Abstract
Description
In the present invention, a sulfate-free polyaluminum chloride solution is high basicity their preparation and their use in water treatment and papermaking.
In of water treatment are flocculated according to the prior art and coagulants used. These are dependent Of the type of polluted water usually aluminum compounds such as aluminum chloride, aluminum sulfate and polyaluminum chlorides, Iron compounds such as iron sulfate and iron chlorides, cationic, anionic and nonionic polyelectrolytes such as Polyacrylamide, polydadmac (polydiallyldimethylammonium chloride), and polyamine and phyllosilicates such as bentonite used.
Commercially available flocculants be as watery solution manufactured, delivered and used.
While in industrial wastewater used both aluminum and iron salts and polyelectrolytes become predominant in municipal wastewater Iron salts used. This is mainly in the more economical Phosphate removal justified by iron salts.
All Flocculants need can be removed from the water again by the flocculation process and allowed to statutory limit values. Polyelectrolyte residues in drinking water are in many cases due to their residual monomer content a health risk. In the water remaining iron salts lead to a yellow coloring and in the case of drinking water to a taste impairment as well as unsightly brown edges in sanitary Areas. Iron and aluminum concentrations are in the drinking as well heavily regulated in the wastewater sector.
In addition to these traditionally used products, aluminum hydroxide chlorides have increasingly been used as flocculants for a number of years, especially for demanding tasks such as drinking water applications. Aluminum hydroxide chlorides are known as polyaluminum chlorides (PAC) and characterized by the formula [Al (OH) x Cl y ] n , x + y = 3. In this case, n is the number of aluminum ions in the aluminum complex comparable to a degree of polymerization. Polymeric aluminum hydroxide chlorides are more suitable for flocculation and coagulation than simple aluminum salts, such as aluminum chloride or aluminum sulfate, which can reduce required dosages. User experience shows an improved turbidity aggregation, so that can be partly dispensed with the addition of flocculants. The use of polyaluminium chlorides also causes a lower reduction of the pH value, moreover, the entry of anions into the water is lower than when using neutral salts. Finally, the better effectiveness of Polyaluminiumchloriden at low water temperatures to call, for the winter operation is a not to be underestimated advantage.
In In the paper industry, polyaluminum chlorides are used as impurities and starch fixation, Sizing, retention, drainage, Final treatment and wastewater optimization used. The advantage of polyaluminum chlorides Aluminum sulfate is in a lower system salinity, a lower pH reduction, a better fixation of interfering, Fine and auxiliary materials as well as the much lower chalk resolution Neutral driving.

was zu erheblichen Geruchsbelästigungen
führt.Commercially available are two types of polyaluminum chlorides:
On the one hand there are the medium to high basic sulphate types with basicities of 50 to 75%, which are characterized by a very good flocculation effect and aluminum contents between 4.0 and 5.5%. These are prepared by breaking up an aluminum-containing raw material, for example aluminum hydroxide, with sulfuric acid and hydrochloric acid and neutralizing with a basic, calcium-containing reagent, such as calcium hydroxide. The resulting gypsum is separated (DE-A-1907359, US-A-5603912, US-A-5124139). A disadvantage of this method is that it is relatively expensive and leaves as a troublesome by-product the already mentioned, to be disposed of gypsum. A disadvantage of the products obtained by this method is that in use, the sulfate is reduced to hydrogen sulfide, resulting in significant odor nuisance.
On the other hand, there are the medium-basic sulfate-free grades with aluminum concentrations between 5.0 and 9.0%. These are prepared by an aluminum-containing raw material, in turn, for example, aluminum hydroxide, in excess with hydrochloric acid in a pressure reactor at temperatures> 130 ° C geschlos will be. The resulting digestion is usually not stable and must be diluted with water. This method has the advantage over the former that no interfering gypsum is produced. Also, in the application of the sulfate-free types obtained by the second method an odor nuisance is excluded. An example of these types is the commercial SACHTOKLAR 39 from Sachtleben Chemie GmbH. These types have an average flocculation behavior at average basicities of 30 to a maximum of 50%. The term "basicity" is understood to mean the percentage of OH - ions in the total amount of anions. "Sulfate-free" is taken to mean flocculants whose proportion of sulfate ions is less than 1% of the total mass of the flocculant. All quantities in percent (%) are to be understood as weight percent, possibly missing proportions in quantities are to be supplemented as water content.
Around a sulfate-free polyaluminum chloride solution available ask, the basicities of up to 50% or more is proposed in WO-A-0144110, an aluminum chloride solution [S. 9, Examples 10-11] from a former Friedel-Crafts catalyst to convert with dolomite.
