Description
The invention relates to a method for determining a soot loading of a particle filter, which is arranged in an exhaust path of an internal combustion engine that is operated with a predetermined fuel mass target value and with an air mass corresponding to a predetermined boost pressure target value. The invention also relates to a control device set up to carry out the method.
It is known that particle filters are used in exhaust gas systems of internal combustion engines, in particular diesel engines, in order to filter out soot and other particulate exhaust gas components from the exhaust gas. In order to maintain their filter capacity, the particle filters must be freed from soot from time to time (about every 500 to 1500 km). To do this, the engine is switched from the normal operating mode to the particle filter regeneration operating mode, in which exhaust gas temperatures of 550 to 650 °C are generated, at which the stored soot mass on the filter is burned off using atmospheric oxygen. Determining the exact loading of the particle filter is of great importance in determining the need for regeneration. If the mass of soot actually stored in the particle filter is greater than that determined, impermissibly high temperatures can occur during regeneration as a result of the soot overload, which can lead to impairment of the filter. Conversely, if the loading determined is estimated to be too high, the permissible loading capacity of the filter is not fully utilized, resulting in increased fuel consumption due to the unnecessarily frequent regeneration of the particle filter. In addition, increased engine wear can occur as a result of increased engine oil dilution.
A fundamentally different approach to pressure or differential pressure measurement is provided by model-based methods that model the soot load by estimating the soot mass flow of the exhaust gas and thus the soot entry into the filter. For this purpose, operating-point-dependent maps are used, which indicate the soot content of the exhaust gas as a function of the operating point, usually in the form of engine speed and engine load (which flows in according to the target torque or fuel mass). The filter loading is determined by integration, taking into account the soot discharge as a result of passive and active filter regeneration.

If the soot entry is mapped as a function of the engine operating point, this corresponds to the nominal state for a system in the stationary state of equilibrium, in which the operating parameters to be controlled, such as the air and fuel mass supplied, EGR rate, etc. and thus the air-fuel ratio lambda , agree with the actual ones. However, this is by no means the case under dynamic conditions. In particular, inertia-related control deviations lead to emissions that differ greatly from stationary soot emissions and are difficult to detect. This is due to the fact that, particularly in highly dynamic driving cycles, most of the soot emissions are a result of transient engine operating states that are therefore difficult to determine. Under these conditions, the setpoint specifications for the air and fuel metering are not achieved at the current operating point of the engine (also called the operating point) due to inertia in the controlled system and actuators due to high driving dynamics. This applies in particular to charge air pressure control, since this has by far the greatest inertia.

