The invention is characterized in that a valve (16, 20) in a line (15, 19) for blowing off gas and / or discharging water from an anode circuit in the air supply line (8) or the exhaust duct (9) opened and Hydrogen is added via the hydrogen supply to the anode side.
Description
The invention relates to a method for stopping a fuel cell system according to the closer defined in the preamble of

The object of the present invention is now to avoid the above-mentioned disadvantages and to provide a very simple and efficient method for stopping a fuel cell system.
This object is achieved by a method having the features in the characterizing part of
The method according to the invention provides that a blow-off line with a blow-off valve, which is present anyway for connecting an anode circuit to the cathode side, and in particular to the inlet or the air supply line to the cathode, be used to remove hydrogen from when the fuel cell system is switched off to bring the anode side to the cathode side. The process uses the dosed to the anode side via the conventional metering device hydrogen and simultaneously opens the blow-off valve, so that a connection between the anode side and the cathode side is formed. The metered into the anode side hydrogen can flow through an already existing valve device and an already existing line system both in the anode side and in the cathode side. As a result, the above-described advantages of the prior art are achieved, without the need for additional effort in terms of line elements and / or valves must be operated.
In a very favorable development of the method according to the invention, it can further be provided that the supply air line and the exhaust air line are shut off via valve devices in time before the metering of the hydrogen. Such shut-off of the supply air line and the exhaust air line to the cathode compartment is particularly useful in order to prevent air or oxygen flowing into the cathode compartment via convection effects and wind effects. In the method according to the invention, it is accordingly provided that such valve devices are closed prior to dosing of hydrogen, so as to create a defined hydrogen atmosphere in both the anode side and in the cathode side, which are connected when shutdown via the blow-off valve and the blow-off line. About the valve means in the supply air line and the exhaust pipe, the escape of hydrogen and thus the amount of hydrogen required can be limited accordingly. In addition, this ensures that the hydrogen atmosphere is maintained in the fuel cell over a comparatively long period of time, so that even at a restart, which takes place only after a relatively long downtime, a life of the fuel cell gentle start is possible.
According to a very advantageous development of the idea according to the invention, it is provided that before the metered addition of hydrogen, the gases, in particular the oxygen, in the fuel cell by applying an electrical load without gas supply, in particular oxygen or air supply, are used up. Such a possibility for consuming the oxygen results when the fuel cell is electrically charged, without the gas supply is still maintained. The oxygen is then largely used up. This can be done, for example, until a limit voltage is reached. Thereafter, the fuel cell is switched off electrically and the method described above starts. By this electrical consumption of oxygen in the cathode compartment is far less hydrogen necessary to consume by the oxidation of hydrogen and oxygen, the residual oxygen, so that can be operated with less hydrogen or the process is gentler for the catalyst of the cathode compartment.
The inventive method is particularly suitable for use in fuel cell systems, which often have to be turned off and restarted. This applies in particular to fuel cell systems in vehicles, which serve there to provide electrical drive power. These fuel cell systems should also achieve a long service life, despite the difficult demands on them, in order to limit vehicle costs and make fuel cell vehicles attractive compared to conventional vehicles. The inventive method is therefore particularly suitable for use in such fuel cell systems, which are used to provide electrical drive power in vehicles.
Further advantageous embodiments of the method according to the invention also result from the exemplary embodiment, which is described in more detail below with reference to the figures.
