Description
The invention relates to a method for operating an exhaust system which has a metering device which is designed to introduce a reducing agent for exhaust gas aftertreatment into the exhaust gas. A particle filter of the exhaust system is regenerated, with an internal combustion engine of the vehicle being operated at idle while the particle filter is being regenerated.
A stationary regeneration of a particle filter is known from the prior art. Here, the vehicle's internal combustion engine is operated at idle when the vehicle is stationary. During idle operation, the particulate filter is regenerated by burning off soot in the particulate filter. Such a stationary regeneration is carried out in particular in vehicles in which the particle filter was not regenerated during driving or the regeneration could not be carried out completely.

The object of the present invention is to create a method and an exhaust system of the type mentioned at the outset, by means of which the metering device designed to introduce a reducing agent for exhaust gas aftertreatment into the exhaust gas can be protected from undesirable heat stress in a particularly simple manner.
This object is achieved by a method with the features of
In the method according to the invention, following the regeneration of the particle filter to reduce a temperature of the metering device, the internal combustion engine continues to be operated at idle. Due to this extended overrun of the internal combustion engine Exhaust gas flows through the exhaust system, and with this exhaust gas heat is also removed from the area of the metering device. This serves to protect the components of the dosing device. The temperature of the metering device, which is inevitably increased during the regeneration of the particle filter, is lowered following the regeneration due to the operation of the internal combustion engine at idle and the metering device is thus cooled down. This leads to an extension of the service life of the dosing device.
In addition, this component protection is particularly easy to provide, since only the internal combustion engine needs to continue to be operated at idle for a certain period of time. This eliminates the need for complex additional devices for actively dissipating heat from the exhaust system.
Following the regeneration of the particle filter, the internal combustion engine is operated at a speed which corresponds to a speed set during the regeneration in such a way that a vehicle user does not acoustically perceive any change in the operating state of the internal combustion engine if the internal combustion engine continues to operate following the regeneration of the particle filter Idle is operated. In this way, it can be prevented that the vehicle user manually switches off the internal combustion engine prematurely, as could happen if the vehicle user were of the opinion that the regeneration had been completed.
According to the invention, the speed following regeneration is approximately twice as high as a speed specified during idling when the vehicle is stationary in normal operation, in particular in the speed range from 500 rpm to 600 rpm, the increase in the The speed is such that the time required to cool down the dosing device is reduced to a third to a quarter. By specifying such an increased speed, a particularly high exhaust gas mass flow is passed through the exhaust system. This large exhaust gas mass flow is able to dissipate a particularly large amount of heat from the area of the metering device in a particularly short time. At such an idle speed of, for example, 1200 rpm, both the particle filter can be regenerated efficiently and, following regeneration, the heat can be dissipated well from the metering device. Here, the time required for the desired cooling down of the metering device is reduced to a third to a quarter if the increased idle speed is set after regeneration and not the idle speed of the internal combustion engine specified for normal operation of the vehicle.
Furthermore, the invention provides that the internal combustion engine is operated at idle following the regeneration of the particle filter until a temperature is lower than a predetermined threshold value. Such a temperature can be detected in particular at the dosing device in order to ensure particularly well that thermal stress on the dosing device is kept as low as possible.
Instead of lowering the temperature to a predetermined threshold value, the idling operation of the internal combustion engine, which continues after the particle filter has been regenerated, is ended when the temperature has been reduced by a predetermined value. It is also easy to implement in terms of control technology if, additionally or alternatively, the internal combustion engine is operated at idle following the regeneration of the particle filter until a predetermined period of time has elapsed. The internal combustion engine continues to be operated at idle for a period of 3 minutes to 10 minutes, in particular over a period of 5 minutes, after the particle filter has been regenerated, namely after it has been recognized by a control device that the regeneration of the particle filter has been completed.
During the regeneration of the particle filter, at least one parameter of the internal combustion engine is preferably set, which causes an increase in an outlet temperature of the exhaust gas at an outlet of the internal combustion engine. Setting such parameters of the internal combustion engine is also referred to as thermal management, which helps ensure that during regeneration there is a sufficiently high temperature in the area of the particle filter to promote the burning off of the soot particles in the particle filter. In the present case, the at least one parameter which causes an increase in the outlet temperature of the exhaust gas is preferably reset following the regeneration. Thermal management is therefore prevented and a comparatively cool exhaust gas flow then flows into the exhaust system. In this way, heat can be dissipated particularly quickly from the area of the metering device.
In a further advantageous embodiment of the invention, a fuel is introduced into the exhaust gas during the regeneration of the particle filter, the introduction of the fuel into the exhaust gas being prevented during the idling operation of the internal combustion engine following the regeneration. The Metering fuel, in particular fuel, into the exhaust gas serves to set the high temperatures required to burn off the soot particles while the particle filter is being regenerated. These high temperatures are no longer needed after regeneration; on the contrary, they would hinder the desired cooling of the dosing device.
Finally, it has proven to be advantageous if a regeneration operation of the particle filter is communicated to a vehicle user, this regeneration operation also being communicated to the vehicle user during the idling operation of the internal combustion engine following the regeneration of the particle filter. The vehicle user is therefore given the impression that the particle filter is still regenerating; In fact, however, the regeneration of the particle filter has already been completed, and the (preferably increased) speed of the internal combustion engine is only maintained to cool the metering device. In this way, it can be reliably avoided that the vehicle user takes the internal combustion engine out of operation before the internal combustion engine has ensured the desired cooling down of the metering device while idling.
Such communication, in particular display of the regeneration operation on a display, is particularly advantageous in vehicles in which a battery disconnect switch is provided. Such a battery disconnect switch is provided, for example, in commercial vehicles that are designed to transport dangerous goods. In such vehicles, the battery disconnect switch ensures that all of the vehicle's control devices are taken out of operation within a predetermined period of time after the internal combustion engine has been switched off. However, if a control device that issues control commands to the internal combustion engine is taken out of operation, the internal combustion engine can no longer be operated at idle and active cooling of the metering device can thus be achieved.
An exhaust system for a vehicle based on the invention comprises a metering device which is designed to introduce a reducing agent for exhaust gas aftertreatment into the exhaust gas. Furthermore, a particle filter and a control device are provided, by means of which idling operation of an internal combustion engine of the vehicle can be set while the particle filter is being regenerated. Here, the control device is designed to continue to operate the internal combustion engine at idle in order to reduce a temperature of the metering device even after the particle filter has been regenerated. This makes it easy to protect the dosing device from undesirably long-term heat stress.