Also in Example 12 of WO-A-0144110 aluminum chloride is used as starting material used [p. 11; Z. 8]. For the As will be apparent to those skilled in the art, it is stated that polyaluminum chloride is to be used as starting material [S. 11; Z. 15] to a spelling error. Polyaluminum chloride is not suitable as a catalyst in the Friedel-Crafts process [S. 11; Z. 10], so can not therefore come as it is not as anhydrous modification occurs, which is mandatory for a Friedel-Crafts reaction necessary is. Therefore it is for those skilled in the art that also Example 12 the preparation of polyalumium chloride of aluminum chloride.
- – bedingt durch das Edukt enthalten die Polyaluminiumchloridlösungen einen hohen Anteil an Cl–-Ionen, was zu einer höheren Salzbelastung des zu behandelnden Wassers führt;
- – die Konzentration an Al3+-Ionen beträgt maximal 4,6 % [S. 9, Beispiele 10-11], was sich negativ auf die Flockungseigenschaften der Polyaluminiumchloridlösungen auswirkt;
- - Due to the starting material, the polyaluminum chloride solutions contain a high proportion of Cl - ions, which leads to a higher salt load of the water to be treated;
- - the concentration of Al 3+ ions is a maximum of 4.6% [S. 9, Examples 10-11], which negatively affects the flocculation properties of the polyaluminum chloride solutions;
- - Basicities above 55%, especially between 60 and 65%, are not achieved with this method, which also has a negative effect on the flocculation properties of Polyaluminiumchloridlösungen.
Summa summum leads the procedure proposed in WO-A-0144110 of a product with low flocculation effect to a flocculant only medium Quality.
So far it was not possible a sulphate-free polyaluminum chloride solution with high basicities of at least 55%, aluminum contents of at least 5%, a very good flocculation effect and a chloride content of at most 20 produce.
Aufgabe der vorliegenden Erfindung ist es daher, die Nachteile des Standes der Technik zu überwinden.task It is therefore the object of the present invention to overcome the disadvantages of the prior art overcome the technique.
Especially It is an object of the present invention, a sulfate-free polyaluminum chloride solution with high basicities of at least 55%. Another task of the present Invention is a sulfate-free polyaluminum chloride solution with To provide aluminum contents of at least 5. Another Object of the present invention is a sulfate-free polyaluminum chloride solution with a chloride content of at most 20 to provide. Another object of the present invention it is that the preparation of the polyaluminum chloride according to the invention starting from from a polyaluminum chloride solution average basicity, in particular a commercial one polyaluminum average basicity, succeed.
The Polyaluminium chloride solution according to the invention should compact, stable, easily by flotation or sedimentation from the water form separable flakes and also in the paper industry for contaminant and starch fixation, Sizing, retention, drainage, Final treatment and wastewater optimization be suitable.
According to the invention, this problem is surprisingly solved by the features of the main claim. Preferred embodiments can be found in the subclaims. According to the invention, a sulphate-free polyaluminium chloride solution of average basicity, in particular a commercial polyaluminium chloride solution of medium basicity, is partially neutralized with a magnesium salt as starting material. The educt ent For example, it holds 7 to 9.5% Al 3+ and 15 to 23% Cl - . As such a starting material, among others, the already mentioned SACHTOKLAR 39 with a basicity of 40%, but without limiting this invention.
Der Chloridionengehalt beträgt dabei höchstens 20 %.to Stabilization of the polyaluminum chloride solution according to the invention can still Boric acid and / or their derivatives are added. The result is a sulfate-free polyaluminum chloride solution with a high basicity from above 55%, especially over 60%, and an aluminum content of more than 7%. The chloride ion content is at most 20%.
The Neutralization is carried out in a stirred reactor with the addition of magnesium salt and water. When Magnesium salts are magnesium carbonate and / or magnesium hydroxide used. Be related to the mass of the product in kilograms 400 to 900 g / kg commercial Polyaluminum chloride with 15 to 150 g / kg magnesium carbonate or Alternatively, 10 to 100 g / kg of magnesium hydroxide neutralized, then 5 to 50 g / kg boric acid be added to stabilize the product.
In addition, can the product still with polyelectrolytes in the proportions 99: 1 to 1: 2 offset. Preferably, to polyelectrolyte solutions cationic polyamine, polydadmac and / or polyacrylamide base used.
The Flocculation behavior of these magnesium-modified polyaluminum chlorides exceeds the flocculation behavior of all commercially available polyaluminum chloride products clearly.

