Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a method for detecting gas bubbles in a liquid medium. Furthermore, the invention relates to a corresponding measuring system. The medium is located for example in a container or a pipeline.
There are many known processes in which form under certain conditions gas bubbles in a liquid. This happens, for example, in fermentation processes or when boiling liquids. In the simplest case, gas bubbles can also be created by gas introduced into the liquid. The occurrence of gas bubbles may be characteristic of a particular stage in the process so that the process can be monitored by detection of the gas bubbles. On the other hand, occurring gas bubbles can make the determination of process variables difficult or even falsify the measured values. In the latter case, the detection of gas bubbles is necessary to check the correctness of the measured value.
The object of the invention is to provide a method and a corresponding device with which / which can be detected in a liquid medium existing gas bubbles in a cost effective manner.
- An oscillatable unit,
- A drive / receiving unit which excites the oscillatable unit to mechanical vibrations, receives vibrations from the oscillatable unit and generates an electrical reception signal from the received oscillations,
- And a control / evaluation unit which determines the process variable from the received electrical signal,
The first device so to speak determined from the received signal, a reference value, which is independent of gas bubbles occurring. A measured value determined with the second device varies as a function of occurring gas bubbles. By comparing the two measured values, it is thus possible to detect whether gas bubbles are present in the medium. Instead of comparing two quantities derived from the received signals, the received signals of the two vibronic devices can also be compared directly with each other. Preferably, the gas bubble content is determined by the relation of the vibration frequencies.
In one embodiment, the first and the second device have the same oscillatable units. In an alternative embodiment, the two devices differ in the design of the oscillatory units.
The two devices are vibronic measuring devices whose oscillatory units are excited to resonant oscillations by electromechanical transducer units, for example piezoelectric elements. The mechanical vibrations received by the oscillatable unit are converted into an electrical reception signal from which one or more quantities are derivable, depending on the characteristics of the medium in which the oscillatable unit vibrates. In particular, this is the density of the medium. The oscillatory units can in this case various embodiments -. B. membrane, membrane with fork, or rod - assume. Depending on the selected excitation frequency, the excited vibration mode, and / or the amplitude of the excitation voltage can be influenced differently depending on the configuration of the oscillatory unit, whether a derived from the received signal size at a liquid medium covered by a vibratable unit of gas bubbles contained therein is dependent. The received signal itself always has a dependency on existing gas bubbles, since the medium density modified by gas bubbles influences the oscillation frequency.
For example, a quantity derived from the received signal is a switching state which signals the reaching of a certain fill level. This is determined by whether or not the vibratable unit is covered with medium. The switching state of a so-called tuning fork, in which the oscillatable unit consists of a membrane and two bars arranged like a fork on low-frequency excitation in the fundamental mode is insensitive to deposition of gas bubbles or their occurrence in the medium and therefore particularly suitable for determining a gas bubble independent reference value. On the other hand, a switching state with a so-called membrane oscillator, in which the oscillatable unit consists only of a membrane, is very much dependent on the occurrence of gas bubbles.
A first embodiment of the inventive solution provides that at least one of the process variables determined by the first device and the second device coincide, and that the first device and the second device are arranged in the medium such that the values of the first device and the second device to be determined process variable at the location of the first device and at the location of the second device match. The arrangement of the two devices depends on the particular application. If, for example, gas bubbles only occur at a certain limited location, the two devices are arranged at a small distance from one another and to the point of origin of the gas bubbles, so that the oscillatable units of the two devices oscillate in an area of the medium influenced equally by the gas bubbles. This is important, for example, in determining and comparing the particular values for the density of the medium. An advantage of the method according to the invention is that, in addition to the detection of gas bubbles or the determination of the proportion of gas bubbles present in the liquid, the values of the process variables determined with the two vibronic devices can also be monitored since these are determined redundantly.
According to a further embodiment of the method according to the invention, a limit value of the medium in a container, the density and / or the viscosity of the medium is determined as the process variable.
In a further embodiment of the invention, the boundary levels determined by the first device and by the second device are compared with one another and from this the presence of gas bubbles is determined. The formation of gas bubbles is determined by means of a plausibility check.
According to a further embodiment, the resonance frequencies of the first oscillatable unit and of the second oscillatable unit are determined and from this the proportion of gas bubbles contained in the medium is determined.
- An oscillatable unit,
- A drive / receiving unit which excites the oscillatable unit to mechanical vibrations, receives vibrations from the oscillatable unit and generates an electrical reception signal from the received oscillations,
- And a control / evaluation unit which determines the process variable from the received electrical signal,
According to a further embodiment, the oscillatable unit of the second device is designed as a membrane, as a membrane with a fork arranged thereon, or as a tubular rod.
In one embodiment, in a medium introduced into a container, the first device and the second device are arranged at the same height in the container. In an alternative embodiment, in a medium introduced into a container, the first device is arranged above the second device. The last-mentioned embodiment relates in particular to the case where the two devices determine the limit level as the process variable and the size to be analyzed for gas bubble detection. The device which is sensitive to the gas bubbles is arranged below or at least at the same level as the device determining the limit level, independently of existing gas bubbles, in order to be able to carry out a plausibility check for the specific limit levels. The second device determines, in the event that gas bubbles occur in the medium, the same value for the limit level as in the case that the limit level is exceeded. In general, a statement about existing gas bubbles is only possible if both devices are covered by the liquid medium or their oscillatable units are immersed in the medium.
The invention will be explained in more detail with reference to the following figures.

Not graphically illustrated but also possible is the combination of a tuning fork with a single rod or the combination of a single rod with a membrane vibrator to a measuring system according to the invention.
The three media for which the received signals are shown are air, water and mineral water, ie water containing gas bubbles. It can be clearly seen that the amplitude maximum in the vibration in water occurs at lower frequencies than the amplitude maxima in the vibration in air and mineral water, and that the frequencies associated with the amplitude maxima in air and mineral water are very close to each other. This illustrates that the resonant frequency of a membrane oscillator vibrating in a liquid medium, whose membrane is covered by gas bubbles, is clearly shifted in the direction of the resonance frequency in air. If it is known that the membrane is located in the liquid medium, it can be deduced from a resonant frequency of the membrane oscillator in the vicinity of the resonance frequency that gas bubbles are contained in the medium. According to the invention, an additional vibronic measuring device is arranged close to the membrane oscillator, which provides the information about the medium surrounding the membrane.
In an alternative embodiment of the measuring system, not shown, two membrane oscillators are combined with each other, wherein one with a high starting voltage, preferably at about 200 Vpp, and the second is excited to vibrate with a comparatively low starting voltage. The membrane oscillator, which is operated with a high starting voltage, measures gas bubbles which accumulate on the membrane, since it shakes off adhering gas bubbles. By contrast, the gas bubbles adhere to the low-tension excited membrane, so that gas bubbles are detected with this membrane oscillator. Preferably, the limit level determined by the two membrane oscillators is compared and used to detect the gas bubbles. Alternatively, one of the two membrane oscillators is excited first with a high-voltage sweep and then with a lower voltage, so that gas bubbles adhering to the membrane are released and then gas bubbles can settle again on the membrane. The rate at which re-deposition occurs at the membrane is a measure of gas bubble concentration and is determined by the concomitant change in vibration frequency. Meanwhile, the second membrane oscillator determines the covering state of the two membrane oscillators, so that the statement about the gas bubble concentration is made only if both membrane oscillators are covered by medium.
In a further alternative embodiment, two rods are combined to form a measuring system.
An advantage of all possible embodiments of the two devices of the measuring system is that in addition to the gas bubble detection, other process variables can be determined with the same devices.
