Abstract
In order to convert solid fuels into electrical energy by means of allothermal gasification with approximately the same efficiency as is possible with fuel gases suitable for gas turbines, it is proposed according to the invention to use at least part of the heat generated in the gas turbine process to heat the allothermal gasification of the solid fuels, and to accomplish the heat transfer therebetween by means of a condensing intermediate medium which circulates in a separate space in natural circulation.
Description
I. AnwendungsgebietI. Field of application
The invention relates to a method for increasing the efficiency of heating an allothermal reactor by a connection with the Joule process and a special form of heat transfer by means of an intermediate heat transfer medium and a special design of the heat exchanger required for this purpose.
II. Technischer HintergrundII. Technical background
Allotherme Reaktoren
An increase in efficiency can be achieved, as is known, by using part of the waste heat from the exhaust gas to preheat the combustion air via heat exchangers. This method is well known and needs no further explanation. Problems arise here, however, if combustion technology (eg pulse burners) or maximum permissible material loads limit the preheating of the combustion air to a specific, maximum temperature.
Hauptsatzes der Thermodynamik stets unter 100%.The heating of allothermal reactors takes place - inevitably - with a portion of the product gas produced. The efficiency of an allothermal reactor is referred to as cold gas efficiency. It identifies the part of the product gas that is not needed for internal heating purposes and refers the lower heating value of this gas flow to the lower calorific value of the fuel flow used. The cold gas efficiency of a reformer is always less than 100% taking into account the 2nd law of thermodynamics.
If one now uses the product gas produced in a reformer in a downstream gas turbine or a gas engine, then the efficiency for the overall process results from the product of the partial efficiency reformer (cold gas efficiency) and the partial efficiency of the working machine. The efficiency of the overall system is thus always below the efficiency of the subsystem gas turbine or gas engine. The efficiency of processes using fuels that are not suitable for use in a gas turbine or a gas engine per se is therefore always below the efficiency that can be achieved with the use of suitable fuels.
If the combustion chamber of a gas turbine is used as the heat source, the result is a substantially lower exhaust gas loss, since for the gas turbine a high exhaust gas temperature at the end of the heating for the gas turbine is advantageous with regard to the energy yield.
Despite various efforts, it has not been possible to use this advantageous coupling, since the necessary space requirement of the heat exchanger always prevented a successful implementation of the concept.
Gasification of carbonaceous fuels by means of steam:
The gasification of carbonaceous fuels is usually carried out for fuels that are not suitable for use in gas turbines or internal combustion engines due to their chemical pollutant levels or other physical properties (eg. By gasification they are transferred to a state in which they can be used for these highly efficient machines.
At present, almost exclusively gas flow gasification with oxygen is used on the market to supply fuels for gas turbines.
For this, a considerable effort to separate the oxygen from the air is required. By gasification with oxygen, some of the chemically bound energy contained in the fuel is also converted into sensible flue gas heat. If you clean the gasification product now in the cold state before use in the gas turbine, this sensible heat is at least partially lost, otherwise there is a considerable effort to clean the gases when hot.
The efficiency potential for the use of solid fuels in the gas turbine is thus - due to process engineering - always significantly below the potential of natural gas or other, directly suitable for the gas turbine fuels. The Puertollano power station, which uses pressurized oxygen gasification, has reported 51% efficiency in the literature, while the modern one CCGT plants of the same power class approx. Reach 60%.
The structural design of a reactor for gasification of carbonaceous fuels with steam is initially very expensive compared to an air or oxygen gasification, since a considerable amount of heat must be introduced into the reactor. This is usually between 20 and 50% of the calorific value of the carbonaceous fuel. To transfer the heat, a considerable area is required, which is generally greatly underestimated in the first place.
- - The amount of heat to be transferred
- - The mean logarithmic temperature difference and thus the temperature difference at the end of the heat exchanger
- The heat transfer coefficient from the heat-emitting to the heat-receiving side.
Not a few considerations on possible designs failed due to the problems of heat input or too large heat exchange surfaces compared to the reactor volume.
Most sources of energy harbor more than insignificant environmental hazards, so incineration is a considerable burden. Now, if the gasification and combustion chambers are not completely and gas-tightly separated, it follows that both the combustion and the gasification must be equipped with a complex gas purification for the precipitation of all pollutants. The connection of the two reaction parts is therefore problematic from a process engineering point of view, the use of reactors with circulation of solids between the combustion and gasification part in practical application limited.
