutting edge of the tool is so easy to cut that the resulting cutting force is less than 10 N. Preferably, the monocrystalline diamond is lapped and / or has a cutting edge radius of less than 50 nm, ideally less than 20 nm. In particular, the high cutting efficiency of the monocrystalline diamond solves the problem of introduced into the chuck or the tool high Zerspankräfte that lead to movements and / or deformations and thus inaccurate centering.
In a preferred embodiment of the device according to the invention, this has a control unit for controlling the dynamically variable position of the tool relative to the workpiece in a feed direction depending on the rotational speed and the specific position of the optical axis of the workpiece. The control unit may in this case be programmed in such a way that the axis of rotation, and thus the workpiece, is moved dynamically with respect to the tool or the tool with respect to the axis of rotation or the workpiece. A mechanical adjustment element, such as an adjustment chuck with 4 degrees of freedom (2 translational, 2 rotational), is not necessary here.
In an alternative embodiment of the device according to the invention, this has at least one adjusting element, for. B. a Justierfutter with 4 degrees of freedom (2 translational, 2 rotational), for adjusting the position of the workpiece relative to the machining axis depending on the specific position of the optical axis of the workpiece relative to the machining axis, so that the optical axis is coaxial with the machining axis. A control unit for dynamic control is not necessary here.
The device preferably has an ultrasound unit for exciting vibrations of the tool cutting edge. In this case, the ultrasound unit is preferably set up to excite the tool cutting edge to oscillate vertically (transversely) to a feed direction. As an alternative to such a transversal oscillator, it is also possible to use a longitudinal oscillator in which the tool cutting edge oscillates in a feed direction. The transversal ultrasonic transducer has compared to the longitudinal Ultrasonic transducer has the advantage that with strongly concave negative surfaces a greater penetration depth can be realized. In contrast, the longitudinal ultrasound transducer in principle is simpler in construction and requires less accurate matching of the components used. Therefore, depending on the application, the transversal ultrasonic transducer or the longitudinal ultrasonic transducer may be advantageous.
- An optical axis,
- - a lens plane and
- An ultra-precision machined reference surface,
Such an optical element can be produced replicatively by injection molding with optically transparent plastic, for example, whereby an exceeded tolerance between optical axis and lens plane is compensated by the ultra-precision machined reference surface. The plane of the lens is to be understood as meaning the plane which is intended to run nominally perpendicular to the optical axis, but does not do so because of the inaccurate alignment of the two lens surfaces. For example, the lens plane may be perpendicular to the cladding inner surface of a lens barrel, with the lens being connected to the cladding inner surface. The lens plane may also be defined by one of the two lens surfaces, wherein the shape of the one lens surface defines an axis that is perpendicular to the lens plane.
Preferably, the optical element has an optically transparent material, wherein the reference surface consists of this optically transparent material. If the optical element is, for example, a lens, then the optically transparent lens material, such as glass or plastic, preferably itself is machined circumferentially by an ultra-precise cutting, so that the lateral surface on the lens material, which runs ultra-precision coaxially to the specific optical axis, serves as the reference surface. Such a lens, z. B. borosilicate crown glass (BK7) can be used without setting ultra-precise in a lens system, which weight and installation space span. In addition, conventionally replicatively produced by injection molding plastic lenses in the edge zones often stress zones, wherein in a lens according to this advantageous embodiment of Invention such edge zones are removed by the ultra-precise machining of the reference surface.
Alternatively, the optical element has an optically transparent material enclosed in a socket, the socket having a different material. If the optical element such as a lens, the lens frame may preferably consist of a metal such as aluminum, brass, steel, titanium, Inconel ®, be Invar (FeNi36) or other nickel alloy. The socket can protect the lens and facilitate installation in an optical system.
In this case, the material having the version preferably has a thermal expansion coefficient below 15 ppm / K at room temperature. As a result, the forces generated by different thermal expansion forces between the socket and the transparent material are minimized, so that the reference surface runs even with temperature fluctuations ultra-precise coaxial with the optical axis.
It may be advantageous for more efficient machining of an iron-containing socket material by diamond if the socket on the reference surface has a layer of a second material containing no iron, no iron compound and no iron alloy. This can be, for example, a galvanically applied layer of nickel-phosphorus (NiP).
