The The invention relates to a method for coating at least one Contact area of a valve element, a valve element with a Coating, as well as generally a coating for an object. Furthermore, the invention relates to a method for producing a wear-resistant, consisting of a valve and an associated valve seat ring Valve pairing by applying a coating to the surface of a Contact area of at least one of the two involved valve components, and a valve and valve seat ring made by this method existing valve pairing.
Die in diesem System miteinander wechselwirkenden Oberflächen unterliegen, bedingt durch das in einem Verbrennungsmotor wirkende Lastkollektiv, das sich aus mechanischer, thermischer, tribologischer und chemischer Belastung zusammensetzt, äußerst komplexen Beanspruchungen.at the development of engines is in addition to the increase in power concentration, the availability and the extension the lifetime in particular the steady increase in effectiveness at the same time Focus on reducing emissions. To achieve this Aspects become common higher claims to the individual engine components in terms of durability and wear resistance put as before. An example of this are the valve elements in Area of the combustion chamber of the engine, i. the valve and the associated valve seat ring, which together form a tribological system. The in this system subject to interacting surfaces, due to the in a combustion engine acting load collective, consisting of mechanical, thermal, tribological and chemical stress composed, extremely complex Stresses.
Around the wear of the It is known to reduce non-metallic layers between valve elements a valve body, in this case the valve seat ring, and a counter body, the valve, bring the interaction of the two components to each other to reduce. In particular, oil residues, soot particles, Metal ashes and their derivatives as friction and wear-reducing Lubricants over the intake air, the fuel, the exhaust gas and / or on direct Way be introduced. In cases, in which the tribological compatibility of the valve elements to the Contact points also in combination with one described above Lubrication is not sufficient to the valve elements sufficiently before Wear too protect, come in addition special oil additives and / or lubrication systems are used.
The progressive tightening environmental legislation, in particular with regard to another However, reducing pollutant emissions makes it clearer Reduction or even the complete abandonment of an external one Lubrication of such a valve assembly via fuels, combustion products or the engine oil required. The valve elements, previously a liquid or Mixed friction were thus, in future, increasingly a solid friction exposed. Increase this Significantly, the requirements for wear resistance the for the valve elements used materials, especially in the area the contact points to a premature failure of the two tribal partners due to an increasing burden in this area.
Therefore be according to the engine specific different requirements on the wear resistance already different for different applications in practice Material combinations used. The materials for the main body of the Valve elements especially considering the mechanical Load of the valve elements selected. At the contact points between the valve elements wear is reduced by suitable Surface treatment processes like hardening, Nitriding, tanks or chrome plating achieved. In addition to the wear reduction serves a seat armor to the valve elements, for example at the same time achieving a better sealing effect of the valve during the Engine operation. In the valve seat rings of engines of smaller design come for This purpose is already often sintered materials used, the even with big ones Engines, such as marine engines, due to the diverse in they implementable properties a suitable alternative to currently predominantly could be used for special casting materials. The in the production of correspondingly large valve seat rings made of sintered materials however, necessary manufacturing technology currently prevents its use this material class for size Engines, especially for Marine engines.
The currently for this last-mentioned application case special cast materials in use are usually made with high alloying levels of carbon, Cast silicon, manganese, chrome, nickel, molybdenum and other elements. additionally is trying over the introduction or generation of wear-resistant phases, such as carbides or intermetallic phases, the wear resistance of the components involved to improve. Even with sintered materials is trying by the Introducing suitable materials in the material the desired Properties, such as self-lubrication and / or solid lubrication, to achieve.
The present invention is therefore based on the object, a coating method, in the special for valve elements, provide that allows a permanent introduction of a solid lubricant. A further object is to provide a coating, in particular for valve elements, with a firmly integrated solid lubricant. The object underlying the invention is achieved in a method for coating at least one surface of a contact region of a valve element by providing a coating material consisting of a plurality of alloy components, as well as at least one further material component, which is known as solid lubricant and has a melting point, the higher is, as the melting points of the respective alloying components, partial melting of the coating material such that the alloying components substantially completely melt while a major portion of the further material component does not melt contact at least a contact area of the valve element with the partially melted coating material and cooling of the coating material. By the method described above, it is possible to embed a solid lubricant permanently in an alloy matrix of a coating. Furthermore, the solid lubricant is preferably uniformly distributed over the alloy, so that even after a possible removal of the surface of the coating, solid lubricant is present on the newly formed surface. This firmly embedded solid lubricant is in turn able to significantly improve the tribological properties of the coating.