Furthermore, there is a

At a
However, the thermal management described above for increasing the outlet temperature of the exhaust gas leaving the internal combustion engine is prevented during this period 36. Likewise, no more fuel is metered into the exhaust gas during the period 36. This results in a comparatively large exhaust gas mass flow with a low inlet temperature entering the exhaust
After a predetermined or predeterminable period of time has elapsed, the cooling afterrun of the internal combustion engine is ended and the internal combustion engine is switched off or operated again at a normally provided lower idle speed, which is preferably done automatically. In the present case, the cooling afterrun of the internal combustion engine is ended at a
During operation of the internal combustion engine at idle at increased speed, a reduction in temperature T by approximately 40 ° C can be achieved within a period of time 36 of, for example, 5 minutes.
In addition, the vehicle user does not notice any difference in the speed of the internal combustion engine during
This is particularly useful in a commercial vehicle designed to transport dangerous goods, since after the internal combustion engine has been switched off, a battery disconnect switch ensures that all of the vehicle's control devices are taken out of operation. In the present case, however, the engine control unit ensures that the internal combustion engine is operated at idle during the time period 36 at a speed of, for example, 1200 rpm, which is still increased compared to idle in normal operation. This would be contrary to taking the engine control unit out of operation due to the operation of the battery disconnect switch.