Thus, it is advantageous to separate the reaction spaces of the combustion and the gasification and, as a consequence, to purify a small product gas stream before it is used in the combustion chamber.

The invention is based on the objective to overcome or minimize this implementation problem by an intelligent and novel coupling of different processes and apparatus.

This object is solved by the features of
- - The amount of heat to be transferred is process-related. However, it is desirable to preheat the incoming media (air in the combustion and steam in the reformer) as well as possible.
- - In order to limit the heat exchange surface, one currently accepts high outlet temperatures and high temperature differences in purchasing. The heat exchange surface per MW of fuel input into the carburetor is under optimized conditions about 10 m 2 , in less efficient processes up to and over 100 m 2 . Numerous ideas therefore failed in the implementation of the unsolvable question of how the heat transfer surface can be built constructively satisfactorily in a limited space.
- - To improve the heat transfer coefficient is always selected on the reactor side a fluidized bed, as this allows high heat transfer coefficients.
The invention solves the heating problems of allothermal reactors, in particular of steam carburetors for carbonaceous fuels and here again in particular for the patent
By the invention, on the one hand, a Joule process is made available in which heat is removed from the heated flue gases via a heat exchanger and fed via a further heat exchanger to a reactor for heating processes there.
By the heat transfer between the two heat exchangers via an intermediate medium with phase change, the two heat exchangers can not only be arranged separately from each other, but also be designed according to the specific conditions present in each case.
In particular, the fuel gases required for heating the oxygen-containing gas are wholly or partly produced in the reactor.
In this way, a method for indirect heating of an allothermal reactor is provided, in which the heating takes place by an exothermic reaction by means of an oxygen-containing gas, which is in particular also compressed.
From the exothermic reaction to the allothermal reactor, the heat transfer takes place again by means of the two heat exchangers just described.
Furthermore, the invention thus provides a gas turbine plant in which heat is decoupled from the combustion chamber of the gas turbine by means of a first heat exchanger, which is transferred via a further, coupled thereto second heat exchanger in a reactor, wherein the two heat exchangers via an intermediate medium coupled, which circulates in its own separate space.
The two coupled heat exchangers can also be the two ends of heat pipes.
For the reactor side - as usual - a fluidized bed is used, although this is not absolutely necessary.
- - On the heating side of a combustion of combustible substances is carried out in an oxygen-containing gas. Heat exchangers, which are arranged in this flue gas stream, usually have a relatively low heat transfer coefficient. The heat transfer coefficient is increased by combustion in the oxygen-containing gas under pressure. The pressure charging increases the heat transfer coefficient at the same gas velocity. In addition, the heat exchanger may optionally be provided with ribs for further improvement of heat transfer.
- - The exhaust gas temperature at the end of the heating should be as high as possible to reduce the heat exchange surfaces. Since combustion takes place under pressure, it requires compression of the oxygen-containing gas before combustion, but subsequently also allows relaxation. From this process, known as the joule or gas turbine process, mechanical work can be gained. It brings the higher efficiencies, the higher the inlet temperature of the gases in the relaxation part of the process. The objective of the highest possible exhaust gas temperature at the end of the heat exchanger is therefore solved by the coupling with the pressure charging in a very efficient manner.
- The pressurized state heating, ie during Joule process heat input, has been disclosed in U.S. Patent Application 4,212,652.
However, since the application was bound to a special form of heat exchanger, the heating issue could not be solved satisfactorily, so that no running plants are known.
- The heat exchanger could theoretically be implemented in all known technologies. According to the invention, however, instead of the usual tube bundle heat exchangers, heat pipes are used for the heat transfer (
DE 199.00.116 - - Heat pipes are closed pipes in which a solid or liquid medium, in particular metal, under vacuum is in the cold state, mostly alkali metals such as potassium or sodium. With heating of the pipes, usually at the lower end, the solid metal becomes liquid. In the further course, a pressure equilibrium arises between the liquid phase and the vapor phase in such a way that the evaporation takes place on the heating side and the condensation takes place on the cooling side of the tube. The pressure prevailing in the pipe determines the evaporation and condensation temperature and thus the heat transfer. Evaporation and condensation allow high heat transfer rates, so that the system is suitable as a heat exchanger in an intermediate circuit. The pipe should be horizontally inclined or vertically installed. The cooling side must be above the heating side or at the same height to form the required natural convection (natural circulation).
