The invention relates to a method by which land areas with infertile, ie. H. poor, degraded or only moderately fertile soils can be processed comparatively inexpensively and in a comparatively short time to very fertile agricultural land. In the method, terra preta is applied and / or applied in and / or on specific areas of the land area that is to be processed into a fertile agricultural area (1), at least some of the specific areas being planted with at least one crop , which can cause an enrichment of the organic soil and a permanent carbon input.
Description
The invention relates to a method with the land areas with infertile, d. H. poor, degraded or moderately fertile soils can be treated relatively inexpensively and in a relatively short time to very fertile agricultural land.
To prepare (cultivate) infertile soils, d. H. To convert into fertile or at least more fertile soils, as far as possible, an at least 15 to 25 cm thick topsoil layer is applied over the entire surface of the relevant soil. If this is not possible for larger areas, other methods are used in practice, such. B. the cultivation of perennial green manure mixtures, alfalfa, etc. In addition, supporting humus-building or fertilizing substrates, such as compost, manure or manure, applied. However, this conventional procedure has the disadvantage on the one hand that relatively large amounts of topsoil or substrate (humus) per area are required and on the other hand the distribution and subsequent leveling of the topsoil / humus is relatively expensive. In addition, introduced substrates, such as compost, manure or liquid manure, degraded by microbial metabolic processes in the soil relatively quickly, so that only a kurzeitiger effect effect is achieved and repetition is required. These known measures for soil regeneration usually take several years, in which no yield-effective crops can be grown on these areas. The labor costs and costs for such soil preparation are correspondingly high.

The object of the invention is to find a method with which land areas with infertile or only moderately fertile soils can be treated inexpensively and in a comparatively short time to very fertile agricultural land use.
The object of the invention is solved by the features of
If the soil of the surface to be treated is easy to work (comparatively loose), the Terra Preta is preferably completely introduced into the soil in all punctiform surface sections. On the other hand, if very hard, stony soils are present at least in areas of the surface to be treated, the Terra Preta can (at least in some of the punctiform surface sections) either only partially, i. that is, part of the layer of Terra Preta is buried in the ground in the respective spot areas and a part of the layer is applied (located above the original ground), or completely applied to the respective dot area areas, i. h., the complete layer of Terra Preta is applied in the relevant punctiform surface sections exclusively on the ground (eg in the form of a pile). If a very hard, rocky soil is present, the drilled holes are pre-drilled with a mobile drill and then filled with Terra Preta.
Terra Preta spreads in (or on) the ground, as soon as biomass is registered in the Terra Preta from the outside, because the existing active in the Terra Preta microorganisms (bacteria and fungi) decompose the biomass introduced to Terra Preta, ie from the biomass Further Terra Preta is formed. Of the crops used (by the type of crops used) large quantities (ie much and fast) biomass are formed in a relatively short time, which, if The biomass leads to the soil in which the crops grow, (at least partially), leading to a rapid accumulation of soil organic matter. The crops cause a permanent carbon input into the soil on which they grow.
As a crop (genus) usually Miscanthus is used. However, it is also conceivable to use alfalfa, switchgrass or barley (including straw) as crops. Of the crops mentioned, Miscanthus can achieve the highest concentration of organic soil substance per year, namely 8.5 t / ha and year (tonnes per hectare and year). With the use of alfalfa (6.5 t / ha and year), switchgrass (5.8 t / ha and year) and barley (4.8 t / ha and year) are (although relatively high, but) lower enrichments achieved with organic soil substance. With Miscanthus one achieves the highest reproductive effect of soil carbon, namely a permanent carbon input of up to 50 cm depth into the soil.
If Terra Preta is used in conjunction with Miscanthus for the treatment of land surfaces, it is sufficient in most cases, at the beginning of the treatment, only to cover a small area of the total area (which corresponds to the sum of the areas of all punctiform areas) from 0.5 to 10%, preferably 2 to 5%, to bring Terra Preta. For this purpose, the crops / Miscanthus plants including bales, which consists of the roots of the crop and Terra Preta, set in a usually (largely) regular sequence / arrangement in the reprocessed land area. The punctiform surface sections are formed accordingly by the root ball used. The area of the punctiform surface portions is determined by the respective up-facing (i.e., not buried) portion of the root ball.
Usually, 0.8 to 1.8, preferably 1.1 to 1.4, crops (with a root ball of Terra Preta) per square meter are planted in the soil of the land surface to be treated. It has proven particularly good to use about 1.3 crops per square meter of land area.
The root bales of the crop plants have approximately the geometry of standard pots, since the crop plants are usually grown in standard pots with diameters of 10 to 25 cm, preferably for 14 to 20 cm, and removed from the pots only prior to insertion into the soil to be processed. The height of the root ball is, as usual with standard pots, about 0.8 to 0.95 times the diameter, ie 8 cm to 24 cm, preferably 11 cm to 19 cm. The height of the root ball corresponds to the layer thickness at Terra Preta in the respective punctiform surface section. If the bottom of the land to be treated allows it, usually the entire root ball is buried in the ground.
