Mit dem Umdrehungssensor, welcher bereits serienmäßig in den meisten Fahrzeugen verbaut ist, kann nur eine relative Auszuglänge des Sicherheitsgurtes bestimmt werden. Durch die Verwendung der mit dem weiteren Sensor erfassbaren Markierungen zur Bestimmung einer absoluten Auszuglänge des Sicherheitsgurtes ist eine technisch einfache und kostengünstige Möglichkeit gegeben, mit einem nur geringen Aufwand eine absolute Auszuglänge des Sicherheitsgurtes zu ermitteln. Die Markierungen können somit genutzt werden, einen bereits vorhandenen Gurtauszugssensor, nämlich den Umdrehungssensor, zu kalibrieren.
