New hitherto unknown form of nuclear waste disposal in the form of glass or ceramic beads in a suitable size with embedded radiation-loaded, saturated support materials, for a variety of applications for the final repository supply, eg. B. Space Transportation, etc.
State of the known techniques, as well as the known dangers and problems
It is known that z. As zeolites or other carrier materials have high binding forces for radioactive waste.
For example, in experiments in the vicinity of the Fukushima nuclear ruins, the contaminated water in the sea is passed through sacks of zeolite to decontaminate it. Unwanted ions such as the radioactive cesium-137 should be removed and bound in the zeolite. This z. B. irradiated water from the intermediate tanks pumped over or through these zeolite sacks.
Weak or medium radioactively contaminated waste air vapors are released into the environment from reactor buildings and containment containers of nuclear power plants, and in a broader sense in laboratories medical areas, research stations, from the lock rooms such stations and nuclear power plants, etc. more or less well filtered.
An environmentally friendly handling of the radioactively contaminated cooling water and the water vapors of the cooling circuits and the reactor interiors is still very difficult in practice, costly and above all a high safety risk for the environment and the people charged with it.
In most of the known incidents in nuclear power plants has always played a malfunctioning cooling or emergency cooling, either by human error, technical disturbances or environmental disaster, a significant role.
It is generally the largest and most difficult to manage risk in the event of a failure of power equipment and supply, and thus always becomes the classic forerunner of a "super-gau" that can often only be prevented with good luck and many human sacrifices.
Beispiel Fukushima)2.7. Time plays a key role in this, as the processes become more independent than emergency measures with high technical effort get underway. Example Fukushima)
3. Nachteile der bekannten Verfahren3. Disadvantages of the known methods
- ... am Beispiel Fukushima gem. 2.1:... using the example Fukushima gem. 02.01:
The mentioned in 2.2 Fukushima process of filtering zeolite baskets, or the now most recently applied in Fukushima method of storing radiated water in large containers whose disposal is still completely open, obviously runs "environmentally" and thus highly harmful to the environment.
The pumps and piping required for this purpose are subjected to highly contaminated waste and extensive wear.
Due to the pump technology and the associated installation techniques, as well as long pipe runs and (as now planned in Fukushima) the intermediate storage in large tanks, a high environmental impact and personnel risk can be contained only with great effort.
In an emergency, external power generators or new power lines, as well as switching and control techniques are needed, which costs considerable time until emergency cooling readiness and involves the risk of meltdown (Super Gau).
Throughput and binding of the ions of radioactive cesium-137 in the zeolite should not be very effective in the process now used, since this can be done in the applied manner only with pressure. This can be the throughput only delayed to give time to the binding process.
The operator personnel who perform this work are exposed to life-threatening hazards and to a high degree of health risk. ... with the existing flue gas exhaust chimneys and their filter units from running reactors
Radioactive fumes emitted from running nuclear reactors, even those that are lightly polluted, increase the burden on the environment and cause, at least regionally oriented, increased cancer rates of all living things. (In particular, the studies of cancer rates in infants and childhood cancer cases in the vicinity of nuclear power plants, which are now confirmed by the Federal Office for Radiation Protection!) This problem arises according to recent studies, especially in times where maintenance and fuel changes in the nuclear power plants are made ! Here it became known that in these days and weeks the radiation exposure of the environment is exceeded by a multiple of the permissible values, which, however, does not affect the legally required average values of an annual balance, the people of the environment and especially infants in particular periodically and temporarily However, significantly harmful to health.
Obviously so far no attenuator filter can provide 100% neutralization of the radiation exposure. There are always environmentally harmful residuals. This fact alone proves the increased radiation levels in the vicinity of the nuclear power plants. The works themselves are extremely hazardous to health in the long term, especially as a result of the pollution of the cooling waters and vapors in the working environment. ... in the treatment and disposal of radioactive contaminated cooling water and the water vapors of the cooling circuits
The cooling water must be removed and processed very expensive. The necessary human use in such disposal facilities is associated with extreme risk.
These disposal processes in turn require a whole range of machines and equipment, which at the end of their time produce additional nuclear waste and disposal problems.
(siehe 1.5–1.7)11.3. It looks similar in all other processes in which work with beam material are performed, for. Eg the decontamination of lock spaces, etc. (see 1.5-1.7)
4. Bekannt für das hier vorgestellte Verfahren ist:4. Known for the process presented here is:
There are support materials, such as zeolites in powder, spherical or honeycomb form, which have as a carrier material the property of a molecular sieve, which binds in the dry, highly vacuumed state of water and water vapor and the suspended particles contained therein at high speed.
