Gebiet der ErfindungField of the invention
The invention relates to an electric motor with a magnetic thrust bearing. Such an electric motor can be used as a spindle motor preferably for driving a hard disk drive.
Stand der TechnikState of the art
For rotary mounting of small-sized electric motors, such as spindle motors, as used for example in hard disk drives with a disk diameter of 2.5 inches, 1 inch or less or for driving small fans, it is known to use magnetic thrust bearing for receiving the axial forces , In spindle motors of the type in question, which are preferably designed as brushless, electronically commutated DC motors, the motor shaft is coupled to a hub which serves to receive one or more hard drives. A rotor magnet is connected to the hub and arranged coaxially with a stator.
The application, theory and calculation of magnetic bearings has been extensively discussed in the literature. There is no doubt that magnetic bearings are particularly useful in reducing bearing friction. The main problem of passive magnetic bearings is the need for stabilization systems for at least one degree of freedom because magnets alone are unable to maintain a bearing in a stable equilibrium. It is therefore not possible to create stable bearings only with permanent magnets. For so-called magnetic levitation (floating state), therefore, additional stabilization systems are needed. Numerous solutions have been proposed for this purpose in the prior art.
Beispielsweise R. F. Post, ”Stability Issues in Ambient-Temperature Passive Magnetic Bearing Systems”, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, UCRL-ID-137632, 17. For example, R.F. Post, "Stability Issues in Ambient-Temperature Passive Magnetic Bearing Systems," Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, UCRL-ID-137632, February 17, 2000, describes magnetic bearing systems that use specific combinations of levitation and stabilization elements. Post names three major components that are cumulatively necessary to create a camp that meets the Earnshaw theorem. The first component consists of a ring magnet pair, of which one magnet ring is stationary and the other is rotating, for generating the levitation forces (levitation). Another element used for stabilization is referred to by Post as a "Halbach stabilizer". It uses individual permanent magnets arranged according to a Halbach magnetic field distribution and facing associated conductors. The third element is a mechanical bearing system, which is used at low speeds, but should be decoupled at high speeds as possible. Post further discusses the use of eddy current damper systems. The system presented by Post appears to be relatively expensive and is not suitable for use in electrical machines which are mass-produced, in particular for spindle motors for use, for example, in miniature disk drives (mini disk drives) with a form factor of 2.5 inches , 1 inch or smaller.

The invention has for its object to form a spindle motor with at least one radial fluid bearing and a low-friction, axial magnetic bearing in such a way that in addition to the axial stabilization, a radial bias of the fluid bearing while avoiding tilting moments is achieved.
This object is achieved by a spindle motor with the features of
The permanent magnet attracts the second bearing component in the radial direction, so that in addition to the axial stabilization results in a radial bias of the fluid bearing, which supports the action of the radial bearings.
Preferred embodiments and advantageous features of the invention are specified in the subclaims.
According to the invention, there is disclosed an electric motor having a fixed motor component, the stator, and a rotatable motor component, the rotor, and a fluid dynamic radial bearing for pivotally mounting the rotor with respect to the stator about an axis of rotation, wherein a bearing gap between parts of the rotor and parts of the stator is formed and filled with a bearing fluid. Further, the electric motor comprises a magnetic thrust bearing, comprising a first bearing component, comprising at least one permanent magnet and at least two associated therewith Flussleitstücken, which are arranged on opposite end faces of the permanent magnet and aligned substantially radially and perpendicular to the axis of rotation. The axial bearing comprises a second bearing component with a flux concentrator having at least two flux guides, which are arranged at a mutual distance and aligned substantially radially and perpendicular to the axis of rotation, each flux guide of the second bearing member is associated with a flux guide of the first bearing member and this separated by an air gap in the radial direction is directly opposite. For driving the electric motor, an electromagnetic drive system is provided which has a stator arrangement arranged on the stationary motor component and a rotor magnet arranged on the rotatable motor component.
The magnetic thrust bearing electric motor according to the invention has the advantage over conventional spindle motors of the conventional type equipped with fluid dynamic thrust bearings, axial ball bearings or track roller bearings that the overall thrust friction is reduced by the magnetic thrust bearing in comparison with the above-mentioned prior art arrangements , Due to the reduced friction of the spindle motor requires a lower drive power and thus has up to 30% lower power consumption than spindle motors of known design. Such a spindle motor is therefore very suitable for use in hard disk drives . low power consumption or other low-power drives.
The fixed motor component of the electric motor comprises a bearing bush fastened in a base plate, wherein the first bearing component is preferably arranged on an outer circumference of the bearing bush. The rotatable motor component comprises a shaft rotatably mounted in the bearing bush and a hub connected to the shaft, wherein the second bearing member of the thrust bearing is disposed on an inner periphery of the hub or a member connected to the hub and surrounds the first bearing member.
