Das Ventilelement des Ventils verschließt demnach im geschlossenen Zustand nicht nur den Zulauf, sondern sperrt zusätzlich den Ablauf. Dadurch werden mehrere Drosselstellen und/oder Strömungsumlenkungen geschaffen, welche einer Spaltströmung entgegen wirken. Auf diese Weise wird die Leckage im geschlossenen Zustand des Ventils reduziert. Diese Wirkung ist sowohl bei Schieberventilen als auch bei Dreh-/Schieberventilen sowie Ventilen erzielbar, welche ein ausschließlich drehbares Ventilelement aufweisen. Zudem kann das Ventil als stromlos geschlossenes oder stromlos geöffnetes Ventil ausgebildet sein.