Due to the special pore structure z. As zeolite an additional product selectivity and thereby binds u. a. also radioactive components z. As cesium-137 itself, even if the water is expelled again.
Such substances can thus be used as "sponges" for toxic or radioactive substances. In doing so, they act like a molecular sieve in order to specifically filter and integrate unwanted substances.
The application in high vacuum and its high adsorption capacity results in a lightning-fast transition of water into water vapor and thus high enthalpy-cold in the Entzugsraum. In addition, no other mechanical devices such as pumps, etc. are needed to run the binding process.
Other suitable carriers for the process are conceivable.
5. Beschreibung der neuen Technik des AMES-Verfahren:5. Description of the new technique of the AMES method:
-
A steel ball container (in addition to the spherical shape are also common tank shapes with appropriate chamber division possible) - henceforth: carrier material container called (see1a .1b ) - preferably made of proven radiation-resistant steel or other suitable materials (eg spheroidal graphite cast iron or forged steel), receives a connection flange with a special valve for vacuum operation. - 5.2. In the inner edge region of the ball, a circumferential sieve is introduced so that a kind of free-hanging basket is formed, which is held only by spacers at a uniform distance from the container wall.
This creates between the strainer basket and the spherical container wall, a circumferential cavity in a corresponding, the later radiation-free security claim of a circumferential glass or ceramic melt, relevant distance to the outer wall.
The free space between the carrier material container wall and strainer basket also serves to ensure that the incoming radiation-loaded media uniformly surround the carrier material filling and thus ensure optimum absorption in the carrier material.
Preferably sieve tubes are close to the center in suitable even in the sieve basket Number installed, so as to achieve a faster and more uniform saturation of the substrate.
The mesh size of the sieve basket and the sieve tubes must be smaller than the size of the carrier material to be used.
The cavity between screen basket and outer skin, later also serves to be able to initiate a glass or ceramic melt as a shell surrounding the screen basket, which melt also protectively penetrates further into the cavities of the loaded carrier balls (eg zeolite) via the screen and thus forms an optimal protective cover against radiation.
Provided with the appropriate transport foot and safety flange as well as lifting lugs, a carrier and repository-safe container for contaminated radiation material (castor container) is created from the carrier material container.
The interior of the inner screen basket is connected via the valve connection piece with suitable carrier materials z. B. spherical or honeycomb zeolite 13X, filled and then sealed with a sieve lid.
The carrier material z. As zeolite, must be dried as best as possible before introduction into the sieve basket.
The entire carrier material container is then highly vacuum-sealed before use and sealed tightly via the special vacuum valve.
The special valve is equipped with a metallic, highly vacuum-compatible seat and closes automatically when the lifting device is triggered.
Several thus prepared, highly vacuum-formed carrier material containers are then connected at the same time if necessary via prepared valve connection piece to the application sites of the reactor containment or simply set in the contaminated with contaminated water or water vapor space.
The thus prepared carrier material containers are then opened simultaneously by electrical, hand, or preferably by explosion-proof pneumatic actuation of the lifting device of the special valves. Thus, an optimal vacuum effect is achieved in the space to be disposed.
This creates the effect of a rapid, explosive withdrawal of radioactive water or water vapor from the polluted space.
By virtue of this rapid withdrawal, in addition, advantageous cooling within the reactor containment or around the reactor core also sets in.
The water vapor or the stored water in the zeolites or other carrier materials can be expelled in a further process, by the connection to further vacuum-sealed carrier material containers and heating of the filled ball container. The expelled water is diluted by the throughput over several stages in new containers more and more, until no more harmful exposure can be detected.
Thereafter, the partially filled container again z. B. used at the polluted places. This process is continued over several runs until the carrier material is saturated and dried with bound radioactive waste. It thus represents an internal cycle until the containers are saturated. In this case, there is no contact with the environment due to polluted vapors or water.
For this purpose, the possibilities are still to be tested by experiments in how far this binding to the radioactive waste as dried solids within the carrier material z. B. can concentrate by appropriate drying operations.
