To The prior art are internal combustion engines for reduction Pollutant emissions with various exhaust aftertreatment systems fitted.
Though also without additional activities while the expansion and the expelling of the cylinder filling at a sufficient high temperature level and the presence of sufficiently large amounts of oxygen oxidation the unburned hydrocarbons (HC) and carbon monoxide (CO) instead. However, these reactions come quickly because of the downstream decreasing exhaust gas temperature and consequently rapidly decreasing Reaction speed quickly stopped. Possible lack of oxygen can by a secondary air injection be compensated. However, you have to usually special reactors and / or filters provided in the exhaust system be to pollutant emissions under all operating conditions noticeable to reduce.
Für Dieselmotoren sind thermische Reaktoren aufgrund des grundsätzlich niedrigeren Temperaturniveaus nicht zielführend.thermal Reactors try to achieve extensive post-oxidation of HC and CO in the exhaust system, by providing a thermal insulation and sufficient great Volume are provided in the exhaust pipe of the exhaust system. The heat insulation should one possible ensure a high temperature level by minimizing heat losses whereas a big one Exhaust pipe volume ensures a long residence time of the exhaust gases. Both the long residence time and the high temperature level support the desired post-oxidation. For Diesel engines are thermal reactors due to the fundamentally lower Temperature levels not effective.
Out the reasons mentioned come after the state of the art in gasoline engines catalytic reactors used, using catalytic materials, the increase the speed of certain reactions, an oxidation of HC and ensure CO even at low temperatures. Should also nitrogen oxides This can be reduced by using a three-way catalyst be achieved, but to a running within narrow limits stoichiometric Operation (λ ≈ 1) of the gasoline engine requires.
In this case, the nitrogen oxides NO x are reduced by means of the existing unoxidized exhaust gas components, namely the carbon monoxides and the unburned hydrocarbons, wherein at the same time these exhaust gas components are oxidized.
So, for example, working in lean-burn gasoline engines, in particular but direct injection diesel engines but also direct injection Otto engines, the In the exhaust gas located nitrogen oxides inherent - i. because of the missing Reducing agent - not reduced become. Oxidation of unburned hydrocarbons (HC) and carbon monoxide (CO) therefore becomes an oxidation catalyst provided in the exhaust system. For a noticeable i.e. sufficient conversion is a minimum temperature - the so-called Light-off temperature - required, the for example between 120 ° C up to 250 ° C can amount.
The nitrogen oxides in the exhaust gas can be reduced by means of so-called nitrogen oxide storage catalysts (LNT - Lean NO x trap). The nitrogen oxides are first - during lean operation of the internal combustion engine - absorbed in the catalyst, ie collected and stored to then during a regeneration phase, for example by means of a substoichiometric operation (for example, λ <0.95) of the engine to be reduced in oxygen deficiency. Further internal engine options for realizing a rich ie a stoichiometric operation of the internal combustion engine provides the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) and - in diesel engines - the throttling in the intake system. By injecting fuel into the combustion chamber of the internal combustion engine and expelling the nacheingespritzten, unburned fuel into the exhaust pipe during the charge cycle, the exhaust gas can also be enriched with reducing agents.
On internal engine measures can be omitted if the reducing agent directly into the Exhaust tract is introduced, for example by injecting additional Fuel in the exhaust pipe.
During the regeneration phase (deNO x ), the nitrogen oxides are released and essentially converted into nitrogen dioxide (N 2 ), carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) and water (H 2 O). The frequency of the regeneration phases is determined by the total emission of nitrogen oxides and the storage capacity of the LNT. The temperature of the storage catalyst (LNT) should preferably be in a Temperature window between 200 ° C and 450 ° C, so that on the one hand a rapid reduction is ensured and on the other hand no desorption without conversion of the released nitrogen oxides takes place, which can be triggered by excessive temperatures.
Difficulty in the use and in particular in the arrangement of the LNT in the exhaust system results from the sulfur contained in the exhaust gas, which is also absorbed in the LNT and must be removed regularly in a so-called desulfurization (deSO x ) ie a desulfurization. For this purpose, the LNT to high temperatures, usually between 600 ° C and 700 ° C, heated and supplied with a reducing agent, which in turn can be achieved by the transition to a rich operation of the internal combustion engine. The desulfurization of the LNT can contribute to the thermal aging of the catalyst and adversely affect the desired conversion of nitrogen oxides towards the end of its life.