The Polyaluminium chloride solution according to the invention has superior Flocculation properties resulting from the high basicity and the high aluminum content. this leads to to lower quantities and moreover to a lower pH reduction of the treated water as a result of higher basicity. by virtue of the low chloride ion content leads to the use of the polyaluminum chloride solution according to the invention only to a low system salinisation. A higher aluminum content and thus a higher one Active ingredient concentration in an aqueous solution also has an advantageous effect on the transport costs, since less water is transported got to.

Beispiel 4Example 4
In In this example, the products of Examples 1a, 2a, 3 and 3a with a conventional sulphate-containing Polyaluminum chloride (prepared according to DE-A-1907359) and the commercial sulfate-free flocculant SACHTOKLAR 39 in its flocculation behavior compared. The key ingredients and the basicities of respective products are again shown in Table 1 comparative.
Tabelle 1 Table 1
For comparison of flocculation behavior, a standard jar test was used with water artificially polluted with 100 ppm powdered activated carbon. The metered aluminum concentration was 5.3 ppm in each case. The Jar test or beaker test is the standard test for checking the flocculation effect of primary flocculants. In order to exclude different mechanical influences as far as possible, comparative flocculation tests are carried out in a series of beakers with mechanically coupled, identically designed blade stirrers, the products to be compared being added at the same time. For exact dosage, the flocculants to be tested are freshly prepared as a 10% solution. After submitting 1 liter of water per beaker, 1.0 ml of activated charcoal suspension is mixed in briefly with stirring. The so artificially contaminated water is checked for pH, temperature and possibly alkaline / alkaline earth content. After measuring an aluminum-like dosage, this dosage is added to each test pattern simultaneously and mixed with vigorous stirring (200 to 220 rpm) for 60 seconds. The mixture is then stirred for 4 minutes at 20 to 30 rpm. After pulling up the stirring blades, the resulting flakes should sediment for about 25 minutes. The parameters floc formation, floc size, sedimentation and turbidity elimination rate together determine the effectiveness of a flocculant. Already during the mixing-in and stirring-up phase, the flocculation and the development of the floc size for the respective products can be visually observed over time and described relative to one another. In addition, the sedimentation behavior of the flakes is recorded, as well as pH and temperature to control. The clarity of the supernatant is determined by turbidity measurement the sedimentation recorded. For this purpose, 50 to 75 ml of the supernatant from the middle beaker height are taken and the turbidity in nephelometric turbidity units (or Nephelometric Turbidity Units) [NTU] specified. The test results are shown in Table 2.
Tabelle 2 Table 2
Therefore Examples 1a and 2a are commercially available sulfate-free flocculant was used as starting material, show the results that you get the flocculation performance of this conventional Polyaluminiumchloride by a modification with magnesium significantly can increase. The addition of boric acid or derivatives of boric acid leads only to stabilize the solution in comparison to products according to Examples 1 and 2.
The Combination of the products of Examples 1a and 2a with liquid polymers, shown in Examples 3 and 3a, leads to products with again improved flocculation properties.
Beispiel 5Example 5
In this example, the products of Examples 1a, 2a and 3 were compared with a conventional sulfate-containing polyaluminum chloride (prepared according to DE-A-1907359) and the commercial polyaluminum chloride SACHTOKLAR 39 in their dewatering behavior important for papermaking, in the impurity fixation and sizing , The dewatering experiments were carried out on a Schopper-Riegler device. The dewatering time of a standard pulp (70% pulp, 30% waste paper) was measured. The residual turbidity of the filtrate and the COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand) provide information on the retention and impurity fixation of the products Sizing was carried out on a standard paper system (2.4 g of oven-dry (otro), test sheets: 80 g / m 2 , 20% CaCO 3 ) were tested with different glue concentrations above the Cobb 60. For the blank sample, the measurement was performed without the addition of a flocculant.
Tabelle 3 Table 3
Die Kombination mit einem kationischen Polymer (Beispiel 3) führt zwar zu einer besseren Entwässerung und Störstofffixierung, doch das Leimungsverhalten ist schlechter als bei erfindungsgemäßen und handelsüblichen Polyaluminiumchloriden.table 3 clearly shows that the polyaluminum chloride according to the invention (Example 1a and 2a) a comparable drainage, retention and Störstofffixierungsverhalten has like conventional Polyaluminumchloride. The combination with a cationic polymer (Example 3) leads although to a better drainage and contaminant fixation, but the sizing behavior is worse than in inventive and commercial Polyaluminium.