Of course, both bearing components of the magnetic thrust bearing can also be reversed, so that the first bearing member of the thrust bearing on the inner circumference of the hub and the second bearing member of the thrust bearing are arranged on the outer circumference of the bearing bush.
In a first embodiment of the spindle motor, the permanent magnet of the first bearing member of the thrust bearing is annular and has first and second end faces and inner and outer peripheral surfaces. The permanent magnet is preferably magnetized axially in the direction of the axis of rotation and arranged concentrically to the axis of rotation. An annular flux guide is disposed on the first end surface and the other annular flux guide on the second end surface of the permanent magnet. The flux guides have radially inner and radially outer peripheral surfaces. Preferably, the radially inner and radially outer peripheral surfaces of the flux guide pieces may protrude beyond the radially inner or radially outer circumferential surface of the permanent magnet. The flux guides can either be an integral part of the bearing bush, but they can also be manufactured as separate components. In any case, the flux guides must be made of a ferromagnetic material, for example in the form of sheet metal rings. The second bearing component of the axial bearing is annular in a preferred embodiment and is opposite to the first bearing component in the radial direction. The second bearing component may be formed identically to the first bearing component, that is to say comprise an annular permanent magnet which is magnetized in the direction of the axis of rotation and on whose end faces in each case flux guide pieces are arranged. The flux guide pieces of the second bearing component may protrude beyond the radially inner or radially outer peripheral surface of the permanent magnet of the second bearing component and lie directly radially opposite the corresponding flux guide pieces of the first bearing component. The opposing flux guides of the first and second bearing members form flux concentrators by their design, concentrating and concentrating the magnetic flux generated by the permanent magnet (s). As a result, the axial force to be absorbed by the thrust bearing is increased.
The radial forces occurring between the rotor component and the stator component are determined by the above-described radial bearings of known design, such as. As fluid dynamic radial bearings, bearings, etc., added. The two radial bearings, which are preferably designed as fluid dynamic bearings, are formed by opposing bearing surfaces of the shaft and the bearing bush, wherein the bearing surfaces are separated by a bearing gap. According to the invention, the bearing system of the spindle motor is closed on one side, with a sealing gap adjoining the open end of the bearing gap, which is preferably viewed in the course of the bearing gap for bearing opening between a radially inwardly directed surface of the bearing bush and one of these opposite with a lesser inclination relative to the axis of rotation arranged radially inwardly directed lateral surface of the hub, so that a conical capillary sealing gap between the inner wall of the hub and the opposite outer wall of the bearing bush remains, and wherein the Seal gap is at least partially filled with bearing fluid. The sealing gap can be connected via a largely radially extending annular gap with the bearing gap and extend substantially parallel to the bearing gap. But the sealing gap can also extend substantially transversely to the bearing gap, wherein it is disposed between an end face of the bearing bush and one of these opposite annular surface of the hub and partially filled with bearing fluid. This sealing gap forms a capillary seal, preferably a conical capillary seal, which preferably opens at an angle of 0 ° to 15 °, starting from the bearing gap.
The hub of the spindle motor may be formed in one or more parts. For example, the hub may consist of a first hub part connected to the shaft and a second hub part connected to the first hub part. In the latter case, the second bearing component is formed as part of the second hub part or forms a total of the second hub part. Of course, the second bearing component may also be formed separately from the second hub part as a third component. Furthermore, it is also possible to form the shaft and the first hub part in one piece. In this case, the stopper ring connected to the shaft is designed as a separate component for reasons of being able to be mounted.
In order to prevent the rotatable motor component from displacing too much in the axial direction with respect to the fixed motor component, a stopper ring is preferably arranged at one end of the shaft, which axially lies opposite a step arranged in the bore of the bearing bush and abuts against the step, if the Shaft performs an excessively large axial movement.
Alternatively it can be arranged on the second bearing component of the thrust bearing a stopper ring which is axially opposite a arranged on the outer circumference of the bearing bush stage. Since the second bearing member is part of the hub and the hub is connected to the shaft, so also an excessive axial play of the rotatable bearing member can be prevented.
The invention will be described in more detail by means of preferred embodiments with reference to the drawings.

In the spindle motor according to the invention with magnetic thrust bearing, the friction losses in the storage system are considerably reduced, because it can be completely dispensed with an axial thrust bearing of conventional design and instead magnetic thrust bearing is used, which works without friction. Further, since no axial fluid dynamic bearings are used, the axial portions of the fluid gap can be made correspondingly large, thereby reducing the friction losses here as well. This means that the axial bearing gaps of about 10 microns so far can be increased to at least twice to three times, so 20-30 microns. The magnetic bearing also acts at a standstill of the bearing system in a corresponding manner, in contrast to, for example, a fluid dynamic thrust bearing, in which a corresponding axial erection ("fly height") of the thrust bearing due to the formation of an axially acting pressure pad only during operation, ie at rotation of the Warehouse, stops.