Basically, to Reduction of nitrogen oxides also selective catalysts - so-called SCR catalysts (Selective Catalytic Reduction) - used are introduced, in which targeted reducing agent in the exhaust gas is used to selectively reduce the nitrogen oxides. As a reducing agent In addition to ammonia and urea also unburned hydrocarbons for use. The latter is also referred to as HC enrichment, where the unburned hydrocarbons - as already for the storage catalyst (LNT) described above - directly be introduced into the exhaust system or by a post-injection from additional Fuel can be fed into the combustion chamber after the actual combustion. The nacheingespritzte fuel should not in the combustion chamber through the still running main combustion or by the - even after Termination of the main combustion - high combustion gas temperatures ignited be, but during the charge change into the exhaust tract be initiated.
Internal combustion engines, who make use of a post-injection, but are from home very vulnerable for one dilution or contamination of the oil by unburned hydrocarbons. Depending on the quantity of post-injection Fuel and the injection timing, arrives more or less greater Share of post-injected fuel on the cylinder inner wall and mixes there with the adhering oil film. Then arrives the fuel together with the oil and the blow-by gas in the crankcase and thus contributes significantly to the oil dilution. The oil dilution decreases with increasing fuel quantity and shifting the post-injection after late to. By the change In the lubricant properties of oil, oil thinning has a significant impact on wear and durability i.e. the life of the internal combustion engine.
Similar to already for The reduction of nitrogen oxides suggested may also be fuel be introduced directly into the exhaust system.
It must be considered be that the use of additional Fuel, whether due to a transition to a rich engine operation or due to the enrichment of the exhaust gas with fuel, in principle the fuel consumption of the internal combustion engine adversely affected. In particular, the frequency the exhaust gas enrichment has decisive and directly affect the amount of fuel used for these purposes and thus on the total consumption. If the exhaust gas enrichment means internal motor safe measures achieved, one is in the operation of the internal combustion engine. when adjusting the operating parameters severely limited.
Out the reasons mentioned Increasingly, SCR catalysts are used to reduce nitrogen oxides Use in which ammonia or urea as a reducing agent provided.
Aufgrund
der Toxizität
von Ammoniak (NH3) wird Ammoniak nicht in
Reinform in Kraftfahrzeugen bevorratet und als Reduktionsmittel
bereitgestellt.
One Advantage stems from the fact that urea in solid form less voluminous is or solid urea by a - compared to the aqueous Solution - higher ammonia content is marked. The storage store can therefore with a lower storage volume to be executed, which in particular with regard to use in motor vehicles a substantial Advantage is where the most dense and effective Packaging is sought. On the other hand - same volumes of storage storage provided - the Intervals in which the memory is to be replenished, compared to the Variant in which the urea is provided as an aqueous solution can be extended.
One reduced storage volume - an equal to stockpile Quantity of ammonia is required - therefore also one significant advantage in terms of use in motor vehicles because the higher one Ammonia content or the omission of the water as a solvent a reduced total weight of the motor vehicle leads what has a direct impact on fuel economy and a reduction of fuel consumption leads.
Einrichtungen zum Frostschutz bzw. zum Auftauen des Systems.moreover must be considered be that watery Urea solution has a comparatively high freezing point and the solution already at about 13 ° C from the liquid Form in the frozen i. solid form passes. This requires elaborate and costly measures or devices for frost protection or for thawing the system.
In summary can be stated that the provision of urea in solid form for the reduction of nitrogen oxides in an SCR catalyst across from an aqueous Solution numerous Has advantages. For this reason, the provision and dosage of solid urea subject of the present invention.
To In the prior art, the urea is in the form of small Beads - so-called Pellets - by a heatable reactor element in a reactor split. The reactor element is, for example, a heatable reactor plate used, with the for the thermolysis required energy when hitting the urea pellets is placed on the heated reactor plate. The urea pellets evaporate.
Insbesondere eine Überdosierung an Harnstoff ist zu vermeiden, da im Reaktor zuviel aufbereitetes Ammoniak, für das Stickoxide als Reaktionspartner nicht zur Verfügung stehen, den Abgastrakt unverändert durchläuft und in die Umgebung gelangt, was aufgrund der Toxizität des Ammoniaks unter allen Betriebsbedingungen zu verhindern ist.difficulties when using urea pellets and a dosage by means of Counting the supplied Pellets are also due to the different size and density the individual urea pellets, but also due to a certain inhomogeneity a specific pellet regarding density and ammonia content, what a precise dosage of the required for the reduction of nitrogen oxides Urea aggravates. In particular, an overdose of urea is to avoid, because in the reactor too much treated ammonia, for the nitrogen oxides are not available as reactants, the exhaust gas tract unchanged goes through and enters the environment, due to the toxicity of ammonia be prevented under all operating conditions.
