Abstract
Description
The The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of 2-methylcyclopentan-1-ol and carboxylic acid esters thereof.
For example, 1-acetoxy-2-methylcyclopentanol is included in the essential oils of various Lamiacaeae like Coleus amboinicus (Spanish thyme), Mentha piperita (peppermint), Melissa officinalis (lemon balm), Lavandula angustifolia (true Lavender) or Salvia officinalis (true sage) as well as in oils Taraxacum Monogolicum Hand-Mazz (Chinese Dandelion), Taraxacum platypecidum Diels (Dandelion from Mongolia) and Rhus succedanea (Japanese wax tree).
There the extraction of natural essential oils typically associated with very high effort and availability Natural limits are set, is in modern smelling and flavors industry a synthetic manufacturing in many Cases preferred. To the smell of natural essential oils as closely as possible or to novel essences however, all components of the natural oil are produced needed.

Th.) mit einer Reinheit von 98,2% als farblose Flüssigkeit erhalten.153.0 g (1.5 mol) of acetic anhydride and 150.0 g (1.5 mol) of methylcyclopentanol were placed in a 500 ml refluxing apparatus and concentrated at room temperature with 5 drops Sulfuric acid added with stirring. The reaction mixture was heated slowly until the onset of reaction at about 80 ° C. The heat of reaction heated the mixture to 96 ° C. After the reaction had subsided, the reaction mixture was refluxed for a further 3 hours, the reaction mixture, after cooling, was washed neutral three times with 10 ml of distilled water and then distilled. This gave 174.7 g of 2-methylcyclopentyl acetate (82% of theory) with a purity of 98.2% as a colorless liquid.
