Abstract
Description
The The present invention relates to the use of comb polymers to reduce fuel consumption. Furthermore describes the present invention comb polymers with improved Properties and processes for their preparation and use.
The Reducing the fuel consumption of vehicles will be diverse Reasons more important. In addition to many design improvements on the vehicles themselves, efforts are also being made through the lubricants, such as the engine and transmission oils, to minimize churning loss.
It It is known that fuel-economical engine oil formulations characterized by good VI properties. Accordingly, should on the one hand at high temperatures sufficiently high viscosities be generated to non-tearing, thick lubricating films to obtain, which minimizes the wear (wear) lead. On the other hand, the lowest possible Viscosities at low temperatures desirable, to reduce fuel consumption by minimizing internal friction reduce in engine oil. Engine oils at low Temperatures have a relatively low viscosity, However, can be used at high temperatures are often as Leichtlauföle called.
The Formulating engine oils is known to be over the SAE J300 standard (SAE = Society of Automotive Engineers). The Previous approaches already lead to one Reduction of fuel consumption. However, it is permanent Strive to further improve fuel consumption.
In view of the prior art, it was an object of the present invention to provide an additive that leads to a reduction of the fuel consumption. In this regard, this reduction in fuel consumption should be achievable in a variety of test procedures, which generally take into account a different drivability. Accordingly, the additive to lubricating oils with a low kinematic KV 40 and a low high-shear viscosity HTHS θ with θ = 70, 80, 90 or 100 ° C, ie the HTHS θ should be as little higher than the HTHS 150 lead.
A Another object of the invention was to provide additives, that can be produced easily and inexpensively, in particular commercially available components should be used. Here, the production should be on a large scale can be done without this being new or constructive complicated systems are needed.

Particular advantages can surprisingly be achieved by particular comb polymers provided by the present invention. The present invention accordingly further provides comb polymers comprising recurring units derived from polyolefin-based macromonomers in the main chain and repeating units selected from low molecular weight monomers selected from the group consisting of styrene monomers having from 8 to 17 carbon atoms, alkyl (meth) acrylates 1 to 10 carbon atoms in the alcohol group, vinyl esters having 1 to 11 carbon atoms in the acyl group, vinyl ethers having 1 to 10 carbon atoms in the alcohol group, (di) alkyl fumarates having 1 to 10 carbon atoms in the alcohol group, (di) alkyl maleates having 1 to 10 carbon atoms in the alcohol group and mixtures of these monomers are derived, wherein the comb polymer in total at least 80 wt .-%, based on the weight of the repeating units, of repeating units derived from polyolefin-based macromonomers, and repeating units of low molecular mono mers selected from the group consisting of styrene monomers having 8 to 17 carbon atoms, alkyl (meth) acrylates having 1 to 10 carbon atoms in the alcohol group, vinyl esters having 1 to 11 carbon atoms in the acyl group, vinyl ethers having 1 to 10 carbon atoms in the alcohol group, (Di ) alkyl fumarates having from 1 to 10 carbon atoms in the alcohol group, (di) alkyl maleates having from 1 to 10 carbon atoms in the alcohol group and mixtures of these monomers, characterized in that the comb polymers have from 8 to 30% by weight of repeat units, which are derived from polyolefin-based macromonomers, and the molar degree of branching of the comb polymers in the range 0.3% to 1.1%.
This makes it possible to provide in an unpredictable manner additives for lubricating oils, which lead to a reduction in fuel consumption of vehicles. In this case, this reduction in fuel consumption can be achieved in the case of different driving modes, ie in the case of a wide variety of requirements. Accordingly, the additive in lubricating oils leads to a low kinematic KV 40 and to a low high-shear viscosity HTHS θ with θ = 70, 80, 90 or 100 ° C, ie the HTHS θ is only slightly higher than the HTHS 150 .
Farther indicate the comb polymers of the invention particularly favorable property profile. Thus, the comb polymers are surprising shear stable, so that the lubricants have a very long shelf life. In addition, the present comb polymers are many Additives compatible. This allows the lubricant adapted to a wide variety of requirements. For example can produce lubricants with excellent low temperature properties prepared having the present comb polymers.
