Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a signal light for vehicles having a number of light sources and an optical unit located upstream of the light sources in the main emission direction, wherein the optical unit has a light entry surface on a side facing the light sources and a light exit surface on a side remote from the light sources.
Object of the present invention is to develop a signal lamp for vehicles such that the cost of providing a given signal light distribution using a plurality of light sources is reduced, wherein an optical unit upstream of the optical unit is provided with the widest possible scattering surface.
To achieve this object, the invention in connection with the preamble of
According to the invention, an optical unit is provided, which consists of two functional parts. On the one hand, the optical unit has a light parallelization section for parallelizing the light on a side facing the light sources. On the other hand, the optical unit on a side facing away from the light sources on a scattering optical section for scattering the light according to a predetermined signal light distribution. The scattering optical section has a light exit surface with a continuous large-area optical surface, on which the parallelized light strikes and at which it is refracted according to the predetermined light distribution. According to the invention, a light exit surface of the scattering optical section is thus used simultaneously by a plurality of light sources. The light distribution is produced by the combination of a parallelization of the light in a first step and a scattering of the light in a subsequent step.
According to one embodiment of the invention, only a portion of the relatively large light exit surface of the scattering optical section is used by one light source, so that the light sources are each imaged by a different portion of the light exit surface to a portion of the total light distribution. The total light distribution is thus composed of the by the image of the light sources on the respective surface parts of the light exit surface. The number of surface parts of the light exit surface thus coincides with the number of light sources.
According to a development of the invention, the light parallelization section can be formed by Fresnel optical elements, TIR optics, free-form optics or reflectors arranged on the input side of the optical unit. The optical unit may be formed in one piece or in several parts. A multi-part design may be useful, for example, for a taillight or a headlamp with multiple signal functions to perform the Lichtparallelisierungsabschnitte each signal function separately and cover by a common, segmented scattering optics section.
According to a development of the invention, the reflectors can each be arranged coaxially with respect to an optical axis of the associated light sources or at an angle to the optical axis of the respective light sources associated with them. In the first case, the optical axis of the light sources is directed in the main emission direction, while in the second case it is oriented at an angle to the same. Advantageously, this can be done adapted to the space conditions structure of the signal light, especially when used in a swept housing.
The light sources behind a scattering optics section can have a constant spacing, so that approximately the same sized surface portions of the scattering optics surface of each light source are illuminated. Alternatively, however, the light sources may also have different distances from each other. For example, the distance in the center of the optical unit may be made narrower than at the edge, so that the size of the illuminated surface portions is different. As a result, the intensity of the light emission can be additionally controlled in a manner.
Further advantages of the invention will become apparent from the further subclaims.
Embodiments of the invention are explained below with reference to the drawings.