Desto größer ist ferner der in ungelöster Form eingebettete Anteil der weiteren Materialkomponente der für eine Festkörperschmierung bereitsteht.at the cooling of the coating material form the molten alloy components and an optionally melted portion of the further material component preferably an alloy in which the unmelted part the further material component is embedded in an undissolved form, which gives the above advantages. Preferably, at least about 70 % preferably about 90% of the other material component during partial melting of the coating material is not melted. The bigger the Proportion of unmelted further material component, the more smaller is the proportion that is dissolved in the alloy and its properties affected. The bigger it is furthermore, in the unresolved Shape embedded portion of the other material component of the solid-state lubrication ready.
Preferably the coating material is transferred in a surface to be coated Plasma arc partially melted in an ionized inert gas and applied to the component to be coated. The melting and application in a plasma arc provides good controllability with regard to the energy density introduced into the coating material, to properly control the reflow process. Furthermore is a plasma arc welding in well known and widely used in the field of automation known.
Die oben genannten Legierungskomponenten bilden eine Legierung mit hervorragenden Benetzungseigenschaften, was das Einbetten der weiteren Materialkomponente fördert.at a particularly preferred embodiment of the invention comprises the plurality of alloy components nickel, Chrome, Bohr and silicon on, as well as optional iron and other trace elements. The above alloying components form an alloy excellent wetting properties, allowing the further embedding Promotes material component.
Preferably has the further material component molybdenum, due to its high melting point of about from 2600 ° C and its properties as solid lubricant in the above said method is particularly suitable. The molybdenum is in front of it partial melting of the coating material preferably in the shape of cracked raw molybdenum or in the form of sintered Molybdenum-based powder in front. To cool down after provide the coating material with adequate solid-state lubrication, preferably forms the material component before melting approximately 10 to 30 weight percent of the coating material. In the cooled coating the further material component is preferably of the order of approximately 5 to 30 weight percent of the coating in undissolved form embedded in the alloy. Even more preferred is the further material component in an order of magnitude of about 15 to 25 weight percent, and more particularly on an order of magnitude of about 20 weight percent of the coating in undissolved form in the alloy embedded.
Around to ensure, that at the melting of the coating material, a main part the remaining material component remains in its original form, the melting point of the further material component is preferably at least 1000 ° C and in particular at least 1500 ° C over the Melting points of the respective alloy components.
The inventive method is in particular for the preparation of a valve and a associated valve seat ring existing valve pairing by applying a coating on the contact area of the surface at least one of the valve elements involved in both.
The object underlying the invention is also achieved by a valve element with a coating in at least one contact region of the Solved valve element, wherein the coating consists of a plurality of fused together, an alloy-forming alloy components in the structure of another material component, which is known as solid lubricant, embedded, without being dissolved in the alloy. In such a valve element, the above-mentioned advantages of the permanent solid Einbet least a solid lubricant in an alloy to improve the tribological properties of the valve element. It is possible that the further material component also forms part of the alloy components, but also a proportion of the further material component must be provided in undissolved form.
The The object underlying the invention is also achieved by a coating for one Solved the object, wherein the coating of a plurality of fused together, an alloying alloying component, in whose structure another material component known as solid lubricant, is incorporated without being dissolved in the alloy. Such a coating can be independent from the underlying base material, such as a Valve element the above advantages of tribological enhancement Properties of the coating.
The Invention solves the first task mentioned above, and in addition to an off Valve and valve seat ring existing arrangement a seat armor by applying a powdered coating material in a transmitted to the component Plasma arc melted in an ionized inert gas and applied to the contacting region of at least one of the contact partners becomes. Such as plasma powder build-up welding (engl. PTA welding = Plasma Transferred Arc Welding) already known method is for example in PRESS INFO from May 2001 of the Community Thermal Spraying e.V. (GTS) as well as on the website of the company Walter Hunger KG (http://www.hunger-hydraulik.de) described in more detail. The method has the advantage that it is fully automated is and a high process reliability guaranteed. Another advantage of the inventively provided manufacturing process consists in variability the alloying elements that can be introduced into the coating powder. So contains also in an advantageous embodiment of the invention provided Method preferably used, from a mixture of nickel, Chromium, boron, silicon and iron and other trace elements existing Powder, referred to as NiCrBSi powder for short, other alloying elements, preferably a proportion of molybdenum.
