Abstract
A forging tool for the precision forging of components made of intermetallic or high temperature stable phases with high flow stresses that can be formed at temperatures of up to 1400 ° C consists of graphite with a low-melting metal or a low-melting metal alloy infiltrated into its open-pored cavities, whereby metal carbides are formed with the graphite through heat treatment form a two-phase material hardened by subsequent quenching. The forging tool designed in this way is high-strength and at the same time resistant to oxidation due to the flow stress which increases with increasing temperature at forging temperatures of up to 1400 ° C and can be used at these forging temperatures. In addition to its electrical conductivity, the forging tool according to the invention also has a low heat capacity, so that fast, low-energy inductive heating of the tool, short forging cycles and a cost-effective isothermal forming process are possible. The forging tool is also characterized by good lubricating properties, low wear and tear and low manufacturing costs.
Description
The invention relates to a forging tool, in particular for hot forging of consisting of intermetallic or high-temperature stable phases with high surface tensions components.
When hot forging at high die temperatures up to 1150 ° C usually metallic die materials such as molybdenum, nickel or high-temperature steels are used. For example, nickel based mold materials such as Inconel 718 are used at forging temperatures up to 900 ° C, while at forging temperatures up to 1150 ° C molybdenum alloys are used as the die material. Such blacksmith tools are disadvantageous in that they are expensive due to high material and manufacturing costs and partly soften at high forging temperatures and are therefore not suitable for precision forging. The metallic forging tools also have a high heat storage capacity, that is, a high heat storage capacity, so that the heating process requires a lot of time and is associated with a high energy consumption. At forging temperatures above 1150 ° C, these materials lack the sufficient strength, so that the die made from them for forging intermetallic or other high-temperature stable phases such as titanium aluminide, which can be formed only at temperatures above 1250 °, can not be used.
The forging tools used in this temperature range above 1150 ° C are made of special fiber-reinforced ceramic materials such as CSiC. The main disadvantages of the forging tools made of ceramic materials are their lower wear resistance and the breaking out of the material in edge regions of the die, as well as the lack of electrical conductivity possibility of advantageous for the forging process inductive heating of the die. In addition, the known metallic die materials tend to high oxidation at high temperatures.
The invention is therefore based on the object to provide a forging tool that can be heated easily and quickly and also in the temperature range required for the precision forging of intermetallic compounds temperature stable and wear-resistant and beyond can be produced inexpensively.
According to the invention the object is achieved with a trained according to the features of claim 1 forging tool.
Vorteilhafte Ausgestaltungen der Erfindung sind Gegenstand der Unteransprüche.Advantageous embodiments of the invention are the subject of the dependent claims.
The basic idea of the invention consists in the formation of graphite forging dies with a low-melting metal or a low-melting metal alloy infiltrated into its open-pored cavities, the metal carbides forming by the heat treatment forming a two-phase material hardened by subsequent quenching with the graphite. The so-formed forging tool is due to the rising with increasing temperature yield stress at forging temperatures up to 1400 ° C high strength and resistant to oxidation and can be used for precision forging components made of intermetallic compounds such as titanium aluminides at these forging temperatures. In addition to its electrical conductivity, the forging tool according to the invention also has a low heat capacity, so that a rapid, associated with low energy consumption heating of the tool, short forging cycles and a cost isothermal forming process are possible. The new tool is also characterized by good lubrication properties, low wear and low production costs.
In a further embodiment of the invention, the low-melting metals infiltrated into the graphite consist of aluminum or aluminum alloys. The heat treatment for the formation of the aluminum carbides is carried out at temperatures above 400 ° C, wherein the biphasic material comprises different aluminum carbides depending on the heat treatment.
In an embodiment of the invention, the low-melting metals may also consist of magnesium or magnesium alloys.
The invention will be explained in more detail in the following embodiment.
The titanium aluminide turbine blades for a gas turbine engine are manufactured by precision die forging at a temperature above 1250 ° C. The forging die and lower die with forging die formed into this formed die consists of a graphite material infiltrated with molten aluminum, which after infiltration of the aluminum into an open-pore graphite block, became at a temperature above 400 ° C. The reaction of the aluminum with the graphite aluminum carbides, which lead to a significant improvement of the strength properties of graphite and in particular prevent its oxidation, in this combination of materials, the good lubricity properties of graphite and the important for a forging tool property of graphite that with rising temperature, the yield stress increased, can be used. With the dies made of the aluminum-infiltrated graphite, the turbine blades made of titanium aluminide according to the present embodiment can be forged to 1400 ° C without damaging the dies at the high forging temperatures required for this material. Due to the good conductivity and the low heat capacity of the die material, the forging tool can be heated inductively and also very quickly, so that the energy consumption is low and short forging cycles are possible.
The invention is not limited to the present embodiment. The proposed forging tool can also be used for other components made of other formable materials. Instead of aluminum or aluminum alloys, other low-melting metals or metal alloys such as magnesium may be used as infiltration material, which form a graphite and metal carbide two-phase material that is stable after induction in the graphite and heat treatment at temperatures up to 1400 ° C especially suitable for the production of forging tools for the precision forging of components consisting of intermetallic compounds.