About that In addition, the comb polymers of the invention can be produced easily and inexpensively, in particular commercially available components can be used. Furthermore, the comb polymers of the present invention be produced industrially without new or structurally complex systems are needed.
Of the As used herein comb polymer is known per se, wherein to a polymeric backbone, often backbone or "backbone", longer side chains are bound. In the present case, the inventive Polymers have at least one repeat unit based on polyolefin Macromonomers is derived. The exact proportion is about the molar degree of branching. The term "main chain" does not necessarily mean that the chain length the main chain is larger than that of the side chains. Rather, this term refers to the composition of these Chain. While the side chain contains very high levels of olefinic Repeating units, especially units derived from alkenes or alkadienes, for example ethylene, propylene, n-butene, isobutene, Butadiene, derived from isoprene, comprises the main chain larger proportions of polar unsaturated Monomers set forth above.
Of the Term repeating unit is well known in the art. The present comb polymers may preferably be over radical polymerization of macromonomers and low molecular weight Monomers are obtained. This double bonds are under Formation of covalent bonds opened. Accordingly the repeating unit results from the monomers used. However, the present comb polymers can also by polymer-analogous reactions and / or graft copolymerization obtained become. In this case, the converted repeat unit counts the main chain to the repeating unit, that of a polyolefin-based Macromonomers is derived. The same applies to the production the comb polymers according to the invention by graft copolymerization.
The The present invention describes comb polymers which are preferably have a high oil solubility. The term oil-soluble means that a mixture of a base oil and a comb polymer according to the invention without macroscopic Phase formation can be produced which at least 0.1 wt .-%, preferably at least 0.5% by weight of the comb polymers according to the invention having. In this mixture, the comb polymer can be dispersed and / or solved exist. The oil solubility hangs in particular, the proportion of lipophilic side chains and the base oil from. This property is known to the person skilled in the art and can be used for the respective base oil slightly above the proportion be adjusted lipophilic monomers.

The ATRP method is known per se. It is believed that it this is a "living" radical polymerization, without being restricted by the description of the mechanism should be done. In these methods, a transition metal compound implemented with a connection that is a transferable Has atomic group. Here, the transferable atomic group transferred to the transition metal compound, whereby the metal is oxidized. In this reaction, a radical forms, which adds to ethylenic groups. The transfer of However, atomic group on the transition metal compound is reversible, leaving the atomic group on the growing polymer chain is retransmitted, creating a controlled Polymerization system is formed. Accordingly, the structure of the polymer, the molecular weight and the molecular weight distribution to be controlled.

The Polymerization can be carried out at normal pressure, under- or overpressure be performed. Also the polymerization temperature is not critical. In general, however, it is in the range of -20 ° -200 ° C, preferably 50 ° -150 ° C and especially preferably 80 ° -130 ° C.
The Polymerization can be carried out with or without solvent become. The term of the solvent is hereby far to understand. The choice of solvent is made according to the polarity of the monomers used, with preference 100N oil, lighter gas oil and / or aromatic Hydrocarbons, for example, toluene or xylene used can be.
The for the preparation of comb polymers according to the invention in a radical copolymerization to be used low molecular weight Monomers are generally available commercially.
Usable according to the invention Macromonomers have exactly one double bond, preferably is terminal.
So entsteht beispielsweise bei einer kationischen Polymerisation von Isobutylen ein Polyisobutylen (PIB), welches eine endständige Doppelbindung aufweist.in this connection may be the double bond by the preparation of macromonomers be conditionally available. This is the case, for example, with a cationic one Polymerization of isobutylene a polyisobutylene (PIB), which has a terminal double bond.
Of Furthermore, functionalized polyolefinic groups be converted by suitable reactions into a macromonomer.
