Abstract
The present invention relates to a luminous means, which converts radiation from a radiation source by means of a suitable conversion element into a desired wavelength spectrum. In order to protect the materials of the conversion element from thermal degradation effects, the radiation source is thermally decoupled from the conversion element. This is done according to the invention in particular by the fact that an optical waveguide - or any other suitable waveguide - is interposed, which can receive light from the light source and can deliver it again at the desired location. There is a spatial distance between the optical waveguide and the conversion element. In a development of the present invention, a mechanical device is provided, whereby the relative position between the light source and the conversion element is changed in a simple manner and thus a change in the radiation properties can be achieved. Furthermore, it is also possible to mechanically release the light source from the conversion element, whereby an exchange of individual of these elements is made possible. The invention can be used preferably in LED lights.

It is the object of the present invention to realize a luminous element with a radiation source and a conversion element, which is easy to manufacture.
This object is achieved by the luminous element according to claim 1. By the subclaims advantageous developments are defined.
Der Aufgabe liegen folgende Erkenntnisse zugrunde. The task is based on the following findings.
Dazu gehören beispielsweise organische Farbstoffe, konjugierte Polymere, Quantenpunkte, usw.For conversion materials that can converge the radiation of an LED or other radiation source into a desired wavelength spectrum by means of photoluminescence, heat-related degradation effects can occur, which reduce the lifetime. This applies in particular to organic conversion materials, such as OLED emitters (OLED = Organic Light Emitting Diode). These include, for example, organic dyes, conjugated polymers, quantum dots, etc.
The operation of an LED results in an increased temperature. In order to avoid the aforementioned degradation effects as much as possible, it is advantageous to thermally decouple the conversion substances from the LED. This is done according to the invention in that radiation of the LED is first fed into a waveguide at a first location, which leads the radiation to a second location and emits it there. This radiated radiation reaches the conversion element, which contains said conversion substances in the desired composition and concentration and thus emits radiation having a desired spectrum. The conversion substances can be excited homogeneously or inhomogeneously in order to vary, for example, the brightness, the light color and the emission characteristic.
The present invention will be described below frequently by means of a radiation spectrum in the visible range and with a waveguide which is designed as an optical waveguide. It should be understood, however, that the present invention is not limited to the visible range of electromagnetic radiation.
The required thermal decoupling is realized in particular by a spatial distance of the optical waveguide of the Conversion element and by a thermal barrier between the conversion element and lamp base. The former is such that both a sufficient thermal decoupling is given and structural images of the radiation sources are largely avoided. For this it has proven particularly useful that the distance between the second position of the optical waveguide and the conversion element has a value of at least one centimeter, with a distance in the range of 1.5 cm to 3 cm is particularly preferred. The thermal decoupling between primary light source and optical waveguide is preferably carried out by a transition element of low thermal conductivity.
Although the description often refers to an LED as a radiation source, the present invention is by no means limited thereto. Several LEDs can be provided, which can also be of different types. Additionally or alternatively, other suitable radiation sources may be present, such as laser diodes.
As an optical waveguide in this invention, each element is suitable, which can absorb the radiation generated by the LED with reasonable efficiency at a first location, this can pass on and at a second location can emit the radiation again. When the generated electromagnetic radiation has a suitable wavelength, such as visible, infrared or ultraviolet light, a body of transparent material in the wavelength range in question, such as glass or plastic, may be used as the optical waveguide.
In addition to the already mentioned thermal relief, this is due to the fact that no current needs to flow through the organic material, whereby a material load increased by the electric current flow can be avoided, which would lead to an accelerated destruction. In addition, the luminous body can be designed such that premature degradation caused by oxygen and / or water is prevented. This is preferably done by a suitable exclusion of oxygen and water, such as by encapsulation, by using inert fillers, such as nitrogen or in any other known manner. Thus, the invention also has the advantage that can be benefited from the advances in the field of life and luminosity of organic emitter materials (conversion substances) from OLED research.
The inventive use of organic material can also be dispensed with the usual use of expensive and toxic materials, such. As mercury or europium (rare earths and heavy metals).
It is furthermore particularly advantageous if the optical waveguide is arranged completely or at least partially in a body in which the conversion element is located. This body can be provided with an oxygen-poor gas atmosphere by, for example, introducing an inert gas there. Additionally or alternatively, it is also possible that a negative pressure is generated within the body, which is preferably in the range of 1-10 -2 mbar or even lower. As a result, the conversion element can also be protected against oxygen-related degradation.
It is also very advantageous if the conversion element is designed as a conversion layer, which is arranged on the inside of the wall of the body. However, the conversion layer can also be formed as an integral part of the wall of the body. It is also possible that such a layer is not designed homogeneous, but at least partially has patterns, such as sub-areas, lines, points or the like. In conjunction with a specifically adjustable scattering pattern, it is thus possible to change the properties of the secondary radiation, such as, for example, color temperature, hue, and the like. For example, two conversion dyes which address different target wavelengths or target wavelength ranges may be present in different concentrations in the upper and lower regions of the body. It is possible, for example, for the concentration of a first conversion substance (eg red) in the upper region of the body to be higher than the concentration of a second conversion substance (for example green). In contrast, in the lower region of the body, the concentration of the first conversion substance can be lower than that of the second conversion substance. By a selective adjustment of the scattering effect of the scattering body at the end of the optical waveguide, the proportion of light falling on one of the two conversion substances can be influenced. If the light evenly covers the upper and lower part of the body, the emitted light appears white. If, for example, a higher light intensity is directed into the upper area of the body and thus onto the first conversion substance (red), the light appears redder and therefore warmer. It is a particularly simple processing of the conversion materials possible, for example by being incorporated into a polymer and applied by injection molding, a dipping method and / or similar. A suitable conversion element consists of a polymer / dye mixture, a dye layer on a support, such as polymer or glass, and / or a mixture of different dyes on one corresponding carrier material, such as polymer films or the like.
In order to further reduce possible damage to the conversion element by thermal degradation, it is advantageous if an element with a low thermal conductivity is present between said conversion body including the optical waveguide and the LED.

- In addition to or instead of the
luminescent layer 26 It is also possible to use a luminescent element that can be designed differently. For example, it is possible that such an element in the material of thehollow body 20 is incorporated, embedded in an - not present here - intermediate layer and / or as an other body within thehollow body 20 is designed. - - in addition to or instead of the
LEDs 12 it is also possible other light sources such. B. laser diodes, which use afirst radiation 28 emit by means of theluminescent layer 26 or of the abovementioned luminescence element into asecond radiation 32 can be converted.