The metering ie the introduction of urea pellets for exhaust aftertreatment according to the prior art is not continuous, but intermittently in discrete portions. The functionality of the dosing unit and the dosage as such can only be monitored indirectly, for example, by measuring the nitrogen oxide concentration (NO x ) by means of NO x sensor in the aftertreated exhaust gas, with an overdose can be detected only insufficient. It uses the so-called cross sensitivity of the NO x sensor to ammonia.
Out the reasons mentioned is a malfunction of the dosing unit, for example, as a result a blockage of the dosing agent, but also an empty storage reservoir, only detected when the concentration of nitrogen oxides in the aftertreated exhaust gas has increased due to lack of reduction.
Against this background, it is the object of the present invention to provide a method for metering solid urea (CO (NH 2 ) 2 ), which allows a metering of the urea with a greater accuracy than allow conventional methods of the prior art and the allows a review of the functionality of the metering device.
A Another subtask of the present invention is a device to carry out a to provide such method.
- The urea is supplied in solid form by means of a metering unit to a reactor, and
- • the urea supplied is split in interaction with a heatable reactor element of the reactor as part of a thermolytic reaction with introduction of energy into ammonia (NH 3 ) and isocyanic acid (HNCO), and characterized in that
- • spent on the thermolytic reaction energy input is determined at least indirectly,
- The amount of urea fed to the reactor and split by means of thermolytic reaction is determined using this previously determined energy input, and
- • the quantity of urea of the dosing unit determined in this way is provided as an input signal.
According to the inventive method is the for the thermolysis determines required energy or heat. As part of the Description of preferred embodiments Below are still different ways to determine the energy in detail discussed.
In Knowledge of the thermochemical endothermic chemical Reactions which lead to the splitting of the urea, can under consideration the registered i. Consumed energy by means of thermolysis split urea and thus the amount of urea supplied to the reactor be determined. The amount of urea determined in this way becomes considered in the further dosage, by being supplied to the dosing unit as an input signal. Ie. the further dosage takes place with knowledge of the already supplied quantity of urea.
Ausgehend von der zugeführten Harnstoffmenge und unter Berücksichtigung der Tatsache, dass die im Rahmen der Thermolyse neben Ammoniak gebildete Isocyansäure in einem weiteren Verfahrenschritt unter Anwesenheit von Wasser mittels Hydrolyse zu Ammoniak und Kohlendioxid umgewandelt wird, kann darüber hinaus die dem SCR-Katalysator zugeführte Ammoniakmenge bestimmt werden.outgoing from the supplied Amount of urea and taking into account the fact that in the course of thermolysis in addition to ammonia formed isocyanic in a further process step in the presence of water is converted to ammonia and carbon dioxide by hydrolysis, can over it In addition, the amount of ammonia fed to the SCR catalyst is determined become.
The inventive method thus allows the monitoring the functionality the dosing unit. If no energy is consumed, this can either as an indication of that be judged that the storage storage is empty, i. a Feeding of Urea impossible is because there is no more urea, or not required Energy input must be interpreted as a malfunction of the dosing unit be, resulting from a blockage of the dosing agent, for example a valve, by urea pellets or a defect of the dosing agent itself can result.
Of the substantial advantage of the method according to the invention over conventional Method is, however, that the amount of supplied urea is determined a return of this Information about the dosing unit takes place and thus a significant allows more accurate dosage becomes. Thereby can lower demands are placed on the urea pellets, what the operating costs for the exhaust aftertreatment in question - namely the selective catalytic Reduction - lowers. A different density and size of the pellets and Variations in ammonia content affect the quality, i. the Accuracy of the dosage not, since according to the invention the absolute supplied Amount of urea is determined.
Dadurch
Further advantageous embodiments according to the subclaims explained below.
- The temperature T of the reactor element is detected,
- The temperature drop ΔT of the reactor element is determined as a result of the thermolytic reaction of the urea, and
- • The applied energy input is determined indirectly using this temperature drop .DELTA.T of the reactor element.
The for splitting the supplied Urea required energy or heat is by means of a heated Reactor element provided i. entered in the urea. The energy supplied to the urea is simultaneously the Removed reactor element, resulting in a temperature drop .DELTA.T of the reactor element leads. The absolute amount of heat extracted from the reactor element can be determined with the aid of previously determined temperature drop ΔT and taking into account additional physical characteristics of the reactor element, for example the specific heat capacity of the rectifier material used, be calculated. In this case, the temperature T, for example, with a temperature sensor are detected.