A heat pipe is typically formed as a tube, one end of which is heated and the other end is cooled. This geometric shape of a heat pipe is therefore unsuitable for the present case of heat transfer from a gas turbine combustor, a reactor, in particular in a fluidized bed.
According to the invention, the heat pipe is not formed as a single tube, but as a complex component that contains both elements from a natural circulation steam generator and from the heat pipe technology.
The heat receiving side in the gas turbine combustor consists of individual, z. B thin tubes, which can also be ribbed, and which can be combined by means of a manifold to one or more common tubes.
The supply of liquid to be evaporated and the removal of the vapor can be carried out through the same tube, if z. B. the wall of the tubes is provided on the inside with a capillary structure.
The supply and return manifolds, which may also be spatially connected in the presence of a capillary structure, are connected to a second system of supply and return manifolds of the heat-emitting side, where in turn z. B. pipes are connected as a heat exchanger, but with a geometric structure that is adapted to the fluidized bed. The tubes are usually designed to achieve the required mechanical strength much more massive and also much longer than in the gas turbine combustor.
- In the case of gas turbines, the gas temperature in the combustion chamber is only increased by a relatively small value in relation to the possible temperature increase with stoichiometric combustion because of the particular stoichiometric combustion. Gas turbines thus operate usually with very high excess air, usually between 3 and 4. It is therefore procedurally possible to release additional heat in the combustion chamber by adding additional fuel, provided that before entering the gases in the turbine part of the gas turbine from the combustion chamber is dissipated. Neglecting this heat flow into and out of the combustion chamber results in a - theoretically - unchanged efficiency of the gas turbine process.
- - The heating of the reactor is carried out by the additionally introduced into the combustion chamber of the gas turbine fuel. Since this additionally introduced heat - theoretically - is used completely for heating the reactor, an efficiency of almost 100% results for the heating. The cold gas efficiency can be significantly increased hereby.
- - The gas turbine inlet temperature is usually well above the working temperature allothermal carburetor, so that the outlet temperature of the heating medium from the heat exchanger is almost meaningless.
- - Including heat pipes for heat transfer from the combustion in the reactor part, the device is also practicable in realistic dimensions.
- - From the waste heat of the gas turbine can be, as already common practice, generate steam that can be used on the one hand in a steam process, on the other hand as a gasification medium.
- - The production of combustible gases from carbonaceous feedstocks takes place by coupling the processes with a very high efficiency. Losses remain essentially the - relatively small - sensible amounts of heat from the residual heating of the media in the reactor and from the cooling and cleaning of the fuel gases generated before use.
- - Utilizing the combustible gases in the gas turbine, so there is an overall efficiency for the process, which is only marginally below the efficiency that results today when using fuels that are suitable per se for use in gas turbines.
- The invention thus provides solid fuels for gas turbine operation even in the context of small-scale systems for which a circulating fluidized bed is not feasible without suffering considerable procedural expenses or significant loss of efficiency.
The following are to be mentioned as detail advantages:
By interconnecting the heat exchanger tubes once on the heating side, ie in the combustion chamber of the gas turbine, the other time on the side of heat dissipation, ie in the reactor, each via a manifold, and connecting the manifolds via at least one connecting line, there is the advantage in that the pipes can be optimally designed on both sides independently of the other side.
By being able to split the step of heating the oxygen-containing compressed gas into substeps, it is possible to determine which part of the energy content is taken from this flue gas via heat exchangers in the first substep of the heating and fed to the reactor and / or in the second step of the heating ,
By using an allothermic reactor for gasifying coal-containing fuels as the reactor, the fuel gases produced there can be used wholly or partly for heating the oxygen-containing gases.
By compressing the oxygen-containing gas prior to combustion, in particular the pressure during combustion can be set to be equal to or higher than the pressure in the allothermal reactor.
By the chemical and / or physical purification of the fuel gases produced in the reactor, these can not only be used for combustion with the oxygen-containing compressed gas, but also be supplied to a third-party use.
In operation of the allothermal reactor is preferred. Water vapor used as a gasification medium, so that the fuel gas can be partially used to generate this water vapor.
The allothermal reactor preferably has a stationary fluidized bed in the gasification area, since this allows a particularly compact design, and only in very large plants a circulating fluidized bed.
In this case, the heating of the allothermal reactor is preferably carried out outside the reaction range of the reactor.
One of the possible foreign uses of the fuel gases is the production of hydrogen or synthetic hydrocarbon pin.