For the treatment of land areas with particularly infertile soils, at least a portion of the punctiform surface sections may additionally be surrounded in each case by a layer of terra preta, which, however, has a smaller layer thickness (on terra preta) than the layer of the associated punctiform surface section. The layer thickness at Terra Preta of at least one of the layers (usually of all these layers) which surrounds one of the punctiform surface sections may also decrease gradually (steadily / substantially steadily) with the distance from the center of the associated, punctiform surface section. Also, the Terra Preta layers surrounding the punctiform surface sections can be chosen to be so large that the entire land surface to be treated is covered with Terra Preta. In such a full-surface use of Terra Preta have, for the layers surrounding the punctiform surface sections, layer thicknesses of 1 to 8 cm (preferably 3 to 6 cm) proven, ie layer thicknesses are significantly thinner than those in the usual processes for processing used by land surfaces topsoil layers (15 to 25 cm).
The conditioning operation can be speeded up by supplying the entire biomaterial formed by the crop to the land area / agricultural area during the first one to four years (after the start of the treatment), preferably during the first two years. For this purpose, usually at regular intervals, z. Annual or biannually, the entire crops are shredded and the shredded parts (of the crops), preferably distributed in the areas where Terra Preta is already located, on the soil of the treated land surface. If z. For example, when Miscanthus is used, the entire Miscanthus plants may be shredded during the first two years and, after two years have elapsed, the Miscanthus plants (usually their styles) harvested. For example, even after two years, a large part of the leaves of the miscanthus plants regularly fall to the ground, increasing (even after two years) the volume / volume of the terra preta, ie. that is, the thickness and / or area covered by the Terra Preta is constantly increasing.
The preparation process can be accelerated by covering the entire area with mulch (eg straw or miscanthus shrimp) with the founding of the stock (eg Miscanthus). This Reduces the effort required to maintain the crop (weeds), causes a more even soil moisture and introduces additional biomass (carbon) into the process.
The inventive method is particularly suitable for the recultivation of mining pastures (former open pit areas) and tilting surfaces. However, it can also be used advantageously for all low-yielding locations with very poor or degraded soils.
To additionally increase the yields and / or to accelerate recultivation, an accompanying irrigation, z. B. with purified wastewater or process water from municipal or commercial sewage treatment plants, made. These purified waste or process water meet due to the upstream cleaning in the sewage treatment plant, the statutory requirements for discharge into the water, so that a widespread irrigation of highly water-absorbing plants, such. As Miscanthus, from an aquatic ecological point of view represents an improvement. In terms of resource conservation and the regional circular economy and added value, the irrigation of energy crops with purified wastewater is a promising alternative to the use of groundwater. For certain wastewaters, an after-treatment stage for the elimination of micropollutants (eg overgrown soil filters) may be provided following the existing treatment plant. Instead of purified wastewater, the liquid phases from dehydrated manure or digestate can be used for irrigation. The supply takes place via suitable irrigation systems, whereby care must be taken that the absorption capacity of the soil or the plant is not exceeded.
In addition, the land surface to be reprocessed, preferably in the areas where Terra Preta is already present, biological material in the form of biogenic residues such. As sewage sludge or agricultural residues (crop residues, digestate, manure or manure) are supplied.
By applying the method according to the invention, the previous reclamation period of originally about seven years (with the usual topsoil order) can be shortened to about three years, because after about two to three years, the entire soil of the reprocessed land area with (a sufficiently thick layer ) Terra Preta is covered. The costs of recultivation are lower; an economic yield is possible much earlier, since Miscanthus can be harvested already in the third year.
In general, Terra Preta treated soils (and Terra Preta treated land areas) have many advantages over traditional (topsoil treated) soils. Terra Preta soils (soils treated with Terra Preta) are characterized by a high water and nutrient storage capacity (and thus by a high soil fertility), which can reduce drought-related crop failures and sustainably reduce fertilizer inputs. Due to the increased water storage capacity of Terra-Preta soils, better regulation of river basins is possible (rainwater retention and flood prevention). Soil erosion can be contained and the dehydration of landscapes can be prevented.
In addition, the use of Terra Preta can bind significant amounts of carbon dioxide in the form of stable long-lived humus, namely up to 250 t of carbon per hectare in the soil, which, in particular in a global application of Terra Preta, results in a significant active CO 2 . Reduction (reduction of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere) would be possible (extrapolated about 9.5 billion tonnes of carbon per year). In addition, in the processing and conversion of biological residues to Terra Preta practically no carbon dioxide is formed, since about 95% of the carbon of the starting biomass is preserved in Terra Preta, whereas in the usual composting 50 to 70% of the biomass, below Formation of carbon dioxide, water and humic acids, biodegraded.
The method according to the invention can also be advantageously used for the foundation of rhizomes, in which case the Terra Preta is introduced simultaneously into the rhizome in the plant furrow which is in the form of continuous strips.
A complete regional cycle for the regeneration of soils acc. The process according to the invention can be carried out by the fact that the biomass produced on the surfaces, for. B. Miscanthushäcksel, is used for the production of Terra Preta. It could be made of a subset of stationary or mobile Karbonisierungsanlagen biochar; the other subset could accordingly be mixed directly into the Terra Preta. It would be advantageous to use a Karbonisierungsanlage that produces electricity and heat in addition to the biochar.