For example can be based on polyolefins macro alcohols and / or Macroamines with low molecular weight monomers containing at least one unsaturated ester group, such as methyl (meth) acrylate or ethyl (meth) acrylate subjected to transesterification or aminolysis become.
This transesterification is well known. For example, this may be a heterogeneous catalyst system, such as lithium hydroxide / calcium oxide mixture (LiOH / CaO), pure lithium hydroxide (LiOH), lithium methoxide (LiOMe) or sodium methoxide (NaOMe) or a homogeneous catalyst system such as the Isopropyltitanat (Ti (OiPr) 4 ) or Dioctyltin oxide (Sn (Oct) 2 O). The reaction is an equilibrium reaction. Therefore, the liberated low molecular weight alcohol is usually removed, for example, by distillation.
Of Furthermore, these macromonomers can be replaced by a direct Esterification or direct amidation starting, for example, from Methacrylic acid or methacrylic anhydride, preferred under acid catalysis by p-toluenesulfonic acid or methanesulfonic acid or from the free methacrylic acid by the DCC method (Dicyclohexylcarbodiimide).
About that In addition, the present alcohol or amide can be converted by reaction with an acid chloride such as (meth) acryloyl chloride be converted into a macromonomer.
Farther There is also the option of a macro-alcohol over the reaction of the terminal PIB double bond, as they are formed with cationically polymerized PIB, with maleic anhydride (EN reaction) and subsequent conversion with an α, ω-aminoalcohol manufacture.
Farther may be suitable macromonomers by reacting a terminal PIB double bond with methacrylic acid or by a Friedel-Crafts alkylation of the PIB double bond to styrene.

One improved class of mineral oils (reduced sulfur content, reduced nitrogen content, higher viscosity index, lower pour point) is by hydrotreating the mineral oils given (hydro isomerization, hydrocracking, hydro treatment, hydro finishing). Hierzu wurden Schmierölzusammensetzungen hergestellt, die einen kommerziell erhältlichen Stockpunktverbesserer (VISCOPLEX® 1–247) in einer Konzentration von 0,37 Gew.-% umfassten.to Investigation of the compatibility of the comb polymers with pour point improvers further experiments were carried out. For this purpose, lubricating oil compositions prepared a commercially available pour point improver (VISCOPLEX® 1-247) in a concentration of 0.37 wt% included.
Hierbei
The Results show that lubricating oil compositions, the present comb polymers in combination with pour point improvers, especially on the basis of PAMA outstanding low temperature properties (Required: <-40 ° C / <35Pa / <= 60000mPas).
B) in 0W-20-Grundöl auf Basis von API Gruppe-III-Öl:B) based on 0W-20 base oil of API Group III Oil:
From 11.2% HiTEC ® 1192 (Afton Chemical), 8.8% Nexbase 3030 ®, 80% Nexbase ® 3043 (Neste Oil) was a 0W-20 base oil of KV40 = 27.24 mm 2 / s, KV100 = 5.390 mm 2 / s and VI = 136). Subsequently, as in A), the viscometry of Examples and Comparative Examples was tested in formulations of HTHS 150 = 2.6 mPas.
<=60000mPas). Tabelle 5
C) in 5W-30-Grundöl mit DI-Paket auf Basis von API Gruppe-III-Öl:C) in 5W-30 base oil with DI package based on API Group III oil:
Finally, a third set of measurements was made in a DI package containing 5W-30 base oil (KV40 = 38.76 mm 2 / s, KV100 = 6.938 mm 2 / s and VI = 140). Unlike the SAE J300, which requires "only" HTHS 150 = 2.9 mPas for a 5W-30 formulation, the 5W-30 formulations were used as for European engine manufacturers (eg Mercedes-Benz MB229.1 and MB228. 3 for factory fillings) is usually set to HTHS 150 = 3.5 mPas.
Also in the 5W-30 formulations was found that the comb polymers of the invention a substantially lower KV (100 likewise lower KV) and a lower high shear viscosity HTHS comprise 40 100 ® as VISCOPLEX 6-950.
<=60000mPas). Tabelle 7
