The invention further relates to a method for producing the optical element.
Stand der TechnikState of the art
In many optical systems, including but not limited to head-up display (HUD) systems, transparent plastic surfaces (so-called "combiners") are used to indicate to the driver important driver information such as speed, navigation instructions or danger symbols in the direct field of vision. For this purpose, a virtual image is created in front of the windshield so that the driver, without having to refocus the eyes, can simultaneously recognize the surroundings and the driver information. The virtual image can be generated directly by the windshield or on a combiner in the field of vision of the driver in front of the windshield. Combiner systems have the advantage over windshield HUD systems of adapting the position and spacing of the image to the driver, and always remain the same even when replacing the windshield and plastic surface. When using a combiner, the optical function, including the high geometric tolerance requirements, is transferred from the windshield to the combiner. This has the advantage that, for example, when replacing a defective windshield no pre-selection must be made in order to meet the tolerance requirements.
Combiner can be made of unbreakable glass as well as of thermoplastic material. The realization of the high tolerance requirements represents a great challenge. The combiners are manufactured as free-form surfaces in injection-compression tools on injection molding machines with embossing function. The thermoplastic is in most cases a transparent polycarbonate.
In many vehicles, the windscreen wiper can be seen in the lower area, which can be distracting. To avoid this, it is known to produce combiners made of black colored plastic. However, such combiners have the disadvantage that they allow little light to shine through from ahead-driving vehicles (e.g., brake lights) and thus reduce the safety advantage of the system.
Offenbarung der ErfindungDisclosure of the invention
It is an object of the invention to provide an at least partially tinted optical element comprising an at least partially translucent molded body having a darkened area that blends smoothly into a transparent area without the need for additional coatings.
According to the invention the object is achieved by an optical element of the type mentioned, in which the first layer is connected at least in a partial area with a second layer of a second plastic, which is less transparent than the first plastic, and that the second layer at least two Having bodies with different thicknesses. Thus, the optical element according to the invention is a 2-component element which on the one hand has a transparent region which allows a clear view to the outside, and on the other hand is provided with a less transparent region, which practically blocks out undesired fields of view. For example, the optical element according to the invention may be a partially tinted combiner for a head-up display, with the vehicle attachments in the lower area, such as windshield wipers, are hidden by the darkened area for the driver, while through the crystal clear upper area, the signals from the preceding traffic can be clearly recognized. The optical element according to the invention has a smooth transition without hard edge from the less transparent to the transparent region and represents a distortion and orientation-free component with a wedge angle for double image suppression. The optical element according to the invention advantageously fulfills without additional coatings and thus without additional Process steps the high requirements for optical systems, since the shape and thickness tolerance range of the two layers to each other is less than 50 microns.
In a particularly advantageous embodiment of the optical element according to the invention, it is provided that the second layer has a wedge-shaped cross-section in at least one sectional plane perpendicular to its main plane of extension to ensure a uniform, smooth transition from the transparent to the less transparent region.
In a further particularly advantageous embodiment of the optical element according to the invention it is provided that the second layer consists of an opaque plastic.
In a further advantageous embodiment of the optical element according to the invention provided that the second layer is applied to a surface of the first layer. Thus, for example, by using a crosslinking thermosetting lacquer on the outside of the optical element, a half-tinted and scratch-resistant layer can be applied simultaneously. As a result, additional coatings or coating processes can be saved, thus avoiding sources of error.
Alternatively, the second layer may also be integrated into the first layer, i. H. introduced into the first layer in the manner of a "sandwich".
Preferably, the second layer extends over at least one edge region of the first layer, wherein the surface of the region not covered by the second layer is larger than the surface of the at least one edge region.
In a further advantageous embodiment of the optical element according to the invention it is provided that the first layer comprises a thermoplastic material and the second layer comprises a thermosetting plastic.
The invention also advantageously relates to the use of the optical element according to the invention as part of a head-up display system.
- a) a first layer of a shaped body is formed in a first cavity of a first translucent plastic,
- b) after forming the first layer, preferably after curing of the first layer, a second layer of a second plastic, which is less transparent than the first plastic, applied to a portion of the first layer by means of a step-shaped or wedge-shaped second cavity,
- c) after curing of the second layer, the shaped body is removed from the second cavity.
- a) a first layer of a shaped body is formed in a cavity of a first translucent plastic,
- b) prior to the complete curing of the first layer, a second layer of a second plastic, which is less transparent than the first plastic, is injected into the not yet hardened core of the first plastic melt,
- c) after curing of the first layer, the shaped body is removed from the cavity.
With the methods according to the invention, preferably assembly injection molding by means of a special injection molding tool, it is advantageously possible to produce a smooth transition without a hard edge from the less transparent (tinted) to the transparent region. At the same time, a distortion-free and shrinkage-free component is created without inner orientations and stresses and with a wedge angle for double image suppression. By using a crosslinking thermoset varnish, for example, a semi-tinted and scratch-resistant layer can be applied at the same time on the outside of the combiner, so that additional coatings or coating processes can be saved, thus avoiding sources of error. With the production method according to the invention, optical elements (free-form surfaces) having a shape and thickness tolerance range of the layers relative to one another smaller than 50 μm can be produced in an advantageous manner. These fulfill the high requirements for optical systems without additional coatings and thus without additional process steps.