The molybdenum The NiCrBSi alloy can be either as a broken molybdenum powder or added as agglomerated sintered molybdenum base powder. It can In this context, however, tungsten carbides are used. The particular advantage of PTA welding is local melting of the powder used by a short energy input and a relatively fast Cooling down. This will cause melting of certain of the powder ingredients, for example, the components of nickel, chromium, boron, silicon and iron allows while other ingredients, such as molybdenum, are not substantially melted is and in substantially unchanged form in the alloy structure of the other constituents is stored.

The Invention provides a method for coating a valve element, a valve element with a coating, as well as a coating according to claims 1, 16 or 26 before. In this arc is now a later coating forming Application powder (coating material) introduced and partially there melted. In this case, the order powder is through the plasma-forming Gas and possibly further, directed gas streams introduced. In the arc, the powder is locally melted quickly and then cooled relatively quickly again from. It is by a mechanical constriction of the arc an extreme achieved high energy density, which is much higher than conventional welding processes is. Furthermore, the Energy density by an adjustment of the welding parameters, such as Yield energy (i.e., current, voltage, welding speed), plasma or protective gas flow and Powder flow in terms of optimize the material used. The arc burns for example, with a temperature of 10,000 to 15,000 ° C and the Molten bath, i. reached the melted part of the order powder for example, an average temperature of about 1,700 up to 1,800 ° C, where locally higher Temperatures occur.
The Contains order powder in the preferred embodiment invention a mixture of alloying elements, the nickel, Chromium, boron, silicon and iron as well as other trace elements. These Mixture is in terms of their grain fraction, the grain geometry and the grain morphology matched to the PTA process. As another Contains element the order powder a fraction of molybdenum, which in the form of broken Raw molybdenum or agglomerated sintered molybdenum base powder is present. The molybdenum is not referred to as alloying element, since it with the Alloy elements not in solution to go, but after the build-up welding in substantially unchanged Form is maintained, as explained below.
eingelagert bzw. eingebettet.
Particularly advantageous is a coating of the above type, in which a solid lubricant, especially molybdenum, is incorporated, for internal combustion engine chamber combustion chamber valve members, because the positive effect of solid lubrication is enhanced by the chemical property of molybdenum reacting with oxygen when heated. The necessary temperatures are provided in such valve elements by the combustion process of the engine and by the friction between the valve components. However, a coating of the above type may also be advantageous in other applications where a corresponding oxidation temperature is provided for the molybdenum.
The molybdenum forms in this reaction with the oxygen in several oxidation states Molybdenum oxides. A formation of molybdenum oxide to a relevant extent already during the course of the coating process described above is due to the proposed protective gas atmosphere and because the lack of reduction options of oxygen from the base materials, i.e., the valve, valve seat ring or the powder base, and the alloying elements practically excluded. Rather, it is only on the surfaces of the finished coating the reaction of pure molybdenum with the ambient oxygen instead.
As is known, the presence of certain metal oxides, for example MoO 3 as an intermediate in tribological systems, results in an advantageous, because it reduces wear, the tribological stresses in such a system. This effect is also achieved in the case of the valve pairing produced by the method described above. The thickness of the applied layer is about 2 mm to 5 mm, its macro-hardness is about 50 HRC. Although the valve material itself is also melted or melted in the above-described PTA process, the degree of mixing with the applied coating is typically low in the process.
Even though the above coating process as a Powder plasma build-up welding described, the coating can also by other welding methods, such as TIG or gas deposition welding with filler rod or wire, or for example applied by laser powder buildup welding. there have to the respective process parameters be adjusted so that the coating material consisting of alloy components and another material component used as a solid lubricant is known and has a melting point which is higher than that of the respective alloying components to be adjusted that a main part of the further material component does not melt and go into solution with the alloy components. One is as possible size Difference between the melting temperatures of the alloy components and the other material component advantageous, as in the above components is the case. Furthermore, the process parameters should be set so that the other material component as evenly as possible in the is formed distributed alloy.
