In this case, a carbon nanotube ink is at least partially applied to the surface of the substrate and subjected to the substrate with ink applied immediately after the application of the ink drying at room temperatures elevated temperatures. The carbon nanotube ink consists of water, n-propanol, carbon nanotubes and optionally ethylene glycol. Moreover, the present invention relates to substrates with homogeneous conductive carbon nanotube-containing coating and organic semiconductor elements containing such a substrate.
Carbon nanotubes can be easily deposited from the solution onto a transparent plastic film to form a transparent conductive coating. Here, various printing techniques such as slot die coating, screen printing or inkjet printing can be used.
Based on this prior art, it is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a method for producing a homogeneous conductive carbon nanotube-containing coating on a substrate using printing methods, wherein it is ensured that the carbon nanotubes homogeneous and stable in the carbon nanotube ink used are dispersed, the ink used has a good wetting ability on the substrate and the drying of the coated substrates can be carried out at comparatively low temperatures to avoid decomposition of plastic substrates. In addition, it was an object of the present invention to provide a substrate having a homogeneous conductive coating, wherein the coating free of surfactants, binders and polymers is. Furthermore, it was an object of the present invention to provide an organic semiconductor element containing such a coated substrate. The last object of the invention was to specify uses of the method according to the invention.
This object is achieved with respect to the method with the features of claim 1, with respect to the substrate having the features of claim 11, with respect to the organic semiconductor element having the features of claim 14, and with respect to the uses with the features of claim 17. The respective dependent claims are advantageous developments.
The invention thus provides a method for producing a homogeneous conductive carbon nanotube-containing coating on a substrate.
The method according to the invention is characterized in that in the carbon nanotube ink used, n-propanol is used as additional solvent, the ink contains no further components apart from water, n-propanol, carbon nanotubes and optionally ethylene glycol and the substrate with applied ink immediately after application The ink is subjected to drying at elevated temperatures relative to room temperatures.
According to the invention, it has been recognized that by using the claimed method, several advantages compared to the prior art methods can be achieved.
First, the n-propanol used greatly enhances the solubility of the carbon nanotubes in water before aggregates form, whereby a homogeneous stable solution of carbon nanotubes can be obtained. In addition, the use of the n-propanol results in improved wettability of the carbon nanotube ink on the substrate. The composition of the carbon nanotube ink used according to the invention is optimized for use in solution printing processes ("solution processing methods") and thus enables the production of homogeneous, conductive layers of carbon nanotubes.
By subjecting the substrate to drying immediately after the application of the ink, the evaporation process of the solvents of the ink without phase separation can be achieved. Inhomogeneities in the carbon nanotube layer, which arise as a result of such phase formation and lead to defects and a lack of conductivity of the layer, are thus prevented. For a uniform evaporation of the solvents used water and n-propanol, it is also of crucial advantage that both solvents have a very similar boiling point (100 ° C and 98 ° C). It thus takes place a relatively uniform evaporation of the solvent, which also counteracts a phase separation and inhomogeneities.
Another advantage of the method according to the invention is that it is possible to dispense with the use of high temperatures (> 200 ° C.) in the drying of the coated substrates, since the constituents of the solution to be evaporated have water and n-propanol have comparatively low boiling points. The method according to the invention is therefore above all also suitable for coating plastic substrates which would be decomposed during drying at high temperatures (> 200 ° C.). It is thus above all decisive that the ink used according to the invention contains no further constituents, such as surfactants, binders and polymers, which have higher boiling points. An advantage of the method according to the invention is precisely that it is possible to dispense with such constituents in the ink used.
The inventive method is used to produce homogeneous conductive carbon nanotube-containing coatings on substrates. These coatings are free from any surfactants, binders and polymers. In particular, by the method according to the invention, carbon nanotubes can be produced on substrates which contain no further constituents other than carbon nanotubes.
The carbon nanotube ink used in the invention is made from carbon nanotubes, water, n-propanol, and optionally ethylene glycol. Surfactants, binders, polymers or the like are dispensed with. First, the carbon nanotubes are dispersed in water, then an appropriate amount of n-propanol is added and the mixture is placed in an ultrasonic bath.
In the present invention, ethylene glycol can be optionally used. Thereby, the wettability of the carbon nanotube ink can be further increased. Ethylene glycol is preferably used when using plastic substrates.

It is furthermore preferred that the application of the carbon nanotube ink takes place by means of stencil printing, that the substrate is dried with a stencil and the stencil is removed after the drying, wherein a stencil with a layer thickness of 1 to 200 μm is used to apply the ink by means of stencil printing applied to the substrate, the ink is introduced into the recesses of the template and excess ink is removed by doctoring.