- • the electrical resistance R of the reactor element is monitored, and
- The change .DELTA.R of the resistor R is determined as a result of a temperature drop .DELTA.T of the reactor element caused by the thermolytic reaction of the urea, and
- • The applied energy input is determined indirectly using this resistance change ΔR of the reactor element.
This embodiment takes advantage - as described above - the fact that that reactor element cools due to the heat extraction during the thermolysis. This temperature drop .DELTA.T leads to a change in the electrical resistance of the reactor element, said change in resistance .DELTA.R conclusions on the withdrawn from the reactor element and the urea supplied amount of heat permits.
- The resistance change ΔR of the reactor element is determined in such a way that the reactor element is connected to a constant voltage source and the change ΔI of a current I flowing through the reactor element is determined as a result of the resistance change ΔR.
- The heating device is given a set temperature for splitting the urea fed in,
- • the required energy to maintain the setpoint temperature of the heater is determined, and
- • the energy input is determined using the energy required to maintain the setpoint temperature.
The reactor element for the purpose of splitting the urea as part of the thermolysis deprived amount of energy and thus the in the Thermolysis invested energy input can be determined by the amount of energy is determined, which is required to the temperature drop .DELTA.T of the reactor element to compensate.
- A reactor for the decomposition of solid urea into ammonia (NH 3 ) and isocyanic acid (HNCO) as part of a thermolysis, and
- A metering unit for supplying urea pellets to this reactor, and characterized in that
- • The reactor has a heatable reactor element to enter the amount of heat required for the thermolysis in the urea, and
- • means are provided with which the amount of heat introduced into the supplied urea can be determined.
The for the inventive method applies analogously to the device according to the invention, why reference is made to the corresponding statements.
Advantageous are embodiments the metering device, wherein the reactor element at least one having heatable wire. This at least one wire can a coil formed, wound or arranged like a net be. The pellets preferably strike from one side the helix, winding or the wire mesh, flow through the Wendel or the wire mesh and leave the reactor element on the other side away.
Advantageous are also embodiments the metering device, wherein the reactor element is a reactor plate having. A reactor plate offers advantages when entering the Heat in the urea, as a plate-shaped Element provides a comparatively large area to one Heat transfer from Reactor element to ensure the urea pellets. When striking of the pellets on the plate evaporates the solid urea. It follows the thermolytic decomposition.
Zur Bestimmung der zur Aufspaltung des Harnstoffes erforderlichen Energiemenge werden spezielle Mittel vorgesehen, wobei die Mittel entsprechend der jeweiligen Verfahrensvariante ausgebildet sind und im folgenden näher beschrieben werden.to Determination of the amount of energy required to break down the urea Special funds are provided, with appropriations the respective variant of the method are formed and in the following described in more detail become.
- A temperature sensor is provided, with which the temperature T of the reactor element can be detected, and
- • This temperature sensor represents the means by which the registered amount of heat can be determined.
Die eingetragene Wärmemenge wird dann in einem zweiten Schritt unter Verwendung dieses Temperaturabfalls ΔT ermittelt.there serves in a first step, the temperature sensor for detection the temperature drop Δ T the reactor element due to the thermolytic reaction, so that the temperature sensor represents the aid with which the registered heat is determined indirectly. The registered amount of heat is then in a second step using this temperature drop .DELTA.T determined.
- A voltage source is provided to which the reactor element is connected, and
- A current measuring device is provided, with which a current I flowing through the reactor element can be detected metrologically.
As a result of the temperature drop ΔT changes the electrical resistance R of the reactor element, so that the electric current flowing through the reactor element as a result of the change in resistance - constant voltage vorrausgesetzt - also changes. This current change .DELTA.I can be detected with the proposed current measuring device and used to determine the amount of energy entered into the urea.
Advantageous are embodiments the metering device, in which a heating device for heating the Reactor element is provided.
Advantageous are embodiments of the Dosing device in which a measuring device is provided, with which the energy requirement of the heater metrologically is detectable. The energy consumed by the heater i. The energy requirement can be used to determine the temperature required for the thermolysis Energy inputs are used.

The supplied Urea amount can be used to generate the total amount to determine ammonia. The as part of the thermolysis in addition to ammonia formed isocyanic acid that is in a further process step in the presence of water converted by hydrolysis to ammonia and carbon dioxide.
The total amount of ammonia is of interest, for example, if the urea is fed as a reducing agent for the reduction of nitrogen oxides (NO x ) an SCR catalyst.
The amount of urea or amount of ammonia determined in this way is fed to the dosing unit as an input signal and in the other Dosage taken into account, which allows a very accurate dosage.