6. Vorteile des neuen hier vorgestellten AMES-Verfahrens:6. Advantages of the new AMES method presented here:
In case of incidents, the method can be used at lightning speed for first aid, requires no electric auxiliary drives, pumps, control stations, long auxiliary piping or power lines, etc., and in particular no human intervention in the immediate danger, except for an electric, pneumatic or manual triggering device. Surroundings. Thus, it forms a hitherto unknown possibility, so-called "first aid" for accidents in nuclear power plants on the quickest way.
The carrier material containers can be mass-produced before use in a safe environment and vacuum-vacuumed with conventional vacuum technology and stored in a suitable number.
Wasserdampf in hoher Geschwindigkeit z. Due to the high vacuum, in the filled with dried zeolite or other carrier material carrier material container, radioactive water or steam at high speed z. B. in the zeolite, taken up to the saturation thereof.
Due to the rapid withdrawal in the room to be disposed of water vapor is formed from the cooling water. At the same time by enthalphy heat dissipation of the interior z. As the containment, and thus the reactor core cooled. So u. a. In a natural way, a shutdown of the reactor process can be significantly accelerated in all layers.
(z. B. als Notprogramm für Havarie)6.5. The processes all run automatically without mechanical drive aids. Only the triggering device of the carrier material containers are suitably at the beginning and at the end of the process ever to operate once, which in an emergency can be done via remote control. (eg as an emergency program for damage)
Only suitable standardized connection sockets with vacuum-suitable valve mechanics must be attached to the ball container and valve connections at the locations for "tapping".
These valve connections can be arranged and installed at the "healthy" reactor containment and other locations without danger as a significant additional safety device.
They should be mounted analogously to the connecting piece attached to the carrier material container in a uniform standard worldwide for reactor construction.
Another method for securing and disposing of the loaded carrier material with AMES:
The loaded saturated and dried vacuum ball containers can be poured out after saturation and drying with a glass, ceramic or other melt for final disposal by this melt is thinly filled, again via the valve connecting pieces, in the interior of the ball container brimming. To fill the containers with the melt, they are vacuum-packed in accordance with the melt volume to be filled in accordance with method 5.17, in order to avoid air or water vapor escaping to the environment.
Another variant of the processing of the loaded carrier material could be, for example, that the loaded zeolite or other carrier material is poured in the form of balls in a further closed system directly from the spherical containers in a hermetically sealed glass or ceramic melt bath system.
From there then the loaded carrier material with a corresponding thick protective coating from the melt is screened out as a ball and brought to solidification.
This gives you the smallest dimensioned glass or ceramic beads similar balls, which are much more transport and Endlagersicherer. With such cargo, even a safe space transport could be conceivable, since small balls are known to be much more shock and impact resistant and transport friendly in a crash, as large containers with loose content. These are in an accident and destruction of the means of transport as a compact glass spheres largely destructive and correspondingly lower radiation to the environment. In the continuing unresolved concerns about the disposal of nuclear waste certainly a superior option.
8. Zusammenfassung der Vorteile des AMES-Verfahrens:8. Summary of the benefits of the AMES process:
The entire process should be far less expensive, more effective, health and environmentally friendly and much less susceptible to interference than all previously known methods.
The preparation of the vacuum tank happens in the safe area.
The subsequent connection of the carrier material container to the place of use is, with appropriate preparation, by way of the shortest route and in a short time relatively easy and fast to the reactor vessel to perform cooling pool, disposal pans or existing pipe joints.
Loaded cooling water is not piping from the reactor area to the environment z. B. led out into the sea or rivers.
This method is also possible where the next accident of a nuclear power plant no sea or river for the discharge of polluted cooling waters and their washing is to be found on zeolite baskets in the area.
Repository transports are to be prepared and carried out better and more environmentally friendly.
This opens up new ways and possibilities for this - and for the as yet unresolved problems of disposal itself.
The process can be used for all reactors of the world for the later required cooling phase in the decommissioning period.
Most importantly, the protection of the people entrusted with the work is incomparably higher than in the example "Atomruine Fukushima" due to the fast and outside of the danger zones of the reactor containment. There, it has recently been shown dramatically that exactly the accumulation of contaminated cooling water, the handling and the disposal thereof, represents one of the biggest problems with the jet load. However, this also applies to the healthy ongoing reactor operation, especially in the maintenance work phases.
The method is particularly suitable for low or medium radioactive contaminated exhaust vapors from reactor building and containment of nuclear power plants, lock chambers, and in a broader sense also from laboratories of medical fields, research stations, etc. can be used.