The object of the invention is now to provide a method for determining the loading of a particle filter which has increased accuracy and is easy to implement. It should be possible to determine the load in real time, for example in the electronic engine control unit, and it should require as little calibration effort as possible. Furthermore, a control unit suitable for carrying out the method is to be provided.
These tasks are solved with a method and a control device with the features of the independent claims.
The method according to the invention therefore relates to the determination of a soot load on a particle filter which is arranged in an exhaust gas path of an internal combustion engine. The internal combustion engine has a fuel injection system, which supplies fuel to the cylinders of the internal combustion engine at a predetermined desired injection pressure value. The injection pressure is preferably controlled in a closed control loop. To determine the soot load, a soot entry into the particle filter is determined at least in a transient operating situation by determining the soot entry for a corresponding stationary operating point and correcting it in such a way that a deviation in the soot entry as a result of the transient operating situation is taken into account. According to the invention, it is now provided that the deviation of the soot input as a result of the transient operating situation is determined at least as a function of the predetermined desired injection pressure value and a measured actual injection pressure value.
The invention takes into account the fact that at a given operating point of the internal combustion engine, the steady-state set value specifications for the fuel pressure (injection pressure) are not reached due to inertia of the controlled system and its actuators with high driving dynamics. This transient control deviation of the current (measured) injection pressure from the control specification not only results in a certain error in the fuel metering, but above all in a reduced quality of the mixture preparation. The injection pressure is decisive for the available mixture formation energy. If the injection pressure setpoints cannot be corrected due to system inertia with high dynamics, the result is a suboptimal combustion process with sometimes greatly increased transient soot emissions. While previous concepts only take into account deviations in the air metering in transient operation in the form of deviations in the lambda value, deviations in the mixture preparation quality have always been ignored. However, the lambda value measured in the exhaust gas does not allow any statement to be made about the quality of the mixture preparation and the soot emission behavior associated with it. As a result, the mixture preparation quality is taken into account for the first time when determining the degree of loading of a particle filter by considering the injection pressure control deviation according to the invention, as a result of which the accuracy of the method is improved.
Since the injection pressure is usually subject to regulation by means of a closed control circuit anyway, the parameters required for the method according to the invention, namely the desired injection pressure value and the measured actual injection pressure value, are already available in the prior art. Thus, the method requires practically no additional instrumental effort.
In the context of the present invention, the term "injection pressure" is understood in a broad sense and includes a pressure of the fuel present in front of a fuel injector, regardless of whether it is injected directly into the cylinders, as is usual in diesel engines, or in the case of premixing agents an inlet pipe. However, it is preferably a direct-injection internal combustion engine. Furthermore, the fuel injection system of the internal combustion engine preferably has a fuel rail in which the fuel with a high (regulated) fuel pressure is upstream of the injectors in the cylinders (so-called common rail concept). In this case, the injection pressure on which the method is based corresponds to the rail pressure present in the fuel rail.
In a preferred embodiment of the invention, it is provided that the transient deviation of the soot input is determined as a function of the predetermined injection pressure setpoint value, the measured actual injection pressure value and a current operating point of the internal combustion engine. In this case, the operating point or working point can be taken into account in particular in the form of a current engine speed and engine load. In this way, the accuracy of the method can be further improved.
According to the invention, a soot emission value or a value correlating thereto is determined as a function of the desired injection pressure value and the actual injection pressure value, and these soot emission values are included in the correction. The soot emission values are read as a function of the injection pressure setpoint or the actual injection pressure value from an empirically determined, stored characteristic curve, which represents the soot emission value as a function of the injection pressure. Alternatively, it is also possible to use a stored, formula-based relationship between the soot emission value and the injection pressure.
According to the invention, a first correction factor is determined from the ratio of the soot emission value for the actual injection pressure and the soot emission value for the desired injection pressure value or from the corresponding correlating values, which is included in the correction, in particular by multiplication with the stationary soot mass flow. Even with this very simple model, an accuracy that is improved compared to the prior art is achieved.
According to the invention, to further increase the accuracy of the method, a second correction factor is determined as a function of the current operating point of the internal combustion engine from a map, namely from the current speed and the current torque, and the second correction factor is included in the correction.
The subject matter of the present invention is also a control device for determining a soot loading of a particle filter, which is set up to carry out the method according to the invention. The control device can be implemented in particular in an electronic engine control unit. To execute the method, you can use an appropriate algorithm in stored and computer-readable form Contain form and a stored injection-pressure-dependent characteristic curve, which maps a soot emission value or a correlating value, in particular a dimensionless soot emission characteristic value, as a function of injection pressure.
Further preferred configurations of the invention result from the remaining features mentioned in the dependent claims.

Depending on the signals read in,
The
Corresponding characteristic diagrams are used for all components a) to d), which depend on the soot entry into the DPF or the soot discharge from the DPF, for example in the form of soot mass flows with the unit mg/m 3 or mg/h or mg/working cycle from the input variables mentioned. The four individual values a) to d) are continuously calculated by addition or subtraction and integrated (cumulated) over the operating time, so that the result of the determination is an absolute soot mass or a variable that correlates with this, which is compared with a predetermined critical load threshold value can.
The biggest difficulty in trying to determine the loading of the DPF with high accuracy is the recording of the soot mass flows in transient, i.e. dynamic operating situations for all driving cycles. It is known that the soot emissions from diesel engines are strongly dependent on the air-fuel ratio ( Lambda) depend. In particular, these are particularly high in the vicinity of the stoichiometric air-fuel ratio (lambda=1). In the known method, a transient lambda control deviation (Δλ) is therefore taken into account, for example by comparing the measured instantaneous lambda value (actual lambda value) with a stationary lambda reference value. The lambda actual value can be recorded by measuring in the exhaust gas flow. Furthermore, according to a known procedure, a stationary lambda reference value is determined from the current operating point, which is read in the form of the current speed and the current torque, which is taken from an empirically determined map (lambda reference map) as a function of the speed and the torque . The lambda deviation Δλ is calculated by subtraction, which is included in a soot mass flow map together with the measured lambda actual value in order to extract the transient soot mass flow from this map, which is added to the stationary soot mass flow.
In principle, different calculation methods can be used to implement the determination of the soot loading of the particle filter according to the invention. However, a simplified approach presented below is particularly preferred, which has advantages in view of the limitations in computing power and the available memory space in
In a further or parallel method step, the rail pressure setpoint p_K setpoint is read by the
Thus, in quasi-stationary operating states of the engine in which the rail pressure setpoint is corrected (p_K actual =p_K setpoint ), the correction factor is identical to 1, regardless of how large the operating-point-dependent correction factor_2 is.
Application experiments in practice have shown that the above-described method according to the invention for determining the soot emission of an engine or a loading of a DPF in driving cycles with high driving dynamics provides a high level of accuracy that could not previously be achieved with the known model functions.
